I'm Tamika,
I'm in the Pre Op stage with 3 more months of supervised diet/meeting with nutritionist.
Age: 39 Height 5'6 HW 265 SW 256.4 CW 259.4 GW 150. I'm on a low carb 45g/day diet for now. My initial consult was back in March and I was 256.4 managed to lose 4lbs in 2 months then gain it plus 3 more this month. So I'm going all in, refocused on my exercise and eating habits to lose the weight. Just had a sleep study done and was diagnosed with sleep apnea so I'm having mixed feelings. It helps since I was borderline on my BMI with no comorbidity but the sleep apnea does increase my chances of my insurance approving the surgery which I hope to have in Oct/Nov.0 -

Hi! My name is Kathy. I started this journey 10 years ago at age 55 with Lap Band surgery. After 9 years of living with a band that hated me (sliming, throwing up, etc.) I had a revision to VSG in December 2017. It's the best decision I ever made!
Age 65
5'3"
Banded 12/18/07
HW 281
LW (with band) 207
Revision to VSG 12/13/17
HW 230
SW 219
CW 166
Size - large tops and 16 pants
I'm shooting for a goal of 140. At my age, I'm just trying to get healthier, not looking to get into a bikini, lol.3 -
@nanakat2017 Congrats on you revision and success youve found. And on traveling into the future to have the surgery in Dec 2017. Really impressive! Lol5

Sorry about that! I meant 2016. Haven't gotten my time machine working yet, lol.4

Hi. I'm Jenni, a 39 yo grandmother. I decided to do this to keep up with my precious granddaughters and tackle my insulin resistance. On the path to VSG.

Current weight: 235, size 18w, 1/2x
I've had my psych consult and meet with the nutrtionalist this week. My family doctor has been monitoring my weight loss, and I don't know if my Anthem insurance will accept that or require an additional 6 month diet program. I can only lose 9 more pounds on my own and still have a 40 bmi as required by my insurance. The program I'm going through is at Ohio State. I hope to know more on Thursday after my appointment. I'm happy to be here!8 -
You can do this! Great job so far.1

I just passed my two year surgical anniversary a couple of days ago. These pictures are 5 years apart and are neither my highest nor my lowest weight (but is a current weight).
Starting weight was 285, surgery weight 256, low weight 143 point something, current weight 157 and around 18% body fat. I'm annoyed that I never managed to get to half of my starting weight but can't be mad at my body composition!
I started run/walk intervals in December 2015. In February 2016 I ran a 5k without stopping for the first time in more than 20 years. So far this year I've run 9 races--25k trail run, 5 half marathons (one of which went to the top of a big bridge!), 2 10k, and a 5 mile on the 4th of July. I'm signed up for a half in August, but thinking of pulling the trigger and going for my first full ahead of schedule.
When I'm being balanced, I also mix in a fair amount of kettle bells, yoga, elliptical, and cycling. I also became a vegetarian in December...but I haven't decided how I feel about that long term.

Although I had a rough recovery with an extended liquid diet, dehydration, and other issues, I am finally starting to feel better and able to eat. I was getting terrible hunger? pains and making poor choices because of this. I never had any hunger pains from the first surgery. I am happy to say that has improved somewhat. I still need to eat better again though. It's like I went from liquid to junk! I might have an ulcer they told me. It is too soon to scope me. So, for now, I am on some meds like Zantac and Sucralfate. I have stomach pain a lot, but it is not the same gnawing ache I used to get. I go back in the beginning of August and will know more then. My weight loss has slowed because of poor choices. I have been getting out and walking finally. This was something I haven't done in years. It's really tough with my fibromyalgia, arthritis and back pain. I am doing it though. I am still not up to 10,000 steps. I average about 8,500. Still, this is a lot for me. I also remember to take all my vitamins these days. I still need to up the water, protein shakes and improve eating.
Since May I have not any migraines! I used to get them every day. I even got them more than once a day at times. I was getting migraines for about a year. I no longer have high blood pressure.
I was on around 15 medications for all my ailments, plus the vitamins and supplements! After the recent surgery, I had to take them in 15 min intervals. This proved to be difficult. I didn't get them all in all the time. I asked my psychiatrist to let me stop them because I was already messed up on dosages. I only took the anti-depressant. Luckily, for some reason, I didn't get terrible withdrawals. Some of those meds I came off of before for whatever reasons and I knew they were hard to withdraw from. I am happy to say that I no longer have migraines and my depression is in check. I was so drugged up before. I feel alive now. Before I just existed. It isn't easy to have emotions again, but it feels right. My only negative is that without some of those meds that have off label uses my pain has increased greatly.
I only take 3 prescriptions for WLS (Vitamin D, Zantac, and Sucralfate), 1 for fibromyalgia and arthritis pain, 1 for mental health and 2 for hypothyroidism (probably brought on by years on lithium)! I have a medical card and take CBD capsules mainly. Sometimes I have other forms of cannabis if in terrible agony (Legal in my State).
Thanks if you read all that lol. Feel free to add me. I need lots of supportive friends as I don't have any friends in my town. I will also support you and help when I can!

I had VSG surgery on July 10th, 2017.
I am 5'4 and 34 years old.
Highest Weight - 301lbs February 2017
Pre-Op Weight - 296 (June 22, 2017)
Surgery Weight - 284 (July 10, 2017)
Current Weight - 266 (July 20, 2017)
I wear 22/24 pants and a 2-3x top.
I wear a size 10 shoe.
I currently take one anti-depressant, narcotic pain medicine for spinal stenosis, probiotics & digestive enzymes, a low-dose of blood pressure medicine for my hypertension and Vitamin D once a week. Since surgery I have added an acid-reducer (Protonix) and a bariatric multi-vitamin.
My goal is to remove the BP med completely and possibly come off my anti-depressant. My surgeon told me that in folks that lose 50-70% of their excess body weight, 49% have experience less depression, often able to come off medication. Those two medications affect my libido and cause a lot of stress & anxiety.
I'm pleased with an 18lb reduction in weight in 10 days time. I'm happy with my choice to have surgery, but I am still grieving food and coping with that addiction. I do have a therapist available if needed.3 -
Was sleeved 4/4/17, HW 273, SW 237, CW 187. Beginning 2-3x, 22/24, Current Med , Some Large, 10. Am off Blood pressure meds and blood sugar meds. Getting sleep study to see if can stop C-Pap5

Just found this group, glad I did so!
Lapband in 2008, fought the tool, lost 80 pounds (started at 380), then it stopped working. Finally went in to see my bariatric surgeon, and we uncovered a serious problem that I won't go into here (because it happens to less than 1% of lap band recipients) but the lap band had to come out. Meanwhile, my weight ballooned up to 430.
RNY December 2012
High weight: 430
Shirt: 5x-6x, same with the pants.
Shoe: 9EE male (I'm female!)
Current weight: 285 and dropping
Shirt size: 2x, same with pants, but everything is baggy
Shoe: 9W woman
Height: 5'6"
I had been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome - diabetes II, high cholesteral, high triglycerides, high BP. Since surgery, I am off all diabetic meds with an A1c = 5.2, cholesteral and triglycerides in normal range, BP 110/70. I'm 64, starting on the third phase of my life, and feeling better than I have in years.
I'm currently on the Paleo 30-day reset diet. My bariatric surgeon recommended Wired to Eat by Ron Wolf, and I read it, it made a lot of sense to me. Plus, my weight loss had bee stalled for a couple months. And, my older sister is gluten-intolerant, and I know that runs in families. So I decided to try Paleo. I've been eating Paleo for a week now, down 5 pounds and feeling good. I'll see how it goes.7 -
