Hi all
My name is Mark & i am 50 years young and have been a consistant yoyo dieter. Just when i get to my goal i think i can eat what i like and back it comes with interest. I have got about 24kg to lose to get to my goal. I have just enrolled in a Fighter Diet program for a 12 week competition. Calorie controlled which is a new concept to me. The exercise is the easy bit in this puzzle which is 30% the other 70% is the food.
Feel free to add me :-)
Hi Mark, welcome! Glad to have you on board, lot's of friends and encouragement here.
What's a Fighter Diet?0 -
Hi. I'm Suze (pronounced Sooze). Short for Suzette. I'm sneaking in here at 49 yrs old. I was at goal 3 years ago. I used to workout every day but moved to a rural area and I have a sit down job. Needless to say, I've gained a lot of weight and I have terrible eating habits. I never really snacked but I do now and I'm not making healthy food choices. I know I need to get back to regular exercise and meal planning. It works. I'm miserable right now and I need change and I need support. Do you ever wonder if your significant other likes you fat? Terrible to say but no matter how I ask for support, he doesn't understand. He says ha loves me the way I am. I'm looking to you all for support. I need to do the changing but it's going to be good to share with folks who understand weight loss battle.
I now live on a mini farm. It's new to us. Raising goats, guinea fowl, chickens and have horses on our pasture. I work from home on a laptop all day. I just became a grandma this month too!
Happy to be here. Looking forward to getting back into shape and healthy.0 -
Hi, 50 year old male from Louisville. Trying to get back in the saddle with tracking my intake and exercise. Have had a few things get in the way that last year and seem to have lost my way. Just moved back into my home after being flooded out, so now that things are getting back to normal I thought it would be a good time to re-commit to MFP. Any new friends are appreciated.0

Hi Everyone! I was really happy to find this group ... It is nice to "be around" people my own age, we have our own set of challenges with weight loss. I am 51 years old, mother of 3 grown children .. (1 in university age, still at home). My 2 week anniversary with MFP is tomorrow ... So far, haven't lost very much but that will come.0

Hi all I'm Sue 51 years old, no kids but just obtained a west highland terrier who makes sure that I go out for daily walks.. I started gaining weight when I was in my early 30's and have struggled to keep it to an acceptable level (would love to be 143 lbs) and have 14 lbs to go - I know its not much but being 5 ft 4 in tall the extra weight sits well on my stomach, legs and rear end I started 'being good' and following MFP religously since May 1st.. I just wish the weight would come off as quick as it seemed to go on Living in France now and have been for just over 3 years and am very happy that the scanner on MFP works just as well over here as it does in the UK.. although since being here I have gone back to cooking everything from scratch which must be a good thing. I need help though because I don't have much imagination with what to do with food. I look in a well stocked cupboard and think I need to go shopping, rather than thinking - wow I could do 'this' for tea etc.. thats all my rambling for now..0

Hi, everyone. Welcome. I hope you will all enjoy our group and find the support and comraderie you are looking for.0

Hi everyone! I'm Eileen, 51 from CT, USA. I'm divorced and remarried, with my 9th anniversary coming up next month. I have 3 "kids" -- 23, 21 (special needs) and 19 and i have a 17 year old step-daughter. I started this life-changing journey at the end of the summer 2013. The impetus was portraits that my husband and I had taken when we were at a resort in the Poconos. I topped the scales at 243 pounds at 5' 4" tall. I was a size 22, verging on a 24. The pictures were a real shock -- and they didn't lie! When I got back to school (I'm a teacher) a few weeks later, I hired one of the gym teachers as my personal trainer. I worked with her from August 2013 to January 2015 and dropped about 25 pounds. Then I lost another 20 when I switched trainers to my local gym and joined the gym's Biggest Loser contest. I've dropped down to a pretty solid 14/16. I constantly amaze myself by how much more I can do -- and the more I can do, the more I can do....0

I have spent the past 3 days with a flooded basement, but luckily not bad enough to have to leave!
I'm new to this group as well, but have found it a good group to be a part of-lots of fun and support.
Welcome!

Hi there. I'm Marcie and I just turned 50 years old in March (turning 40 was tough for me, but 50 was a breeze). My only kids are of the furry variety (a 13 year old cat and a 3 year old dog). I've struggled with my weight my whole life. My highest known weight was 350 pounds when I was 47 years old, but I suspect I came close to 400 at one time. A couple years ago my Dad was ordered by his cardiologist to lose 40 pounds. We had just lost my mom to cancer and he had let himself go while we were caring for her. He started logging his food and exercise on a weight management website (not MFP), and then very subtlety suggested I may want to do the same. I learned so much over there, and the pounds started coming off. That site recently shut down, but I already had a MFP membership, so me and a bunch of other members from that site just transitioned over here (I set up a group for them so we'd all have a meeting place here). My goal is not to lose a ton of weight quickly. I'm just steadily chipping away at it and learning as I go. One-derland is in my sights now, and I look forward to making it my new home!
I sure hope this is an active group! Most of the groups I've checked out seem to have lots of members, but very little movement.0 -
Hi Marcie, it's wonderful to have you in our group. Over 8000 posts is very impressive, you really have been active! There are a lot of inactive groups in MFP and it can be difficult to find those that are busier. We have a great bunch here that is always supportive and motivating. Sounds like you have really found a new direction. That is so wonderful for you. Feel free to invite more of your friends, we have members in their 40's - 80's. We look forward to getting to know you.0
-
Welcome Marcie! You have made fabulous progress in a smart way. This group is like any other. Some very active, some a little and some not so much. We are trying to keep it active and keep people involved.0

I saw the group mentioned (apologies; I forget by whom) in a thread titled something like "Is everybody here young?"
I'm 63. Discovered to my surprise, after adding the app to my phone, that I joined here in January 2013. I think that was before I hit my max weight, which was somewhere upwards of 210. Lost 40-plus after the doc said I was edging into diabetes and should stop eating white carbs.
Least painful weight I've ever lost.
I've plateaued in the mid-160s and know I'll have to work at it to get out of the overweight BMI and into normal.
I'm less than a week into a 1200-calorie diet. If I whine too often, slap me.0 -
Great to have Marcie on our group, I can see we can learn so much from your weight loss experience. Feel free to start a discussion anytime0

Welcome aboard JanetMMcC
Well done on 40+ loss.. You have worked hard.
Be interested to see how you get on with 1200 cals..0 -
Hi Janet! Welcome to the group. I am 63 and started over 200 lb. Congrats on your loss so far. Don't hold hard and fast to 1200 if you get hungry. You lose slower the closer you get to goal, so no point in starving.0

Hi. I'm Lori and I'm 52 years old. I joined MFP a long time ago but never got really serious until April of this year. So far, after 58 days, I've lost 12 pounds. I'm still learning how this works for me. This is my first post on the forums. I've read many other threads and learned a lot from my reading. I hope to continue learning as I figure out what works for me. Just lately, the last couple weeks, I've found myself feeling hungrier than usual. Not sure why as I've tried to maintain a simple eating plan and I don't think I've been very far under my goal very many times.0

Suggestion if your feeling hungry is eat more fiber and drink plenty of water.

It is so great to see our group growing by leaps and bounds. It's also helpful and motivating to have people at all points in the journey with so many different experiences. I think we all really benefit from each other.

Hi, I'm Pam, 57 years old, one grown daughter and four grandchildren. I work full time, and ,yeah, I'm a stress eater. I have had trouble with this all my life, but currently it's the worst it's ever been. Well, I'm back on MFP and hoping this time I'll keep it off for good. Glad you all are here. Thanks!0

I often wish that on our food diaries there was a space to write why we were eating, hungry, bored, etc. When I did Jenny Craig some years back they asked you to write your mood/reason for eating. It was a real eye opener and would rally make you think. But I suppose you could try to track your mood separately. It might help. Anyway, Pam, welcome.0 -

There is a small space for notes on the bottom of each day's diary. I usually list whether I have remembered my vitamins, but a person could make a short note of what was going on in their life that day. I think that would be a real eye opener.0 -

That is a good idea. I never thought of using that note box. See, I hear a good idea every day around here.0 -
I often use the notes to say how I got on
Worth a try0 -

Thanks, Nikki. That's a great idea. I started a journal. I think I could go "old school" and put a small pad of paper in my purse to jot things down.0 -
Writing is a powerful tool. It takes things to another level (for our generation anyway). I write down my complete plan because I really feel more committed and accountable. When I struggle, rereading it can really help my focus.0

Hi, This is my first week with my fitness pal. My heavens all these diets and gimmicks later and it just may that good old counting calories and logging foods is what works. And suddenly I am not spending scads of money for the privilege of trying to eat healthy. Anyway, I am 69 years old, with 1 dog and 1 daughter, and 3 great stepchildren and their 11 children. Right now I have a posterior tibial tendonitis along with many other reasons that tendon can use a less weight on it. I plainly have to lose and keep it off. here is one big difference - I am willing to settle on 1 pound a week loss so that I do not feel like I am starving and then overeat! I need to upload a picture as soon as I can find something I can stand that is more or less current.0
