My name is Matt and I live in Fort Wayne Indiana, @gak71 and I were in another group that started in January and was a 3-month challenge, the group has kind of died out & I saw him post about this group and decided to join. I am divorced and have an 18-year-old and soon-to-be 16-year old that stay with me every other week. Both very active in sports, this time of year is softball and baseball. So that means 5- 6 days of games every week right now. 4-5 days at night after school then Saturday morning early & early afternoon games. So meal planning becomes a challenge for me or if I am having a bad week hit the concession stands that always have healthy food choices.... not. Add to it, I have an hour commute to work each way. So now that I have my normal excuses/crutches out of the way; I am trying to stay physically active and when I have the time and energy on Sundays plan meals and prepare daily snacks for the week.
Good to “see” you again @ob1msu, you’ll definitely enjoy this group.
My youngest turned 16 in February and his driving has helped my weight loss tremendously! Between school, school baseball, and travel baseball, I found it very difficult to stay on track with so many practices and so much time spent in the car! It’s nice getting some of those hours back especially when you can spend them on your own well being!3 -
Happy May! 🌸🌼🌷
My name is Kristi, I'm 38 and I live in Washington state in the US. I'm married and have 3 kids (11, 10 and 6). I work part-time as a therapist at a special ed preschool. I have been with this group for 17 months. I have been working on weight loss for over 2 years now with a top weight of 255 lbs. I had lost 40 lbs but got stuck. I have been experimenting and took a 2 month diet break. I'm down about 30 lbs now and spent the last month getting back on track. My exercise has moved in the right direction and I am building up to my pre break work out pace. I'm still having inconsistent calorie days and incomplete logging days. This month I would like to get those issues fine tuned and start dropping pounds. My weight fluctuated a lot last month, like 7 lbs from high to low. I definitely don't want to see it do that this month!4 -
So, I am sorry not to have kept up very well with the step and exercise stuff. The one thing I can do is tell you about April Week 4
The three amazing movers and steppers for Week 4 are -

Well done!! Your commitment is fabulous.
For the new folks among us - if you like to track steps and/or exercise, we have a sub-team for that! Post your daily step goal if you have one, and let us know if you want to be part of this. I'm back in the game this month, so watch out! All you do is post you steps for the day and if you also do other intentional exercise, post the number of minutes of exactly what kind of exercise. We then convert that into an equivalent number of steps so that everything compares. Here is the chart I roughly draw on - some of the equivalents are a bit high, I find, but it gives a generally good idea of how it works -
https://www.arhs-nc.org/live-healthy/data/StepConversionChart.pdf
Be sure to include the intensity for things like bicycling or running (speed is the easiest) but post the number of minutes, not the total distance. Everything like Pilates, weight training, etc. just the minutes is fine. Let's get this back on track! I promise to be more vigilant until Michele can get back at it3 -

Great job on the green guys!
You don't need to apologise @jugar, you do so much
I'm worn out. We did a 9.3 mile walk this morning (longer than I'd planned) and didn't really stop other than to eat a pain au chocolat each when we bought a drink 6 miles in. If I'd realised how far we'd be going, I would've taken a drink from home! I ended up having a 3 hour nap this afternoon because I needed it.
Yesterday we got the tree and pot for the front garden which is looking great. We are still topping up the slate as we go, and I hope to finish that this week. Then we need to tackle the weeds on the drive which is probably going to be near impossible; I don't know if everybody else gets dandylions, but the roots go very deep and are extremely strong. After that, we're going to drop a tonne or two of limestone chippings on it.
The weather forecast for this week is rainy, so we should be able to pick up some of the tasks in the house and not feel like we'd rather be in the garden. I've not started on the garage yet; I need OH to help me as I'm expecting there to be spiders when we move the existing shelving to put the new section in. Plus, you know what? He's the one who did a rubbish job of putting a dust sheet up and got everything dusty so he can bloomin' well help clean it.
Eating is going well, hoping for a good weigh in tomorrow6 -

Happy May everyone! My name is Stephanie, I am married with 3 kids and live in Luxembourg. This month I’m working to sleep 7 hours each night and keep my carbs less than 100g daily. I haven’t been able to stay consistent for the past few months so I want to change that.
I like to run, hike and bike. This month I might finally get to play tennis! Fingers crossed.5 -

@Steph1498
Thanks for the steps! You outdid yourself - 57,099 in week 4 and 62,967 in week 5! WTG
I'll set up the list for this month for everyone who wants to have their feet to the fire in order to get them out on the road. If you want to join in let me know. If you were on the step team and want to leave - let me know that too! I'm back in there this month - my healing is finally over, the weather is offering no excuses, so I'll be counting both steps and exercise this month.
Tally ho!5 -
Hi WaistAways,
I'm Courtney from Val-des-Monts, Québec Canada and I've been with the group since August when I turned 40 and realized that with Covid and day-drinking Sangria to ease the stress, I had ballooned back up to close to my highest weight. I've been yo-yo-ing since my early 20s and with the help of this group I have made it back to my pre-marriage weight and actually fit back into my wedding dress a couple of weeks ago.
My initial goal was to get to 190 because that's where I was comfortable a decade ago when I was seriously into Crossfit but I think I probably need to readjust that with age and changes in muscle mass to 175. I've just broken into onderland and haven't maintained my motivation to keep the scale moving south. Possibly because I'm happy with how my clothes currently fit and my self esteem rising with that, but also because of injuries from some home reno mishaps that have slowed down my workout schedule.
I started my own 'habit tracker' where I coloured in boxes when I met my goals and rewarded myself with $5 a week towards a random purchase. I earned enough to buy a new bathing suit I wanted. I need to find a new reward to help jump start that motivation again.
I'm 5lbs from my first goal. I never thought I'd actually get here. Now isn't the time to throw it away!
Welcome to the new members, hopefully you love this group and reap the benefits like I have. I totally credit the friends I have made here with my 50lb loss.6 -

Hi everyone. My name is JOANNE. I am 46 years old. I live in Châteauguay, Québec. Super excited to be in this group. In the few short days that I joined, I have been more mindful of my habits. Part of my reason to lose weight is my T2 diabetes diagnosis in Dec 2019. Since then, I have made progress in my weight. My heaviest weight has been 153 lbs. I struggle with late night eating. These past couple of nights, I have noticed that stretching, rebounding or walking distracts me from these cravings.
This is a huge lifestyle adjustment for me. I had a very high metabolism until I turned 40. This has laid a foundation of bad habits that are further compounded by personal stresses. On the other hand, I want to be self accepting. As such, you will find my profile pic to reveal where I am at in this challenge
My goal are to:
1) Exercise regularly and mindfully, minimum 30 minutes
2) Eat a hearty, healthy salad prior to any carbs or meats
3) Aim for 9000 steps/day. Today, I got in 6000

Looking forward to connecting with everyone in this challenge. Let's inspire each other!7 -
@jugar Can you answer a question for me please? Does The Balanced Life membership have reformer videos in their video library? I got my reformer out today 🤗 It's been parked in the closet for a while. I'm trying to add more variety to my work outs and get rid of my cranky hip.
Thanks for all your hard work on our spreadsheets and other tracking forms. I'm sure it is time consuming. You are so appreciated 💛4 -

Water retention got me!
Have found some mojo this morning and put the last coat of primer on the bathroom. Need to have it finished by the end of the month when we - hopefully - have house guests again. It'd be done sooner except I want to strip all the sealent and that takes forever.5 -

A third member from Québec! Maybe we'll all have to meet up someday when things get safe again. We have 3 Albertans as well, although one may have left us due to family health difficulties. I'm always game to meet up for hiking, so let me know if that is something you enjoy! We started out at around the same top weight and similar struggles, so it's a good bet we'd have a lot to complain about together In any case, you're getting to it younger than I did - good for you!
In your weight posting, I don't see CW (current) for yesterday - which was your weigh-in day. I know it is weird to have your week 1 weigh-in on the first day of your arrival on the team, but once you are here for more time, the final week of the month before becomes your starting weight and it all works out fine. So if you want to revise your SW to whatever it was (even a guess) on Sunday April 25, then confirm for me what your weight was yesterday, that would be great. Your highest weight ever (original starting weight) was 153, I assume.conleywoods wrote: »@jugar Can you answer a question for me please? Oh, the cranky hip. I have found what i hope will help mine on gmb.io (my fave site for articles on solving aches, pains, limitations, etc.) and I am actually doing it every day. Ouch, but yay? Balanced Life does not have any reformer videos, but if you go on their facebook group and ask, Robin Long will certainly know where you can get some good ones, or maybe she has some of her own somewhere (youtube?).
Thanks for the thanks - at least retirement is good for having time for stuff like this! I enjoy it and it keeps me maintaining. It also keeps me discovering new stuff. I just started a new experiment for the month of May. Instead of trying to do one Pilates workout and then whatever cardio I feel like (walking or biking, usually), I decided it was time to up my game a bit. I have made no progress in a while, and even though keeping what I have is great, I want to improve mobility in certain areas, straighten out said wonky hip, get stronger, etc. My comfy little routine was not going to do that. So for this month, I have added in a very short pre-breakfast routine, keep the Pilates, and do a GMB program called Elements. Then also whatever enjoyable cardio happens. I like having 4 physical events throughout the day. So far it is a great honeymoon! Three days!4 -
Who's due?
Sunday:
@ob1msu - I know you are new, but same as for Joanne, please confirm what was yesterday and approx. what was the 25th if possible.
@renewal_2021 - just confirm so that I have it right - CW from yesterday, PW from LAST Sunday the 25th

Hallo everyone! ♥️
I'm Ellie, 43, from Wales UK. I live on borders of Herefordshire and Powys so not far from You @YinxFed 😁 I am married and mum to three teenage boys. I don't need Google - my children know everything! 🙈😁
I have been with this group what feels like forever! Always up and down with my weight. In the last couple of weeks something clicked and I'm on downward phase ☺️
Or though I must say this weekend was a bit crazy! 🙈 My family and I went on day out in our motorhome to the seaside. It was beautiful day yesterday and I gave in to McDonald's! 😍 I honestly haven't eaten MCD since last year in the summer! 🤣 I missed it, got it out of my system and now I'm good for another year 😁
Also today is a big day for me .... very scary, too 🥺
If you remember, last year I took time off to start my business. Nothing came out of it and I thought oh well ....
But in the last few weeks I went back to the idea. My husband and I own a motorhome. We always need some parts for it. So I opened trade account with one of the companies and now my business is online selling camping equipment. I have a website and eBay shop. And today I registered my business with government - so it feels very official! I also have a bookkeeper 😁😀🥳
I'm happy and excited, but so very scared, too! I already am employed full time but this business feels like my fourth baby 🥰
But tomorrow back to the healthy lifestyle for me 😁 enough celebrations and back to being healthy!
Hallo new team mates! You'll be happy here 🥰 this group has the most motivational members on the internet ♥️😁5 -
I was able to workout today for the first time since injuring my hand! The hip was only a minor discomfort as well so that's really exciting for me. It's amazing just how quickly you can lose core strength and balance though! I was tipping all over the place.
I think I have found my motivator though. We have a stand-up paddleboard and I'm a total beginner. Last summer I was out in the middle of our bay in the lake, lost my balance and fell off. #1, I didn't have the core stability to recover my balance quickly enough to prevent making a splash, and #2, I didn't have the strength to pull myself back up onto the board. I had to tow it back to shore in order to climb back on. My goal is to find targeted core, stability, and upper body workouts so that by the time the water warms up enough to swim, I'll be ready to tackle that paddleboard and win! I tried a Caroline Girvan ab workout today and I'll try to find some more to mix in.
Excited!! (for exercise - this is so new for me!)4 -
Is anyone else having trouble completing their diaries on MFP? On my tablet and my mobile, I keep getting "Alert: There was a problem sending your request to the server. Please visit the main website or try again later". And when I try to complete my diary on the website version of MFP, I get "Processing..." for the longest time. And nothing happens!
Is anyone else getting this?2 -

I have not seen that, but I know they have problems from time to time. I did get one weird message a couple of days ago, but it went away and did not come back. You have to speak sternly, point your finger, scrunch your eyebrows together and say NO. BAD MFP. Then maybe it will behave!3 -
@jugar Hi! Yes, part of my interest in this group were fellow Canadians! My SW is correct 143. My CW is 142. My heaviest ever is 153. Yes, when the pandemic dies down it would be neat to have a hike.
Thanks for clarifying how to update.
MFP says that I have logged in 7 days in a row. 66 days to firm a habit. 59 days to go! I noticed how IF has dysregulated me. I didn't eat all day and just ate crap. I am still under my calorie goal, though.5 -
Hello all and welcome to the new members - here's the accountability you've been looking for. That's what I signed on for Jan 2020 and I'm still here - great support team and teammates. Top weight was about 195 and did great for the first 8 months or so, then tried to 'maintain' and experienced a lot of yo yo-ing with the same 10 pounds - I think I've broke that yo yo now and looking to have a great stretch to get me to my goal of 140. My name is Sylvia,52, and live just south of Boston, living with and caring for my elderly parents. One source of recent stress was losing our 2 only caregiving help for my dad - a meeting set up for this Wednesday with the local visiting nurses group should help get us in the right direction. I'm quite active, despite my office job, but I don't count on the exercise for the weight loss, it's watching the intake that has worked best for me.
Working from home is not helpful and I'm not proud of my intake today...tomorrow will be much better - will prelog before I turn out my light!4 -
Happy May, everyone and welcome!
My name is Evelyn and I live in Vermont. My OH and I have 3 cats and my younger 35-yr-old daughter moved home at the beginning of the pandemic. She often times goes to visit her 38-yr-old sister in northern Vermont, which is when we go a little nutso food-wise. Next Tuesday, Sarah James (my spouse) will be leaving for Wyoming to work as a cook for Vail Industries (which owns ski resorts in Vermont as well as in the West). It's a great opportunity for them to learn new things and reconnect to their matriarchal roots. The job goes from May 19-Sept 30. Needless to say, I'll have a lot more motivation to feed myself more appropriate portions (I'm 5'2" compared to OH 6'2"!).
For most of my adult life, I've seen myself as heavy. In reality, my weight didn't yo-yo much at all until AFTER having my 2 daughters! I trust that as I become more in tune with what my body requires at this age (63), I'll slowly embrace my form, whether or not it's ever as wee as my big sister @jugar (who is TINY!). My strength has decreased during this past year and, if I'm ever going to be able to get back to performing massages, I need to build it back up. I intend to apply to a cooking/baking job in a local Farm Stand so I can build it up while I work.
I weigh in on Wednesdays and hope to master this bloody new scale so it'll accurately reflect my new health regimen.
@jugar, please put me back on the stepping team. My goal is for 8,000/day. I'll also try to add exercises as well.
Onwards and upwards!
I had my second vaccine today (Moderna), and my arm is decidedly more sore than the first. I plan to keep up my fluids and sleep a lot tomorrow. I'll try to check in, though.
Nigh night!5 -

Thanks for the continued (re)introductions. Even for those who have been around for a long time, things change and it is good to catch up.
@ob1msu go go go! Great beginning. Now just see if you can keep up with Gary and Sam @gak71 and @happimess01 We're going to enjoy watching this.
My daughter in Alberta just found out that someone on a course with her last week tested positive, so she has been ordered (she's in the Army, so it is really orders!) to stay home and see no people for the moment. I think we'll be on the phone a lot while she is bored! At least she has her horse to play with, and plenty of wide open spaces with no people to walk around in, but she will be missing work and her buddies there. Hopefully it won't last long.
Hope everyone has had a great Monday and has thought up fun stuff to talk about tomorrow. It's talking Tuesday, so let's go!3 -
Happy Monday!
Today has been good for calories. Today is my son's official birthday so we didn't have the healthiest dinner followed by ice cream and hot fudge. On the plus side, portions were good and I am easily under calories. @YinxFed I can't post my diary either and get the exact same alert.
I was able to squeeze in a fun lunch time walk with a friend. We got to catch up on each other's workouts and our shared dislike of HIIT workouts! Ha😆 But mostly we just can't wait for school to be out for summer. It's been a long year!
Tonight I did a quick 20 minute pilates reformer workout after the kids went to bed. Now I'm relaxing on the couch with my coffee ☕ 😌
Have a great night!6
