Officially Hate this Time of the Year (warning rant)

Ok, so I dont really hate christmas BUT since this is my first holiday LCHF it's really hard. I mean everyday since Thanksgiving there is some kind of sweet, candy, or hot beverage filled with sugar in our break room. Yea, yea nobody if forcing me to eat it (thank God lol) but it really sucks to constantly have it in my face. Now I wish I could say I've been super good and not given in but I have. To my credit I only have literally a pinch of a dessert, or one candy but still...SIGH.. why cant we have a meat holiday lol? Also, in my hispanic family Christmas dinner will revolve around menudo (has hominy big carbs) and tamales (again tons of carbs). Literally those are my only options. Ok enough complaining just had to get it off my chest Thanks for hearing me out!

This may not be much consolation, but just think about how all those people at work will be dragging their butts with their new year's resolutions to eat right, lose weight, get in shape, etc., while you are already fat adapted and on cruise control.11

Soon it will be New Years and most of the temptations will have gone away. And diets will be on everyone's agenda. Be brave and strong until then. We are all there with you.3

I usually allow myself not more than 1 office treat per day, and I wait until the end of the day to have it...I find that I can spend all day oggling the treats if I know I can have one at the END of the day - and I know it will only be one because after I have it I will be gone and it will no longer be tempting me...plus, sometimes they are all gone by the end of the day and I don't get any, which is a win-win as far as I'm concerned.
Family meals are harder, particularly when there are traditions that are a huge part of the celebration...this year very little on the menu will be stuff I can eat, so I'm bringing deviled eggs to both family celebrations...that's one thing that I know I can eat that will be filling enough to keep me out of harms way, and it's something I can share with everyone else as well.5 -
The way I cope with office food is; I have convinced myself that it is poison and if I eat it I will surely die young - so far it's working for me9

Yeah, it REALLY sucks! I know you're diabetic so it's even worse as having too much can really harm you.
I don't have much advice...as I deal with food pushers constantly at my job, but I just wanted to say that I can relate and you just have to keep thinking about your goals. Sending you good vibes!3 -
Offices at this time of year are food traps! Stay strong!
I realise that at home, I have created my own trap. I am hosting Christmas and we have the gluten intolerant, the lactose intolerant and the diabetic as well as fat phobic and the normies. Not many of those! So I have plans so that everyone on special diets are OK with the selections but I also included food for the normies so that they would stay away from the more limited supply for the special snowflakes. But now I have all this "normal" foods in the house! Got to stay away from the poisons for me, and stay away from the other treats until next weekend! They are all coming for 3 days. This time of year is a challenge!

I'm a person who hates feeling like i "can't" have something, I must think like i "don't" want it lol I know I'm wierd but lately I've been fighting the little fat rebellious girl inside who "WANTS" everything bad for her lol And honestly Im tired Im not giving up this WOE for nothing, I guess I have fight my way throught the season3

My boss gave me a bottle of coquito (Puerto Rican 'eggnog' made with rum and condensed milk) as a Christmas gift... talking about temptations. Since my whole house is on a diet, my good friends are lactose intolerant and/or on special diets, and my family is not interested, I have no idea what to do with it. Oh, and it goes bad, so I have to figure it out soon. I feel your pain. I bought a bag of sugar-free candy, it's made with sugar alcohols, so it's somewhat low in carbs, and I grab a piece every once in a while when I get desperate.2

I work in a large office. It's always someone's birthday, there's always sweets around. It doesn't bother me any more. Not only do I not want it because I know what it will do to my health but I remind myself that lots of people have different eating habits and at the end of the day no one else really cares if I eat it or not - I'm only harming myself.
Xmas in Australia is great. It's summer (and really hot this year). We have cold ham, turkey, prawns, other cold meats and cheeses and salads. It's very easy to keto.9 -

I'm running a winter bulk, even though I do not celebrate Christmas in any way, make, shape or form. The typical problems that most people have with family food abloobloo, and office party cookie blah blah don't apply to me. However, seasonal affective disorder screws with me a lot. Therefore, I'll be offsetting it this year by eating all of the things, walking 7-15 miles per day, and continuing my 5/3/1 progression, slightly sped up.
Nothing destroys winter induced hormonal problems quite like feeding the machine, while running it at redline.3 -
We had our office Christmas party last night. I was dreading facing all of the temptations. BUT when I arrived it was a meat lovers paradise! Shrimp cocktail, meatballs, pork tenderloin, beef tenderloin, chicken wings! The only real splurge was the crawfish ettoufe over a little rice. And I'm sure there were breadcrumbs in the meatball. I managed to skip the dessert table and I drank Ultra beer which I don't think is horrible. Have not looked it up yet.4

I find that the parties are easier to handle than the day to day living. For parties, I can make a plan, and a few dishes, and I am set. The daily stress of the holidays, combined with lost of good available food, derails me some lately.
I was a teacher, and rarely in the staff room, so office food was never a problem for me, but if is something you pass often, I would go with a nice trail mix for yourself (and to share if you wish). Make it LCHF friendly.
I have to admit that I had to look up menudo. I'd never heard of it (as a western Canadian with a Ukranian/German heritage). It sounds tasty though. Can you bring a LCHF dish to share and keep your carby portions down? Or have a small helping. I would say that your option would be to just go for it but with insulin resistance, that will affect your health.I think im going to spend my holidays in Australia next year lol @EbonyDahlia
That sounds like a great plan. It's been soooo cold here this December. It's supposed to get above zero today... that seems so balmy. Practically shorts weather. Even sledding yesterday, it was only around -5 or -10C, and the kids were in sweatshirts.1 -

I love crawfish ettoufe! I haven't had it in years!
I found two recipes for it shortly after going keto but I never tried making it. I've never made it myself before low carb either.

I gotta tell you that I agree with you 100%! This past month has been horrible and it feels like it's been dragging on. I've been relatively good so far, but every day is a challenge with all the sweets and carby things all over the place. I just keep thinking that soon it'll be January and soon everyone will be diet minded and things will quiet down. But if I had started LCHF around this time instead of back in April when I did, I probably would have given up by now, haha! It's only because I'm 8 months into my journey that it's been doable for me. I feel like why give up now because I've already made such great progress. But damn I just want this year to be over, lol!3

Ugh. Don't remind me about January. Pretty soon I am going to be tripping over the hordes of "this year will be different" while I'm trying to lift. At least it only lasts for a couple of weeks before nearly all of them go back to doing anything other than working on their bodies.4
