March Challenge!!

Yesterday was my 62nd day of being keto true. It was not a good keto day! I fell off the keto wagon hard! Crazy thing is I can’t blame keto, I can only blame myself. I wasn’t hungry, I wasn’t craving, I was just weak and I caved. I was exposed to a bunch of NOT KETO FRIENDLY FOOD and I caved.
What disappoints me most about my behavior is I was even outside of my eating window when I gave in. Then, I not only sampled, I went back for more and different NONE KETO FOODS. This is the type of behavior that has sabotaged many of my previous weight loss efforts.
In the past I have caved and then quit. Today I am publicly announcing the start of another keto true streak. Although I’m certainly out of ketosis, I’m back on the keto road. I now have a new goal/record of at least 63 keto true days starting with today, Saturday, 10 March. I will mark my calendar for Saturday, 12 May. I would love to be still posting in our May thread on that day.

I like your plan of marking the calendar, stormy... it gives you something to work towards!
It happens to all of us at some time or another, it's getting back on plan that counts (and as quickly as possible). Don't worry too much, some people work "carb up" days into their plan on purpose! You may even be pleasantly surprised with a nice loss this week... I've had the scale reward me for a higher carb day before (after the initial water retention disappears)
Great job getting back to keto so quickly!0 -
@stormywxs288 It really doesn't matter if you blow it for a day or two, you will gain some water weight but the important thing is that after 62 days on Keto you are fat adapted and so your body will keep on burning fat for it's preferred fuel just so long as you don't go mad for days!1
-
@stormywxs288 you are not human if you don't cave every once in a while. It happens. And honestly sometimes when you take a day to eat like a happy fat kid, it can help you lose more that week once you are back on track. I had that happen a couple times. It was a pleasant surprise lol. Just get back on the keto wagon and don't look back.
Now that I got my health and body in order. It's time to get my house in order! We started spring cleaning today. Filled the hubs truck with junk and took it to the dump. I'm downsizing my body, and the junk in my house lol. I feel like when your house is in order and you feel good about it, it helps keeps you motivated and wanting to keep everything in your life in order including what you eat and how you take care of yourself.

No weight loss action this week . I started a 5x5 weightlifting program so maybe that's why. I'm maintaining though
Best wishes on a great upcoming week for everyone!

Whew, didn't think I'd have any real change with all the stress both at home and work this week. But I believe a slight tweak in my macros seems to have helped.

March Goal: 2291 -
This is the first week of 2018 I gained weight. I weighed in this morning at 173.0, a 1.0 pound gain for the week. There are several reasons for my gain this week: First, I ate too many calories and too much protein ALL WEEK. My wife was “Dog Sitting” for one of my kid’s family and left me “Home Alone” all week. Evidently, I require adult supervision, because I didn’t behave well in her absence.
Second, I had a total keto melt down one night while I was home alone. Outside of my eating window I had an hour of temporary insanity. I ate everything NON-KETO in the house. I ate enough to knock me out of ketosis for a week. I’m ok now though. I got it out of my system! I’ve set a goal to extend my current keto true streak (1 Day) to a new personal record (PR) streak.
I‘m confident I can set a new PR streak. I’m not hungry, I don’t crave, I like eating in a short window and I reallly like intermittent fasting. I also love the way I feel. My joints, my energy, and my brain are all functioning better. So why do I sabotage my efforts? I’ve been workin on that one for 68 years now.

Feeling great but the scale isn't cooperating as much as I'd like. I'm thinking too much social drinking isn't helping.

I'm BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!! Did you miss me?! I missed you guys!! I had one of those weeks where I just could NOT be bothered with weighing myself, my food. Didn't exercise much. I felt really blah. With all the storms here in NJ, everyone was home, and I was busy running the house. I was just physically and mentally exhausted. Last night I went out for ladies night. I needed that so badly but I didn't realize it until AFTER I was there. I made the good choices, ate the meats, drank the water, skipped the alcohol and got hit on my some random drunk old dude. Creepy? Maybe but I'm counting it as an NSV because well...I'm hot!
All that AND I managed to drop a lb or 2 since the last time I'd logged on. Let me be real with you all though as I need to be open about this. I find it frustrating to keep the deficit, AND exercise so much and see less results than I was seeing in 2017. If anything I have cleaned up my eating, and increased my fitness level and the downward movement has become slow. I do know ultimately in the long run it won't matter how long it took to get where I'm going (beast-mode in healthy-land) but it doesn't change the fact that I prefer faster weight loss (duh, who doesn't?!). I accept this sloth-like movement downward, but I don't have to love it right now. I'm not planning on letting frustration turn into defeat though. I'm telling you this because eventually EVERYONE feels frustration and that's when we're most likely to quit. I hate that I've quit on myself before. There, I said it!! PHEW!
Other random NSV, I averaged 8 solid hrs of sleep per night with some nights near 1.5hrs of deep sleep. SCORE!!

I for one missed you! I look forward to your insightful remarks. This is only my 10th week in keto and I sabotaged my efforts last week partially because I was anticipating glacier like weight loss movement coming. So, your comments today hit me between the eyes. I'm with you and I won't quit either. Thanks for your support and welcome back to spring - I hope.

I'm definitely not hitting that 8.4lb goal. Heck, at this point I'll be lucky to crack 5lbs. I've decided to hunker down and get back to basics. No more lazy keto... apparently "if it fits your macros" style isn't working for me!

Sunday is the worst day to weigh myself! All my weekend drinks and slight cheats catch up with me on Sunday lol! I can't do it, gotta wait til I fast this off0

Good MORNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!! A thing happened this weekend. Mr Nikki's company sent him for blood work. He needs to stay on top of his health to keep a discount on our health care premiums. His labs came back with a few markers at high risk. This means that they will put him on a diet plan. I'm sure it will be some form of SAD low fat diet blah blah. Unfortunately they didn't upload A1C which is the one I really wanted to see.
I'm thinking of encouraging him to try Stillman. He loves his fruits and so he won't do Keto with me, but I think the fruits allowed on Stillman may work for him.
I decided to keep my eating LC & LF for the remainder of march. I've spent a lot of time introducing this and that to my diet (dairy for example) and it just doesn't work for me. As restrictive as it may seem, I do much better when my diet is restrictive and there is a definitive list of yes food/no food, the shorter the yes list, the better.
So here I go with this super boring menu for the next two weeks. I'll be sure to let you know how much it sucks by the end of March.2 -
I'm giving up alcohol in hopes for better results (and health) but I still feel like I'm being very diligent and seeing very little results on the scale and in measurements. I see that some of you are having amazing weight loss results. I feel like if I'm not losing big now, in the beginning, then when? Any advice or words of wisdom? I'd appreciate it!3

@eggfooyamyam Weight loss slows down for everyone at some point. If you're truly being diligent about your meals & any exercise then go back and set new food goals. The 195lb me can not eat the same amount of calories the 260lb me did and expect the same rate of weight loss. Even when I run 30 minutes I burn less calories than when I used to walk for 30 minutes 7 months ago, and I expect I will likely burn even less the further down I go.
There are many factors to why the scale moves or doesn't. Alcohol is one. While your liver is working on removing alcohol from your blood, it doesn't break down fats into ketones. Stress=cortisol=excess water in the body. Hidden health issues etc.
Here are a few others.

My wife and I eat almost exactly the same diet, as she eats what I make. In ten weeks I've lost 32 lbs and she has lost 5 lbs. The only thing she has done that I don't is acohol. She refuses to give up her beer on our bowling nights. In my opion, I think she knocks herself out of ketosis every Thursday night at the bowling alley.
We're all experiments of one and I'm certainly not an expert. For me I'm not to the point where I can intuatively eat keto. I have to be very intentional. I use MFP and other sources to calculate and track macros, calories, BMI, and weight. MFP is truely My Fitness Pal.

Your wife most likely has a lower basal metabolic rate. Even eating the same food & amounts her deficit is probably lower than yours so she'd lose less weight than you have. So unfair!3 -
Diligence is never estimating that this is a tablespoon of peanut butter (or butter, or coconut oil, or mayo, or shredded cheese, or, or, or if not losing weight.
Guess-timating may not apply to everyone but extended guess-timating is hazardous to my maintenance since I choose to eat a variety of things and many of those things include fat @ 9 calories per gram. This 100 calorie serving is more like 300. Perhaps I'm posting as a reminder to self.

Yay to March!
I turned 30 last week (woohoo!) and my boyfriend took me to Vegas for 4 days. I really enjoyed it and decided to step out of keto for those days while sticking to OMAD to somewhat limit the damage, lol. I came back Friday and I was SO bloated! I could tell that there was a lot of water weight weighing me down and the flight back home felt uncomfortable and blah. Incredible how bad an effect carbs have on me. I had quite a few drinks as well, so I know I had more than 1500cals a day. All in all I had an amazing time in Vegas, I started a new decade and there's no time for having regrets! As a new immigrant in the US I had really missed travelling as I used to travel every 3 month or so. I did not step on the scale since I got back because I know I gained weight most of it being water and I don't want to worry about that.
I am back on OMAD and keto and will weigh in this week!

I am in the same boat! I started back in January and have barely lost a full 10 pounds. I have a keto friendly drink a few times a week and I really think that this is holding me back. To make things worse my boyfriend is an amazing bartender and makes the most delicious cocktails (jalapeno margarita or keto chocolate martini, anyone? )
I love my bourbon but I think I am going to give it up for a month and see how my body reacts to that. Being on keto really motivates me to experiment with my body and see how it reacts to different things.
I need a no-alcohol-for-a-month keto buddy to keep me accountable !2
