    Motivation Monday ....

If you don't know what an "instant gratification monkey" is (because you haven't already watched this Ted Talk when I first posted it on pg 3) please do so .... then answer the following question inside the spoiler

Inside the mind of a master procrastinator – Tim Urban

    bcs2wdqgkqrb.jpg
Who would YOUR instant gratification monkey run to at the finish line, and what would that person be holding or take over from your Try To Avoid Doing List?

I also have 2 really bad knees that need to be replaced. I went to the Doctors and they won't Operate until I lose another 55 pounds. I really need to have this surgery done. I am in so much pain that its really hard to move or exercise.

Welcome. The good news is that you already know you can do this!

Question ... do you have a pool available? Before I had tkr, I found that it was a great way to exercise since it puts a lot less stress on my knees. Also, if you Google "exercises before knee surgery" you will find some things you can do sitting that will really help strengthen legs. Anything you can do before surgrey to improve fitness will pay off in spades during rehab.

The surgery, BTW, was the best thing I every did.

Is it too late to join? If not I included the info you asked for . If its too late no worries

    Username: Matthewsfive
    Weigh in day: Saturday
    Starting weight: 259.2 (on Feb2nd)
    Current Weight: 254.6 ( of Feb9th )

@matthewsfive - this is your new team. i have added you to our spreadsheet.

I am a little confused as feb 9th will be your week 1 weigh in but we are still only feb 3rd today. Is this your goal weight?

While we wait for you to clear this up i will be using 259.2 as your starting weight which should have been taken yesterday Feb. 2.

    What a start to WEEK 1 !

We have new members, new acronyms, a full step team, and lots of great chat. I am really inspired.

As to our search for someone to be co-captain, I really love doing the spreadsheets (both weights and stepping, etc.) and generally chiming in, cheering on, and enjoying the group every day. What I would love a co-captain to be able to do are the beautiful posts like @mari_moulin does ( <3 ) and finding thoughtful questions, challenges, and ways to keep the whole team posting and involved if possible. Even someone new could step up and give this a try if you have time - I started as co-captain during my first month, and it has been a blast. Of course, I'm retired and don't have small kids, jobs, and all those other life challenges! That is why I'm happy to keep on the day-to-day stuff like the spreadsheets. Let us know if you're interested to give it a try. If not - no worries, I'll keep bumbling along and you won't get as many pretty pictures. :p

Some other ideas for adding more steps and general motion to your day:
    • Pace or walk up and down stairs while brushing your teeth. Or march in place with high knees if you don't want to go running around the house with toothpaste drippage. Two full minutes!
    • Use your cordless or cell phone and walk the whole time you're talking.
    • Every time you sit down, do it a few times - don't quite touch the chair if you can! Voilà, you are squatting. 5-6 squats every time you aim for a chair - and your day just got better.
    • Dance with your kids! Make them laugh their heads off at your ultra cool moves! Get them to love those tunes!
    Have a fun day.

I send you a PM Did you receive it?

Hi all! Hope everyone is doing well!

My first weight in is tomorrow and I'm a little nervous for it. I've actually been on point with everything but I'm retaining water like crazy despite drinking over a gallon a day. Hopefully it will work itself out by tomorrow.

I got my workout done early and boy, did it kicked my butt. I am doing Liift4 and today was leg day 😵. I am now recuperating on my couch with my water dreading standing up lol.

Good luck to everyone with the upcoming week. Let's show it who's boss!

Happy Monday, everyone - all the weights and steps are recorded so far (I hope!) and it is great to hear of your excellent losses, steps, and even the bumps in the road.

@matthewsfive welcome! I'm sure you'll find some inspiration and lots of support in this group. You can see that there are people who have been there with the knee replacement surgery, exercise re-boots, and all sorts of situations. You'll get there, and I hope you keep on with this fantastic team. If ever there are any questions or anything, let me know here or by message - I'm Liselyn, the captain of this boat, ready to try to unconfuse as needed.

@perla4686 you have nothing to feel bad about - 2.6 pounds gone! 2 pounds a week should be your top speed at your age !!!! B)

@evangsimmons170 impressive! 5 pounds gone, and lots of steps taken, in every way. Fantastic job!

@lilee2018 - even though it seems like a tiny loss, those of us with the first weigh-ins each month only had a day or two to get there! Next week will be more normal :p

@jugar , did you get my PM about possibly being either the second co-cap or the second general motivator? (With the problems I've been having receiving Friend Requests, who knows if the system is letting my profile send / receive internal messages at the moment :| )

No! I never got a message - glad to hear you're interested. I'll send you an internal message and we'll have a discussion there or by email to see what would work best for you. It looks like "the system" is letting me send you a message at least...

    Thanks!!

@jan110144 < thank you for the nice welcome. I live in Pa and the weather at the moment is going crazy, once May rolls around we do have a pool. I will definitely use the water as much as I can. Thanks for the good pointers and I will google for those exercises.

Glad to hear you had a good experience with your surgery. It has me scared. I hear too many stories that fail. But I have no choice.

    Personal challenge check in:

    - recorded all my food
    - no soda
    - no alcohol

2/3 - yes to all three and stayed in calorie goals

Bonus - I weighed myself this morning and the scale said I was down 1.4 lbs from yesterday. YES! I know it’s water weight but I’ll take it!!
