@Firefly743 - you know all those graphs of how people actually loose weight? It zig-zags a lot, even for the very disciplined ones ( they have hormones too and retain water like all of us). I’m relatively new to the forums, but the biggest thing I learned, is to never be angry with yourself, nor disappointed. Bad days happen, life gets in the way, just wipe the slate clean every night and start again next day.
But if you want visual encouragements, use a weight trend app, also measure yourself and keep track of the non-scale improvements ( more reps, more weights, walk faster or longer- than at the very start).
Sleep well and drink lots of water- sometimes the answer is that simple.
Best of luck!

@TeresaW1020 Dear Husband! OMG! How did I not think of that?! I was close though only off by one letter. But funny how one letter can make a huge difference!! And truth be told, DH was so lost on me since I've never had a dear husband (nor a dead one). But now I know. LOL
So yes, I had a not so great week, what will I do different? That is a great question! The 0.2 loss is tough considering the week before was a 4.6 pound loss - yet nothing was done differently. Maybe it was just because the week before was such a huge loss it was the week for my body to slow down. Work was insanely busy both weeks - food/tracking was good both weeks/steps were low both weeks/exercising was nonexistent both weeks. So I need to re-evaluate again and figure it out. I honestly don't know if it is a hormonal issue or not. (I had my uterus removed 8 years ago - but I still have my ovaries.) So it's times like these when I get a little frustrated...today, I took a little time to reset. I ate what I wanted, I didn't track (but also didn't go crazy).
It was a weird and rough day today. For work I had to take a urine drug test - dummy me I scheduled it for 8:45 in the morning. I drank 3 bottles of water before getting there. But I *barely* peed enough - the guy said it was questionable - he almost rejected my test. I'm not sure if it was the tears in my eyes that pushed him over the edge or what. Honestly, drug tests don't scare me, drugs aren't in my system, it's the lack of pee in my system! LOL
Then I had to go to Costco to pick up my meds - on the way back to the car someone backed into me. Actually me, not my car, my physical person. I'm fine, they weren't going fast, but they hit me just enough that I stumbled a few steps into the path of other cars. The guy didn't stop, quickly took off - don't know if he even knew he hit me. Whatever, I'm fine. But that's how my day went.
Later my son met a friend for lunch, and he was speeding on his way there. Got pulled over - this was his first time being pulled over. Oddly enough, he hands his license to the cop, the cop asked if he was my kid, my son said yes. The cop said he has known me for a loooong time and said he'd let him off with a written warning. (Which was VERY nice of him!) My son was afraid to tell me...because every time he leaves the house I say "Good bye, I love you, be careful, NO SPEEDING!!".
Tomorrow is a new day! I hope you guys are having an awesome weekend!!5 -
100 days challenge, day 18, Oct 10:
- eat within calories ✅, 17/18
- 14,000 steps ✅, 16/18
My daughter got into a puzzle kick this summer and I was slightly bummed because as a kid I was always told how bad I was at it. Little by little I got sucked in, and today I probably stayed with her and actually found pieces, for more than 2h. It sure cleans your mind, maybe nowhere close to actual meditation, but still . And teenagers can be so funny when are distracted 😁5 -
OMG @Firefly743 what a scary thing to happen! I’m glad you’re ok. Some people should not be allowed to drive 😡
Also about your weigh in results - bear in mind that when you only weigh in once a week, your weight can vary by a couple of pounds each day so it could also be that you happened to be retaining water this week but not last week. I weigh myself daily so I can see these fluctuations, then I don’t freak out when my “official” weekly weigh in is up a little as I know what my “normal” weight is!4 -
@TwistedSassette
Thanks! I'm glad I'm ok too. I'm not entirely mad (yet), in disbelief still.
As far as my weight...I do weigh myself every day. So I definitely do watch it go up and down during the week. This week it was up and down each day - it's such a fun rollercoaster. I've actually made mental/emotional progress in not freaking out as much during the week with the fluctuations and just looking at the overall weekly progress.
I think my real issue is I like to know "why" with most things in life. If I can understand the why, then even if I don't like things, then it's better because I can at least understand it. But when I don't know why weight is going up, that frustrates me. You know? It's not like our bodies can just spit out an answer, much to my dismay. I try and be patient and stick with what I have been doing that works...but sometimes feelings still happen.
But at the end of the day, I still had a loss...and I'm not in a race...it doesn't all have to come off today, tomorrow or the next day. I just need to focus on one day at a time and things will happen the way they are supposed to. I have a check in with my doc in a couple of weeks and we will chat about my progress too. So I just need to be kind and patient with myself - that's often harder than anything else.4 -
@GabiV125
Thanks - you have some good points in there. Recently I have started to use Happy Scale so that I can see the weight trend - that is helping me more than I expected.
I also need to find better work/life balance - I think maybe that's part of what is kicking my butt right now.3 -
@adhmrh A new hair style! Sounds like fun!!! Glad you had such a great day yesterday! Love that you got out on the trails!!
@emj90210 Those are some awesome accomplishments!! Congrats!!!
@AustinRuadhain Great job fixing the oven!! And yes, it is absolutely insane how much teenage boys eat!!! You wouldn’t believe it unless you witness it yourself. Insane!!
@trooworld Amazing loss this week!!!! So how do you meditate? Do you use an app?4 -
I decided to try a new veggie today: buttercup squash. I had roasted buttercup squash with cinnamon apples alongside grilled chicken. It was good! Next time, I think I'm going to add a pinch of cayenne because I felt like it needed a tiny kick to it.

Week 1 weigh in Thursday (08Oct2020) 2 days late @broncobuddee
Previous weight:174.4
Current weight: 173.9
LTD MFP #2 61.1lbs
LTD overall 126.1 lbs
I am working on keeping myself focused while so much personal stuff is ongoing. I am working A LOT, my job hunt for a full-time position has been very hectic, my DIL has been in the hospital twice with me helping out and....I am not being a motivator at all for this wonderful group, let alone good or bad. Been serious MIA.
In the last couple of days of thought about all of this....I am not as focused as I need/want to be...not even close. Much more eff-it eating - calories are waaaaay up. Water is waaaaay down. Excuses, well, they are the MOST UP OF ALL.
I will check in tomorrow morning before I jump in the car for a drive, working on a moment by moment approach.6 -

🥗 My dinner was a new chopped salad which I have been making and which I was craving!
🥧 Make a birthday apple pie for my husband. And since I have a teenager, I think I will make TWO pies! (I'm serious. I have never seen anyone eat the way a teenage boy eats.)
@AustinRuadhain what is the new chopped salad........? Very curious because I like chopped salad the best and love to add lots of things, always want to see a new one! And yeah - was chatting in a (very social distanced) grocery line just yesterday about how much the teen boys eat, noting how the food bill goes down when they move out. It's almost unbelievable - until you have to keep going back to the store!3 -

@emj90210 awesome accomplishments, you have a lot to be proud of!
@TeresaW1020 Congratulations on starting a new exercise program, I hope it's a good fit and you really like it. Nothing wrong with modifying or having to do your own thing at times, you know best when to push it and when to switch it up. I actually resisted the ice cream, I felt way better when I woke up so I couldn't justify it! How's the healing going for you? The headache I've had the last couple months feels a bit better so it wasn't all allergies!2 -

CW 132.9lbs (60.3kg)
LTD 45.8lbs (20.8kg)
Lost - a little. Walked 11miles both Fri and Sat but ate large cookie dessert and big meal for family celebrations.
Eating less veg as I'm trying to eat through all my canned food. Still have tinned chick pea can that I've been trying to get through it this past week.
Ate too much chocolate on Tues evening coz of Zoom meeting. It's hard, like boredom and need energy to stay awake i gouged on chocolate. Can't drink tea/water instead as I need the toilet all the time which is hard in a Zoom meeting.
GOALS:
1. Eat through canned food only buying salad
2. Perhaps buy chicken and eat more protein
Have a good week ahead🥰

@firefly743 Haha, I love your description of not having enough urine, I always go to the bathroom before leaving the house and never think of that when getting labs. I used to bring a book in case I had to hang out to go more. It sounds like you drank enough water too! I hope you feel fine from being hit, that's pretty scary. Glad your son didn't get a ticket, that would've been the icing on the cake. It drives me nuts when the numbers don't make sense, I think dealing with human bodies makes it tougher because you can't control all the variables. I have a few different things I'm trying on myself and things that should make sense are rarely clear-cut. Don't know what to tell you, just commiserating that it's really annoying!
@buniphuphu Your meal looks awesome, I'll have to keep an eye out for buttercup!
@Hilogirl2018 I'm sorry your weight is up, regroup and come back at it swinging! When I'm struggling I focus on maintaining over going under to take some of the pressure off. Not sure if that would work for you but remember a number on the scale is just that, you're way more than it!
Way to go on the weight loss weigh ins everyone!2 -

TeresaW1020 wrote: »@Firefly743 OK you aren’t happy. But you are down on the scale and that is something to celebrate. Now, what do you need to do this week to make a bigger dent on your scale?
@trooworld Girl, look at you!! I totally agree that your mediation and staying focused on the goals you have set for yourself is what is giving you such amazing results. Now, that holidays are coming, I encourage you to start right now taking steps on how you are going to balance all the foods that will be in your life with your desire to see the scale drop. That is what I’ve been working on today. And no, I’m not even trying to put my fork or spoon down between bites. I think I need a shock collar or something.
@AustinRuadhain Look at all those goals in green that you have accomplished. Now get to bed and get some sleep!! That is great that you fixed your gas oven! Can you come over and fix my dishwasher? Ten days before the repairman comes out to probably tell us we need a new one. Tell me about this chopped salad of yours? I love a good salad. Hubby told me it was fun to watch me work the salespeople at the stores. I did furniture sales for almost 5 years so I know the game pretty well.
@cherrymajoni Hey it’s great to have you back on the team!! Now let what happened to go and let’s focus on finishing this year strong! We still have 83 days left until January 1st and that is lots of time to turn it all around.
@emj90210 I am soooo amazed by how great you are doing!! NO refined sugar, no smoking, and losing weight! Yes, these are great motivations to keep you on track!!
@mss9675 and @TwistedSassette You have both had nice losses this week! Keep it up!
@Katmary71 Ohhhh I am sorry that you have had to lose a tooth too! I do recommend the ice-cream but only if it won’t cause you more harm than good. Feel better!
@adhmrh I was totally surprised that a pumpkin scone still existed in the afternoon. That never happens at my local Starbucks. That is lovely that you had a nice time with your dad and I bet you look wonderful with your new hairdo.
@miriammuhindi Sometimes those cheat days just aren’t worth are they? How did you do today? Were you able to get back on track?
Hello everyone! Today has been a relaxing day at home. I started my new workout program, which is called 80 Day Obsession. Most of the workouts are an hour long and I will have to use the modifier when I need to or even do a whole different exercise but I'm determined to finish all 80 days and hoping to see some real progress with my fitness. I made homemade beef stew for dinner and we had bread and wine. I drank too much wine and ate too much bread so now I feel a little icky. I told my hubby that I will either eat the food or drink the wine but I will not have both. It's just too much for my body right now. I now need a nap.
100-Day Challenge Goals: Day 18
1. Fast clean for 19+ hours, with 2 days at 23+ hours. Fasted 20 hours
2. Workout six days a week (either BOD program, treadmill, or deep cleaning). 60 minute full body core
3. Eat at least 90% on plan, which means mostly low carb with one or two days of high-carbs. NO, I had too much bread and wine!
4. Have quiet time with God through prayer and reading. Yes, I worked on my Bible study today.
Thank you!

@TwistedSassette You are off to a great start this Sunday! I always like to get my workout done early but first I need my coffee.
@Firefly743 Ohhh my what a week you have had! I have always gotten so nervous taking a drug test and have no idea why. That was nice of the cop to let your son off with a warning and maybe now he will slow down and realize that next time he probably won’t get off and will have to pay the price. Now about your weight. I had forgotten until you reminded me that you had lost 4.6 lbs the week before. That is a huge number to lose in one week! So, I am not surprised at all that your body decided to chill out and just drop a little weight. And of course, you already know that it’s never going to be a downward ride but a roller-coaster where you will have to just relax and enjoy the ride. Just keep doing what you know works for you.
@GabiV125 That is wonderful that you got to hang out with your teenage daughter and have fun working a puzzle. Great job on sticking with your goals!
@buniphuphu You just reminded me that I want to put Butternut squash on my menu this week. I eat it in place of sweet potatoes.
@raleighgirl09 You have so much going on that I am just happy to read your post when you can get on the board. Don’t stress about being the super motivator that you are! Let us help motivate you.
@Hilogirl2018 I am so sorry that you are upset and discouraged with your weigh-in this week. My advice is to just forgive yourself and begin again. You got this!
@Katmary71 I am healing up just fine with only my jaw still being a little tender. Good for you for resisting the ice cream! And yes, my headache is gone now too!
@apple852hk Yayy on the loss!! Clearly, the chocolate didn’t hurt you, but I know that you want to watch how much you consume. Maybe only get a set amount when you start the Zoom call and don’t allow yourself to go get more. After the Zoom call, go drink a huge glass of water.3 -
@buniphuphu - I agree with what everyone said about your dinner, it looks wonderful, but I noticed something else. Your plate is the cutest thing!
I read so many times the advice to eat on a blue plate, to help suppress the appetite, but never thought how good it looks to have a beautiful blue design. I’m going to go get myself couple blue fancy plates, where even oatmeal looks luxurious!
Happy Sunday everyone and sorry for not being good and individual cheers 🎈1 -
@TeresaW1020 Oh good idea to start thinking about the holidays! I truly think the biggest problem I have around the holidays is the food that is brought into work and, because of COVID, no food is allowed to be brought in (what a blessing in disguise!). On Thanksgiving, I might hit a speedbump and have a big meal that day and the next day but that's it. We stopped with all the leftovers a couple of years ago. And Christmas, we usually make something like lasagna or enchiladas so it's more of a typical meal than a feast like Thanksgiving is. Choosing either the food or the wine sounds like a good strategy, I don't know which I would choose lol.
@Firefly743 That must have been stressful (the drug test and not having enough urine). And then getting hit on top of it! What a terrible person to take off. Geez! Oh my gosh, I'm glad you are okay. What a day you had! Thanks re: the loss. And I agree with the others as far as your loss goes, the scale is unpredictable. I always say it's a crapshoot. Hopefully your next weigh-in you will be down. How I meditate: I take my meditation cushion (picture below) out onto the walkway right outside of my condo and I sit on it and lean my back against my condo. I use an app called Headspace. It's not free, although they may have sample meditations. You can find meditations on YouTube that are free, though, plenty. Basically what I am doing is concentrating on my breath: counting my breath as I breathe in and out and if I have a thought I say to myself, "I'm thinking" and let it go and get back to counting my breath. The app lets me know when my 20 minutes is up. Sometimes I don't go for 20 minutes, sometimes it's only 15. When I first started out, I only meditated for 5 minutes at a time. I hope this helps!
@buniphuphu That looks really good.

Hi all. I just found out I "earned" 1 month of Headspace to give to a friend by completing 15 days in a row of meditating. So, @Firefly743 or anyone else, if you want a month of free Headspace to try, please let me know... I just need your email to send it to you!1

I haven't gotten through all of today's posts, I'm sorry, but my son just called me - yay! He's back from his ship (been out to sea for a month) and wants to link up (PS4s). Love you all, but I love him more
@TwistedSassette – the skin on the delicate was not thick at all. Rather enjoyable eating it because it was a nice contrast to the soft flesh.
@Katmary71 – I’d love to know your chili powder blend. I love spicy! I hope your mouth is feeling better.
@buniphuphu – I love your frequent trips around the pool! What a great way to stretch and take a moment to breathe while also getting in your steps! Yes, the squash was delicious! I have never grilled squash, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. You’ll have to let me know if your hubby finds it and gives it a go on the grill. How funny that you posted that delicious photo of the buttercup…because I just bought one for the first time a couple days ago! We are twinsies!
@TeresaW1020 – I’m glad your mouth is feeling better. So what do you and your hubby do when you visit Atlanta? I’m just wondering if it’s the same thing as us SW Michiganders that will drive over to Chicago for the day (it’s only 2 hours)…we just wander around the main drag and see what we happen to see. No actual destination in mind. And WOOT WOOT on ONEDERLAND!
@Firefly743 –You may also see DD (Dear Daughter), DS (Dear Son), etc. And regarding your loss yesterday…a loss is a loss is a loss! Celebrate that you lost and didn’t gain How horrible about getting hit. What a jerk! And hopefully your son has been scared straight. We all know the horrible repercussions of a speeding ticket. No thank you!
@Cornanda – Congrats on your awesome loss!
@adhmrh – I love walking trails, too!
@emj90210 – Super congrats on your non-smoking! And how fantastic you nipped the weight gain in the bud so quickly!
@cherrymajoni – I’m so glad you’re back! I hear ya on the exercise front. I’m still healing from my second ankle surgery, so trying to get in a decent walk everyday just has not been happening like it should. We can do this, though!
@AustinRuadhain – That is awesome that you fixed your oven! My oven hasn’t worked in years…evidently it’s the part that guides the flame to the gas and because my oven is so old, the part isn’t manufactured anymore. I ended up buying a fancy toaster oven. It works just fine…except it’s just slightly too small to fit a 9x13 pan in. Now you’ve inspired me to try finding that part again…maybe one is laying around an old repair shop somewhere…
@itsmegina – OMGoodness! I’m in the same boat. I’m working from home 4 days per week now (just go into the office on Tuesday mornings) and it is way too easy to pause my work and wander around the kitchen.
@trooworld – DANG! You are rockin’ that weight loss! Nice job!3 -

@vegan4lyfe2012 Yayyy on your loss this week! We went to one of the towns that is part of the greater Atlanta to do some shopping. I bought a Lazy Boy recliner that won’t be here until next March because of the fabric I picked out. And we also bought a new credenza for the front entryway that will be here this week. But yes, if go down to the main drag of Atlanta we usually end up browsing very overpriced shops and eating yummy but overpriced food.
Hi everyone! Today has been a good day. I worked out hard this morning and then went to church, which I always enjoy. Once home, I just chilled out today and worked my puzzle and listened to my newest podcast find. Low Carb MD Podcast. I started with episode one and I’m sure I will be binging it until I listen to them all.
100-Day Challenge Goals: Day 19
1. Fast clean for 19+ hours, with 2 days at 23+ hours. Fasted 21 hours
2. Workout six days a week (either BOD program, treadmill, or deep cleaning). 80 Day Obsession program-60 minute booty.
3. Eat at least 90% on plan, which means mostly low carb with one or two days of high-carbs. I did pretty well today but still had too much bread with dinner.
4. Have quiet time with God through prayer and reading. Had a lovely time at church today.
2 -
My goal was to fast for 16 hours each day with one 24 hour fast for the week. I only completed 4 16 hour days with no 24 hour fast but I was happy but skeptical (down 4# - my weight fluctuates so much) with the scale this morning. I’m committing to the same goal this week plus adding walking at least 3 days this week.
