@Steph1498- Salmon mostly, I usually place Salmon and asparagus sprinkled with some lemon juice and in a parchment/foil pouch in oven for a few minutes. Salmon doesn't take long to cooked. I only use Salmon this way or in a salad. Some times tuna in salads, but not very often. I don't usually do pork it's rare if I do.3

Brad and I did the Legacy Trail again from Canmore to Banff. About a month had gone by since we last did it. Three things went better than the last time - 1) no rest the way there (the harder way), 2) conquered the hardest hill that I previously didn't make it all the way up and 3) beat my time both ways.
Fun to do something again that was measurable and see some improvement.
You guys are fabulous!2 -

I wish I had a Garmin! Maybe watching the sole Canadian competitor in the Eventing (equestrian event kind of like triathlon) would have recorded as 3 days worth of 20 flights of stairs each!KellyBgetsfit wrote: »PW 150.6

Work is keeping me busy so I am sticking to my daytime meal plan...but not my dinner. I had mac and cheese last night!!! I am getting in decent steps because I setting up my classroom. So far, Monday was my only formal workout, but I did 10 minutes of legs yesterday and I will do 10 min of core today.
And here you are under 150. Mac and Cheese and all! Go go go!ashleycarole86 wrote: »Across eight steppers, we recorded 2,285,092 steps for the month of July! This is the equivalent of 1,082 miles, which means together we travelled the distance from New York, NY all the way down to Orlando, FL.
So it was quite a Wednesday. I don't need to get on the exercise bike tonight to make up for low step count for sure! We are draining our pond in preparation for having it re-dredged, so all the cattails and other vegetation from around it had to be cut now that the water is low. And then loaded on the truck and unloaded at the village composting site. Phew! Of course, today had to the the hottest one in the last 10 or so... On top of that, the garden is in full overload mode - so many gorgeous green beans, it just hammers home how much better the fresh ones taste than anything that can be found for the rest of the year. The cherry tomatoes are better than candy, and the blueberries are still flowing in. Soon the regular and cooking tomatoes will be mowing me down - I guess in some ways it was a good thing that the recording I'm supposed to be doing in France starting in 2 weeks has been delayed. I'm sad about that, but at least my veggies won't be going to waste.

Happy Wednesday 😊
@Steph1498 I also got up and got my workout in right away! It is a great way to start the day for sure!
I also cleaned house this morning. Our smoke has eased up and we took the kids to the lake and stayed later than usual. Keeping my kids inside for the past 5 days has been hard. My boys were ready to explode so I set up the exercise bike for them the other day. Hopefully we continue to see better air quality.
I have a Mediterranean cook book I like. I will dig it out and post a picture. It has a wide variety of recipes so you can definitely find things you like.5 -

This sounds like a really great win.... totally get how hard it can be not to turn to food for support when it's been such a source of comfort in the past. Way to go.3 -
Good job to all the morning people! I so love this strategy for just getting it done and out of the way early. Of course, this is coming from a natural morning person, soooooo I imagine the night owls might have something to say about that
As I've slowly been pushing towards a higher daily step count, I know my day personally goes so much better when I get a head start on things. There is always a bit of a mental hill to get over for me when the day is ticking away and I realize my step count is low. I don't mind going out at night to finish up, but there's a big difference between capping off the day with a short little walk versus having to put the bulk of my miles behind me late in the day.
Having said that, today (unlike what @jugar described for her day) did end with me riding the stationary bike for 20 minutes to meet my goals. I like knowing this is always a backup option... Brad bought the bike last winter as part of his initial hip replacement recovery and it's proving to be quite useful for us in general now to have it.
08/04 exercise:
9,649 steps + 20 minutes on the stationary bike3 -
Hi all,
My apologies for being so late in introducing myself in the August chat. For those that are newer to the team, I'm Brad, husband and best friend of @ashleycarole86. We are on this journey together and what a journey it's been so far. I've lost about 55 pounds so far and my level of physical activity has grown exponentially. We are extremely fortunate as we live in the mecca of outdoor activity. My favourite activities include hiking in the mountains and cycling. Currently I ride a mountain bike several times a week but I'm fascinated by the idea of taking up road cycling. Honestly, the feeling of attacking a hill or fighting a headwind invigorates me.
Less than a year ago, I could barely walk due to a debilitating hip injury. I had been on a waiting list for hip replacement surgery for several years and was addicted to pain killers and packing on weight. Thankfully, that's all in the rear mirror. I am prescription free and I'm up for any sort of physical activity that will let me burn some calories.
My journey is not without its challenges. Here's my top 3.
1) I am easily influenced by how others around me are eating. If we're out and someone at my table gets an appetizer, it'll take all I've got to resist the temptation.
2) I really struggle with any less than positive result on the scale. We weigh ourselves daily and my weight fluctuates during the week. Any day that I gain or remain the same is extremely discouraging, which is unrealistic.
3) I haven't developed the skills to intuitively make good decisions. If we are out, I'm routinely shocked by the calories in an item or what I thought was a healthy choice actually turns out to be a poor one. Today we had breakfast and the place had a chicken and avacado omelette. It seemed like it was a healthy choice and one that I was interested in, but upon reviewing the nutrition chart of the restaurant I learned that this item was +1500 cals, which is my full allotment for the day.
I have come to learn that I will be tracking for the rest of my life and that's okay with me. I've learned how lucky I am to have the most amazing role model in my spouse and I've also learned that the people here make this journey a whole lot more fun and inspiring.9 -
@DD265 @conleywoods it is nice to hear that there are other team members with similar situation that could manage to not get tempted to eat more in this situation, and continue the weight loss journey 😊💪4

@bowens1973 You have had so many great learnings and realizations, and your list of challenges shows that. Self-awareness is huge to making progress. Love your mentality and I get a ton of inspiration out of it.
@DD265 That's great about your partner helping you with your tracking. When you're not the main cook, that's totally a game changer!

The weigh-ins are looking fabulous - @ashleycarole86 and @bowens1973 together lost 7 pounds! Watch out, Downsizers - we're in the running for this week for sure
I had a dental checkup and cleaning this morning, so my day is off to a slow start. Out to the garden I go...6 -
@jugar CW 180.2 getting closer to the next decade. I'll try not to scare myself back to a higher weight, again!
Happy August! It seems like ages since I checked in so, here goes. I live in Windsor, Vermont with my 35-yr-old daughter and 3 cats. I'm married to Sarah James, who is currently a cook at a resort in Wyoming (returning in early October). My older daughter, Emily lives 1/2 the year in VT (wedding photographer) and 1/2 the year with her husband in Florida.
My weightloss journey has been a winding path through yo-yo-land and misperceptions of how I *think* my body looks vs how it *actually* looks. The times that seemed easiest to lose weight and keep it off were eating regimens that were extreme. Macrobiotics and Whole 30 being 2 examples in opposing directions!
I'm now almost 64 (don't queue up the Beatles - it'll get stuck in my head!) and have discovered the psychological program of eating through NOOM. The scale has finally started to cooperate with my attempts to decrease my weight, and for that I'm grateful. My hope and plan is to lose another 30 pounds so I can be a more comfortable "me" in my 5'2" frame. Sarah is 6'2" and serves equal sized portions...that will change when she's home. It's got to so I don't have to keep my old wardrobe!
It's great to be here and read all of your escapades. It's been a really good place to keep up with my sister (@jugar) as well, since the border was closed and we haven't actually seen each other in person for a very long time. My plan is to have her come down after my surgery (8/23) so we can catch up and gab, etc. We'll see how soon that'll all come together.
Have a great day, y'all.

@once_mas It definitely takes some problem solving when only one of you needs to drop pounds. My husband and I have made a lot of progress in this area. We use to spend a lot of time trying to accommodate the other person in an attempt to help. This lead to frustration for both of us. We have totally different calorie needs and it really didn't work. Once we got to the point where we acknowledge that he need 3 times as many calories as I do and I have fewer calories to work with things got easier. He eats more snacks throughout the day and higher calorie foods. I get lots of practice saying no or eating treats in moderation. I have other snacks that work for me too. We like to have evening snacks after the kids go to bed. This works best if we plan ahead. I save calories for snacks or I give him a heads up if a meal we have planned will take all of my calories. The more you communicate the better. He knows what my goals are and totally supports me. Bottom line the man must have a tapeworm because he is always hungry!6

Hi just popping in. Sorry I have been MIA. No real news. Just life marching on and back to spending more time at our home instead of out with Delta rearing it’s ugly head. I won’t relax until my granddaughter can be vaccinated.
Heading to my son’s at the beach tomorrow to see him and watch his kitties while he goes on a business trip. He has a nice boardwalk by his home so we will take nightly walks.
I haven’t been logging. Food has been ok. About the norm for me. Not great not awful. I am looking forward to fresh seafood.
@jugar I will probably weigh in tomorrow before we go or if it’s terrible maybe skip this weigh in. Either way I will let you know tomorrow.
@ashleycarole86 I would love to be on the step team. I need something to get my steps back up. My goal for now will be 8,000 steps a day. I usually post on Sunday all at once.
@conleywoods @Steph1498 and @JourneyAlone I am also very interested and think I would do well with the Mediterranean plan. Looking forward to seeing your posts.
I’m trying to catch up with all the posts. 🙌🏼5 -
This is the Mediterranean cookbook I have. Its by America's Test Kitchen and it is a pretty big cookbook. It has recipes from Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Libya. With so many flavors you will definitely find something you like! We have liked everything we have tried so far.

It's been a little busy here, was away from home for a visit with some friends for a few hours. I haven't seen them since just before the covid lockdown.
Today, I was able to keep my carbs even lower than I normally do.
Even though its a little warm, still made a healthy soup. Chicken breast, cooked in bone broth with veggies, and some herbs. Was nice and very few carbs, which came from the vegetables. It didn't have a lot of calories which was also very nice.
@micki48, The more the merrier. I don't cook large meals, only small ones. Because, it just me and I don't really like cook complicated meals. Simple meals that are easy to prepare but are healthy.

Hello to all the familiar names and welcome to the new members...I've just read through all the posts...sounds like we're all feeling quite determined....let's do it!
I'm Sylvia, 52, in Massachusetts. I started with Waistaways in Jan 2020. I knocked off about 40 lbs that year, mostly I attribute that to logging food and checking in here with this supportive group and gleaning good tips from others. I'm mostly active but not deliberate about exercise...I think the calorie intake is really the main thing. Have been fluctuating lately and heading up the scale and I'm needing to rein that in. I think my biggest trigger for poor eating is when I've got so much to do that I don't know where to start...the next might be alcohol...a couple of glasses of wine and the next day I ravenously try to eat my way to feeling normal again. So one of my 'habits' again is - no alcohol - I took a 4 month break last fall and it felt good. I'm also trying to avoid sugar for at least 2 weeks to try to shake my sweet tooth.

Thanks for all the numbers - it is looking decidedly green in there! For those who are new, on the spreadsheet weight losses are displayed in green, gains in red, and staying the same in black. Aim for the green, however small the amount may be! I am impressed by this week - but let's be vigilant. The first week of every month tends to be strong, and then there can be a drop-off effect and the energy, logging, exercise, and weight loss is not so good. So do not celebrate the week 1 losses by doing things differently! Keep at it if you had a great week 1
I have certainly triumphed over the groundhogs, @eggfreak - you should see the piles of veggies coming in every day now! Green beans, tomatoes, Asian eggplants, spinach, chard, salad greens, zucchini, golden beets - we are swimming in vegetables. And herbs. And blueberries. The only think missing is kale - and the new crop that I planted after the groundhogs ate every last plant will soon be ready to eat. I'm going to turn back into kale. My son says that we are what we eat, so I must be kale. I think I'm a kale and eggplant love child, personally3 -

@micki48 YAY!! Glad to have you.. 8K it is enjoy your weekend getaway
@wolfy1234 congrats on a great first weigh-in as part of the group
@jugar great reminder for us all for sure. Your veggies sound superb
For today's staycation fun Brad and I rented a raft and floated down the Bow River. It was great weather for it (minus smoke). We left our bikes at the end so we could ride back to the car. On the way back, Brad's bike seat completely exploded and parts flew everywhere.. he is so lucky he didn't hurt himself. He had to ride standing up the rest of the way... a nice guy who was obviously a serious biker stopped and explained what he thought failed and said it should be an easy fix.. helped us make sure we found all the pieces too. Odd little moment.
Absolutely bagged now so I have nothing more to report except today's exercise:
24 minutes yoga + 40 minutes bike riding + 7013 steps

I also checked out their website https://www.americastestkitchen.com/guides/the-complete-mediterranean-cookbook/recipes-to-make-now and wow the meals looks beautiful and nutritious! I cant wait to try some of these recipes!
@journeyalone - I love me some salmon too! Funny though I only make it about once a month and it always feel like a healthy splurge. I think I will add it in more. I've been wanting to try other fish as well so that should be good.3 -

It awesome to read everyone's posts again and to be part of this community.
Looking forward to seeing all our results by the end of this long month.
@eggfreak - Good for you for setting goals about alcohol and sugar. They just lead to other bad choices and I feel the same way about alcohol. When I don't have it at all I feel better.
I'm more on the side that if I have some wine or a cocktail or two then I have a snack...
Really its easier if I just say that okay I am not drinking tonight (or snacking) its better for me all around. I've found that a glass of cold tonic water is just as satisfying as the cocktail and bonus that I feel better about it in the morning.4 -

SUPER slow start over here today.. just popped my head outside quickly and it's very smoky.1
