Home a little early since I had to see the eye doctor this afternoon. Seriously considering a nap but afraid it will throw my whole night off.

Was on the treadmill this morning, watching TV and zoning out, and realized I did 1.25 miles instead of my usual 1 mile. That was pretty cool. I'm happy with the morning treadmill habit. Seems to start my day off better and helps with stress.

Nanc, hope your work potluck was fun.

Only did half a mile this morning because I overslept a bit. But I still got in over 6000 steps for the day. I have a very reasonable goal of 5000 steps a day so anything over that is a big win. I can't even with 10,000 steps. I sit at a desk at least 9 hours a day! At least my job does have some moving around to get files, make copies, greet clients when the receptionist isn't there, etc. I am not totally sedentary.

Met with a personal trainer at my new gym tonight and decided to sign up for 4 sessions with her so I can get a plan together, and then I think I'll likely schedule with her once a month to progress. I'm most interested in strength training and she's a power lifter so she's totally into helping me get strong.

Other than that, not much going on here. I'm going to do some prepping this weekend. Roast some potatoes, make the delayed lentil soup. Laundry, a little housework, and work of course. SO much to do. The end of the year, as y'all know who know me, is crazy.

Kohl's is having a big sale today so I am going to try to motivate myself to go tonight. I need new pillows and want to get a couple new pairs of pants for the gym. I have plenty of tees but only a couple pants and they are pretty shabby.

Today is all about work and laundry. Lots of bedding and towels to catch up. I'll get soup made tomorrow. Hoping to get rid of 3 or 4 files that have been hanging over my head this weekend so I need to be pretty disciplined about staying at my desk.

I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to check in this weekend...all about family. Niece and her fam are visiting from Houston for TG.

<3 Today is my appointment with the plant-based cardiologist. I will give you a report.

Great job on the TM, Mihani. And good for you for concentrating on strength training! That is the area I need to work on as well. I am always just doing cardio.

The food for this weekend was fine. I am just no longer going to stress about my sister and her not understanding was it means to be vegan. She still does not get it. Yesterday, she asked me if I didn't miss lamb chops. OUT of the blue, she asked, as she was preparing a ham for their dinner. LOL, I told her I did not miss anything. In the beginning, I thought I would miss her ribs. But I got over that fast after watching a few documentaries.

Then later, she asked me if I liked the Whipped Yogurts. I said, "Suzanne, I don't eat dairy. It's not that difficult to understand." Insert major eye rolls here. :s

    today...

    black coffee still!
    bean burrito
    salad
    broc and tofu stir fry
    ninja creami pumpkin ice cream

    living life deeeeeeeeeeeeliciously.

Today we're picking up our first order of plant based dinners! I think we set our normal pick up day as Tuesday but with Thanksgiving they changed it up this week. They came out with an a la carte TG menu, but we already bought a plant based roast. I forget what exactly is in this week's menu, but there's some sort of enchiladas and maybe a thai soup.

I bought a few sets of curtain lights and set them up in our dining area. It looks better in person but you get the idea. I'm thinking I'm going to keep them up all winter long to help offset the dark and dreary.

Our first Plantage meal was a 10 / 10! Squash & kale enchiladas with mexican slaw and cilantro lime rice (most of which is hidden in the pic). I gave some of mine to Joe and we were both full. And we're used to big portions. The slaw was fresh and tasty.

It reminds me of a Clean Food Dirty Girl recipe. Except with better portion control for us, and of course no cooking and minimal cleaning! Yay! I am pretty stoked by the first one. I hope the others are as good.

Glad you had fun with family, Nanc. How'd it go with the new doc?

Carla, that meal looks good! I wish I could find something around here that has fresh wfpb. I just haven't been that into the stuff that is shipped. It's edible but nothing special and very expensive. The lights look cheerful.

Busy/short week at work but taking Thursday and Friday off. Going to visit family out of town just overnight Thursday.

Still getting in a mile or more (almost) every morning. I do enjoy having about 3000 steps in before my first cup of coffee. Makes it easy to get to over 6000 steps by the end of the day. This morning I had to cut back to 2 mph for the last 10 minutes because my knee hurt.

The doctor was phenomenal... a couple of takeaways: If you're doing strength training along with cardio, you get an A+...if not, start. As we age, this is key to good overall health.

Most of your diet should be whole foods...some of you are exclusive to whole foods, so another A+ from my doctor. I told her 80% of my diet was whole, probably 20% processed...she was not that concerned. But read the label. She does not like a laundry list of ingredients. Another words, if it is processed, it should be with a short list of ingredients.

All of this lines up with the plant-based doctors we follow...she and her husband happen to be friends with Dr. Campbell. She has seen Dr. Esselstyn in person but does not know him, personally.

She has ordered more blood tests other than the usual ones we all get. I have the list on my phone and will post it later. ONE is the CRP number for inflammation in the body. Was that discussed at the beginning on Forks over Knives. Someone, whoever was narrating the film talked about that. I just can't remember what film.

What this group is about lines up perfectly with her philosophy...and you all would great marks if you saw her.

Beautiful lights in the dining room, Carla. Love the food...looks delish.

Great job on the steps, Mihani...and perfect timing, you meeting with a strength coach. YOU, for sure get an A+.

    today

    black coffee
    bean burrito
    broc and tofu
rice and left over spaghetti sauce.
    ninja creami

    living life deeeeeeeeelicously...

my blood pressure was perfect in the doctor office on the second try...after sitting for awhile. I do not know why they take it right when you enter the room. I am too hyped up.

    later, gang.

here are the 3 blood tests she has order and one CT scan:

A lipoprotein (a) test is used to get a better understanding of your risk for heart disease, stroke, and other blood vessel diseases. But it is not a routine screening test. Researchers are still studying how lipoprotein (a) levels affect health and when the test should be used.Aug 3, 2022

Apolipoprotein B-100 is a protein that helps carry fat and cholesterol through your body. It is also called apolipoprotein B or apoB, for short. Your body needs fat and cholesterol to produce hormones and keep your cells healthy. Despite being necessary, fat and cholesterol don't dissolve well in the blood.Oct 12, 2023

A homocysteine test is a blood test. It measures the amount of homocysteine, an amino acid in the body. The test is often used to diagnose vitamin B6, B9 or B12 deficiency. People with elevated homocysteine may have a higher risk for cardiovascular disease. In newborns, homocysteine testing can help diagnose a rare condition called homocystinuria.

Cardiac computed tomography (CT) for Calcium Scoring uses special x-ray equipment to produce pictures of the coronary arteries to determine if they are blocked or narrowed by the buildup of plaque – an indicator for atherosclerosis or coronary artery disease (CAD). The information obtained can help evaluate whether you are at increased risk for heart attack.

Posting these so you can get an idea how thorough my doctor is. She is a non-evasive cardiologist MD, whose philosophy is preventative medicine. She said food is medicine.

So jealous about your new doctor, Nanc. Thanks for sharing all of the info. I need to get on board with strength training!

Mihani, glad you are taking TG off and hanging out with your family! I'm with you, it feels great to get in a good amount of steps early on.

I had a doctor's appointment and some bad news - i have to see a kidney specialist due to the lab results. My cholesterol has gone way up too. Ugh. The only positive was my A1C is at 5.8 and was the last time too. That is a really good number.

I'm hugely motivated to turn those bad numbers around and have big improvements 6 months from now when I am tested next. Daily exercise, no sweets, wfpb food.

Glad you liked the new doc, Nanc. It's funny for me, I like strength better than cardio. I get bored doing cardio although I have a TV in front of the treadmill and that helps, and I started listening to audio books when I am outside walking.

Carla, hope it's nothing to worry about but glad you are getting it checked out. When will you see the specialist?

This has been a rough week and I'm glad it's short because I am worn out from the office already! I think we're going to bug out a little early tomorrow too, so I'll have a little time to myself before all the visiting over Thanksgiving. I love everyone we're going to see and it will be fun, but being around a lot of people and everyone talking at once tends to drain my mental energy quickly.

UP early to get kitchen in order to make a couple of things for TG dinner tomorrow. I work a regular shift today...8 - 6pm

Good luck with the specialist, Carla. Do let us know what is going on.

Hope your day goes fast, Mihani. I get that too many people wear you out. Me, too. Our TG will be small...sister and her husband, niece and her husband and daughter and me.

    Today, black coffee...still!

    bean burrito
    broc and tofu stir fry
    hippeas
not sure what else I have ... probably another naughty small snack.

I will say that broc and beans daily helps things move along ... and plus, they are both so good for you. Those beans keep you full and lower BP.

Off to work in the kitchen. Later, gang.

I'm pleased to report that yesterday's Plantage meal was also fantastic. Beans & Greens with some tempeh crumbles and vegan parm with a piece of garlic bread. Joe and I were both a little worried that a big bowl of beans and greens wouldn't be all that tasty but happily we were wrong.

I'm thinking about splitting my workout up into two for a while. I like to get it done early but my biggest meal is always dinner and I don't move much afterwards. I tried it out yesterday and did 1.5 miles in the morning and then another 1.5 miles after dinner. It is hard to do that evening one but it did wonders for my blood sugar levels which are elevated right now because I'm on steroids for inflammation in my sinuses.

This morning I have a dental cleaning and that's it for scheduled commitments this week. My in-laws are visiting my MIL's family in Oregon for TG, and my family celebrated in October for the Cdn thanksgiving, so Joe and I are staying home and have a holiday roast with sides.

I hope everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving! Safe travels!
