DW, I am eager for you book report on Dr. Mike's new book. I quickly looked at it on Amazon. It looks interesting. It is highly rated so far.

Shari, I hope you are feeling better and that you did take at least one sick day. Please take good care of yourself!!

My cousin and her DH visited us this morning, specifically to meet Buster. They live about 60 miles from here and were in the area for a medical appointment. She is by far my closest relative in every way. She is 7 months older than me, but we were in different grades in school because of the cut off age dates for enrollment, so she graduated a year ahead of me. It was wonderful to see both of them. They adored Buster, and he adored them. It is going to be difficult for me to not mention Buster every time I post here, but I will eventually use some self restraint! We have decided that Buster is most likely a Chihuahua mixed with Corgi. A friend of mine sent me a link that discusses this mix called a Chi-gi. It is kind of a funny name, but the explanation seems to fit Buster quite well. DW, have you come across this mix in any of your many dog adventures??

I had a better eating day today as we are settling into our new routine with Buster. I am back to addressing items on my "to do" list but still below my pre-Buster levels of accomplishment. It's all good though and well worth having the joy of this sweet dog.

Hi Everybody! Shari, I hope you are feeling better! Paula, I haven't heard of a Chi-gi but Buster's ears look very Corgi-like! He is so cute!! I hope you will continue to mention him in your posts!! Is his tail also Corgi-like? I know that one type of Corgi has a tail and one type doesn't but I don't recall about a Chihuahua's tail. Diane and MJ, I hope you are both doing well!
The new Dr Mike book arrived around 8:00pm tonight and I started it but am only into the introduction. So far it is an interesting read but I haven't found "the plan" yet, I'm trying not to skip ahead so that I can get the background and philosophy.....we'll see if I can remain that patient-LOL!! I'm back to the book. Have a great evening!!

Always so good to get photos, and Buster is very photogenic!
I recovered very quickly from being sick but I took a half day off from work. It's not something I typically do, but I am finally realizing that work will always be there and it's okay to put some time aside for my physical well-being. That's what sick days are for.

I lost weight being sick (1.5 pounds) and I am trying hard to not gain it back. I am recording my food intake daily and I find not eating after 6pm fairly easy to do now. Time will tell if I have the right calorie range, I just have to be very careful to stick to it.

Yesterday morning when I went to feed Moe I saw a couple of coyotes in our front yard. I should have grabbed my phone to take a video, although it was still pretty dark out. They were quite playful, but hung around too long for my comfort. I will be quite nervous to be outdoors as this is the third time we have spotted a coyote close to the house.

I have tried to catch up on everyone's news this am. Shari, glad you are feeling better. Paula, enjoy hearing about Buster. Will be hard to keep our resolve not to get another dog after reading your posts! Traveling plans does not allow us but boy, do I miss having a dog. DW, anxious to hear what you learn from his new book.
The wedding was beyond great! It was so good to be with family a whole weekend. Having stayed to ourselves pretty much so since the start of the pandemic, what a wonderful time. We did so much walking up and down hills, steps, that I actually came home down one pound. So now the work is getting back on the diet and staying there. Next goal is 5 lbs. Also adding in more activity, stretching. I have shorts I need to fit into comfortable before our warmer weather hits. My body is definitely enjoying the stretching and the lighter weight to carry.

MJ, so good to hear that you had such a good time at the wedding. What a bonus to be down a pound on top of it all. I have a similar weight loss goal to you; knowing that warmer weather is coming, I have some shorts that I would like to fit into.

I haven't put on the weight I lost when I was sick, I am trying to hold onto my current weight and I hope to do it.

HI Everybody! MJ, so happy that the wedding weekend was wonderful!! Shari, I'm glad you are feeling better!! Diane, and Paula, I hope things are going well!! Here is my "book report". Some chapters I read, others I skimmed over (like the chapter with exercises). I plan to back track at some point to read the portions that I quickly looked at. The book is "The 17 Day Kick Start Diet" by Mike Moreno, MD. This plan is somewhat similar to his first one but also somewhat different. It is based on 3 phases and "plant forward" eating. The 1st phase is the most restrictive food-wise. It lasts three days and is called "Scrub". The purpose is to detox your body and break sugar addiction. The food is plant based although specific fish and a specific type of chicken are permitted. The second phase lasts four days and is called "Soak Up". The purpose is for your detoxed body to soak up good nutrition. The foods are similar to "scrub" but some additional options are added to the list, including eggs. The final phase, "Stabilize", lasts ten days and has even more foods added to the list. Once the three phases, equaling 17 days, have been completed, he makes suggestions based on how much one still needs to lose. Options are to do the 17 days again (Phase 1,2,3), go back to Phase 2 and then do Phase 3, or stay with Phase 3 forever or as long as you want/need. There are chapters regarding exercise, supplements, CBD, sleep, stress, goals, and recipes. I'm going to start it on Monday because I am working at an Obedience trial all weekend so won't have as much control over my food as usual. Please let me know if you have any questions and I will be happy to try to answer them. Have a great evening!!

DW…thanks for the book synopsis! I hope it works well for you! I am not glad to be on my plateau but am happy not to be gaining with all the treats we are having with guests for the month! The IF seems to be regulating my gaining at least. After mys sister leaves I may switch up my food list to 17DD foods for a couple weeks and see if I can kickstart a losing streak. Is so hard!

MJ….so happy for you…the wedding sounds like a wonderful family time and great memories!
Shari….not nice to lose weight from illness but good you are able to keep it off!

Paula…I love that little guy! Pictures anytime! As Shari said, so photogenic and he makes me smile. I am so happy for you and John (and Buster) that you found each other. Obviously, meant to be!❤️

DW, Thank you for the info on Dr. Mike’s new book. It sounds quite interesting. I think I will purchase it eventually. I am interested in the plant based aspects you mentioned. A while back I incorporated some plant based choices after seeing an inspirational episode of the Dr. Oz TV show. I had considerable success on that, though at the moment I cannot recall the name of that diet. Buster doesn’t have a Corgi tail. John sees it as a Beagle-like tail, so perhaps Buster is part Beagle too.

Shari, I am glad you are feeling better. Congrats on dropping more than a pound….not exactly a preferred way to drop pounds, but now that it happened….woo hoo! How is your dad doing?

MJ, Wow a wonderful wedding, great family times, and losing weight…..all in one weekend! Super!

Thanks Diane for your kind comments about Buster. John and I agree that it was “meant to be” for Buster to have us and vice versa. We all love each other so much!

I had an excellent WW and IF day today….after a marginal day yesterday. Today I feel much more in control and satisfied. For the past 2 days prior to today I was very tired and not very motivated (probably a minor flare). Thank goodness, today I feel well rested and back on track. I am typing this using John’s laptop because mine is with our “computer guy” who does maintenance on all of our computers every 6 months or so. This time he found a problem that requires more than the usual amount of time. I will pick up the computer tomorrow and will be very glad to have it back.

It is nice catching up and hearing everyone's news here. Hope everyone and their families are well - in these times that is so very much.
DW - thank you for the book report! I loosely follow the 17 day diet. What is most helpful to me is increase in vegetables, fruit, and decrease in snacks and "easy" foods. I struggle most with consistent scheduled exercise, yet that is what effects my metabolism most effectively. Please let us know how it is going with you with his new book.
Paula - happy for you with Buster! Thank you for "sharing" him here with us. Good to hear you are feeling well.
Shari - hope you are still doing well. I, too, need to fit into some shorts...will be trying them on today not because they fit but need new motivation for the coming month. With our weather already hitting 80 degrees, I need to get with it!
Prayers for all and your families to remain well!

Hi Everybody! Today is Day 1 after totally indulging at the Obedience Trials all weekend. I got up, weighed in and drank my lemon water. I’m glad that this “scrub” phase is only 3 days!! I’m off to a rough start because my husband borrowed my van and hit the old well head when he pulled back into the driveway. He said he didn’t realize he hit it and kept going so there is damage all down the side of the van. Tomorrow I’ll go out in the daylight and try to better assess the damage. It is drivable as far as I can tell but this is going to be a costly and time- consuming incident. Thanks for letting me vent!!
I will report back tomorrow - I need to go to bed before I start eating 😂. Have a good evening!!

    Happy Valentine's Day friends!

DW, Yikes! So sorry about your van situation! Vent here anytime....we all do ;) . I applaud you for going to bed to avoid eating!

MJ, Your prayers for all of us are most appreciated. I do consider us a very special group here.

I did ok today, surprisingly since my schedule was off just somewhat. I think the IF has kicked in a bit, and I am less hungry on some days than in the past. I tracked all of my food (including some after dinner sweets) and am within my WW points but at the top of my range. Well, Buster had his first visit to the vet today....the same vet that took excellent care of Jambo for all 15 years of his life. It is a small practice with only one vet, a few vet techs, and occasionally a second vet. Because of Covid restrictions, they picked Buster up curbside, and after the exam the vet called me to discuss everything. This vet loved Jambo and always told us that Jambo was the nicest Chihuahua he ever met. Today when he called me as I waited in our van, he said, "Paula....how do you pick them??" He was quite smitten by Buster, as were his techs. They allowed Buster to run around the entire clinic and just raved to me about what a sweetie he is. He is healthy and in good condition. We are doing a DNA test to determine his make up. When the tech called to tell me he was ready to go, she said, "You have to bring him here once a month....for employee morale....we want to see him a lot!" We both laughed.

Hi Everyone!! I’ve had a busy and productive day. Thankfully insurance will cover my van damage. I had it checked over at a body shop that the insurance works with, which is also part of the dealership that my van is from and the man said that they have all of the parts and materials needed . That is a lucky break! He will call to schedule the repairs. I also had a hair appointment which is always a treat! The scale was not down today but I’m sticking with it for the 17 days. If that doesn’t produce results, I will go back to the original 17dd.
Paula, I’m happy to hear that Buster had a good checkup and made friends at the vet office! MJ, Diane, and Shari, I hope and pray that you are all doing well!! Have a good evening!!

It's wonderful that Buster is not only a good fit for your family, but he is loved by others too Paula.

My work from home days are over in part. I have to start going in to the office three days a week. There is a bit of a grace period to get used to it, but starting March 1, it will become the normal. I am thankful to have worked at home for as long as I did. It will be harder to go in during the summer. It was amazing to save the driving time and enjoy clocking off and heading to my garden. Retirement will be welcomed in a couple of years.

I haven't weighed in for a couple of days and will wait a couple of more. I was off my eating plan for the last two days and don't want to see the impact lol!

DW, Good news that insurance is covering your van. And how nice to have a hair appointment. I am way over due for a hair cut but haven't attempted to make an appointment since I cancelled my January appointment because of Covid concerns. Yesterday I did, however, go for my 1st manicure since Christmas. And this is the first time since the pandemic that I didn't wear a mask for the manicure. There were only a total of 3 other people in the salon (the owner and her daughter who does my nails) and one client with the owner. I felt pretty safe, and my nails look great again. It gave me a boost!

Shari, You have a good attitude about returning to work in person. It will be an adjustment for sure. Knowing that you can look forward to retirement in a couple of years will make the transition easier I hope.

I had a classmates Zoom meeting tonight. It was our first zoom meeting of 2022. We had a great time as usual. I was surprised to see myself on the zoom because my face looked much thinner than in the past. I haven't weighed in in quite a while, but I have been feeling thinner so I should step on a scale soon. But I was really pleased to see my face looking thinner. Well, maybe it was the camera on my laptop. I've had a few "iffy" days again, not completely on track and not completely off track. Tomorrow my friend Kellie and her DH are coming for pizza and wine. I can plan ahead for my WW points to include the pizza and wine, but the big question is "will I." I will keep a good attitude and try to focus on how good I felt with my face looking thinner!!!

Hi Everybody! I hope you are all doing well!! We are having some challenging weather-unusually warm yesterday and this morning, then rain, increasing wind and then a very quick temperature drop. We've had rain, sleet, ice and now snow. The ice under the snow is the challenge. Our back sliding door is frozen shut but I will deal with it in the morning. Thankfully I don't need to go anywhere tomorrow!
I completed the first three days of the 17DD kickstart program and am down 2 lbs since I started it. Today started the 4 days of "soak up".
Paula, your classmates zoom sounds like fun! Congrats on your face looking thinner! I'm sure you will have a good result when you step on the scale again! Shari, I hope things will go smoothly when you return to work away from home! I also hope the time until your retirement will go quickly!! Diane and MJ, I hope things are going well!! Have a great evening!!

We had more weird weather here. We had high winds a few days ago and again today. In addition to the high winds (which did considerable damage around our area), we had a very bad snow squall this afternoon. So glad I was at home with no plans to go anywhere.

I enjoyed our visit from Kellie and her DH. Of course Buster was the entertainment for the evening. I enjoyed 2 pieces of pizza and just a half glass of wine....to busy talking most of the time. As Kellie and her DH were pulling out of our driveway to go home, Buster watched from the window inside. Kellie snapped the picture posted here....not bad for a cell phone picture taken through a car window at night. I had an ok day today for eating...but I did cave (and log) some sweets this afternoon. I am at the high end of my WW points but on track for IF hours. I am looking forward to a relaxing Sunday and maybe even will take a "holiday" for myself on President's Day Monday.

Here's the photo of Buster looking out from our window.

Paula, Oh my gosh…Buster is such a cutie. He is not the same breed I know…put he is “watching” the same way our little grand doggies watch out the window when we have them staying with us. Our next time will be May 19 when we will be back in MN (10-12 days for a trip our daughter and hubby are taking).

Shari…good luck with the return to work place! Will be an adjustment. We went to Las Vegas with my sis and her SO, and wow….no Covid precautions there. Like it never happened! Hotel/casino was most crowed we have ever seen. I hope Covid is truly in the past.

DW…a shame about your van. Always stressful dealing with repairs and insurance.

MJ….yes, the 80 degree weather was great. And glad is motivation to diet for shorts, lol! Back to more normal temps this week. I can’t wear shorts anymore…am a capri pants person in my “old age”…. and my goal is to keep wearing my 12-14P. They are still comfy loose on me even with 2 lb gain from our trip. I am hoping a few days home and back on IF again will lose those travel lbs?? Always a battle.

The month with sister is going sooo fast. They arrived on 1st and now are at the tail end, leaving on 28th! Has been a fun month!😎

    Loving the photos!

Our weather has been quite off as well. Warm and melting followed by snowy and very cold. It's the second day of very cold out. We also have the ice hidden under a thin blanket of snow. Super dangerous walking anywhere.

My weight remains fairly steady. I haven't had any success completing all of my healthy habit goals daily. I get 3 out of 5 most days, and it's not typically the same three. I need to work on that to start seeing the results I am working towards.

I had a full day of rest/sabbath yesterday. It was quite nice. Today is a day off and I am going to fill it with a few things I wouldn't get to if working. I am making cinnamon buns for DH (I make them every long weekend) and will have to make sure to limit myself to one and maybe one tomorrow. I am painting a frame that houses a large mirror. It was left behind when we moved to the farm. It was gold and I am painting it black. We are going to install it in the bathroom we are renovating. It's the perfect size- I think. The new colour makes it less 1970s. I also hope to declutter some more of the basement. It still has a lot of items that DH's parents didn't take with them when they moved. It takes a lot to sort through them. I look forward to our next trip to dropping them off at the thrift store. We still have so much to do on the house, but we are making progress even if it is slow.

Diane, Besides being the 17DD group, I think we could be a dog loving group. Finn is precious! His eyes are so sweet!

Shari, I smiled as I read your post about the mirror frame going from gold to black and looking less 70s. My mother loved gold things around the house. Even in those days when it was somewhat fashionable, it was not my taste.

I had a good day yesterday and am on track today so far. I have an appointment with my family doctor in 2 weeks. I was hoping to have a more significant weight loss for this appointment when I made it months ago. I am debating whether or not to keep the appointment. It is just a regular check up. I will decide by the end of next week and will watch the weather forecasts too. Knowing that the appointment is looming ahead could be motivating for me to stay the course. Time will tell I guess.
