I find that thinking about my own tiny successes and reading about others' tiny successes so inspiring and motivating. Please share them here if you don't mind.
I'll kick off this discussion with one of my own...
It was 5 weeks ago, my doctor told me that I had entered the pre-diabetic stage. Yikes. Coincidently, I watched "The Way We Think About Sugar Is Going To Change". Another coincidence is that I was taking a course about "Tiny Habits" a concept Dr. BJ Fogg who is an expert in creating systems to change human behavior.
A friend and I decided to make one tiny change in the way we eat. We decided to limit our daily sugar intake to 50g or less and use MFP to track it. I've been very diligent about it and here are my results: down 8.8lbs, more energy, less cravings, clothes are fitting looser, and the dark ring around my neck and dark spots spots on my knees (condition that pre-diabetic and diabetic people develop that indicates too much glucose in the bloodstream) are gone!
Limiting my sugar intake has been miraculous. Easier than any fad diet I've been on before (including the tactic of just limiting the amount of calories I eat). I know that I'm going to be able to sustain this lifestyle change with fun and ease.
Last weekend I attended a nutrition class for pre-diabetics. It was very informative. I will continue to limit my daily sugar intake using MFP and all your support and encouragement out there. During this second month, I'm taking on one more "change" since attending that nutrition class which is limiting carbohydrates between 35-45g per meal (which is for women; 45-60g/meal for men). I'm going to do this for the next month or so. MFP makes it so easy to track this.
One change at a time. It really does make a difference in making a lifestyle change. When the third month approaches, I'll keep you all posted if I incorporate another "change". Thanks for all your support.
I go into my doctor for a blood sugar test follow-up in October. I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks for the sugar post. I think if more people cut down on added sugars they would see dramatic changes in their health.
I don't know if this is "tiny" or "big" but I try to get 10,000 steps in EVERYDAY . After I got over a case of shingles last year I picked up walking again. Since November 17 I've hit my step goal everyday except one. I think consistency is key to health maintenance. This moving plus cutting down sugar has resulted in losing about 30 lbs.so down over 200lbs total now from my highest a few years ago.7 -
I'm on my third day of not eating sugary foods, and so far it's going well.4

My turkey neck has nearly disappeared!3

I have noticed that my pants are too big. Need to get another notch put into my belt ! I have found that making small changes and getting used to the change is a good way to go as you are more likely to be successful.5

Now 49, probably best shape of my life.21 -
I really needed this today. A little back story, I started this at 43, I was 244 and looking to get down to 144. About 2 years later I was at 146, that didn't look good on me so I thought 150 would be a nice area Fast forward 44, 45, 46, 47 those were the good years, tuned 48 and started noticing some changes in my body. Now at 49 I seem to have a little belly fat that just seems happy where it is. The scale seems to want to be in the high 160's so to keep from wallowing in the past I started doing some Sworkit workouts and some 30 Day Challenges. I can see improvements in my strength workouts so just knowing I am getting stronger is a success that I can live with.
I will probably always work on my eating but that's okay! Sometimes we have to work with what we have.4 -
I only recently realized that when I walk my thighs don't hike my shorts to my crotch - I no longer have to yank them back in place every 5 minutes.10

Great stories! Thanks for sharing! My most recent NSV is that I noticed my tastes buds are changing when I ate some celery stalks yesterday and they tasted so yummy. lol
Please keep sharing!2 -

Congrats on the maintenance! So inspiring.1 -
Yes, I too have been cutting my processed sugar and foods down. Lowering my carbs, not super low but lower for myself. Getting sugar from natural sources, like fruit.
This isn't my first time down this road. I am what you call a restricter by necessity ( meaning I can not practice moderation) it just doesn't work for me. I have lots of triggers food which set me back down the road of sugar/processed foods.
So, I choose to restrict.
I'm on day 23 and I'm finally ok with drinking my green tea unsweetened again. And somethings are tasting just to sweet!

I'm a little over a month in to my keto diet [started 8-1] and I'm down 12 pounds! I won a challenge for the month of August at my gym based on logging on MFP and weight loss and inches [lost 2 inches from waist chest hips and 1 from calves and arms]. I feel great and am getting closer to my goal! Start weight 167 current 155 goal 140 ish ...5

oops forgot to add NSV...i started running 2 times a week in addition to the boot camp I do 3 times a week using the 'Running for weight loss' app [looks like a flame]. And I've gone from 2.8 in the 40 minutes allocated to 3.3 in the same time...woo hoo. Recommend this app if you want to get into running...it has you walk run and sprint and gradually changes the ratios as you improve...2

Im new to the group. So I'll post my story, and try not to ramble too much. I was a normal weight during my 20s. Wasn't the paragon of fitness but in decent shape.
By the time I was in my 30s, I started packing on the pounds. Poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, high stress job, and a hatred of traditional gyms, left me three months shy of my 38th birthday and 270 pounds on a 510" frame. I had an infant son and I was on the fast track to a coronary.
Due to a chance meeting, I ended up trying a free class at a local MMA gym. I was instantly hooked. I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu mixed with a little kickboxing and Muay Thai 5 to 7 times a week. I cleaned up my diet (which mainly consisted of eating fast food almost every day) and the pounds just fell off. 50 pounds came off of the first 7 months or so. I started MFP but my logging and weighing of food was very sporadic. Those first 50 lbs came off so quick with just fixing my diet to a reasonable one (portions and quality of food) and the workouts I got with BJJ/MMA, that MFP wasn't really necessary.
The next 25lbs came off with MFP consistency and a CICO approach. That weight came off around the 16 month mark. The last 15 or so lbs I have played around with the last 3 or so years. I've decided due to some sports competition goals, I want to walk around at 180 and cut to 170 or 175 as needed. 180 seems to fit my body well. I keep CICO with MFP and have been taking an IF approach the last 6 months. IF seems to really work for my schedule and my body.
At 42, I am in the best overall shape of my life overall. And I'm never going back. (Before and after pics included.)

This is great everyone! Love it! Yesterday, I was able to do 12 push-ups on my toes (not on my knees) without stopping!5

Latest NSV: Went in yesterday for my blood sugar level retest. Great news! I am out of the pre-diabetic range and am now in the healthy range for blood sugar levels. It's even lower than it was 5 years ago. I'm so elated that my hard work and diligence has paid off. Not gonna stop...gonna continue on this awesome journey of health. Thanks all for being a part of it!4

Latest NSVs: increased my workouts from 3-4 workouts/week to 4-5 sometimes 6 times/week; down from size 12/14 to 8/10; and even if I overindulge one day it's become so natural to get back on track the next day (which was never the case for me before)1

Went to the mall this weekend and bought 33" waist pants. Down from 42" this past February! Changes over the past 9 months include losing (slightly) above 50 lbs due to a low carb diet and some general body transformation due to working out a minimum of 3x / week. I actually started working out 5x / week the last week of October and I've only missed one workout due to illness since then.5

Hello, newbie here. I started my "diet" 4 weeks ago with the goal of losing a pound a week, increasing my activity levels and trying to eat a salad a day. I've lost 6.1 pounds so far and I have been using the treadmill some (although still not as much as I probably should) and I have been doing pretty good at logging everything I eat, except when I eat out and the nutritional info isn't available. My overall goal is to lose 30 pounds, keep it off, eat better and be more active.
I'm working really hard at trying to eat new things, replace my less than healthy meals and snacks with healthier ones and ultimately I just want to weigh less and feel better about myself. I went from being on the low end of the BMI for my height/age to being on the high end of it within a few years time due to a change in lifestyle.6 -
My second time around getting this weight off. The first time, I lost 115 lbs and was running marathons after being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. In Feb, I was involved in a car accident and gained 55 lbs back. I was cleared to exercise a month ago so the week before Thanksgiving, I joined the community center, got myself clip shoes for spin and have now lost 8 lbs and feel so much better. I'm on a Mission:55 quest for 2018.2

It's cookie week at work aka torture week. I am definitely a savory over sweet type of gal, but it's still hard to resist day in and day out. Doing pretty good so far. Last day at work this week and then headed into a vacation. More temptation!!1

I've tried to lose weight before and always failed meaning I couldn't stick with it for even a day or I would reach my goal weight and gain it all back plus more. That is until now. I'm successful this time because I took on weight loss purely for health reasons and quality of life.
I did not want to suffer from a life of diabetes (see my first post that kick-started this discussion). So my latest NSV is a huge one for me.
I read the MyFitnessPal "The Problem with BMI and the Number You Should Watch" in November of this year. In this blog, it states, "Waist circumference has been shown to be more reflective of visceral (deep) fat levels and future health risks such as the development of Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and certain cancers." So, since then I decided to not just monitor my weight on a scale weekly but also my waist circumference measurement. So back to my latest NSV that I'm so excited about...Last Thursday (which is the day I weight myself) I measured my waist circumference. It was 35 inches! According to the blog, "For men, waist-circumference levels should be below 40 inches, and for women it should be below 35 inches."
So, I'm almost there! Small baby steps. Here's to overall health!6 -
Yes, Overall Health is really the best way to look at things. I know we get numbers stuck in our heads about what we should weigh but then all the other stuff gets lost. Do we have any stamina, do we love the way we look, lots of other numbers our doctors can help us understand Keep up the good work and keep looking for those NSV!!!2

I like to look for non-scale victories. Please continue to share yours. My lastest NSV...I rode in an airplanes over the holiday and didn't need to adjust (widen) the seat belt! In fact, one ride I had to make it smaller.1
-
Two new NSVs. First one, I'm ordering a bathing suit in size M that I had ordered last July in size XL! Second one is that I was upset last Thursday and wanted to emotional-eat but I didn't. In fact, I was still under my calorie goal when I completed my log in in the evening. In the past, I would have eaten emotionally when I was upset, angry, or sad. This is a huge victory for me. .
Please post your NSVs--big or small--to celebrate yourself and each other.4 -
I didn't feel the need to take advantage of my planned cheat day today.5

Today I am back on MFP taking back control and finding myself again! NSV3
