Today, we meet with genetics counselor for my husband's pancreatic cancer to see if our 2 boys will have markers for it as well.
Dr. bills have started even though we met our deductible for this year, but we start over in January so that will be costing us.
And of course, trying to get ready for Christmas.....
@LaurieWrobo I can only imagine all that you and your family are going through and still trying to make a happy holiday for your boys, while inside you must be devastated...my prayers are with you and I hope your Christmas is peace-filled. Medical bills are the worst...took me forever to pay off my part of the surgery bills from a few years ago...
How old are your boys?
I hope you guys have a great Christmas...

The sacroiliac joint issue shows here, unfortunately. I’m hoping it clears off soon so I can get more exercise and fresh air in. Today I have that second postpartum checkup with a physical therapist. It’s a 90-minute appointment with time to discuss active recovery and fitness, and hopefully she can check the joint as well.

Ramblings of the day
Good morning team. Tuesday was a really nice day. It was -5 celsius which is totally my kind of weather. Everything was frosty. It took some effort, but I made it outside for a walk in the National Park around 10 in the morning. I am so glad I went. It was lovely. Frozen leafs crunching under my feet, sun through the trees, woodpeckers chopping away. It was a 5 kilometer walk or something, so not too crazy.
I finally got my plants around 17:00. They seem to be in okay shape. One of them has two broken leafs and some pots I got aren't big enough. I ordered some new ones, but I expect that delivery will come after Christmas. That's alright though, I will transfer them to the bigger pots next week. Maybe I will get some smaller plants for the pots I will have left. Plants make the room a lot more cozy.
I will share some pictures under the spoiler. Happy Wednesday everyone

@pupowl Your photos are amazing...wish I could feel the way you do about frosty weather. I cannot tolerate the cold. Spent six years in Minnesota a while back and when I left town, I donated my thick coat and told them I'd never live north of the Ohio River ever again! It was beautiful with all the snow, but I swear, it takes a heartier person to handle those temperatures and conditions. I guess I was born a wimp! The way you described what you saw and heard on your walk was so vivid, it made me want to experience it too. I can tell you're a creative person because you have a way with visual and descriptive language. I truly think you missed your calling!!
Your home is lovely...and I like your cat tree!! I think your plants will bounce back under your kind hands, especially once they're replanted and acclimate to their new home.
Happy Holidays and keep those pictures coming!!

Thx for asking my husband qualified from a research institute to get his blood draw for free b/c 1) he's young to have this type of cancer; 2) b/c it is pancreatic cancer. So it will take 2 to 3 weeks to get results. The research institute will use his sample for future use in identifying this cancer and possibly saving lives

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, my healthy friends! Thank you for all the work that goes into hosting this challenge that has made a big difference in my journey and for everyone who participates. I've logged my food on MFP in the past and then fell off the wagon numerous times. This year, I decided to become a member of the community and to be actively engaged. It's made such a huge difference in helping me stay focused and inspired. Finally, after decades of struggle, I plan to hit my goal weight in 2022 and be the best version of me. I couldn't do it without you.8 -

This was a good day! My physical therapy appointment went well. My pelvic floor and abs are well healed from pregnancy and delivery, and I’m cleared for all gym workouts. She recommended I start with machines instead of free weights, which is fine by me. She also said it’s safe for me to plan on starting running in the spring when the weather is good enough (=roads thaw), as long as I slow down immediately if something feels off. She also gave me some exercises to stabilise my core and glutes and help the sacroiliac joint issue, and it’s already feeling a lot better.
After the appointment I went out to an early dinner with my husband and we picked up the extension set for our daughter’s crib. Then he stayed home with the baby and I went out to my godfather’s choir’s christmas concert. I was a bit anxious about whether it’s safe to attend, but turns out the main health official of Finland was also in the audience - US equivalent would be seeing Fauci in the concert audience. So, my internal moral dilemma of whether it’s safe and responsible was diminished. After the concert we went for a couple of beers in the nearby bar we always go to. My mom had reserved tables for us and it wasn’t crowded at all, so it was nice as well. Now I’m home, pumping away and getting ready to go to bed.
Tomorrow we have our daughter’s 2-month healthcare appointment, some last minute Christmas shopping, a gym visit (just to the front desk to make some arrangements), and pizza&movie night. Lots of cuddles with our daughter, too, as I spent most of the day apart from her today.5 -
Hi everyone sorry I’ve been absent. I was having trouble with my puppy. He had suddenly escalated behavioural problems. He stared lunging at people, and biting. We got a behavioural trainer in, took him to the vet. His behaviour deteriorated quickly, he was confused and scared when out on walks, and started jumping up and biting randomly. We have no idea what happened, the vet couldn’t find a physical reason. Maybe a tumour? Maybe seizures?
We had to euthanize him 😞 He was only 14 months old. Thankfully he didn’t hurt anyone and was calm and loved when he passed.6 -
@hipari I'm glad your appointment exceeded your expectations and that the therapist was able to give you some exercises for the pain you've been experiencing! Also, glad you got good news about the gym and your regiment plans! Sounds like the concert was lovely! I bet it was very festive!!
@CasandraW Very sorry for the loss of your little fur baby...sometimes things like that happen randomly and you have no other choices. I'm glad he didn't suffer...your heart will heal and when you're ready you'll find another little one who needs a loving home. **hugs**
@kcpond If you're like me, you were already mentally prepared this week of all weeks for a tiny gain. I'm sure you'll turn it around in no time. Hopefully in a couple of weeks, we'll both be going the right direction!! You got this!
@coblujay Nice loss this week! You're getting awfully close to Onederland!! Can't wait to celebrate with you!
I hope everyone is getting in the holiday spirit. Yesterday was a little tough for me...very emotional...this time of year is hard when both parents are gone...but I'm feeling better today. I hope today's mood continues...I'm off until Monday and am looking forward to some relaxing. Tomorrow I have 3 piano lessons to teach and then have to take Hazel to the vet for her annual exam and shots. She will NOT be happy...she hates being put in her carrier and going outside. Once we're back home, it shouldn't take me long to get back on her good list.
Have a wonderful Thursday and if you get the chance to do a random act of kindness, I challenge you to do so. You'll make someone's day and trust me, it will make yours too.

The weather in the Netherlands isn't usually that great. Frosty days like this are very rare, snowy days even more so. When we do have days like this, I always do my best to enjoy them as much as possible to get the most out of it. Yesterday was another amazing frosty day, but this morning most of it is gone again. Maybe I would also feel differently if I had this type of weather every day. I generally feel better in colder weather though. The only nice things about summer are the flowers and bees and butterflies, but the temperature makes me feel horrible and sun gives me headaches.
Thank you so much for your kind post. I hope my plants will be okay too. I will keep you updated.3 -

Ramblings of the day
Good morning team. We had another very cold and frosty day. I went out for a walk pretty early, around 8:10 when it was just getting light outside. My walk was around 6 km long and I really enjoyed myself. I saw 2 deer, though they were really far away. I kinda ruined the walk with pizza in the evening. Pretty upset about that. I had ordering food under control very well until the medication ruined things. Now I feel like I have to start over. I am afraid I will not be able to record a loss on Saturday.
Some more pictures under the spoiler. I hope everyone who celebrates has a lovely Christmas. Happy Thursday everyone5 -
@Pupowl I can’t see how an evening pizza could possibly ruin your morning walk! The walk was a walk, you clearly enjoyed yourself, saw beautiful nature and probably increased your cardiovascular fitness a little bit. Calories and whatnot in the pizza have nothing to do with that walk, even if you ate back all the calories burned on that walk. The pizza didn’t ruin anything and I’m guessing your medication is improving your overall wellbeing and health (if not, talk to your doctor), a small setback is a small setback if anything. You need food to sustain yourself every day, pizza is just a different form of food. Also, unless you’re planning on never having pizza in your life again, might as well learn to enjoy it guilt-free every now and then. Even if you won’t record a loss this week, it’s just one week of many. Life has ups and downs, and weight absolutely has ups and downs. It’s the trend that matters.
Your pictures are absolutely gorgeous!6 -
@hipari
You are totally right of course. The walk was great and the food has nothing to do with it. I walk for several different reasons, burning calories isn't even the main one. I still feel bad that the pizza probably erased that progress. I don't mind ordering food once every 3-4 weeks, but it has been a big issue lately where it turns into 2 or 3 times a week. That's usually a sign that I am not doing great mentally. Sadly, the medication made things worse and not better, so I am currently working on lowering the dose and I will be able to stop in a few days. I appreciate you took the time to write your post. It helps me be a little more realistic and not so hard on myself. Thanks for the compliment, I am glad you like my pictures!5 -

If you're taking a temporary break and want to still monitor the team, but not participate in the weigh-ins, you can move to the support team. This allows you to stay part of the team, not have to re-register and gives you a break from the scale. If you're plan is to leave permanently, I will just ask the MODS to remove you. If you choose this option, and wish to return at some point, you'll have to re-register and be assigned to a team (you can request a team if you choose). We'd love to have you stick around, if you just need a period of time for a break.
Let me know what you'd like. This time of year is rough for many of us, for many different reasons, so don't feel that you're alone.
In any case, I wish you a peace-filled, relaxing holiday and a wonderful New Year! The New Year will offer us all an exciting chance to re-center ourselves, make new plans...and enjoy "New Year/New You!"

Hi Ya'll...I've had a pretty good day today...got my walking done earlier this morning, then watched a couple of Christmas movies I've been saving on the DVR. I set up a schedule since October and I've been taping them on four networks since then. Been watching one each evening and I still have about 50...I'll be watching holiday movies until Spring...not to mention the New Years ones will start soon (but not as many). I just love holiday movies...they're sweet, always have a happy ending and no violence or horrible language...yes, in short, I've turned into my grandparents! LOL I'm ok with that!
Read a little this afternoon and taught three virtual piano lessons. Tonight I am taking Miss Hazel (my fur baby) to the vet for her annual exam, shots and getting her nails trimmed. I have no problems doing the front ones once every couple of weeks, but those back ones...she doesn't like those touched, so when she goes in for her annual exam, I let them have that fun. In short, I'm gonna be on her poo poo list for a couple of days for sure! It's so cold outside...not looking forward to this little adventure. Getting her into her carrier will be fun enough for me...UGH! Hope to be back by 8pm and watching another holiday movie!
Trying to decide what to do for dinner...don't really want to cook that late, so I may pick something up. I'm not sure what I'll do. I've got some allergies bothering me today so I'm not really hungry...whatever...I just want this vet visit over. I hate putting her through all this.
Worked a little this afternoon on the next weekly challenge...I'll put it out on Saturday night. This one will get us ready for the new year...offer some tips and help us in planning for setting new goals, etc. I hope you like it. Watch for that announcement this weekend.
OK, well hope you're all having a festive day and relaxing in front of your trees...would love to see a picture of your fur children in front of your trees if you have one! That would make me smile.
Enjoy your evening!

Really disappointed in myself. I have not tried to eat better nor workout the past week and everytime i look in the mirror i hate that ive let myself go. I did work out this morning burning 600 calories, and plan on doing it again tomorrow before the coldness really hits Saturday.6
