@marisap2010 @shanaber @quilteryoyo thank you, though my family prefer to say I'm a lunatic LOL. Not really badass, the badasses are the ones at the front racing them, I'm just at the back swearing a lot, clinging on for dear life and enjoying the views along the way :-)
It is so good to see everyone racing again, well done to all!5 -
@katharmonic Hills and a cruel finish! Sounds like a tough HM, especially when you haven’t done a lot of long running recently. Awesome work!!
@eleanorhawkins I don’t know that I agree with your definition there. It’s definitely badass to do something hard even if you’re not dominating at the front of the pack! Y’all are just different kinds of badass!
@marisap2010 Congrats on your race! I would love to hear how the 80/20 plan works out for you.
@quilteryoyo Good job keeping up the consistency through your motivation dry spell!

@Scott6255 Wow that’s windy. We had some pretty strong winds also on Saturday. At one point, I turned a corner into a headwind and it was still strong enough that it pushed my posture up and I kind of did a step almost in place before adjusting to it. Resistance training!2
-
Great job on your QM @marisap2010 ! I hope you like the 80/20 5K training plan.
Nice running @shanaber . Today and tomorrow are supposed to be nice here, but then have rain and cooler temps toward the end of the week. Hope you get answers from the ortho.
Nice that you are getting exercise in while traveling @Aine8046 ! Beautiful picture.

I haven't kept up with the thread over the weekend. But I did get a little running in to keep my streak. Friday I ran before we headed out and had a great run with perfect weather. Saturday morning in Austin was just beautiful. I ran 1.5 miles and really enjoyed it. I even saw my first bluebonnet of the season. We are about 200 miles north of Austin so they always get the spring flowers before we do. The redbud trees were blooming too and I also saw a few dogwoods. I didn't really see a lot of bluebonnets yet, but they are starting to pop up.
Sunday I didn't get to run before we left. We did go for a walk with our daughter. There is a really nice trail by her apartment complex and she wanted to show it to us. It was awesome. We walked 2.25 miles. I would really like to run there sometime. I was glad she has such a nice area to get outdoors. The RTE Streaker Challenge does count walking or running, so I almost let the walk count for my streak. But after we got home we took the dogs for a short walk and I decided to go ahead and run a mile to keep my streak a true run streak. We put the dogs in the house and my husband ran about half the way with me. So I managed to keep the streak alive.
The forecast for today was supposed to be rain and thunderstorms starting around 9 am and lasting until 5 or so. When I got up it hadn't really started raining yet so I went out for a quick run and ended up with 1.25 miles. My weather app and the radar didn't show rain yet, but it was already kind of drizzly. So far we haven't gotten any storms and I think the rain chances have decreased, but it is still damp and drizzling out there. I hope we do get some rain in this area. There are some pretty serious fires south of us and they definitely need it.
I haven't read through the thread yet. I thought I would get this posted and then go back and try to get caught up.

Congratulations on your half marathon @katharmonic! Even though you were on the struggle bus, you didn’t let it run over you!
Love your new Garmin @quilteryoyo! Glad for the report on @polskagirl01 and good to see her check in.
@kgirlhart you are doing great on your streak!
Great job on your quarter marathon @marisap2010! I love that medal and ribbon!

Ran after work but made sure to get out before the inevitable tornado watches this evening. It's warm and we already have winds about 20mph and some rain. I managed to avoid the rain and even got a couple minutes of nice tailwind! And concentrated on slowing down. It's easier to slow down when I run in the afternoon because my legs just feel more tired after work. In the morning I am fresh and ready to go!4 -
I started the 80/20 5K plan tonight with a "Foundation Run" consisting of 5 min in Zone 1, 30 min in Zone 2, 5 min in Zone 1. It feels so slow, but I am going to trust the process. I ended up with 2.42 miles. Hubby walked the route behind me while I ran.
I'm way behind on miles for the month. I'm only at 30.43 miles, so I certainly won't make it to 75, but I'm going to change my focus to following this plan as closely as possible.6 -
Thank you @scott6255, @quilteryoyo, @marisap2010, @shanaber, @martaindale and @Teresa502 and those who liked and hugged.
@marisap2010 great job on your quarter marathon! How are the cherry blossoms?
@eleanorhawkins you have quite a schedule coming up with your races. You sound ready for all these challenges! I think you really want to sign up for that long mountain race. I hope it happens this year.
@shanaber 90 degrees already, yikes. Good luck with the ortho appointment.
@kgirlhart great job keeping up your streak. I ran in Austin in the spring a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it.

I agreed to meet a friend for an "easy" run before my strength training class tonight. It was 50 degrees out, which is the nicest it will be all week, so I wanted to get a run outside instead of the treadmill at the gym. I wasn't feeling too sore from the HM yesterday, or so I thought. We did 1.6 miles out and I realized I was wiped out, breathing really hard, and my legs were complaining fiercely. But we had to get back so I could make it to class on time so I couldn't just walk back. My friend kept me going with her encouragement and chatter, but I felt like I was reliving the end of the race yesterday, lol. It was rough. But we made it.

@katharmonic, the cherry blossoms in my yard bloomed a couple of weeks ago, but it is a different variety than the Yoshinos we have in most of the city. They have started to bloom and should all be in full bloom by mid-week. Pic is of some blooms downtown on Saturday.

I made a long post yesterday and my internet was messing up and today it’s nowhere to be found! Oh well!
@marisap2010 Congrats on your quarter marathon! @katharmonic I confess I was nervous about your half since you hadn’t been doing as much training as you hoped, but it looks like you do enough cross training that it didn’t hurt you! Great job!
I’ve run twice since my last post. One tempo 5k at the Greenway with meds - had very little sleep and a lot of stress, which tends to make svt more likely, so it was a good test of whether my tiny dose would hold up under adverse conditions, and everything was fine. Under a wind alert and at times it felt like someone was pushing backwards! Otherwise an uneventful run.
Yesterday ran 5k trails at WC Johnson. No meds. My goal was to run slowly enough to keep my heartrate under 138 for three miles, followed by a sprint for the last .1. I didn’t quite do it but I came very close, apart from the sprint my max was 140, and most of the time it was under 138. Didn’t have to drop to a walk although we were pretty darned slow. I would call it a success. Next goal is to increase the distance I can run and still stay in that easy zone. We got out very late, started at sundown and finished in almost total darkness - moonrise wasn’t until a couple hours after sunset. It was lovely, running surrounded by owls, deer, and frogs. No snakes, thank goodness!
I bought a new running singlet - was bored with the girly colors offered by my usual brand so I took a chance on a cheap import brand from Amazon. Oh, so close! Looks great, nice color, fabric feels good, but the armholes are cut so high it tries to saw your arms off while running. It’s so annoying because it would be an easy fix, and cost them nothing, but it renders the garment useless. Do any of you ladies have a favorite singlet brand? I like them long enough to cover my tum and loose around the hips, but semi fitted.2 -
@kgirlhart You did great while visiting your daughter and keeping the running streak going. I love spring wildflowers. So pretty. I hope your daughter is okay after the tornado in Austin. I hope you and our other Texas friends are all okay after the storms blew through and the those who are getting the storms today and later this week stay safe too.
@martaindale Nice run. Hope you didn't have the severe weather.
@marisap2010 Nice Foundation run. I can never keep my HR in Zone 1. I'm usually out of that with my warm up walk.
You did great getting the run in @katharmonic ! That is the thing about an out and back. Once your out, you have to come back.
Nice running @rheddmobile . Glad your heart is behaving. I can't help you on the singlet though.1 -
Gosh I hope KGirlhart's daughter is ok also. She will need to check in. I have lived in Austin a LONG time and seen tornado's come close (last one close was 97) but I have never seen a system like last night that lasted for hours and hours. There were evidently so many tornado's popping up that the NWS did not even issue a warning with the one which hit Round Rock. When I had Bandit I drove that area every evening altho I doubt I would have gone with the fcst so dire. I did not get too much severe weather at my house but only the constant thunder and lightning and some pea sized hail about 9 PM. I got an amazing rainbow picture after the first storm came thru and normally the front would be gone and there would be blue skies. But yesterday the system just kept coming and coming until well past 1 am. My one cat who is my tornado warning woke me at midnight to get into the safe place again.6

Nice picture @SummerSkier . I'm glad you didn't have damage and have a warning cat.1

We are ok here, but it was pretty wild last night. Sirens going off, pitch black outside at 6pm, strong wind and heavy rain. The TV weatherman said there was rotation detected just 1 mile south of us. But never saw a tornado. My wife (and cat) went into the closet for a while
I have two nieces in Round Rock (just north of Austin). Heard there was tornado damage, but haven't been able to reach them yet. Hoping they are both Ok.
Glad to hear everyone else came through without much damage.5 -

I had some early morning things to take care of this morning so I ran at lunch today when it was sunny and 70F. I made the mistake of wearing a long sleeve shirt (what was I thinking?). Although, it’s nice to run in the middle of the day I get distracted more easily. Before I even got to the top of my driveway I stopped to pet a couple of the neighbor’s horses. Then a guy in a truck stopped to ask me about running. He is a runner also and runs a different section of the road and was wondering about dogs in my area. Then on the back of my out and back, a neighbor whose kids I grew up with was out scrubbing her porch so I stopped and talked to her for a few minutes. If it weren’t for all that, I could have easily gotten 5 miles in instead of 4 miles. Oh well, sometimes you just have to stop and smell the roses.
@Scott6255 – that sounds like a very scary night. I hope your nieces are ok.

Glad to see my TX peeps are all ok so far. That storm front was crazy! The worst of it hit in the wee hours of the morning here so it was still going strong when I woke up at 6 am. I slept through the majority of it because it wasn’t thundering much at all and the rain/wind makes for great white noise for me. We got a lot of lightening but no hail. Tornado watches but no warnings that I know of and nothing reported too close to us. Then, it just stopped. Sun came out, and it’s a lovely day! School was delayed a couple of hours to let the worst of it die off, so between the delayed school opening and the weather this morning, I didn’t go out to run until after 11, pretty late for me. Though the temp was pretty nice, once the sun comes out and the wet roads start steaming, it is like running through a sauna. Kept the pace pretty easy, but honestly it was a harder run than I have had in a while. The heat/humidity combo immediately makes me feel like I have made no progress over the winter. Guess it’s time to adjust to that.
Edit to add that I actually did the PT exercises today. Glutes. It was hard. I also did the second half of another video last week but don’t remember the day. I definitely have some weakness on the right, related to what I believe was a meniscal tear a couple of years ago. I had a lot of pain walking stairs, doing lunges or squats, or really any movement where my right leg was taking the majority of my weight if my knee was bent (which happens frequently with climbing). As a result, I kind of babied it, probably too much. It even altered the way that I walked stairs. While I’ve been focusing on moving that knee more normally, and the pain is largely gone, now I get some patellar tendon burning pain that I think is related to weakness from that injury. Hopefully this will help.4 -
I heard from my nieces. They are both ok. The one in Round Rock spent some time in the bathtub with her Labradoodle and a mattress over them. Sounds like a tight fit 😧
Did 7 miles on the treadmill this evening for PT.
It didn't feel as easy as the past few times for some reason. It finally felt good after 5 miles, so cruised for another 2.

@quilteryoyo, I think I am going to do the level 2 plan. Also, enjoy your new watch. Hopefully, it will learn your sleep pattern soon. I also have a hard time sleeping when I have a change in schedule.
@polskagirl01, That is great that you are able to help some of the refugees. You’re awesome.
@eleanorhawkins, You’re such a badass with all of those mountain races!
Awesome job on your half, @katharmonic!
I wish I could love treadmills, @Scott6255!
Yesterday I ran the Cherry Blossom Road Race Quarter Marathon as part of our city’s week long Cherry Blossom Festival. There were about 300 people running the 5K and 106 in the Quarter Marathon. I ended up finishing 49/106. My pace again remained pretty consistent as my last two races. The course had several looooong hills, but overall it was a nice course, partially through a residential neighborhood, and the remainder on some rural roads. All quarter marathon finishers received a medal.
I’ll start on my 80/20 5K plan tomorrow. I’m excited to try something new to mix up my training.
Nice racing, congrats!0 -

Hopefully, we’ll hear from @kgirlhart today to make sure her family is alright after the storms. Glad the rest of you are ok. The line is supposed to come through here in a couple of hours, and while we have moderate chances for strong winds and tornadoes per this morning’s news, I don’t think it is anywhere near as bad as yesterday.
I went to my Pump class last night. I hope to run this evening if the storms have passed through.2 -

I'm sorry I didn't update yesterday. I realized I hadn't done it when I was going to bed, but I was tired and decided to wait until today.
I'm glad your nieces are both OK @scott6255. My daughter lives in Austin, but she is almost in Round Rock. She said the tornado hit about a mile or two from where she lives. She didn't realize it was as bad as it was until the next day, but she was without power for several hours. I'm glad all the Texans made it through the storms and I hope that anyone else getting bad weather will be OK.
Yesterday's run was cold and still windy. But all in all it was a nice 5 mile run.
Today was another chilly 5 miles. It wasn't as windy as yesterday though. And it was a pretty good run. I did see a dead dog in the side of the road though which always makes me sad. There was no collar though so he may not have belonged to anyone.
Great job on your race @marisap2010

@marisap2010 the cherry blossoms are beautiful!
Glad to hear everyone and their families checked in ok from the storms.
@rheddmobile I was pretty nervous about the half too. Definitely noticing being out of condition and carrying a little more weight right now so I am getting a bit more motivated to work on that. For one thing I signed up for another Spartan race coming up in June!
But alas, I didn't run today or yesterday, both trying to recover a little more and being very busy with work.5 -

I got out before daylight this morning and got to watch the world come alive. The sun rose and the birds were flying around and chattering up a storm. It was 47F but a cold wind was blowing. I did a yoga workout before heading out the door to warm up and stretch my muscles. In an ideal world, I would have had time to do more after the run, but alas, I must work for my paycheck so I can pay for race entries and new shoes and travel….all the necessities!
Great job getting your PT in @martaindale.
Glad you nieces are ok @Scott6255 and that you and your family are also safe from the storms @kgirlhart.
Beautiful picture of Dresden @Aine8046.
Hope the storms weren’t bad for you @marisap2010. Love the picture of the cherry blossoms – beautiful!
@katharmonic – where is your June Spartan race? I know you work hard for those races but seem to have a great time on the course also.
