If the CDC says boosters are a good idea, I’d get one for sure.

Evening! I keep forgetting to check in as I don't do anything worth reporting. I'm ready to get a booster shot with the reports of the escalation of the Delta variant infection. I read that Hawaii got 600+ new cases of it either yesterday or the day before.

DH read that you have to wait 5 months after your last shot. I haven't checked him on that. But I'm definitely on board!

I'm starting to lose patience with my fellow countrymen who are too selfish to wear masks or get vaccinated. The arguments are just ludicrous.

I live .in an area in which many anti-vaccine people live. They either don't trust the vaccine because of the short time in developing it, or the belief that it is just another cold that developed into pneumonia, or it is a form of government control.

When it appeared that things might get out of control again, I did take off on a driving trip of WV, VA and MD.

I’ve started wearing masks again when I leave home. I’m still getting together with friends in their homes, but only because I have a lot of trust that everyone is being equally cautious. One of our friends is severely immunocrompromised, and we all know that he would probably not survive the illness so we all have agreed to take every precaution to avoid infecting him or his wife, who is his caregiver. All of us are vaccinated and I’m sure all of us will line up for a booster shot if it’s recommended.

I’m happy to report that in the past month I have lost 3 pounds. It isn’t coming off fast, but I am losing, so I’m happy about that.

When I-went to my book group potluck, all of us were fully vaccinated. We didn’t mask up. One person was missing from the gathering and when we asked about her, the hostess said Ann wasn’t vaccinated. As I recall, the invitation specifically asked us to be fully vaccinated if we were coming. I don’t know if Ann had a medical reason for not vaccinating or is she’s anti vaccine? She missed a good time. Pam, 3 pounds is great. It’s not speed that counts. It’s the ultimate results.

Better than I did last month.

It's going to be SO hard to reinstate masks and lockdowns when the inevitable variant comes that the vaccination can't handle. Inevitable because not enough people are vaccinated.
Hopefully the technology will permit a new vaccination to be developed just as quickly but still.....

And stupid Ron Johnson thinks COVID isn't deadly enough for a vaccine mandate. Geesh! Almost 3/4 of a million deaths already and we're not nearly done.

Lindsay Graham tested positive for Covid today. He said he thought he was coming down with the flu. Don’t know why he’d think that since it’s not flu season. He saying he’d probably be sicker if he hadn’t gotten vaccinated. Maybe some of his supporters will reconsider vaccinations.

What's really ironic is that the Republican idiots touting the anti-vax stuff are killing off their own voters. Talk about self-defeating.

When a vaccinated volunteer drops something off and I go out to see them we aren't wearing masks any more. We do keep our distance. When we all had lunch of course we weren't masked. As long as everyone understands this is all probably not going to continue I think we're probably good for now. I still wear a mask everywhere else.

A new Axios-Ipsos poll finds: “The vaccinated said their top five targets of blame [for rising covid-19 cases] are the unvaccinated (79%), Trump (36%), conservative media (33%), people from other countries traveling to the U.S. (30%) and Americans traveling internationally (25%).” Well, they have got that right. It is unvaccinated people who have become petri dishes for the delta variant.

The unvaccinated would like to blame anyone but themselves. The poll reports: “The unvaccinated cited as their top five targets of blame people from other countries traveling to the U.S. (37%), mainstream media (27%), Americans traveling internationally (23%), Biden (21%) and the unvaccinated (10%).” Aside from the 10 percent who figured out that they are the problem, the other scapegoats are either trivial factors or absurd (the mainstream media is responsible for the delta variant?). The answers suggest we are dealing with oppositional behavior and cult-like thinking not easily displaced by reason and common sense.

How true. The unvaccinated don’t seem to take responsibility until they end up in the ICU or until they have a family member die. Ron DeSantos is picking up where Trump left off in the blame game. He says it’s illegal aliens bringing it in and refuses to let cities or school require a mask mandate. Of course he has presidential aspirations and is a clone of Trump.

The governor of my state also is following that same pattern of accusing illegal immigrants of bringing in the virus, refusing to allow mask mandates, and I believe he also has aspirations of running for President. He is up for re-election as governor next year and has already amassed a huge war chest of money for his campaign. I’m afraid he might be unbeatable at this point, as he is very popular with the tRumpers that seem to be in power all throughout the state.

My diet did not fare very well last night. Our friends who recently moved into a new home invited our group of friends over for dinner. It was a Mexican themed night, not much of which was diet friendly. Everything was delicious and though I tried to exercise portion control, my weight was up this morning. I believe at least some of that is due to sodium so I’ll do my best to flush it out today by drinking lots of water.

I need to do some housecleaning today and get my guest room ready for my niece and her husband. They are flying in tomorrow from New Jersey and will spend 1 night with us before her family drives in to picked them up Saturday morning. They wanted to squeeze in a trip before she goes back to work on the Broadway show “The Lion King”, which is gearing up to reopen soon.

Pam - I'm guessing your Mexican food is a little closer to authentic than anything I've ever been exposed to.

Today's word of the day is "apotheosis", definition "quintessence". Somehow that just amused me. (I'm easily amused these days).

I can tell I'm getting a little short tempered. People have been ignoring my emails all week, forcing me to call to follow-up. Other people have been saying "sure I'll do that but call to remind me". (Write yourself a note daggone it. LOL!)

Too many Republicans are taking covid-19’s side in the fight against the pandemic

What a great way to put it!

This is disappointing (but not surprising):

Many companies that recently announced vaccine requirements have workforces or customer bases that already have high vaccination rates, judging from available statistics on vaccination by income, education, geography and other demographics. In many cases, firms first surveyed their workers or customers about their vaccination status, and only after confirming that almost everyone who’d be affected was already vaccinated did they require vaccination.

LOL! I’m sure that’s true, but there is wide diversity in Mexican food. The kind DH grew up on in El Paso is different from what I enjoyed living farther from the border. New Mexico has its own style, as does California. And probably most of what we consider to be Mexican food is very different from what you’d get in various parts of Mexico. I think I’ve gotten used to a hybridized form of Mexican food that satisfies my taste buds and is acceptable to DH. I never enjoyed eating Mexican food when we visited his family in El Paso because to me everything tasted like it had been fried in old grease. DH says he thought that was how it was supposed to taste.

The one area where we both agree is that we like the flavor of Hatch green chili peppers. Hatch, New Mexico is an area that is famous for the chili peppers that is the main crop grown there. They used to be hard to get here, but in recent years many of the grocery stores bring them in by the truckloads and set up big roasters outside their stores. The peppers are roasted so that the tough outer skin can be easily peeled off. I usually buy a big box of them and bring them home. I separate them and put about 4-5 per ziploc bag, then freeze them to use throughout the year. It’s about time to restock now, in fact.

I think I’m ready for my niece’s visit. I got the guest room and bath ready yesterday. I need to declutter a bit downstairs and I think I will make a vegan lemon loaf for a dessert for tonight. Yesterday I also made a homemade blueberry syrup to go with the vegan pancakes I’m making for breakfast tomorrow.

As for their “reminder”, tell them the email was the reminder. You won’t be calling with a second reminder That’s what post it’s are for. This is one of those tasks you say no too.
