March Intro Message:
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick message to introduce myself to the team. I'm Brad and have been a member of the team for the better part of a year now. In this time I have lost just over 100 pounds - I started my journey using a different service but saw all the fun that my wife @ashleycarole86 was having and had to join.
We live just north of Calgary, about an hour's drive to the Rocky Mountains - which is like a second home to us. My weight loss is like a recipe - a mixture of different things that individually wouldn't work well, but when mixed together have proven to be super effective. The include regular exercise - we absolutely love our Peloton and use it almost every day, we also enjoy hiking in the mountains most weekends and you will find me on my road bike spring to fall. On top of exercise, I sprinkle in an attempt at a healthy diet. My food choices are much better than ever before, but no foods are off-limits provided I have the calories. I have an insatiable sweet tooth. From there, I blend in regular calorie tracking. I am responsible for making the majority of the meals in our home (I love cooking) and the deal is that I write down everything the weight of everything that goes in to our meals and make them in exchange for Ash to figure out the calorie counts. Finally, I try to fold in rest and recovery through a good sleep.
My Top 2 biggest challenges I'd like to work on this month:
1) Avoiding screens during the night - I typically don't sleep great, so I have a nasty habit of grabbing my phone and catching up on current events, researching a topic, etc.
2) Hydration - I know that I don't drink nearly enough water. I enjoy water, but I have a tendency to get busy and forget it.
My Goals:
I am now less than 25 pounds away from my ideal weight. The 2022 cycling season is getting closer and closer and I just itching to hop on my bike and start riding. I am currently training for 2 Gran Fondos (aka Century Rides or 160km/100mile rides). I have one in early summer that will be in the Rocky Mountains in Alberta and one in late summer from Vancouver to Whistler. Finishing these two races will be a huge accomplishment as I was virtually immobile under 2 years ago as I was waiting on a hip replacement caused by a bad boating accident. Today I am pain free and have been given a second lease on life. I am married to my absolute best friend who is 13 years younger, so I need to do everything I possibly can to extend my life so that we can continue living the life of our dreams!7 -
My three numbers for the week:
-7.5 hours of sleep
6 hours 56 minutes. Oops! The movie we went to was longer than I thought and it took me a little bit to fall asleep. Better tonight!!
-64 oz of water
Got 80 oz in
-1694 net calories
Ate 2411, burned 734 for a net of 1677
@micki48 Not too late! I'll issue the reports tomorrow. So sorry to hear about your sister's cancer diagnosis.
@jugar My tactic is to know where I may struggle (I.e. I like eating at night) and to try to cater to that so I have less muscling through it I have to do. If I'm out of calories and want food I just remind myself I will eat again tomorrow. It's simple but if I get too far into my head about it it'll just make the mental struggle more challenging.
My brother got in from Montreal and we actually ordered separate dinners to my mom's house so Brad and I could have something healthier. Easier to do when with understanding and sympathetic family members but it felt good to get what we wanted.
Also did a retest of my FTP on the Peloton at lunch and had a great improvement. Love seeing the numbers get better!

Good morning

@veronica1359
I don't know but it's a birthday greeting that makes you smile
@micki48 big hug going out to you
I've learned a lesson - on long Tuesday when I work 'til 7 pm - I need to have a nice dinner waiting on a plate ready for zapping in the microwave. and then...immediately, as @jugar does, I need to brush my teeth. Next Tuesday I will be ready.5 -
@eggfreak , no. It is my errors/mistakes....but I am learning and having fun creating these cards3

More snow has fallen in the past few days, so it is perfect out there!
Ohh Liselyn, I yearn to have snowshoes and your perspective on winter. Last night after work we spent a mere1.5 hours shoveling and snowblowing our entire cul de sac. I haven't even attempted to clear the back stairs and deck, and I doubt I'm going to as they've announced MORE SNOW. The skating rink has been abandoned, the snow has defeated me. We are running out of places to put it. It looks beautiful when it sits on the trees but cold reality sure hits when the wind picks up and drops it down your coat collar!

I caught myself thinking about a celebratory food item when I saw that number on the scale and I've held back! that's the thinking that keeps me in this cycle. NO TREATS. I want to hit the next decade, sometime in THIS DECADE and stay there so food is not the reward. will stick to dreaming about new clothing and rewarding myself with 'me time'.
I haven't been good with my habit tracking this week. I managed to drink enough water each day but my covid sniffles have kept me from much else. So far no one else in the house has any symptoms so isolating myself away in the laundry room/home office/master bedroom closet seems to be working. at least I have books. and you guys!
@micki48 so sorry to hear about your sister's bad news. hugs flying your way.3 -
@veronica1359 thank you so much!!! 🥰🥰🥰2

Current weight is 228, which I think is either mostly no change or a little gain. Going through a stressful time so it's a little hard to be motivated at the moment8

3/1 exercise:
10016 steps + 40 minutes Peloton
I'm having a day where I really don't feel like doing my exercise after work.. where the decision to do it doesn't feel easy anyway. So, I just know I'll go and get dressed for it, and get my water filled, and take myself down to the bike. No time to negotiate or make other arrangements! Just going to do it.6 -
Today work is defeating me. I caught myself twice reaching for snacks to distract myself. I managed to go for a walk to refresh my brain but the endorphins didn't last. I found an error in my spreadsheet that has worked its way into the finished product of a presentation. Guess I should just buckle down and get back at it. The computer is far from the kitchen. Very far. I should bring water... It's far. Did I mention it's far?4

I am really disappointed. I have been on track for 7 days...which is probably my longest streak for 2022. I know there are many reasons this may be happening but I am still sad.6 -
What a day! The absolutely delightful birthday card from @veronica1359 was a great way to begin! I am sure the twins' smiles got even bigger, if that is possible, when they saw that. Great fun! If you really want to know how to delete your post, though - go to the 3 dots . . . at the top of the message, click on it, and you should be able to edit or delete. But you practicing and learning something new is wonderful to watch in any case
@PlaneMonkey it is true, your shovelling and snowblowing sounds seriously tiring. We are fabulously lazy and I walk on our paths over and over again from house to ash barrels to OH's workshop, the compost heap, etc. so that they are well packed and we never shovel. We leave our epic driveway (900 metres, steep, hairpin curve, etc.) closed most of the time, but occasionally OH gets all energetic and goes down with the tractor with the snowblower on it, just to make walking up and down a bit easier. But the well-packed toboggan trail usually does the trick, and it is how all the groceries get up here. Today it was a hard slog, I have to admit. In any case, I hope you can get some snowshoeing in some time! And find some teenagers to shovel for you Oh - and no snacks. You're doing it! Keep going!
I love the step report for last week - looking at the virtual walk we made as a team made me laugh. It looks like those town names were invented by 5 year-olds.
What a great month, though! Go us!KellyBgetsfit wrote: »PW 148.8

My numbers are going well today. All the fibre, calories under control, and exercise happening. Keep on going through, everyone!3 -
Hope our lovely twins @kellie_erin and @bonnie_red enjoyed their day.. and I agree your birthday wishes are a highlight @veronica13593

@ashleycarole86 and @YinxFed thanks for the kind words, sweet things! I am hoping that yesterday's weigh-in was the final wake-up call. I did a lot better today (not the "one perfect day" we sometimes quote, but certainly much-improved from the last... oh, 12 weeks?). I started my morning walk with a 1.25 mile jog/shuffle, did a 15 min morning yoga, and a 30 min total body strength workout. Eating was good minus an extra serving of pretzel crisps, and an errant drive down Ben & Jerry's lane. (I got lost).
@micki48 so sorry to hear about your sister! hang in there with the packing! sending hugs.
I never did my intro this month, so here goes: I'm Kay, 27, living in Boston, working in finance. Struggle with binge eating and emotional eating. Joined the group in August 2020, took an ill-fated break in early-ish 2021. Determined to make some real progress in 2022.
My goals for March:
1. water intake goal of 80 oz a day
2. get in a routine of 3-5 days working out a week
3. Possibly quit my job..... which would be scary with no new job lined up yet but such a relief for my mental health, as this job sucks with a capital S.
4. Mix salads into my lunches and dinners, it's been a while since I did a good arugula bowl
@ashleycarole86 can I rejoin the step team this week? daily goal of 10k. time for a triumphant comeback!
I am actually a little jealous of the snow our Canadian friends are getting. We've had a decent winter here in Boston, including this past weekend when I drove home to find that my parking spot had been plowed in! It was the first time I had to really shovel snow in... years. And I had such fun?! My back and shoulders were freakin sore the next day but I kind of wish I had more opportunity to do that kind of workout. At the same time, I took my third fall of the season on slick sidewalks so maybe it's time for spring!! (no injury, caught myself on my hands, just a lot of furtive glances to see which drivers saw me drop to the ground)5 -
