Hi, I'm Tamisha and I am 31. After having 4 babies, I need to get back into shape. I am a very Beginner runner and I am currently doing the C25k, just finished W2D1. I would love to do at least 5ks a day. I am so happy that I found MFP because it helps me to stay on track and stay accountable for what I eat and how much I exercise.
I'm looking forward to this challenge4 -
Hi! I'm Katie. I joined a local running group program in October 2015 and completed my first half marathon with them in December but I hit a wall with running during my 3rd half this March and came upon the dreaded "why". Why was I running for 3 hours straight? Seemed a bit redundant.
Since then, I've been less than consistent with my running group trainings. The increasing heat does NOT help either. (I live in FL)
BUT I'm determined to get back on the band wagon despite the temperature and am hoping to hit 60 miles by June. (2 miles a day)

I'm Ruth. I'm not in any way shape or form a runner. I do CrossFit and I'm running to improve my metabolic condition to become better at CrossFit. My gym posted a mile WOD (workout of the day) on Monday that I'm going to try doing three times a week until I can easily run a mile. Of course it's broken up and I'll eventually start stringing it together. Then, I will work my way up to further distances. My mile time is a horrible 15:19 but it has been worse. No way to go but up (or down in terms of my mile time).
Monday's Wod:
Run 100 m- rest one minute
Run 100 m- rest one minute
Run 200 m- rest one minute
Run 400 m- rest one minute
Run 800 m3 -

Everybody has to start somewhere. When I set out to see if I could become a runner in August 2011, I found I could run for one minute. Then I had to slow to a walk for a minute. That was then, when I didn't know whether I could even become a real runner. (What is a "real runner" is another philosophical discussion!)
Now, I think of myself as a marathon runner. One minute isn't even enough for a warm up. But one minute is where I started.2 -
Hello, my name is Jenna. I am not a runner. I was a long time athlete in grade school, high school and college. After an injury in college I stopped everything, except for eating like an athlete. I am on a mission to get healthy again before I dive in to the world of motherhood. I would like running to be a bigger part of my lifestyle change. At the moment, I am doing walk/runs to build myself up to straight running. Please send encouragement my way. Thanks.2

Jenna, we all have to start somewhere. I started with walk/run intervals in August 2011. The 5K plan I found wanted me to run 3 minutes, walk 1 minute. When I started, I could only run 1 minute before I had to slow to a walk. Doesn't look like much, but it's a start. Keep at it, and you can get to where you do much, much more.
In under 5 years, I've gone from running for 1 minute with a goal of being able to run for 30 minutes or 3.5 miles, to running half marathons and marathons. You never know where this is going to take you, but if you keep at it you won't be doing walk/run intervals forever . . . unless it turns out that walk/run intervals are what you *want* to do long term.2 -
New here, I joined the group a week ago and recently restarted running on 1 May. My name is Alise, 33 years old, living in Belgium (born & bred in the US). I've struggled with my weight for most of my life. I lost 90 pounds in my late teens and maintained 125-135 for about 11 years. I was never interested in sports or fitness as a kid/teen. I only got into enjoying working out in my twenties. I started running in 2003 and did that for maybe a year. I built it up to where I could run 30-40 minutes without walking. I felt great and loved the runner's high and the overwhelming sense of accomplishment it gave me to see and feel the progress I had made. I guess school got in the way. I also have issues with anxiety and dislike running outside alone through the city's streets. So I turned to other forms of cardio: biking and kickboxing. Joined a gym a couple times. 4 years ago I took up running again but only went a few times with a friend. My dissertation got in the way and I joined a gym instead. Now I've returned to it as I've become bored with kickboxing, zumba, yoga, etc., and also because I'm having an extremely difficult time losing weight. I am loving/hating running all over again. I am using the C25K app and am only on week 2. I'm looking forward to increasing my stamina and participating in a 5k in August. I twisted my ankle really badly two months ago so I'm a little worried about injuring myself. I'm taking it slow and I wear an ankle brace, although I must say, I am intimidated by other runners. The hardest part is getting out there during the week. I have a long commute and once I get home, the only thing I want to do is veg and eat. Another difficult thing is shutting up my negative internal critic... Today I ran/walked 4K in 35 minutes.
Thanks to all participating here. Your accomplishments and stories are very motivational. Thanks for reading.1 -

Hello! I just returned from a vacation in Florida a week ago. I run about 20-30 miles a week usually (living in PA), but due to the heat there I was only able to run up to 2-3 miles at a time. I definitely underestimated the temperatures/humidity.0 -
Hello, I'm Brandon! I have been running for about a year now, but have not enjoyed it for nearly as long.
I started out with one goal, to complete a 5K race. After 4 months (May 2015-September 2015) of hard work I met my goal, although running up to 5-5.5 miles during my training (not technically racing). I felt extremely accomplished and thought nothing could knock me off my high horse... Until a couple weeks later, I injured myself during some strength training exercises. Once, able to run again, I pushed myself too hard (thinking I could be right back where I left off) and became stressed that I needed to slowly build endurance back up. So, I did what any lowly motivated person would do, and decided to quit.
A few weeks later, I gained my confidence back and decided my only goal should be to do my best every time I am out on a run. Since setting that goal I have grown to love running and how free I feel while doing it!1 -
My name is Jo and I recently started running again. I love how it makes me feel and the mental stability it provides me. I have not been able to do a 5K yet, since the weather has not cooperated this year at all. I have started getting up and running at 5 AM so I can get it done before my long day of work. My goal is going to be 100 miles this month.1

Hello Everyone, I am Nikita. I have always enjoyed running! Just haven't been able to run regularly -lacking motivation. It is great to see so many people on this forum. I am hoping to join the challenge and run about 30 miles since it is already 16th today.0

Hi my name is Chris. I initially started running in June of 2015 to loose weight. Since then its become a passion of mine and now run 4 to 5 miles daily and a long run of 8 to 10 miles on the weekend(when time permits as I coach a baseball team). I plan on running my first half marathon next month and hopefully many more after that.
I invite everyone to friend me as Im always looking to learn what works for others as well as getting inspiration from others accomplishments.
Happy Running!!!1 -
Hi all!
I started running again about a year ago. Almost four years ago I was hit by a car and essentially snapped my right tibia and fibula in half, with a few fun fragments. It took close to three years before I was able to handle the impact of running a little bit, and it was here on MFP that I heard about the C25K program. It worked wonders for building up my stamina, and last week I ran (not fast, but I RAN) a half marathon up in Denver. That's something that was never even on my radar before the accident, but I do love a challenge!
I'm currently running about 60 miles a month, doing 3-5 miles twice during the week and 8-13 once on the weekend. This schedule has been working well for me, since I alternate running days with lifting weights. My current challenge is losing about 10 lb, in the hope that it'll help me improve my pace for my next half marathon in October. I'm hoping this forum will help to keep me motivated toward that goal.1 -
Hi I'm Joy 44 from the UK. I used to run a lot done 2 half marathons and numerous other races. Not run in a while for 2 reasons we now have a dog who takes up a lot of time for walks ( he's horrible on a lead so right now I can't run with him). I was also diagnosed with fibromyalgia a chronic pain condition which effects my hips and feet. I have decided to start running again as I am in pain anyway so might as well be in pain for a reason, my doctor is in agreement with this.0

Just started running again yesterday after taking a year and a half off. Two years ago I ran my last 10k. I developed a bulging disc in my neck which is still there today, but not now pinched. I am hoping that it stays that way and that I can run again without pain.0

Hi, I'm Sarah, also from England. I'm another one new to running, I turned 50 in January, I used to run at school but that was over 30 years ago. I'm trying to get back into it. I will join the challenge in June (after half term). Thanks to everyone who has said they started with the walk/run C25K, it's reassuring to know that the system works, I've tried to complete it a few times but have yet to get through it without excuses.... excuses...... excuses..... OK time to stop the excuses and get on with the challenge.0

Thanks for the invite! I'm Patricia and after several months break am getting back to the running world. This month would like to challenge myself to 50 and work up month over month as I hit half-marathons in the fall and marathon next spring. Would welcome your encouragement and accountability. Go team!0

Hi, I'm Sharron. I have two bad knees, but am wanting to give it a shot. I've enjoyed interval running in the past and would like to do it again. My theory is that my knees will stop hurting if I can get the excess weight off my body. We'll see if that can be accomplished. I have a fitbit and have been walking for exercise about 3 days a week. I like spin class too, which I occasionally attend. I have the C25K app and just downloaded a couple others that I plan to try out. I tend to eat well during the day and eat like a teenager after dinner. I hope to exercise after dinner and not leave any time to eat poorly. That's the plan.0

Hi, I'm Christina. I started running a couple of years ago and then had to stop because of really bad shin splints. I have run off and on since then, but have been afraid to get back into running with any seriousness because I fear. getting shin splints and having the severe pain that I had before. I miss running with regularity though. I miss the way it made me feel in general. I felt so much better and healthier then. So here I am, trying this running thing again.0

Hi I am Brad just joined the other thread. I have had a rough year which has led me through the ringer. I started running run/walking actually a couple weeks ago. in December I Overdosed on prescription drugs. I was dead and brought back in the emergency room. I spent 90 days in rehab where the only exercise allowed was walking with others. A friend I made from walking was an avid runner and the bug was in me from our conversations. I got out a couple months ago but took it slow lifting weights and walking till 2 weeks ago when I started the couch to 5 k program. 6 years ago I weighed over 500 lbs I have had knee surgery and back problems from my weight which is where the pain meds came into play. My wife of 12 years left me and moved out with my daughter while I was in rehab. I found the walking then the lifting and now the running a safe therapeutic place.1

Hi, I'm Kay, I want to take up running a little more seriously, I have done several 5Ks but need to step it up a bit. My goal for June is 30miles.
Looking forward to the challenge0 -
Hello
My name is Steven and I plan to get back into running after 1 year off. I joined a crossfit gym but miss running. This group may be what I need to get back outside. Excited to get started.0 -
Hello,
I ran cross country and high school and continued to stay active. I had two beautiful babies in which my weight increased. I have always been a bigger set girl but it never stopped me from running. I have done the half marathon in SA. I did little 5k's as well. I wanted to be challenged and I did the Spartan Races. I did very well well coming in in the 15 percentile for my age/gender. I've burnt out since then and having a hard time getting back to it. I am a single mother with two and times have been hard. I need some motivation and some challenge to get me back into it. Started this week. I have to loose 7.5 lbs by July 20'16.0 -
Hi,
I'm Carmen...I used to run but stopped for a couple of years. Just started a program to bring me up to the 5k level. I'm also trying to teach my dog to run with me...a little extra motivation, perhaps? I've always wanted to run a marathon, hoping I can achieve my goal by next summer. For now though, I'm sticking to the program I have so I don't overdo it.1 -
-
I could use some friends for motivation...please add me if you would like the same. I'm not new to running but it's been a few years. I'm 49 now and would like to run a marathon next year.0

Hi! I'm Amber! I'm a newbie runner, having started about 2 months ago.. I ran my first 5k last weekend and have already signed up for another for the first week of August. This group seemed like a perfect fit! I'm ready to keep myself accountable and better my time on this next 5k.0

Hi there! I run 3 to 4 days a week, squeezing in what I can right now between a full-time job and single motherhood. I run about 8 to 10 miles per week, but am looking to get up to 15 miles per week and 60 miles a month. It's a time challenge, but I love it!!0

Hi. My name is Sara and I started running in January from a zero fitness level. I live in the UK and I am a 32 year old mum of one and step-mum of two. I currently run to aid my weight loss and I am happy to say I have caught the running bug! I recently completed my second wolf run and am in training for my third in September. I currently run 3 times a week approximately 5km (3 miles) per session.0
