Well I’ve had 76 years of practice 😌. I have learned that preparation early makes for a more pleasant experience for me. I want to savor the holidays and be fully present rather than stress about what isn’t done - or perfect.
And for me stress leads to bad eating!2 -
I don't disagree with that but you're still terrifying me 🤣2

Gym this morning. Then some curtain and window washing. I’m pooped! 🪣🧽
It was 86 degrees today. Summer just keeps coming back! I’m ready for some semblance of FALL. There’s hope for later this week 🤞.

It has been one heck of a week over here. Temp changes from highs in the 80 on Monday and Tuesday to a high in the low 50 yesterday and today. Grrrrr. I have been doing a ton of stuff everyday and I am TIRED! I left the house yesterday at 8 and didn't get home until almost 10 pm. Today is an easier day full of paperwork but I am back at it tomorrow. My troop is hosting a Merit Badge Summit for the district. I am the person that checks people in so I have to be there super early and spend all day helping out. I don't mind it but I am ready for some relaxation!
I haven't been posting but I have been reading. I have been entertained by ChipItGate in the food thread! lol2 -

I can sympathize with your weather Scout! We had three days over 85 and today barely got to mid 50s. And rain too ⛈️.
I remember those busy pre-retirement days of work, doing for others and very little (none!) of ME time. Hang in there. It seems like forever now but it goes by so quickly.
Hey - where’s our man PAV? And any doctor news from Laurie?

You and I are close to the same weather pattern. I’m not far from TX.
We have a movie day planned for Sunday. I’m not doing anything!1 -
And where’s our Connie? How’s Nic doing after surgery? Did Athijade get to enjoy her Asian meals? And and and - everyone else out there! 👋1

Movie day sounds perfect - no matter the weather!
I'm still in a bit of limbo on the medical front. Did get my drain out Wednesday this week - and that was tougher than expected. It had been in too long I think - it did not want to leave. An second experienced - somewhat fierce nurse at the clinic finally came in to help the nurse who had just about given up on getting it out. She told me to breathe like I was having a baby and she pulled that sucker out. Otherwise, the first nurse was sending me to the ER to get it removed
Saw my oncologist on Wednesday too. She is not certain on the next steps. The post mastectomy pathology showed 11 tumours of Estrogen / HER2 positive invasive cancer. But they were very small tumours. The estrogen blocking treatment is off the table - because I'm 60, post menopausal, that type of cancer is slow growing, and the treatment is hard on your joints. To me the benefits don't seem worth the risk, she agrees.
But the HER2 is aggressive and fast growing, normally treated with Chemo - but the tumours are small - so are the benefits worth the risks???? She is uncertain so she sent my case to a local tumour board. Hopefully I will hear a "definitive" answer this coming week. If it is still uncertain apparently they can send info to an international Harvard group to make final recommendations??????
All the numbers seems really small - I'm not certain I want to go through chemo if the difference is pretty insignificant????
My chest is healing - but after the initial "this is much easier than I thought" - it is more problematic than I thought Scar tissue feels like a ridiculously tight ratchet strap around my tissue - I need massage - but had to have the drain removed first and to have that opening heal up. Soon. Soon. Oh to be the other side of all of this.
Me and the pup are walking, eating, cuddling in bed watching House these days.3 -
So much to deal with Laurie! 🥺. At least the drain is out now and you can slowly work the scar to loosen it up a bit. I know that oncologists are being more cautious about aggressive chemo.
Sometimes the cure is worse than the problem! I’ve seen studies that show a wait and watch method is much more positive for the patient. Much like the approach for men with prostate cancers. Less can be more in the long run.
The hell is the worry and hoping to have it all go away and get back to “before”. Time eventually sorts everything out….1 -
It will.
The worst part is that there is no screening to know whether or not the cancer has "returned" - if it does HER2 positive tends to metastasize to the bones or the brain and you can only tell once you start having symptoms 😳 that's enough to encourage you to feel more inclined towards chemo?2 -
I'm sure that I will stop worrying about it in a couple of years once I get past this stage 🙂🤞🏻1

It’s a tough place to be Laurie. Hopefully there will be frequent monitoring.0

I'm looking forward to finding a calm spot to get back to weight loss! That is coming soon (fingers crossed).1

Don’t rush it Laurie! All in good time.1

I have booked an appointment with a dietician/nutrionist in December. Hopefully by then I'll be ready

Okay, so today was the big day. I had to be at the hospital at 7am. Surgery was supposed to be at 9am. Dr was late showing up, so it was more like 10am. I rolled to recovery about 11:15,discharge area around 12:15. Immediately was able to drink 2 oz of water (slowly in little sips) and walk and pee. I discharged at 1pm.
I'm doing good. Have been doing my walking every hour, except when I took a fat nap (as my kids would say), from about 2-4 lol. I'm at 5500 steps, I'm tolerating fluids well (25oz in tiny sips), very little pain except for gas pangs from the laproscopy. The incisions are tender to the touch (I have 5),but otherwise do not hurt. Contemplating jello

Wow everything is out patient surgery now! I remember my mother-in-law telling me how she spent two full weeks in the hospital after each of her 4 sons were born. I’ve had several surgeries- and like you- all were out patient. Even when I had my hand tendons resectioned. Of course, spending the night in the hospital can’t be as restful as your own bed.
Glad you’re doing well Nic ❤️🩹1 -
Hopefully everything continues as smoothly!1

So good to read your update, Nic! Hope you get a good night sleep and wake up feeling that much closer to becoming thin!!! 💕1

Well it's day 2. No more gas pains, got some low grade muscular pain all through the abdomen, but also my right shoulder, both hips and the top of both thighs, etc. The biggest one of my incisions (1" maybe) is black and blue, but that's normal. No pain medicine (narcotics or otherwise), no nausea medicine. Another day of clear liquids, then tomorrow I introduce full liquids (ie protein shakes).
Ended up getting in 3 miles of post-op walking yesterday (just circles around the house) and 40oz of fluid, plus 1 4 oz jello.3 -
Sounds like you are in a great groove! Good work, Nic.

Wow sounds like you are doing great post op. Glad things are working out so easily. I was amazed at how little pain I had post surgery. I was up and back to normal within a few days. Crazy that they removed an organ and I was ready to be back in less than a week.2

My big thing today is muscular soreness. I'm sore and stiff from my neck to my knees. I took a nap on the sofa and it was a bit of a struggle to right myself after lol. Otherwise, I'm at 7k steps, shooting for 8 or so, still time to finish, and tolerating fluids and jello well. Still no narcotics or nausea meds.5 -
You are doing incredibly well. What a strong determined person you are!1 -
So glad to hear that the surgery went smoothly and so far recovery has been good Nic!2

You’re an Amazon warrior princess Nic! 🧝♀️🏅2

Another boring update. Finished my (hopefully) last clear liquid day. Couple of sugar-free jellos, 40oz of water/liquid, over 10k steps. Still sore basically all over and my incisions are starting to itch. No narcotics, no nausea meds.
Tomorrow is the start of full-liquid diet. I prepped some sugar-Free butterscotch pudding today with fairlife skim milk and a scoop and a half of unflavored protein, then portioned it into 6 tiny containers. Plan tomorrow is pudding for breakfast and supper, a chocolate protein shake for lunch with some decaf coffee concentrate added. Works out to about 45 grams of protein, but I don't want to jump from basically nothing at all the 70-80 grams I am reccomended.
Slow and steady is my mantra right now. I want good healing and a good outcome. If I am tolerating everything we'll, I might try a cup of chicken bone broth as well.5
