I has in ketosis for three days. I had a major headache, most likely because of ketosis. I took my go to liquid Tylenol, and it threw me right off. I am so devastated. I was finally getting somewhere and no this. I can not take pills to save my life. Any suggestions for a sugar free version of a liquid pain reliever?

If your headache was due to low electrolytes caused by ketosis then Tylenol would only temporarily mask the symptoms anyway. You just need salt.
Skip the Tylenol

If you absolutely must take it at some time, just crush some pills and use the liquid dose cup to add some water. Would be a good idea to take 500mg vitamin C with it to help your system with negative effects the acetaminophen has on the body too.

Try drinking some broth...or even salt water.

Pickle juice is what I use for headaches now. Fixing the cause works better than the Tylenol ever would.5

please read the post on "ketosis vs fat adapted" it will ease some of your anxiety regarding being out of ketosis. it's in the launch pad5

I couldn't find the open threads or anything about the "ketosis vs fat adapted". I used Keto stick on Saturday night and it measured a dark 15, however Sunday morning was back to 0. I will try and increase my salt intake. Craving peanut butter, so I guess that is a good thing. Lol0

Ketostix are not very reliable. They generally just tell you how much you are excreting. I know some people use them and put more stock in them, but for myself they just told me if I was hydrated or dehydrated. If I haven't had water all day, it would be purple. If I drank two litres, it would be very light.
Decreased hunger, a better more consistent energy, and even smelly urine are better indicators for me.
But yes, your headache may be due to lack of electrolytes. Sodium intake in a low carb WOE should be higher than a standard WOE because of the amount of water loss that occurs when lowering carbs. Out goes the water, out goes the sodium.5 -
I would doubt cough syrup kicked you out of ketosis for any amount of time that would be of any significance.1

They generally test higher in the evening and lowest first thing in the morning.
But also water can affect them... Or as I discovered in a recent experiment, how often you go in general. For example, I get lower results when the diuretic effect of coffee kicks in making me run to the bathroom every hour. I also am taking in more fluids per hour in general at that time of day too. And my tests were always lowest during such a time. Doesn't mean the coffee or anything else lowered my ketone production, just means I'm creating urine so fast that the concentration doesn't build up as much.2 -
I only test first thing in the morning. I had the smelly urine and that is why I tested. But after taking the liquid Tylenol, with the fructose corn syrup, I woke up to nothing on the register. I am trying for more salt, even if I have to have tequila with it..... J/K.
Thank you all so very much. I am going to grab the salt shaker a lot more often.
I have to ask, does anyone else have a problem with the macro chart changing by itself?
It happens to me about once a week.
Have a great week everyone!!!0 -
If you enter your exercise into mfp your macros adjust automatically because it assumes you're eating those calories too!1

Uggggggh. I put it in there!!! But my stupid laptop must have screwed something up. To say it's been on the fritz is an understatement. Sorry about that. It's in there now. Again. But here's the link:

I read this last night, it was really beneficial.3

Everyone's ignoring what you said - LIQUID TYLENOL. Liquid medications are always sweetened so they don't taste like crap going down. There's a LOT of sugar in them which yes, knocked you out of ketosis. Liquid Nyquil and Dayquil are also repeat offenders. It doesn't help that the bottles don't show nutrition information and only list medical ingredients.
As far as your keto headache, increasing sodium helps, but if you feel you need Tylenol stick with pill form only. Make sure to check this guide and make sure you're getting enough sodium, potassium and magnesium. https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/wiki/faq#wiki_adapting_to_a_low_carb_lifestyle2 -

She knows the sugar is what the problem was. She said she can't swallow pills.
So she doesn't know what to do for a headache when she wants to take Tylenol.
The advice is to address what caused the headache and skip the medicine entirely.
Nobody is ignoring anything3 -
Oh, I missed the not being able to take pills part, woops.0

BC Powder might be an option?? I've never used it, but know many who swear by it.0

No one was ignoring that. We are all aware she said liquid Tylenol. Most comments were to address the electrolytes to prevent the headache in the future. The minimal amount of time she may have been "out" of ketosis is rather insignificant4 -
So, I was want shamed on here for eating starving Aries, raspberries and BlackBerries. This is why I am so confused as to what to eat what not to eat and so forth. I am including a link that I have found. Please let me know if I'm all wet or not http://pin.it/n1GXn7B0

It really depends on quantities of those berries, whether you pair them with fats, and individual body chemistry. I eat strawberries with cream or make "shakes" with frozen strawberries, heavy cream, almond milk, and a bit of sweetener. None of them have ever really knocked me about much...
So what to eat and not eat is kind of an exploration each person has to take. Generally, the more fat, the lower the carbs, the better. but what that is varies from person to person. That link looks okay, but different groups and/or different places, people have their own variations and own plans. Some folks are more intense and hard core than others. Some think no exceptions, others are fine with blips.
Here, in this group, we really attempt to stay with "find your groove and do what works for you." That may be ketogenic diet, that may be standard low carb, that may be Atkins, that may be "slow carb not low carb." It's SOOO individual. Some folks lose weight fantastically on 125 grams of carbs a day, some need to stick with 5 carbs a day. Some folks can eat to natural hunger, and other folks have to count and watch all calories. Some folks exercise like it's a job, some folks are lumps on a log.
It's all about your personal goals, what works for you, and all of that.
My personal theory is that you should find the highest level of carbs upon which you still lose weight, that you should eat the most calories you can and still lose weight (most folks have two ranges - a really low one most of us know about - and a way higher one (usually 500-1000 calories higher) that they can lose well on), and basically slowly work through what works for you and what doesn't, all of that.
If you are trying for "hard core" ketogenic dieting, then eating 2 cups of berries a day probably isn't a good idea. But if you're aiming for fat adaption or just low carbing for health, that might be okay, depending on activity levels. Most of us here are pretty passionate about low carb dietary plans working for us, so if anyone comes on to strong, just speak up, hit up a mod, or something. No one is intending to make this more complicated than necessary.
Opinions are like butts - everyone has one - and they all stink.
There is NO one plan fits all...basic guidelines and tailoring the plan to fit your life and lifestyle! Best of luck, @rhjsgal354 ...10
