Shrinking Assets - September 2020 Team Chat

I'm struggling. I haven't logged any food in a few weeks. I've lost all energy to plan smart meals or eat vegetables. My stomach feels like a bottomless pit that's just always hungry. My weight is back to square one and I'm too upset to even open Happy Scale to see the trendweight damage. Everything is sore from not getting enough movement and activity. I haven't been to the gym in weeks. I'm stressed out at work. My mental state is so frazzled I feel like I'm doing a bad job and not getting my job actually done. Even my apartment is a total mess. It's been raining pretty much non-stop for a week and it's sunny right now but I have to work, and it should start raining again by the time I get off work. It's only September and sun is starting to set before 8pm, we still have 3,5 more months of getting darker and colder and wetter before it starts to get better.
The only upside is that I know the weight is bloat for the most part, since my body fat seems to be down and my fingers specifically feel bloated (I've been fat-heavier than this and my rings never were so tight). At the end of August I got a body composition test done at work and it showed my visceral fat was at a healthy level. Since that's the most dangerous kind of fat, I'm really happy about the result. Even the test showed I'm extra bloated.
Next couple of weeks my goal is to just get back on track. Log food, get enough activity to feel good in my body, find a way to reduce this bloat somehow, find some inner balance. A colleague even recommended some meditation videos that he said were hugely helpful for him. He said he thought it's some hippie bull**** at first but tried it and it really helped, so I'm intrigued since we're usually on the same level of sensibilities about this kind of stuff.
The overwhelming majority of my colleagues are 40-something men. Most of them also do some sports. Most of them gained some lockdown weight, and since they're all so similar, they have no problem talking about their bodies and dieting at work. I'm uncomfortable in partaking in that conversation, but I listen. My boss has lost 20lbs since the beginning of July, and according to him the only thing he's done is split portion sizes in half and then wait 15 minutes before taking more food if he's still hungry. I was sitting there and just thinking "how????? does he not get hungry and destroy the world????". If weight loss was that easy for everyone, we'd all be in our goal weights.
Sorry for the rant, I really need to get this off my chest and try to find myself back into the right path.
Yesterday my husband was like “oh look, I’m losing weight; I need new shorts because these are too big”. He’s been eating what he wants, when he wants and not weighing or measuring a damn thing. He eats way more junk food than I do.
So, I feel your pain about the men who are like “look how easy weight loss is”. I want to punch them in the face. But I also don’t want to go to jail, so there’s that.
This is where you can rant and no one will judge you. My last 2 weeks have been awful and I feel my hard work coming undone but I’m frustrated by how easy it is to put it back on, so again, I completely understand where you’re coming from.
You can get back on track and you can succeed. You’ve got this.5 -
@LaurieWrobo whoooooppppp amazing well done you!!!!! It is so inspiring seeing people reach goal.... you make me believe, thank you!
@Curvybaja55 have a great day too
My check in.
Today was *kitten* with work. I thought working from home would be good but actually I really much prefer being in the office.... also I snack way more here.
I finished work and popped to the supermarket, I walked the whole way hk e persuading myself to move my workout to tomorrow morning (I'd planned to do it at lunch but ended up without a lunch break) but got in and got it done.... yeah!
20.40 and still got dinner to organise and eat, but needed to cool down and regain composure first so it was the perfect time to pop on here.
2 more days to the weekend..... come on, we've got this!1 -
A blip @Beka3695
Simply, life isn't easy, everything is a choice, what do you want? Do you need help getting there? If so we are here for you.1 -

This needs to be the law. We need a list of offences that allow you to give someone a bop on the nose;
1. Bragging about losing weight whilst putting in zero effort
2. Lining up several people abreast across a foot path and not giving any room when somebody comes along
3. Reaching over someone for something when shopping as if social distancing didn't exist
4. Parking your vehicle on a pavement so wheelchairs and pushchairs have to go in the road
If we don't reach 100 I would be surprised!5 -

Sometimes I feel like a lurker in these team threads because I read all the posts each day but only really chime in on weigh in days. I wanted to share how much I relate to and am inspired by what you all share!
@LaurieWrobo how pumped are you for wedding photos now?! I bet one will make an awesome progress post! Have you bought your dress yet?
This time of the year is always weird for people because of all the change that happens from summer to fall routines. Work madness, kids back to school, all those things! Im trying to remember that and be kind to myself as we shift into this new season, and think about just one or two simple priorities that I can carry forward.
Right now Im doing ok food and calories wise, but am greatly impacted by the poor air quality and wildfire smoke here in California. It has made exercise very difficult or impossible on really poor air days. I'm missing the stress relief and the feeling of getting stronger. It has almost made me forget about covid.

Set out for 10k - made 10k! Very, very, VERY slowly.
To be fair this is probably good training for when I actually get to run the last few miles of a marathon as I am running with pretty much no energy to call on.3 -
@kilobykilo awesome job!!! Go you!!!
@carriestrine I cannot imagine the air quality there. It is so wide spread!!! How far are you from the fires?
@TheMrWobbly is the lack of energy due to keto?
Good job guys!!1 -

Lol yes!!!!1 -

Unfortunately yes. Apparently it takes a while for your body to adjust and 10k is as far as I can go even then didn't feel good. I have to admit it - I love carbs!1 -

Weigh day Thursday
PW: 132
CW: 131.6
LTD: 5.0 (April 2020)
Ok so hoping this is actual (albeit slow) progress. I guess we will see. I have worked out regularly since April...Jazzercise on Demand during Covid actually got me started back on this train to lose weight and get more fit.
And to those with husbands/men that can eat one less peanut and lose, I can relate. While I have yo-yo'd and worked out to lose my 5 pds, my husband has managed to lose 18. However, he is my hero and happy that Keto works for him...I would just give up life without carbs... and starve since I really hate most veggies! Ha. Everyone I think has to find their path.3 -
The Idea Lounge is a place where we can come together to share our creative ideas and give our suggestions on how to make Fat2Fit the best challenge group on My Fitness Pal!
Challenges - Why challenges? There is nothing better to help keep the energy and commitment high, and the discouragement and staleness low. They are optional but really helpful. Tell us which ones you like, or what new ideas you'd like to see.
Suggestions - This is wide open! What would make F2F better? What bugs you? What works really well? Take some time to look around on other teams than your own, and if you see something you'd like your team to try, suggest it! Or if you think of ways we can improve communication, reward the right kind of progress, or make the community more welcoming and effective. Spill!

Just something great to share...
A couple months ago I spoke to an old coworker and we have been in touch ever since. This guy was the photographer at my wedding - we used to be really close.
I spoke to him yesterday. He said "you will never believe who I talked to today...our old secretary. I told her 'you would not recognize Beka. She is skinny and has solid grey hair."
I giggled a little. I've never been called skinny! HAHAHA!! I think skinny is pushing it - but it made me feel AMAZING!!!9 -
I apologize, the long weekend threw me off so yesterday felt like Tuesday and I didn't weigh in! I'll carry over from last week.

Weigh In Day: Friday
PW (Previous Weight):184.2
CW (Current Weight):181.2
I am so happy! Today I met one of my goals, to beat my lowest weight recorded in MFP. In March of 2015 I weighed 181.4. I beat it by .2!! Lol. Yay me!
This weekend will be a stressor for me. We hold a fundraiser for The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in honor of my step son who took his own life in October of 2017. The people who head up the fundraiser is my husband's ex-wife and his oldest son. The ex is awful. She makes remarks that make us feel unappreciated and almost to the point of verbal abuse. I want to help and be there but just don't know if it is worth my mental health. My husband is doing his best given the situation and doesn't deserve to be treated like that either.
Wish us luck!9 -
Thank you for your kind words, everyone! It really means a lot that you’re cheering me on. @Beka3695 yes please, carry over my weigh-in for both last week and the upcoming week (Sep 13th). I’m trying to get myself together so I can actually have some progress next week. Tbh it might take all September to get me back on my feet, but I’ll try.
I’ve been working late most days this week, yesterday I ”left early” and ended up leaving at 6.30. Today I met with my personal trainer at 1PM and didn’t open my computer after the session, trying to take a little break and reboot this weekend. The training session was good too, so things are kinda looking up.
@imgwendolyn2015 good luck on the fundraiser! I hope you guys, especially the ex-wife, can all focus on the cause and raising funds instead of personal differences or disagreements. Is there a way you could help the cause without participating in same activities as she does? How big is the fundraising effort, would it be possible to just donate a bit more money to the cause, maybe volunteer for a national/local program and skip the fundraiser altogether?4 -

5. Stopping to look at your phone/smoke a cigarette/say goodbye to a friend/whatever non-emerency reason right in front of a door or escalator, blocking it from everyone else.
6. When using elevators, going in first but staying in front next to the doors so others have to go past you in a tight space to get in the elevator
7. When entering the elevator first and not pressing the damn button while standing in front of it (this is especially applicable when there’s only one floor the elevator goes to)
8. Parking your shopping cart sideways on an aisle instead of parallel to shelves so it blocks the aisle while you look for what you want / try to make a decision / read labels / whatever
9. Entering a public transportation vehicle before letting out the people leaving at that stop/station, or standing right in front of the doors so you’re blocking others from exiting
10. Not holding the door open for people with wheelchairs, child prams (what’s the right word?), walking aids, big luggage etc.
11. Taking photos in dressing rooms (there’s a thousand places to take ”yayyyy at the gym, getting the pump on” selfies, a dressing room with other people isn’t one of them)
Whew, this felt good.4 -

It's a whole big thing. Raffles, DJ, food, swag...
I wish I could avoid it all together, but I want to be there to support my husband. I just hope that something rings her bell so she can see how she is treating people. I will be the bigger person and just avoid conflict, ignore her if I have to, and get through the day.

Wooohoo! I kind of can't believe I've made it, and am mentally prepared for the scale to fluctuate a bit over the next week until I'm sure I'm solidly in onederland.
This means I've reached my goal set back in March, but I think I'd like to target 185lb ultimately. That was a very healthy weight for me a long time ago, but 160lb is technically a healthy BMI. I guess we'll see, I can evaluate as I go. All certainly better than where I started and I feel great!9 -

I am so sorry, team. Ten days and 3300 miles were not good to me. We moved my son to DC and it was a challenge foraging for food and getting my walks in. My son has some dietary restrictions and a lot of food places were closed so we did the best we could. I managed one good walk but it got rained out on a few other days. Got a lot of steps in some days but my knee injury reared it’s ugly head while I was on the road so I’ve regressed in my walking progress. Then our anniversary was yesterday and I had cake, which I didn’t even care for, but it was chocolate, so....
But I was back in the gym this week. Been working on getting the kinks out and I didn’t lose strength while I was gone, so that’s a plus. Had to use my pain meds that i have to ration and that seemed to help too. My walks have been tough so I’m going slower for shorter distances. I’m hoping this is only a temporary setback but just stunned at the weight increase.
My one NSV was that we had a cold front blow through here yesterday. I pulled out a pair of capris and they are baggy on me!
Groceries are restocked, menu is planned, water bottle is next to me. It’s time to refocus and get back in the game!6 -

@imgwendolyn2015 I hope the fund raiser does as well as possible. Obviously these situations are highly stressed and I only hope you day goes without unnecessary barbs.
If it helps I was once told 'if you wouldn't take advice from someone why would you listen to their criticism?' - came in handy on more than one occassion.4 -
