Happy Monday!
It was seriously grey and drizzly this morning, but the sun is back out now. Riding will happen!
Here I am with the lovely young fella after his first ride under an English saddle. He was a champ. Even walked through some big puddles, survived a startle instigated by my daughter's horse, and enjoyed his carrot snack.
@MoonlitMuse I am hearing your song. For the past few months, when I am at home (where I usually excel at keeping my routines, getting the exercise done, eating well, working on stuff, etc.), I just can't get motivated a lot of the time. It might be a bit of depression, lack of social contact, or maybe boredom. In any case, it is a pain to slog through and hard to instigate change. When I get home the 25th, I hope it does not fall back into that pattern, but if so - we can try being "get 'er done" buddies and keep each other up to the workouts or whatever daily thing we need help with. I'm not sure what this brain fatigue is, but hopefully we can kick it!
Have a good one, all! I'm armed with carrots and heading out to hang with the big guys.8 -
Love the pic Jugar
@PlaneMonkey great job so far with the landscaping. Moving any kind of rocks and dirt is a lot of work
@MoonlitMuse hope you are up and running soon

I'm all over the map with my weight. Had a great weekend where we pulled out the smoker and cooked a brisket. Was amazing and nice to see winter is almost over6 -
Lovely photo @jugar, he has a kind eye
@PlaneMonkey it's looking great. Have you got many more big projects planned after this one?
We're planning to give the back garden some attention this year. We are planning to get a pergola with retractable roof, and an outdoor corner sofa. I have a climbing rose which is running rampant, and want to redirect it up an arch. I'm currently in the middle of building a raised bed at the allotment and enjoying my project, so I'm half tempted to DIY an arch but will have to price up the cost of wood as I've found a nice one for £180. Long term I think the roses (I am down to 5 now) might go completely as they don't really suit our plans for the garden, but for now, this climber is my absolute favourite of all our plants.
Here's a perfect bloom from last year!
In other non-garden-related news... nope, nothing interesting.

@jugar your boy is gorgeous! Remind me again of what he is. Also - aren't English saddle so comfy? I used to poo-poo on English riders because I thought they were stuck up (admittedly, the ones I knew actually were!) but after I tried an English in lieu of my usual heavy AF western and Australian saddles, I was sold!
And I am so glad (in a way) that I'm not the only one! I feel so hypocritical being a dietitian and health coach. I'm always finding ways to get everyone else out of their funks, but I can't manage to do it for myself! Isn't it interesting how impactful our environment is on our routines? I can empathize with literally everything you said! I'm all for being 'git 'er done" buddies! For me, it's getting my butt out of my office and into the gym even when I'm not feeling super inspired.
(so far, so good...I did 30mins of upper body lifting since my inner thigh said no to anything else. I'll get in about 30mins of asana practice in a bit as well to see if I can help it recover a little quicker)8 -
@PlaneMonkey
You live on such a cool property. You two have put so much amazing work into the place... no better way to get a sweat than some good old fashioned work.
Unfortunately I'm not handy, and wouldn't know where to start with any of those projects, but you do such a great job!7 -
Looking great @jugar
And the horse too
Sounds like this trip is off to a great start already, keep having a blast!!4 -
I got my butt back to exercise in a serious way the last two days and my muscles are feeling in (in the best way)
I love that "just sore enough I'm well aware of what I did" type of muscle fatigue. No injury, nothing wrong.. just a gentle reminder every time I move that progress occurred
Work is still something else... but I haven't just had all bad days, I am looking for the ways to make it work. I was craving salad and made a huge bowl of it tonight.. love the volume eating of it and it was tasty!! Must be spring cravings...8 -
Hi everyone! A few more hurdles complete today. My daughter and family moved out today and are ready to start their lives in their cute, cozy new home. Tomorrow, hubby and I get the keys to our new house. The closing will be pretty simple as we have already signed most of the papers. I have boxes of treasures and household stuff ready to load in the car in the morning. Took the day off from work. With all this packing, my steps are looking good. My eating is well under control even with the stress. It's kind of amazing. I definitely don't eat the way I used to eat. Salad for lunch with some good protein in it. I ordered a hamburger for dinner, but ended up giving my son in law 1/2 of it because I was too full to eat it. Mindful eating - check! Good food choices - Check! I didn't drink much water during the school day but finished my bottle later. Need more water now. Thank you all for being part of my journey. I'm not where I want to be but the weight I put on in the last year is slowly, but surely coming off. I will be under 200 by my birthday in June!!! Only slightly more than 3 pounds to go.
Thanks for all your support friends. It means the world to me,
Love the photos of your lives. Liselyn you and your horse are adorable! Courtney, your projects are amazing!! Love your house. Someday I will figure out how to get photos on again and post some. It just won't post from my phone anymore.
Off to bed I go dreaming of my new garden in my new home. xoxo7 -

I had another good ride today - lots of trotting for the young monsieur - lots of posting for me! I managed to hit the good weather part of the day and get a good riding workout. Tonight I gave a breathing workshop for a bunch of army guys. They really liked it, and we'll continue in a few days after they have a chance to practice the variety of exercises I gave them. It is so interesting to see how serious breath control can benefit people other than musicians I have never taught a breathing control and strength class to non-musicians, so it will be fun to work on applications in the next class.
OK gang - no Tuesday weigh-ins! Move rocks, grow gorgeous roses, move and eat well!6 -
Another day, another salad (or two!) consumed.
I actually had meals out, both for lunch and for dinner. The dinner salad is healthier than the lunch salad, but they were both reasonable... and I'm just craving the light crispness of fresh veggies. Going with it while I can.
@micki48
It is so wonderful to hear so many good things are happening right now for you and your family. The ebbs and flows, eh...
I have no doubt you'll reach your goal by your birthday. There is something to be said for stress and its negative effects, as I see some of your worst stressors melting away there is a lightness coming back to you. Really happy to see it.
Last call for steps from Apr 9-15 for anyone left who wants to report!4 -
@micki48 I am loving your news and renewed energy. It has been some year! Here's to your return to Onederland in time for your birthday
I had another lovely Alberta day - some walking, some hanging out with my daughter and her pals, riding Jasper, feeding carrots to all 3 of our 4-legged beasties (including the ever hilarious mule Emmett ), and enjoying the big sky well into the late evening.
And now - it will be time for the Wednesday line-up in short order! Let's celebrate the mid week in style:

I've been doing a lot more strength training and I can tell I'm building muscle which is great! I'm starting to see my body becoming more toned, which is what I really needed after losing 20 lbs. I still would like to get down closer to 140, but I'm not worried about it right now.7 -
So projects will have to slow down and a bit as I'm included in the federal workers strike that's currently in progress in Canada. Being on strike will definitely affect the budget for a bit.
I walked the picket line for nearly 4 hours today in winter-like conditions. I didn't bring a chair with me thinking at my fitness level I should be ok to walk the entire time, especially since it helped to keep warm, but after 2 hours my hips started to ache. I took a seat from a friend who offered, and sat for 30 minutes but the wind tore right through all my winter gear and I froze solid! I'm at home now and have spent 30 minutes in the hot tub and another 15 in a hot shower and I still feel chilled. I'm hoping a short nap and a snuggle with a cat will bring me back to my normal perky self in time for Tabata class tonight.
With all the upheaval on the strike I haven't been making good food choices since portability of snacks and timing of meals are bigger concerns at the moment than the content.
Hopefully after this nap I can reset and figure out a better game plan to get through tomorrow's 'long walk'

@PlaneMonkey - you are brave to hit the picket lines today! The entrance to my daughter's military base was home to a big picket line today, also in the worst weather of the past week. Cold, windy, and snowy. All of the civilian employees from the base are on strike, and they had quite a good crowd going, but with orderly entrance to the base maintained, even if it was slow. The soldiers generally support the strike, even though they cannot strike themselves. I hope that things warm up soon! Tabata class ought to get at least some of your blood nice and hot
My horse and I are taking a quiet day today - we had a harder workout yesterday, and since he is still young and has not worked all winter, I just walked around in the field with them, got mugged for the carrots I was holding, and generally hung out.
So glad you're building up muscles and feeling strong @alydanbeads ! The next few pounds can just wait a bit.5 -

Another gain this week, sorry team. I think this is partly because totm is 2 days late, plus I ate a lot of fibre yesterday, which hasn't worked its way through yet. My food tracking has been bad this week, I'm fine up until the evening, but then I have a beer or some unplanned snack, which I know will take me over my calorie goal so I don't bother logging for the rest of the day. Luckily, I'm not going into full-on binge mode, but I'm more likely just eating at maintenance. I have been putting a lot of effort into getting my daily steps up, exceeding my target of 8500 on most days. I have also been weight training 5 days in the last week, as per usual, so at least I'm keeping my activity up. I'm getting to a point where I can't imagine losing any more weight, as much as I need to, I feel like I'm stuck at my set point (although I'm not sure I actually belive in set points). My maintenance is around 1500 calories a day, that's with keeping my steps above 8500 and weight training 5/7 days. I have a calorie goal of 1200, but it's becoming really hard to stick to without feeling really tired all the time. One challenge I'm finding really tricky is avoiding alcohol. My husband is having quite a stressful time at work at the moment and likes to relax by going to the pub or getting some drinks in, which I always end up joining in with. I can say no to chocolate any day of the week, but saying no to a drink I find really really difficult. Something I absolutely have to change if I want my weight loss to stick.5 -
Thank you all for your support! I got a call back from the dietitian, and we’re scheduled to meet in May. 😊
Tonight, I’m meeting up with one of my oldest friends who is visiting their parents and we’re grabbing dinner and drinks after work. I’m not going to drink tonight because I signed up for a spin class tomorrow morning and don’t want to feel “blah” after drinking. It’ll also be my first time working out this week since Monday because I had a strained muscle in my upper back that has finally sorted itself out thanks to pain relievers and a massage tool.
Happy Pre-Friday everyone!5 -
