@adhmrh
What a great way to use MFP.
@trooworld
Thank you so much for the staycation updates. What a great day you had, getting so many of your fitness actions checked off! Impressive!
@TeresaW1020
Hurray! Congratulations on getting to Onederland! And hurray to feeling better after the tooth extraction.
I hope you are having fun in Atlanta today. It's a great city. I used to live in Huntsville, AL, and was in Atlanta twice a week, so reading that you were going there gave me some nice flashbacks. I just went and looked, and a friend from that class still has a great Thai restaurant, L'Thai, there. Yum!) Anyway, I hope you get to do some of the fun tourist-y things!
@davidji82
Great weigh-in! Congratulations!
@Katmary71
Awww! The delight is mutual! I was thrilled to see your name in MY notifications!
@bethanie0825
@gwamajtw91
Me too! I have a fitness gadget (Garmin instead of Fitbit) and think that getting reminded to get up and move is one of my favorite features.
@Firefly743
For what it's worth, I have been reading DH as "Dear Husband." Teresa will confirm, but I think that's it!
"Dead Husband," though, made me smile. It feels weirdly season-appropriate, as everyone in my neighborhood seems to be doing more Halloween decorating this year.
@miriammuhindi Wow! Great job fasting!
Thursday Check-in
🟢Food on plan weighed & logged
🟢Calories in the "Green"
🟢Workout: 45 min+/6 days-wk
🟢Over 10K steps (I went way over - yay!)
🟢Only the one planned snack, no trigger foods
NOTE: I went shopping yesterday and eyed a not-on-plan treat. And I knew I would check in here and thought about that, and thought "I'll pass for now." So I stayed on plan in the face of the not-on-plan vegan chocolate mint bar and escaped the store with just the things on my list!

BONUS: I started the day with a walk, listening to podcasts. This one was good. It has a few small practical suggestions, and avoids talking about any of them as a magic bullet that will work for everyone.

In case anyone else likes this kind of thing -- another podcast I glistened to this morning has me wanting to read a new book called Fiber Fueled. It's a book by Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, a gastroenterologist, on our gut microbiome. For now, I am listening to the author's longer interview on the Rich Roll podcast.

@buniphuphu- I like the idea of making your own McMuffins. Walmart has turkey sausage patties that are pretty good. A zap in the micro, a muffin in the toaster, melt the cheese and you're done!
@TeresaW1020 Have fun in Atlanta, glad you are feeling better.
Friends, I skipped yesterday for checking in and today there are 37 new posts! You've been busy! I feel like the energy has gone up a notch with all the new members. I like it!4 -

@itsmegina I am so glad that you are enjoying the group and feeling less alone with your struggles. We all have struggles and having a safe place to be open about them is so important for us all.
@Firefly743 HaHa!! DH could mean dead husband but in my case, it still means dear husband.It really was exhausting trying on all my clothes and then I washed up a bunch of winter stuff that I had stored and had to iron it all the next day. But my clothes look really good right now. I even organized my shoes!
@gharvey2753 The good thing about knowing your downfalls is that you now know what you need to turn them around.
@trooworld Glad to read that you are having a good “staycation!” You are doing great on your goals. What are you struggling with still that needs to be improved on or tweaked? I am still eating wayyy too fast.
@AustinRuadhain No, I didn’t do any touristy stuff. Just getting in some good retail therapy!
@Cornanda Yay for your weigh-in this week and for being down 5 pounds!!I agree that the energy in this place has gone up and what I love most is that everyone is happy to talk with each other so if some of us miss a day or so that is OK. We just jump back in when we can.
Hi everyone! I’m home and tired from our day out and about. Hubby and I got into our savings and decided to buy a recliner. I wanted one that looked like a chair and not a typical recliner. I found one I liked and then I found the most amazing fabric that works perfectly in my living room, so we special ordered it. The price in the store was higher than online but they price matched so that made us happy. Then I went to another store that had a credenza that I wanted for our entryway and it was $200 cheaper on Amazon with free delivery and the store not only priced matched, but they threw in the protection plan as well. So, score!!We had lunch today at Panera where I had a salad. Then later we went to Starbucks where I got a latte and a pumpkin scone. And it was worth every calorie!!

@gharvey2753 welcome back!
@davidji82 wow, great loss!!
@trooworld Hubby and I are doing a “staycation” later this month. Hope you are enjoying the “me” time. You sure are working your goals.
@AustinRuadhain thanks for podcast suggestion and book.
@Cornanda great weigh in!!!
Today has been a great day. We are blessed to have a great trail system where we live. Took my dad and we went and walked one of the trails today. I loved it!! Wrapped up the day by getting a new hair style!!! It feels good to be on track with food and exercise.
Hope everyone has an awesome Saturday!!!5 -
@TeresaW1020 Score on the furniture, that's awesome and it's even more exciting when you get a deal! Starbucks at this time of year, a pumpkin scone sounds pretty incredible. I'm a mocha frapp girl, I got it down to a cold brew with light pumpkin cream but I'm trying to stay strong this year on the no or low sugar front! I thought of you today, I assumed I'd need another root canal and I'm now minus a tooth. I still wish I'd gone for ice cream, that would make my sore mouth feel WAY better. If it still hurts tomorrow I just might!
@miriammuhindi Nice fast, do you usually do 12/12?
@adhmrh What a great day, fresh air and a new hairstyle!4 -

I’m so tired today but I realised I’ve had no refined sugar for almost 2 weeks, not smoked for 33 days and lost half of the weight I had gained in the first 3 weeks of quitting smoking within 1 week of joining this group 🥳 All these achievements are enough to keep me on track with my diet and exercise even if I am tired.4 -

😮😮😮 Holy smokes! Thank you for sharing that! It's definitely worth a celebration!
And YES -- it's great to stop and look at the big picture, to remind ourselves of how far we have come, to have the energy to get through low energy/down moments! 😁

And that trail hiking sounds great! I live in central Texas, and we love our trails here, too. 🍃

You are so smart to both build in a few treats and to make sure you don't go overboard and blow the week. (I say this as someone who has totally done "blow the whole week" sometimes!) 👍🏾👍🏾

🔧Unrelated Victory of the Day: My husband and I fixed our gas oven! The igniter had failed last Saturday. I baked something and turned the oven off. My husband came in an hour later, and the oven would not light. Stovetop still worked fine, so we were pretty sure it was something in the circuit that turns the oven on. He went digging on how ovens work, we talked about it, and decided to risk ordering the part that had likely failed ($28). It arrived and yesterday we fixed it! $28 instead of an expensive repairman or an even more expensive replacement!
🍕 My son was happy because he had been craving my homemade pizza all week. So I cleaned up after fixing the stove and switched into pizza making.
🥗 My dinner was a new chopped salad which I have been making and which I was craving!

🥧 Make a birthday apple pie for my husband. And since I have a teenager, I think I will make TWO pies! (I'm serious. I have never seen anyone eat the way a teenage boy eats.)
Get some organizing work done in our garage. It's a mountain to climb, but I want to start by doing a bit today while the pies bake.

@Firefly743 OK you aren’t happy. But you are down on the scale and that is something to celebrate. Now, what do you need to do this week to make a bigger dent on your scale?
@trooworld Girl, look at you!!I totally agree that your mediation and staying focused on the goals you have set for yourself is what is giving you such amazing results. Now, that holidays are coming, I encourage you to start right now taking steps on how you are going to balance all the foods that will be in your life with your desire to see the scale drop. That is what I’ve been working on today. And no, I’m not even trying to put my fork or spoon down between bites. I think I need a shock collar or something.
@AustinRuadhain Look at all those goals in green that you have accomplished. Now get to bed and get some sleep!! That is great that you fixed your gas oven! Can you come over and fix my dishwasher? Ten days before the repairman comes out to probably tell us we need a new one. Tell me about this chopped salad of yours? I love a good salad.Hubby told me it was fun to watch me work the salespeople at the stores. I did furniture sales for almost 5 years so I know the game pretty well.
@cherrymajoni Hey it’s great to have you back on the team!!Now let what happened to go and let’s focus on finishing this year strong! We still have 83 days left until January 1st and that is lots of time to turn it all around.
@emj90210 I am soooo amazed by how great you are doing!! NO refined sugar, no smoking, and losing weight! Yes, these are great motivations to keep you on track!!
@mss9675 and @TwistedSassette You have both had nice losses this week! Keep it up!
@Katmary71 Ohhhh I am sorry that you have had to lose a tooth too! I do recommend the ice-cream but only if it won’t cause you more harm than good. Feel better!
@adhmrh I was totally surprised that a pumpkin scone still existed in the afternoon. That never happens at my local Starbucks.That is lovely that you had a nice time with your dad and I bet you look wonderful with your new hairdo.
@miriammuhindi Sometimes those cheat days just aren’t worth are they? How did you do today? Were you able to get back on track?
Hello everyone! Today has been a relaxing day at home. I started my new workout program, which is called 80 Day Obsession. Most of the workouts are an hour long and I will have to use the modifier when I need to or even do a whole different exercise but I'm determined to finish all 80 days and hoping to see some real progress with my fitness. I made homemade beef stew for dinner and we had bread and wine. I drank too much wine and ate too much bread so now I feel a little icky. I told my hubby that I will either eat the food or drink the wine but I will not have both. It's just too much for my body right now. I now need a nap.
100-Day Challenge Goals: Day 18
1. Fast clean for 19+ hours, with 2 days at 23+ hours. Fasted 20 hours
2. Workout six days a week (either BOD program, treadmill, or deep cleaning). 60 minute full body core
3. Eat at least 90% on plan, which means mostly low carb with one or two days of high-carbs. NO, I had too much bread and wine!
4. Have quiet time with God through prayer and reading. Yes, I worked on my Bible study today.

Just checking in, it’s Sunday morning here. I’ve had my coffee and ridden 10 miles on my stationary bike for a group challenge that I’m in. Time for another coffee I think!

@Firefly743 - you know all those graphs of how people actually loose weight? It zig-zags a lot, even for the very disciplined ones ( they have hormones too and retain water like all of us). I’m relatively new to the forums, but the biggest thing I learned, is to never be angry with yourself, nor disappointed. Bad days happen, life gets in the way, just wipe the slate clean every night and start again next day.
But if you want visual encouragements, use a weight trend app, also measure yourself and keep track of the non-scale improvements ( more reps, more weights, walk faster or longer- than at the very start).
Sleep well and drink lots of water- sometimes the answer is that simple.
Best of luck!

@TeresaW1020 Dear Husband! OMG! How did I not think of that?! I was close though only off by one letter. But funny how one letter can make a huge difference!! And truth be told, DH was so lost on me since I've never had a dear husband (nor a dead one). But now I know. LOL
So yes, I had a not so great week, what will I do different? That is a great question! The 0.2 loss is tough considering the week before was a 4.6 pound loss - yet nothing was done differently. Maybe it was just because the week before was such a huge loss it was the week for my body to slow down. Work was insanely busy both weeks - food/tracking was good both weeks/steps were low both weeks/exercising was nonexistent both weeks. So I need to re-evaluate again and figure it out. I honestly don't know if it is a hormonal issue or not. (I had my uterus removed 8 years ago - but I still have my ovaries.) So it's times like these when I get a little frustrated...today, I took a little time to reset. I ate what I wanted, I didn't track (but also didn't go crazy).
It was a weird and rough day today. For work I had to take a urine drug test - dummy me I scheduled it for 8:45 in the morning. I drank 3 bottles of water before getting there. But I *barely* peed enough - the guy said it was questionable - he almost rejected my test. I'm not sure if it was the tears in my eyes that pushed him over the edge or what. Honestly, drug tests don't scare me, drugs aren't in my system, it's the lack of pee in my system! LOL
Then I had to go to Costco to pick up my meds - on the way back to the car someone backed into me. Actually me, not my car, my physical person. I'm fine, they weren't going fast, but they hit me just enough that I stumbled a few steps into the path of other cars. The guy didn't stop, quickly took off - don't know if he even knew he hit me. Whatever, I'm fine. But that's how my day went.
Later my son met a friend for lunch, and he was speeding on his way there. Got pulled over - this was his first time being pulled over. Oddly enough, he hands his license to the cop, the cop asked if he was my kid, my son said yes. The cop said he has known me for a loooong time and said he'd let him off with a written warning. (Which was VERY nice of him!) My son was afraid to tell me...because every time he leaves the house I say "Good bye, I love you, be careful, NO SPEEDING!!".
Tomorrow is a new day!I hope you guys are having an awesome weekend!!

100 days challenge, day 18, Oct 10:
- eat within calories ✅, 17/18
- 14,000 steps ✅, 16/18
My daughter got into a puzzle kick this summer and I was slightly bummed because as a kid I was always told how bad I was at it. Little by little I got sucked in, and today I probably stayed with her and actually found pieces, for more than 2h. It sure cleans your mind, maybe nowhere close to actual meditation, but still . And teenagers can be so funny when are distracted 😁5 -
OMG @Firefly743 what a scary thing to happen! I’m glad you’re ok. Some people should not be allowed to drive 😡
Also about your weigh in results - bear in mind that when you only weigh in once a week, your weight can vary by a couple of pounds each day so it could also be that you happened to be retaining water this week but not last week. I weigh myself daily so I can see these fluctuations, then I don’t freak out when my “official” weekly weigh in is up a little as I know what my “normal” weight is!4 -
@TwistedSassette
Thanks! I'm glad I'm ok too. I'm not entirely mad (yet), in disbelief still.
As far as my weight...I do weigh myself every day. So I definitely do watch it go up and down during the week. This week it was up and down each day - it's such a fun rollercoaster.I've actually made mental/emotional progress in not freaking out as much during the week with the fluctuations and just looking at the overall weekly progress.
I think my real issue is I like to know "why" with most things in life. If I can understand the why, then even if I don't like things, then it's better because I can at least understand it. But when I don't know why weight is going up, that frustrates me. You know? It's not like our bodies can just spit out an answer, much to my dismay. I try and be patient and stick with what I have been doing that works...but sometimes feelings still happen.
But at the end of the day, I still had a loss...and I'm not in a race...it doesn't all have to come off today, tomorrow or the next day. I just need to focus on one day at a time and things will happen the way they are supposed to. I have a check in with my doc in a couple of weeks and we will chat about my progress too. So I just need to be kind and patient with myself - that's often harder than anything else.4 -
@GabiV125
Thanks - you have some good points in there. Recently I have started to use Happy Scale so that I can see the weight trend - that is helping me more than I expected.
I also need to find better work/life balance - I think maybe that's part of what is kicking my butt right now.3 -
@adhmrh A new hair style! Sounds like fun!!! Glad you had such a great day yesterday! Love that you got out on the trails!!
@emj90210 Those are some awesome accomplishments!! Congrats!!!
@AustinRuadhain Great job fixing the oven!! And yes, it is absolutely insane how much teenage boys eat!!! You wouldn’t believe it unless you witness it yourself. Insane!!
@trooworld Amazing loss this week!!!! So how do you meditate? Do you use an app?4 -
I decided to try a new veggie today: buttercup squash. I had roasted buttercup squash with cinnamon apples alongside grilled chicken. It was good! Next time, I think I'm going to add a pinch of cayenne because I felt like it needed a tiny kick to it.
