Yesterday was good, but I am exhausted. I am not even sure why, I sleep well. I think maybe I am limiting my food too much. So today for lunch I am going to order something yummy with lots of protein and healthy fat.8

Good morning, WAs!! Just checking in. My water yesterday was ok. I reported that I got on my mat, which was a win, but I did not log. Spent many hours working in the yard and garage. Then some errands. My foot has decided to join my long list of hurts. I wouldn't be surprised if it has some connection to my hip that has been hurting. It's the opposite side and I'm sure my slightly limpy gate has something to do with it. It comes and goes and feels better with real supportive sneakers rather than my usuall summer flip flops. It's sort of my heel. I'm thinking plantar faciatis (sp?)
In my effort to get back on track, back on the wagon, etc. I came across a nutrition class through my health plan website. It's really good. I've completed the first lesson. Here are my takeaways for you to also think about if you wish.
What are a few strengths of your current eating pattern?
What are a few weakpoints?
It went on to say when trying to improve your diet start by ADDING to your diet rather than taking away aka deprivation. So add more fruits and vegetables, wholegrains etc. Then, once you have done that swap something you have been eating for something better. For example, instead of soda maybe seltzer. Next, eliminate or reduce something else that's not so great in your current eating pattern. But their bottom line was important to help us not beat ourselves up over lack of motivation or discipline. Many of the processed foods we eat are engineered to make us want to eat more and more of it. Some are even made to melt in your mouth quickly so your brain wants more and thinks it hasn't had enough calories, but you end up with too many calories. Not every company in the food industry is like that, but some are and it's worth noting that it's not just our inability to have discipline.
I need to get moving but some of my current strengths of my eating pattern are no soda, eating plenty of fruit, eating just a little red meat. My weakpoints are probably too much sugar and high fat snacks, eating out too often, and maybe needing more protein.
How about you?6 -

Sunday, July 30th - 7,259 steps, 1.61 mile run in 90 degree Fahrenheit temps
Monday, July 31st - no steps recorded - I forgot my Fitbit, but I was also sick this day - heat exhaustion from the day before
Tuesday, August 1st - 5,259 steps, 15 minute walk, 15 minutes of shooting hoops
Wednesday, August 2nd - 7,728 steps, 1 hour of spinning, 15 minutes of shooting hoops, 1 hour of CrossFit
Thursday, August 3rd - 8,703 steps, 1 hour of CrossFit (6.5 hours of driving)
Friday, August 4th - 11,588 steps, 45 minutes on the elliptical, (8 hours of driving)
Saturday, August 5th - 10,691 steps, 2 mile run down and back up the side of a mountain (camping)
I drove the 1,800 miles roundtrip with my mom and her pug to go camping in remote Eastern Oregon with my family. We do this trip every year to pick huckleberries. We call it huckleberry camp. This year I planned ahead to get some workouts while I was there. I did the elliptical at the hotel gym on the way up and one run while I was at camp. However, I have not had a workout since then. Also, I was unable to log much of anything because I had at best one bar of service during the trip.
We got back on Tuesday and I was out with a bad, weird for me migraine yesterday (hence why I didn't do the weigh-in until today). Usually migraines for me feel like I have an ice pick in my head and everything I try to do (even verbally answering a question) causes so much pain that I throw up. Yesterday, I just had extreme light sensitivity and everything was blurry/had an aura around it. No ice pick, no vomiting. Still a migraine. I'm glad to be back at work today with the stressors of that trip behind me. Now, I just need to get back to logging my meals and find some workouts to do.7 -
@micki48 that is great you were able to go to a nutrition class! My aunt lost a lot of weight by just adding veggies and fruit to her diet. It made her full so she didn't want to eat the bad stuff.
That doesn't always work for me, because no matter how full I am, I could always eats sweets. I think thats my major weakness. We had frozen yogurt with yummy toppings at work yesterday and I definitely indulged 😝 Free food and wasting food is my major downfall. I could only imagine if I had kids how much heavier I would be from eating crusts, etc.
Strengths for me are eating lots of protein, fruits, and veggies. I eat similar meals, which helps me get into a routine.
Great thinking today!5 -
@micki48 Two strengths of my current eating patterns are: 1. I am gluten intolerant so avoiding certain bad foods is really easy for me. 2. I have a pretty set routine that is easy to stick to when I am at home.
#2 leads me to a weakness - no pattern when my schedule changes. I tend to overeat, drink, and make poorer choices overall when my schedule changes. Like when I travel.
Another weakness is that my normal weekly pattern doesn't leave a lot of room for any indulgences which can make me way overindulge on the weekends.
The last weakness would be my instigator husband. I love him and he is happy that I am doing what I need for my health, but he regularly asks me if I want beer, ice cream, or unhealthy meals because we didn't have time to prep nor the energy to cook. I can only turn him down so many times before I give in.2 -

Hope I have my prior weight right, because 1.7 lbs feels great for this week! I did start a medication for binge-eating and I think it is working? I definitely don't feel any effects from the stimulant component - no jitters or jolt of energy and still yawning in the afternoon, which my sister (a neurobiologist who works as a medical writer these days) says is a pretty clear sign that I have ADHD, as people with ADHD don't feel big effects from stimulants, if at all. However, I think I have noticed an effect from the appetite suppression component. Not as hungry in the morning or by lunch. Of course, the med does wear off by dinnertime so I've been pretty much on target for calories. And still getting good movement in - just did a 15 min butt-focused resistance band workout before I start packing up and loading the car.
Caught up on our posts here as well and we have a lot of renewal going on it seems!
This weekend is a big family reunion I have been planning since January and it was a ton of work but happy it is finally here. I am a total spreadsheet nerd so I was delighted to set up yet another tab in my master file for the weekend, focused on who bought what items for our shared meals and activities, and who owes who what.
Didn't have a great week with my foot/tendonitis though. Wish I could figure it out/have more time to just not walk for a few days? But really, how would that be possible.4 -
I made it to my yoga class in the forest this morning. We had our class out on the verandah. It was so lovely to be practising out in the sun, listening to the forest. So restorative.
@Gidgitgoescrzy thanks for the heads up on the joys of having a puppy in your life. Hubby and I are vacillating between deciding on a puppy or a young dog from a rescue home. I think we'll go for a rescue dog, just like our dearly departed Edie.
@Antonia2050 We have been aghast at the current news coverage showing the tragic fires engulfing your gorgeous island. I hope you are keeping safe.
@EvMakesChanges Your volunteering work, delivering meals is wonderful. It is sad to know that it is necessary. My husband volunteers for our local foodbank too.
Bed beckons.
Night night all.

Quite the news fest! It is great to hear about all the things, from puppies to dietary reflections to migraines. And yoga in the forest wearing spectacular leggings. Watch out, though @Kali225 - now that I know you are a spreadsheet whiz, I may enlist you for help sometimes! I'll bet your well-planned family reunion will be a blast this weekend.
So let's get ready for the big Friday weigh-in day! Here it is - including a couple that have not come in yet from pre-Friday:

Thanks!4 -
@MaddawgMadsen I hear you on that instigator. My motto is 'I have enough willpower for one person, I don't have it for two!' it's so hard not to give in, and when they hit you with those sighs or puppy dog eyes when you say 'you go ahead, but I don't want any' so then they feel guilty... Ohh the joys.
Hockey tonight was good, but I tweaked my thumb a few times so that wasn't wise. I'm wearing the brace my physio recommended to restrict movement of the joint thats out of alignment but some of those ladies were very firm on their sticks tonight and I tried to keep up.
I've upped my fibre, drank a reasonable amount of water, didn't go out after the game for popcorn n beer but I did bake and consume cupcakes for my upcoming birthday this weekend. Minor overindugences have happened this week but most of the damage will happen after my weigh in tomorrow and I will turn the wagon back around Sunday and rein it back in by next week, I swear.
@micki48 I like the idea of adding foods instead restricting, it's finding high volume low calorie things you like to add in that can slowly push out those other items that can trigger overconsumption. So smart!

Thankfully, the fire that was on the Big Island, where I live, is contained. It was predominantly pasture land, and only a few upcountry outlying buildings were damaged.
The fire damage on Maui is horrific. Each island now has strategic donation points for basic items to be taken to Maui. Southwest air, Hawaiian air, and United are all pitching in to bring people off of Maui to Honolulu or back to mainland destinations. Many return flights are empty so that donations can be taken over. The same goes with our local freight companies. Shipping containers are being filled and taken over as I type this.
It’s quicker for inter islands to respond than to wait for immediate help from the mainland.
Keep us in to our thoughts. My family and I are safe and doing okay

@Antonia2050 So glad to hear that you and your family are okay; we continue to keep you in our thoughts.
Today I've already had a meeting with our accountant and spent a bit of time uploading some resources for my apprentices. Later this afternoon, I plan to update my website - it always takes longer than I originally think it should, but I hope to get a good portion of it done today.
Fish and chips for supper tonight!5 -
Glad to hear you're safe @Antonia2050!

I'm ok with this weigh in, it's better than last week but I still need to be more consistent going forward if I ever hope to see the 180s again.
I was just commented to a friend that September is around the corner and all of my exercise activities will ramp back up so hopefully my cardio will improve. I've noticed my endurance at hockey is not as good as it was in May. Looking forward to November when should be past the initial pain of reconditioning and can enjoy the benefits.
Off to shop the clean my house for today's birthday party!5 -

@Antonia2050 So glad to hear you and your family are safe. What terrible devestation!
@DianaGetsFit512 WAY TO GO DIANA! Down a pound! You are awesome!! Keep up the good work.
@PlaneMonkey Happy Birthday!!! Have a wonderful time!
@YinxFed Sounds like your day is productive! Love the forest Yoga photo. It would be so fun to do yoga with all of you.
@jugar I had an early morning surprise. Three small (deadish) trees came down in our yard from the rain last night. I hopped on the scale quickly as I was pulling on my clothes and it was 211 something maybe .2 but I can't quite remember. I will try again tomorrow and if it happens to be better or worse I will let you know. Can't remember what last week's weigh in was either.
Speaking of trees coming down in my yard...I had a great workout using a handsaw cutting them up as much as I could. I got 46 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of fat burn in addition to 54 minutes below zone (picking up sticks probably). That's the kind of workout I like!!!! I may be feeling it tomorrow, but felt very accomplished!

@Antonia2050 So, so, so happy to hear you are safe! I had the pleasure of visiting Maui in 2017 with my mom, a good friend, and her mom. These fires are heartbreaking!
Since I went camping this weekend somewhere I did not have service, I was not able to participate in the team meeting for the upcoming relay race. I ended up getting the hardest leg in the entire race. I don't think they realize I haven't trained much in the last year. Oh well, they will get from me what they get - slow, but will finish the race.
The one advantage I have is that I live at 6,200 ft elevation. The highest elevation I will see on my legs is 1,500 ft. It will be so easy to breathe!
@jugar I am safely training as much as I can for the race because I also do not like injuries. And, I promised my mom that I would be5 -
Yesterday was good, today is going well also.
I went to acupuncture this morning, and as I was driving back to work, I got this horrible pinch in my belly... She left a needle there, and I guess I somehow pushed it in further... For such a little needle that really hurt... LOL
I think I will do some exercise tonight, I kind of fell off that wagon when the puppy came to visit, then I got some tummy issues that lasted a few days. DO NOT INCREASE YOUR FIBER TOO QUICKLY, ITS PAINFUL !
I think @YinxFed has inspired me. and I will go to a yoga class tomorrow morning before the pool. The high temps and humidity are back as of today, so indoor stuff only, unless it's the pool.
@Antonia2050 Glad you and your family are safe.
@PlaneMonkey HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Have a great weekend! See you lovelies on Monday

Thank you for the kind words. It will be a long road of recovery for Maui
As for me … I discovered a lactose free milk sold in 14 oz (414ml) size! Just enough for that milk craving I get and the taste is good.
Small win for me.
I’m down a pound and firmly believe it is because I am no longer eating the sodium laden delicious food my family prepared for the parties.
