I'm about to be real! This weigh-in sucks for me. Not because I am logging a gain (I've done that plenty of times. More because of the way lack of control. This past weekend I decided to have Christmas in June. Why? Well, many birthday celebrations, get togethers, busy week, and the Mr and I decided we would have one of our traditional latin meals once a month. Since I decided to eat cake this weekend, I figured, what the heck, and just ate all the things all weekend long, and I mean ALL THE THINGS!! So much that I got it out of my system and I don't want to see another piece of cake, or grain of rice until December.
I have to add here that I am not being hard on myself. I do, however, need to work through these things to better understand myself and make the changes necessary for improvement. Plus, accountability!
I usually plan meals, or days like this and the end result doesn't bug me, mostly because I know the gain isn't the end. I just get right back to plan and that's that. I expect the few lbs of gain and just work to chip them off again, but something felt different about this time. I was definitely not in control of myself, and I don't like it one bit. Today I woke up and eased right back into what I know I should be doing. Maybe I needed the reminder of how crappy I can feel after eating too many carbs. Maybe I needed to be up half the night scratching my head because it was on fire (seriously!). MAYBE...I need to remind myself of my WHYS. Maybe I need better WHYS. I think maybe my WHYS need to be more important than my WHY NOT.
SOOOOOOOOOOO, for June, I will be evaluating and sharing my WHYS.
Here are this week's WHYS:
Heart Disease and Diabetes have no place in my future. Before I started Keto, I had lab work done (Oct '16) I had high cholesterol, LDL, Chol/HDL ratio with an A1C in the pre-diabetic range. I used to kid myself that I was healthy and avoided Drs for years but that lab report was final and eye opening. I just made an appointment to have my yearly physical and I am making sure the Dr checks all these numbers again. You can be sure I'll be posting the comparison #s in the next few weeks.

Now you know my hot mess self still has an NSV!!! I still have my fat pants, the ones I was wearing in my before picture from last summer. Well, I can fit both legs into 1 pant leg. HAHAHAHAHA, take THAT cake and rice!!

Up 0.5 lbs from the last day of May, but I'm not too worried about that. I just came back from a weekend visit to family in Colorado and, while I was a little heavier than usual on carbs (~50-60g/day), I survived a lot of eating out, two street festivals, and the ice cream shop my brother owns and still stayed close to on track while having a ton of fun. My body fat percentage went down enough to indicate I'm still dropping fat but put on some lean weight. That's probably water due to the higher than usual carbs, and/or that time of the month, and/or the cold that I picked up over the weekend. So I'm pretty confident that water weight will drop right back off and next week's number will be back on track.
So I'd say I had a pretty successful weekend!

NSV for me today...I just bought these shorts mid-April and purposely bought them a size smaller than what I was really comfortable in to help motivate me to lose. Less than 2 months later, I’m looking through the back of my closet for a belt because they won’t stay up!

I have two words for you Nikki: Cha Cha! It is all part of the dance isn’t it. I can relate to your week, I had a five+ pound gain this week. Before I met you and other “big picture” people on this thread I would have viewed a large gain like that an epic fail. I would have been too embarrassed to own it and I would have quit this thread, keto and mfp. Next January I would start yet another yo-yo program and set myself up for another cycle of failure for 2019.

My memory, hair, skin, nails, mood and other NSVs replaced my weight goals. I’m not saying weight is not important to me. You know I weigh myself at least once a day and I probably will continue that OCD behavior for the rest of my life. However, you and others have convinced me my hourly/daily/weekly weight checks are not the top priority.
I have not set any weight goals for June. I’m going to set performance goals instead. Goals like doing keto, following this forum and improving my cha cha skills for the rest of 2018.

Is it too late to join in? I didn't start keto until Wednesday, May 30th (after I got back from 4 days binging in Vegas) and jumped right in. I'd like some accountability as I'm starting out.4

Ok... I’m in... again!
I started out in December in the low 160’s. After the Christmas disaster, I committed to getting back on track in January and I was in the low 170s... I managed to get back to the mid 160’s and life continued to happen with stress at work, a husband and kids who resist my keto efforts but don’t cook or grocery shop, and then, an untimely death in the family just sent me spiraling downward...
...or should I say upward? I’m currently approaching my all time high somewhere in the 180’s (I haven’t been on the scale since I first saw 182 a few weeks ago and now I am too afraid to look)...
My plan is to go back to the basics for the rest of this week and get on the scale on Sunday... if I don’t come back next week to post my stats, someone please call me out. I have no support in real life so I need all of the cyber help I can get!7 -

I've decided to join a gym. I've realized one of my goals is to not only tone up, but really add on some muscle. I'm sure I could do this at home, but every time I get ready to work out, someone in the house "needs" me. I've gone back and forth for a long time, made lists of why I need/don't need to join the gym. Ultimately it comes down to me being one of those people that enjoys going out and using gym equipment. I also like being able to use a variety of machines for cardio & strength training.
Who else has/had a gym membership? What do you like/not like about it?6 -

oh boy I know that one, the hideous I can't get on the scales to look syndrome! So gird up your loins and get on those scales because actually no matter where they are you maybe just need to know as a start to coming down. Good luck this week and great to say how things have gone for you, we've all done that, been there bought the tee shirt (larger size!) etc!2 -
Ok, so I've hit a wall. I can't seem to break the 160 mark! I've been here for a month. Has anyone had a successful experience breaking a plateau? I'd sure like to know what worked for you.

I don’t have a gym membership, but I do workout daily with a few of my friends and relatives at the school I used to teach at. We hold each other accountable. The truth be told we are afraid not to show up because we know we will be the topic of conversation if we aren’t there to defend ourselves.
I’m just kidding about that (kind of???). The fact is, when we don’t show up or make a lame excuse, we know we will have to eventually justify our absence. I actually look forward to our exercise group each day because it is more than just the physical exercise for me. I get to be with my daughters, see some of my fellow x-coworkers and stay up on all the gossip I would have missed if I had just quit work with no ties left to the school.
Our youngest (my twin daughters) are 45 and our oldest is 69. We do an internet, no joke exercise routine each weekday. We have different instructors and routines daily. We work on flexibility, balance, range of motion, coordination and total body fitness over the course of each week. And we also do the typical strength and cardio stuff.
There are days when I have to drag myself there and there are days when I use it as an excuse to get out of mowing the lawn. In general, it is a practice that I’m proud to say, I’ve been doing now for over 10 years. As the epitome of Mr. Yo-Yo, I’ve done it when I weighed over 210 and I’ve done it when I weighed less than 150.
That said, I think I can safely say, my exercise group has NOT been a magic pill for my weight loss journey. However, it has most likely kept me from having a heart attack and has made a huge contribution to my sanity.

Hi All!
I'm back! Went to Hawaii and it was amazing and fabulous. I had the time of my life but I didn't eat Keto and didn't log. I gained 8 lbs.
I think eating the carbs I did caused me to retain water, my legs/ankles swelled up after 6 days. I've been home 10 days now and back on Keto and lost all the swelling and the 8 lbs.
I feel great and happy to be back at it seriously.
Really want to to get solidly into the 160s this month!

I have this dream where all the other groups on MFP are rooms in a large building filled with struggling dieters and I run into all of the rooms like a madman screaming, "KEEEEETOOOOO!!!!!"
Also, I started exercising. I'm happy, but my legs no longer work.7 -

Have you rechecked your macros/calories as you've lost weight? It may just be that a few days of doing a few less calories will kick start you again. Not that I'm advocating that for a long time but I know when I'm stuck (not the times I truly deserve to be stuck!!) I can eat less for a few days and I'll drop and then if I'm luck it will become my new 'set point' and there I will stay for a while. However as we all know we are all different!!3 -

Hi you're doing your best! Just curious tho are you planning to stay keto during your festivities?? (vacation etc)
(Not sure what my goal will be for June but I am definitely going to try to be in my low 170s!
The past week has been a little bit mentally rough for me. I have been doing my strict diet and I have NOT cheated at all and I gained 1.6 lbs. I was so excited that I reached the greatest weight loss on 5/28/18 which was at 180.4 and the next day I was up to 182.6. I was SHOCKED but I didn't give up or cheat. I kept on my diet plan and this AM I am at 182...
This is total BS !!! Today I am starting another Keto Meal plan . I wanted to loose another 5-10 lbs by 6/9/18 which is in another 8 days, I am really not sure if that is going to be doable at this rate ... Don't get me wrong I am happy that I have dropped 15 lbs since 5/2 which has been 30 days but I was really hoping it would've been more... I am going on vacation on 6/9/18 and my birthday is the week after that which I really want to be in the low 170s... Cross your fingers with me , I will keep ya posted!!!

@PeaceQT18 You need to try to accept that it took a while to gain the weight and that Keto isn't a magic wand which can make our fat/weight disappear quickly except in the first few days for some lucky people, you being one of them, who loose a lot very quickly at the beginning. This is a biological/chemical reaction where your cells give up the water they have been holding onto while you've been eating a higher carb diet. The flip side of this is also why we who follow Keto find it easy to put on several pounds overnight it seems when we eat carbs we are not used to.
You have lost a lot of weight at first and now you may just need to accept that it can take a while to loose weight especially where there isn't a lot to loose and you don't actually have a lot to loose. You will end up stressing yourself out and feeling like a failure if you set unrealistic goals. Just remember you have done well and this is a way of eating which has many benefits just one of which is weight loss. Look forward to your birthday and your holiday and just remember you are a lot lighter than you were and enjoy them!

I thought about cutting back the calories. I rarely eat more than 1200 in a day and I've heard that if you don't eat enough your body goes into starvation mode and won't give up the weight. I also am quite active with walking and gardening so I always run a calorie deficit. I hadn't thought about just cutting back for a few days.

I also try to run a higher deficit (through less calories or more exercise) when I am in a stall or need a kickstart. But, like you, I like my food too much to do it for long!!!

Nikki I went to my gym yesterday. Remember a few months ago I made a challenge to myself about doing 8 no kidding pull ups. Well, yesterday I set 10 pounds on the assisted pull up machine and I did 8 pull ups. What that means (In Theory), if I lose ten more pounds I should be able to do 8 no kidding pull ups.
Like said before, I’m not setting any weigh goals for June. However, I am going to make a new performance goal today. My goal is to do 8 real no kidding pull ups and post the video right here by the end of June. So, (In Theory) I better lose ten pounds or get stronger. BTW I my Gym and my exercise group.

This past week I really didn't feel like logging. I was eating well enough but just didn't feel like weighing and measuring every bite and being glued to my phone app all day. I find it's cyclical for me... I will have 4 or 5 strong weeks, and then I will have a week or two of minor struggles. Then I'll get re-inspired and have another good strong streak. I very rarely break keto, but every 3 or 4 months I'll take a weekend off of measuring and logging... the key is giving myself permission for a brief window (say 1 to 3 days) of TRULY RELAXING, and then getting back to the logging game no matter what...

I have no doubt you’ll have the same success with those last 35 pounds that you did with first ONE HUNDRED. Your calm, steady and measured approach to weight loss is impressive. I usually approach weight loss and other problems with the brute force approach. You’ve shown me it is ok to relax and not be so intense.
In fact, the old me would have quit after a 5-pound gain in one week. You and others on this thread have convinced me to own my defeats as well as my success and keto on. I don’t want to turn this thread into a mutual admiration society, but I have to say one more thing about your incredible accomplishment. It is not often we get even a glimpse at how to accomplish such an incredible feat. We are honored you have unselfishly shared with us both the insight and inspiration of how to keto on.
I’ve learned from you that short-term gains or loses are not as important as long-term success. I will probably never quit doing my brute force approach because it is in my DNA. However, you have put some dents in my helmet and tempered my approach to keto. My new goal is to accomplish 52 calm, steady and measured weeks of keto.
