No exercise, but otherwise ok.
Today I went to give blood, with my surgeon's blessing. However Red Cross sent me home, low hemoglobin... That may be connected to my feeling tired. I am showing some symptoms of anemia, probably need to get it checked out.7 -

Quick check in as still working (10pm boo). Big National call tomorrow. Lots of PowerPoint anxiety happening.
@mshawski
You know it will go great!
PowerPoint is definitely a picky little stressor & time sync. I love presenting, but no longer do because of PP (and the crazy high expectations for perfectly synergistic visuals)!
I’ll be thinking of you!

The DOG is my beloved 11 year old border collie named Chica.
Here she is with Rose. I took the photo while Chica looked up at me with her usual “desperate for love” expression.

@MadisonMolly2017 PowerPoint is a blessing and a curse! Before the pandemic, I gave up PP and created printed workbooks for my presentations. Attendees could easily write in the workbook and then share them with others.
Covid shut down all of my presenting.3 -

I’ve been struggling with myself. I’ve been taunting myself with negative thoughts: I need to change my lifestyle, I don’t want to always have to measure and count, and get on the scale every morning, and limit what I eat, and exercise even when I don’t feel like it, and think about my weight every single day. What a drag, right. I’ve been waiting for something to ‘happen’ to trigger a change in all the things I think I should be doing different, or don’t what to have to do. But wait a minute… this IS MY LIFESTYLE! The fact of the matter is, this is the only way I will keep myself healthy and feeling good whether I’m losing weight or not. I used to tell my kids: Good food, good movement and good sleep are what you need to keep healthy. And it’s exactly what I’ve been doing all along as I’ve been ‘struggling with my weight’. My lifestyle of weighing daily, measuring and logging my intake, daily exercise, trying to keep myself in control is the lifestyle that is best for me. I'm doing ok. it. I know I don't have to change my lifestyle, I just have to come to terms with and be happy where I am. I'm working at it.
So for today, I’m grateful for what my body (and mind) can do, that I have options and opportunities, and am able to do what will keep me healthy.
Have a peaceful day, my friends ☮️

@Hulya_79 Is there anyway I/we can help?
Ignore if not applicable:
It took me awhile to build the smaller habits to be able to meet the UAC goals.
I recommend taking a gentle & caring approach as you do so.
I began with tracking.
Which led to success with calories. (Remember YOU set the calorie goal - I set mine pretty high & was willing to lose more slowly over a longer period of time in order to be more comfortable.)
I began walking a short distance, then did it twice a day. And then lengthened distances. Then collapsed it to one long walk.
Sometimes breaking things down & giving ourselves The Gift of Time makes all the difference.5 -

Hey @MizSpiffy!
What an honest & insightful post!
I hear you. I HEAR YOU! I feel ALL those feelings at times - especially if I’m not sleeping enough.
Learning that Harvard states that obesity is a “chronic, relapsing disease” somehow helped me. Perhaps deep acceptance. Perhaps not a personal failure.
And then I make analogies to folks who suffer from anorexia or smoking or drug/alcohol or gambling...
It’s easier for me to say (about them) just eat more/exercise less or stop going to the casino, etc. in effect, just take the healthy actions.
So then I tell myself. Just do what it takes to take the healthy actions yourself. We are not alone. We are NOT alone.
I call them my job. I make them into habits so they take less attention. I constantly assess whether what I’m doing is necessary, efficient, or if there is a better way. Over time, it’s taking much less emotional energy!
At 5.4 years...
10K daily steps happens every day & I look forward usually & always enjoy it once I’m out the door. I’ve developed 10 creative ways to vary my experience & make it as fun as possible. Took time, but totally worth it.
🌀All labs/health excellent. Ability to walk/hike 4 hrs in steep hills & not be sore. And able to walk 10K every day afterwards! I focus on these latter three!
Tracking..my safety net. It’s automatic. I want the data. I want to figure out what my body needs to maintain. I have macros/micros I have to track to keep my labs/health excellent. I realize that 50 extra calories a day will add 5.2 lbs a year. So my easy to use tracking app insures my success. As does weighing daily & looking at monthly averages (in case the calorie values I used were of by 5-10) my weight averages will “catch the creep.”
🌀I focus on how I feel when I have a doctor’s appointment. Not nervous, not embarrassed. If I have a health issue in the future, I KNOW I’ve done all I can. I find great joy in being 10lb+ under 24.9 BMI. Being anywhere under that number is all my doctors care about. Being at vastly lower risk for COVID, heart disease, diabetes, etc. than I was for my adult life is a HUGE benefit. Not to mention looking better
I hear you. I have the same feelings sometimes. And I do what you did. I recognize what we are doing IS creating our best selves. And is the ultimate in Self-Care.
And has some Really Important Benefits!!!
We are determined & healthy!
💕
Maddie

September 14, 2020 – 153.0April has arrived and I am sitting here reflecting back on this month. It is the first month since September that I have closed the month with an “up”. That said, an up had to come at some point since at some point one is no longer trying/needing to lose weight, and I had passed my original goal back in January, I believe. The up on its own would be fine, but the habits, or lack thereof, that crept into my March are the concern. So, for the month of April, I will be focusing on returning to preplanning/pre-tracking as much as is possible and to not just thrown in the day it does not go as planned. I know that I know how to re-group and I need to make sure I find the time and energy for that. I want to up my cardio. Yes, I am “group walking” every day which burns calories, but honestly, I could walk at that pace for hours and hours without effort. I need to push myself, here and there, again. I will also be trying to maintain the social aspect of the group walks as well, so juggling all those time commitments will take a little focus. Lastly, I need to return to adding back exercises. I have not planked in a month, and rarely done exercises other than walking, running, or biking. So I need to figure out how to include bodyweight or dumbbell workouts. Here’s to April.April History

*** Sitting here as I write this, I have to wonder if posting my thoughts here this morning helped me to frame and get through the day. This morning, I did actually expect today to be a pass day, despite the slight optimism I expressed in my post. Ten minutes later, I decided to track a tentative day – carrot cake, stuffed shells and all. When I got done, I saw that even with every food included I could meet my calorie goals for the day. Portion control was the key. The plan was 90% accurate and the other 10% was adjusted on the fly. When I added something, I took something else away (sorry salad :P ). I enjoyed Easter with no pass today. The success feels good!

*** Had an interesting moment today that I hope will help me to understand the benefit of what was accomplished these 6 months. Today, I got home from a short grocery shopping including two bottles of wine to bring to friends on Sunday. I hate using the elevator at the building so I take the two flights to our condo. I carried all the groceries at once, from the car, through the parking and up the two flights. Not hard, but I could feel the difference. As an experiment, I walked directly to the scale when I got in our unit to see how high a combined weight I now was. I was still almost 9 lbs less that what I weighed in September, and almost 24 lbs less than my high in 2001. Hopefully experiments like this will help me keep focus, and keep my maintenance going. Yo-yo-ing has been my tendancy.
