Yesterday was good, drs appt was non eventful, My bp was great it was 113/76 - so she said if I keep this up, we will talk about taking me off the meds all together, I got off the 2nd pill back in October. So only 1 more to go. Then I will have no daily prescription meds YAY !!!
I have an appointment for a facial tomorrow... They are myself care to myself. other than that, no real plans for the weekend. We have our last regular season football game on Saturday, but we are sitting all of our starters because we already clinched the #1 seed, and the Division title, so we aren't really playing for anything.
Have a great day !5 -

I'll be doing yoga today, and see how I feel about another walk. Tonight is takeout night (probably from my favorite Indian place which usually means a good lunch of leftovers tomorrow, too) and I saw that National Treasure is on Hulu now so that will be movie night this week!
This weekend, I'm doing a little shopping - my favorite store in the world, The Container Store, is on the list for some new year's organization in my room, as well as REI for new snowpants. And anything I buy, I am using my winnings from (drumroll) - winning my fantasy football league!!!!! WOOOOOO. My Packers are on the opposite end of the stress spectrum vs @Gidgitgoescrzy 's Ravens - if we win this weekend, we are IN the playoffs!! So I will be glued to that game.

We’ll see if I’m lower tomorrow. This is an average weight as there was lots of bouncing around. I can do better. First week back to work was hard.
Got a little sloppy logging yesterday. Doing better today. Exercise is so hard when you work a full day and it’s dark.
Will check back later.7 -

Michele - can you turn your statement about exercise after working around? Tell yourself that you get to exercise after a long day? A big glass of water, maybe a small snack, and some time on the mat just for you feels good when it's dark outside and you've been around all those kids all day. Walking outside? Yeah. A lot harder in the dark. I wish you longer days! They are coming but dang, they are slow getting here.

Happy Friday! I’ve had a great week with workouts. Tuesday was at home with live-time connection to the class at the gym (50-minute strength training session); Wednesday, I had 50 minutes in the therapeutic pool, which helped with tight glutes; Thursday in person at the gym, and another session this afternoon in the pool. I walked to work both yesterday and today. My food intake has improved to appropriate quantities most every day. Tonight, I had some lightly fried shrimp, coleslaw, and frites. The added crunch and salt tasted divine!
Now, I’m ready for wary sleep because I had a Covid booster this afternoon. Can’t wait to lie down and drift off!
I plan to do some more writing tomorrow.

@micki48 - I totally get what you mean. Leaving/logging off from work and it’s so dark outside makes me just want to change into pjs and go to bed. I’ve been signing up for classes at 6pm and treating them like an extension of my day so that I don’t let my brain psych me out from getting my workout in. I hope you find something to help motivate you!
Yesterday was another long work day. Out of 10 hours of work, I had only 1 hour of no meetings. Next week is also going to be busy, but it should slow down a little bit after that. My husband and I did a secret Santa with some friends and last night we all opened our gifts and guessed who our secret Santa was. I got a board game that I’ve been dying to own so I was so thrilled!
I have a yoga class in less than an hour, then we’ll go to the farmers market. I have my niece’s birthday this afternoon so I’ll only have a small piece of cake, and then dinner tonight with friends in an igloo. Have a great day everyone!5 -
@wishfuljune dinner in an igloo sounds very interesting! Take some pictures if able!
It's a rainy day here today. Went to the gym this morning and did the elliptical. My knee seems to be doing a little better, let's hope it continues. I am going to donate blood this afternoon, but otherwise not much excitement planned for this weekend.6 -

It has been a good 1st week of 2024 and I hope that those of you with hectic work schedules, children, illnesses, or any other difficulty have gotten through all right.
I am following along a 30-day alcohol free program from This Naked Mind, and they have talked about an interesting way to deal with cravings. This could apply to cravings for anything at all - any situation where our thinking just goes out the window and we have to have the thing whether we consciously decided to do so or not. We just want it, and damn the torpedoes. We reach for it anyhow.
Have a look if you need another tool in the box - a kind of fun one, at that. I'm putting it in spoiler so this post won't take up too much room!Even though the conscious mind has decided "Nope. We're not having ice cream (or whatever). It is not in my eating plan for the day, I know I cannot stop once I start, and I really don't like how I feel afterwards. It will derail my plans and intentions, making it harder to get to my goal. I'll be unhappy."
But at some point there is a craving. We have to have it! We deserve it! It will make us feel so much better! It will be so very delicious! This is our unconscious mind taking the path we have so nicely built for these situations over many years.
So TNM suggests that we see this conflict between our conscious and unconscious mind like this:
The thoughts craving the ice cream are like a small child (or 2!) in the back seat begging you to stop for ice cream. They really really want it. You (your conscious mind) are driving and say no, not today. You have all kinds of reasons. But children are like the best salespeople on the planet and they do not stop - they have an argument for every single reason you come up with and they do not give up.
So try: DUCK MODE! 🦆
When your craving is there whining at you, and the simple "no" is not working, tell it that you are going into Duck Mode. Everything the craving throws at you will simply run off of you like water off a duck's back. You won't listen to it, and you won't give in. Just announce "Duck Mode!", and the annoying cravings (or kids!) will soon give up because that means they cannot win. You are clear and decided, and the craving will subside. It will know it is impossible to win this one. It is only a thought, after all.
This is a way of "surfing the urge" - letting the urge happen, feel it, ride it, but don't do the thing. Wait for it to slowly subside, which it eventually will. Each time we succeed with getting through the craving, it gets a tad easier the next time.
I hope that is useful to anyone who needs it!6 -

Started the day with yoga with Adrienne for something different. It’s been a long time since I’ve done yoga. It’s very different from the Pilates I’m more use to. A lot of the same movements but slower. The pace is different. It was nice, but hard because I’ve been so inactive. I managed to exercise 4 times this week. That’s an improvement. Even if it was a challenge to get it done. If I can do that next week with a full week of school, I’ll be pleased.
Logging is a little sloppy as well as my eating. I don’t have the discipline I used to have. This may sound funny, but I think it’s my age. I just want to do what I want to do. 😂 I don’t want to restrict myself. @jugar Your article is right, my brain is telling me, “you deserve this.” But on the other hand, I also don’t want to be this heavy or unhealthy. I am not a binge eater. I have never eaten a container of ice cream or a sleeve of cookies, but I’m a social eater. Equate food with love and comfort. So to restrict it or do any restrictive diets has never been my thing. I enjoy it. I will confess I also had Burger King with my husband Friday and it tasted good. So, I know this is going to be harder. My metabolism has slowed down as I’ve aged and “I don’t care. I deserve it.” has increased.
I will try to be a little better this week. Progress over perfection. Today, I spent time doing art, which is a goal for the new year. It was fun. I really liked it. I’m not an artist but I can play. Here’s my piece. You can’t do it wrong.
More daylight this week than last week. Right? I joined the challenge. The Mystery partner
sounded fun. Have a good weekend.8 -
Got in an upper body workout last night. Nothing today. Was busy with quarantine tanks. They are almost ready for fish.
I had a total lack of motivation today. Little walking and that was it8 -

Happy January!
I’ve been on this weight loss journey most of my adult life, never quite ok with wherever my body actually is. I live in Vermont with my wife and 3 cats.
In November, I joined a gym program which is finally engaging the stuff between my ears! (KDR fitness = “Knowledge Driven Results”) I did an in person class, online-live class, and will get on a prerecorded class today plus I walked more several days and got to the pool (92-degrees really helps those post-excercise-aches!).
I’m starting to notice a positive shift in my thinking…an excitement to be happier in my body…that feels great! I’m finally getting a taste of what my sister has been talking about all these years. Thanks @jugar!
The snow is looking good so far.
Have a great first day of week 2 everyone!9 -

@EvMakesChanges that's great to start feeling the benefits of exercise! It makes you want to keep exercising to get that feeling again!
@micki48 I know how you feel. I get in those moods sometimes too. I find that having 3-4 days of eating good, up to a week can really change my mindset. I find that added sugars are a trigger to me and if I get in a long period of eating them, my rational thinking goes out the window. Aim for 1 perfect day, and then another.8 -

Last night the igloo dinner was a lot of fun! It also started lightly snowing while we were in it which made for a beautiful setting. A lot of the shops closed at 5 or 6pm last night so when we arrived there wasn’t much for us to do before our dinner reservation, so we ended up getting a drink. I had an espresso martini which was delicious. Then at dinner, I ordered a couple of small plates for myself and an apple margarita. Only two drinks for the week which is on par with my goal of reducing my alcohol intake.
We got some snow last night and into today but it’s not bad; maybe 5 inches. My spin studio cancelled all classes today so I’m a little bummed about not having that today. The husband and I will go out and shovel this morning so that’ll be my workout for the day, and then I’ll get some work done before we go to an afternoon hockey game.
I’ve signed up for a group fitness class, a yoga class, and a spin class for this upcoming week. Looking forward to it. 😊 Happy Sunday!7 -
Spoiler Alert!
We are the shining example of what a team can do This past week, we are the only team that collectively recorded a loss, and a fine one it was too! 19.9 pounds! We can stop lugging that danged car tire around now.
I know we had a couple of "big losers", but we also had the highest percentage of people "in the green". This, to me, is way more important than an impressive total loss. 54.5% in the green is a lovely number Hats off to all of you for getting the week started well!12 -
@wishfuljune 5" of snow would shut us down for a week! We rarely get that much snow, maybe once a season, but the plows can't keep up and they don't plow side roads/neighborhoods until the very end (could be days later).
Great job this past week team! Now let's keep it up!6 -
So, I've got sketchy internet but no wireless (tech bro must come to sort out whatever I did). Next step after getting properly hooked up is to move the computer from this cold porch to a warm room. Options are limited but I've decided on an unused bedroom. Will be much more comfortable to spend time on. And I caught up on posts, won't let it go so long next time, this is an ACTIVE group! Very inspiring and I relate to many of the comments/struggles.
@jugar I like the Naked Mind added tool - it's a mental image to add to my 'just say no' habit...'cause you know, once you cave in once to those toddlers begging for candy, they'll never not try again. Your goal of a year no alcohol is intriguing. I might aim for that but take it piece by piece, at the end of each month, assess and likely push myself for one more month until I get to the year. How great to have the indoor arena option for you and Jasper.
@zumbaforever -Once I've got my wireless connected to TV, I'll get on Fiton and figure out how to find you
@Gidgitgoescrzy Nice photo of your first day hike; hope your shins have fully recovered. I'll bet you do fine on your Ireland hike -you're training now and I'll bet they'll be a pretty big spread of walking speeds and who wants to walk in a small herd all the time anyhow?
@micki48 Good for you to do measurements; I regretted not doing that in 2020, now's the time to do it starting out in 2024, with big goals. And what luck to have such a beautiful large park so close by!
@Kali225 What kind of foot tendonitis did you have? both feet? I have had off and on pain on the TOP of my foot, internet searches sounds like tendonitis - likely from my worn out slip on merrells. With a few storms ahead of us, you should have some good snow up north for your snowboarding weekend (never heard of the age old snow trick - hilarious! (@jugar might try that for snowshoeing snow). My indian leftovers never make it to lunch...breakfast instead!
@wishfuljune - another New Englander - getting snow? I'm on the coast so mostly rain for now - will need to get out to push slush around before the hard freeze tonight. Your comment of signing up for a class after work - reminds me that I no longer have to dash home straight from work and I could get my walk in on a treadmill before heading home (a rec center right in the Town hall basement - couldn't be easier!) @micki48 "Exercise is so hard when you work a full day and it’s dark."...I would add 'cold' to that.
@ashleycarole86 @bowens1973 planning ahead for next day is key for me too...even if my prelogged food changes, it's the basic setup that I can follow. Easy enough to tweak quantity (grams are my favorite).
@EvMakesChanges - all those workouts! Inspiring!
@StayFITTer will have a look at Stridekick.
Now to get some outdoor gear on and go push slush around before it hard freezes tonight...and, my primary motivation, to make a little clear spot for the birdies to get a little food.
