HOW IT ALL WORKS: The November challenge runs for five weeks, from October 27th - November 24th.
Everyone weighs in weekly on their chosen day right here in the team chat. At the end of each week, the tallies are done to determine the team and individuals with the most weight lost. The best losers are announced with full fanfare every Sunday. The team competition is all in good spirits - may the most losing win, and may everyone else get to work on next week!
We also celebrate those small, steady losses. If you lose, however small an amount, you are in the green! At the end of the month, we celebrate everyone who lost at least a bit every single week. You are heading steadily towards your goal even if you aren't at the top of the weight loss leader board. In March we are aiming for every team to hit 50% green every week - let's do this!
To make your weigh-in easy to find for your team Captains, please put it right at the top of a message, and use this format:
Weigh In Day:
PW (Previous Weight):
CW (Current Weight):
If you miss two weigh-ins in a row without asking for a break, you will be dropped from the team, so be sure to inform your team captain if you are traveling, sick, or just need some time off. If you want a break, you can be excused for a week or two, or can be moved to the Support Team for as long as you need. You still participate in the discussions, you can weigh in if you want to, but it will not count in the weekly tally. Don't worry! You can always come back even if you get dropped.
Once you reach your goal weight, you join the Goal Zone. You continue to weigh in every week. If you have 2 weeks above your self-defined goal zone, you go back to the regular team to lose that amount before it builds up. You will have a chance to hone those maintenance skills and stick with your team.
In addition to your own team, there are weekly F2F Full Group CHALLENGES. You can do all or none - it's up to you. Participating adds a lot to your success, so we hope to see you there often! These can involve anything fitness, health, or nutrition - and they’ll get you moving, thinking, and learning about this journey. Check the Announcements section for full group challenges.
Let’s show our fellow challengers some F2F love Introduce or re-introduce yourselves right away, and let's get November on the road!

Hello Shape Shifters! I hope you are all doing well.
I am one of the captains of the team together with Jessica. We take care of all the data such as your weigh ins and the steps. If you have any questions, let us know! I joined this team in August 2021 and I have found it a very valuable tool on my weight loss journey.
There are a lot of things being offered here; there is the step challenge, the habit tracker, the weekly challenges, your personal weigh in and of course the Shape Shifter group chat itself. The more you engage with the group, the more you will get out of it.
Don't hesistate to reach out when you are having a hard time, chances are you aren't the only one and everyone here is kind and supportive. I often see people feel bad about posting a gain, please don't! We are all aware that weight loss isn't linear. Sometimes the scale just does what it wants, even when you do everything right. So post it, shrug it off and keep going. As long as you put in the work, the results will come, promise. Remember that one day of overeating does not erase any progress!
I wish everyone a great October with lots of victories, big and small!

FAQ for New Shape Shifters Members
How do I post my weigh in?
Userid
(Day of Week) Weigh-in
PW: 204 lbs (previous weight)
CW: 202 lbs (current weight)
LTD: 12 lbs (optional loss to date)
Where is the Weigh in stats spreadsheet?
Start at the Fat2Fit Main Page and under the header information, you’ll see a section at the bottom that says “TO ACCESS THE SPREADSHEETS FOR JANUARY CLICK HERE” followed by the link in blue. Once you click on that link, it will take you to the Summary page. Find Shape Shifters on the tabs at the bottom and click on that and that brings you to the stats page. Also on this page (scrolling down), you’ll find the Step Challenge chart as well. This is where we record your daily steps if you sign up to be part of the monthly step challenge. More info on how to sign up is below! Join us!
How often should I post in the chatroom?
Whenever you have a question, suggestion, story, news announcement or just want to brighten someone's day!! There's never too much...and please share recipes, tips, laughs, challenges, cartoons, pictures of your pets, pictures from walks you've taken, etc...we love it all!!
What if I have to be out of town during my weigh in?
Send a message to one of the Captains (JessicaKrall8 or Pupowl) in the chatroom or in a private message on MFP's mail and let her know your circumstance...if it's just for a week or two, you can be excused from the weigh-in. If you must leave for longer than a month, you may be moved to our support team until you return. When you're ready to come back, send another message and the MODS will move you back to active status.
What happens if I miss a weigh in?
If you're late, you'll be marked as LWI (late weigh in). If you fail to report in at all, you'll be labeled as NWI (no weigh in). After two NWIs, you're put on the drop list if no explanation has been provided. It's always best to let your Captain know what's going on and she'll make sure you're covered.
How do I sign up for the Step Challenge?
Send the Captains a message that you'd like to join, provide your daily step goal and tell her your favorite place to walk. It's that simple! Please be aware though, you're making a commitment to post your steps every 2-3 days, which helps the Captains keep the stats caught up. If you're not willing to do this, please do not sign up. (THANKS!!)
Do I have to re-register each month to remain part of Team Shape Shifters?
No, your membership will carry over month to month. The only place where this is NOT true is for the Step Challenge. You have to sign up each month to participate in it and this gives you the opportunity to adjust your daily step goal.
If I've missed anything or questions arise, just post them! We'll find the information you need as much as possible! Hope this helps!
Welcome!
Jessica

I did lose fat and about 2 inches from my waist from the Oct. Group Challenge, but really no weight. I did not restrict my calories enough at all. I also did not drink 8 glasses of water. I'll be logging my dinner calories only since that is my "problem" meal!4 -

11/2 4774--I didn't make my steps, but that was because I spent a good portion of my day on my knees working on a tile floor. And I ended up /tired/.5 -

Hello Shape Shifters. Time for another intro!
My name is Laura, I am 36 and I live with my cat Tinus in a small village in the Netherlands. I got really lucky with the house I rent and I live very close to a national park with a second one 30 minutes biking away. I enjoy walking, taking photographs of nature (birds are my favorite), reading fantasy books, drinking obscene amounts of tea, singing, video games and jigsaw puzzles.
I struggle with some health problems that make weight loss and life in general a little challenging, but I try my best! I am back on the regular team again which is great. My weigh in wasn't great, though I am very motivated to get back to where I was. Also really liking the 100 days challenge. I am for sure going to keep up with that in the future. Weight journey under the spoiler. Happy November everyoneOct 2020 ~ 247.0 lbs -- Highest weight, started seriously to work on losing weight
Aug 2021 ~ 214.0 lbs -- Joined the Fat2Fit group
Jan 2022 ~ 195.3 lbs -- Lowest weight I got to, it didn't last long and I started gaining here. I started (and quit again) a medication a while before which really messed me up. I can't blame 9 months of over eating on it, but it for sure caused a lot of problems. Also, lockdown and gym closed.
Oct 2022 ~ 244.7 lbs -- Came back to the group from support having to start basically all over again.
Mar 2023 ~ 212.9 lbs -- Not sure why it went wrong here (Birthday stuff maybe), but started gaining again and I couldn't get it together
Sep 2023 ~ 238.0 lbs -- Came back to the group from support again. The gain was less this time, but still not pretty.
May 2024 ~ 183.4 -- New lowest weight. I was super happy about it and then depression hit and I struggled a lot to get back on track. Overate/binged for 4 months, mostly back on track again since October. Haven't stepped on the scale since early June.
Oct 30, 2024 ~ 216.2-- Restarting weight for the group. As I expected, a 30+ pound gain.3 -

Still hanging in there, logging, but going over on too many days... need to exercise more and eat/drink better.2 -
@jessicakrall8 @Pupowl I would like to continue with step challenge at 10000 most will be indoors but will try to walk outside as well.
@DaffyGirl88 I am in Alaska, my husband and I moved here in 2015. I was in line about an hour and a half but had my kindle and randomly did some calf raises and single leg balancing while waiting 😂.
@frankwbrown sounds like a great day. I am slowly but steadily getting more comfortable with my garmin. I did research before purchasing and am really enjoying it 😀.
I have continued logging everything (even sugar free altoid minis). I have also been pre-logging each morning so I have an overview of the day. I feel more comfortable having a “plan” but also feel like it allows me to make informed choices throughout the day.
Have a great November Shape Shifters!

Hi Y'all:
Tomorrow I have to start going back into the office again and I'm nervous about the pain/swelling in my knee...as I won't be able to lie down and elevate it for an hour at lunch every day, like I could do when I worked from home last week. My range of motion is back to about 85-90% and I'm down to only one or two tylenol during the day. I'm down 13 pounds and that has really helped...of course, most of that was likely due to the swelling, but I have been working very hard on nutrition...literally no snacking and I count/weigh everything. It's working, so I'm sticking to it. Two meals a day.
I will likely have some swelling, but as soon as I get off work, I'll come home and elevate it...
I have stayed in the step challenge, but lowered by daily goal to 4k and not sure I'll even hit that some days, but I'll do what I can...can't wait until things improve a little more...but it is what it is.

Happy November Everyone!
It seems like a good time to set some goals for this month.
I feel like I have my food at a decent place at the momemt. Coffee in the morning, soup for lunch and a healthy-ish family dinner. A little bit of snacking is usually sprinkled in there, but I'm getting better at controlling it, or at least logging it. This usually comes to about 1300-1400 cals. I feel good about this and will continue it.
For exercise, I am planning to change it up a bit this month. I haven't been able to run recently because of a hip issue (I tried yesterday. It's definitely not ready yet). So I've just been walking. But I do want to vary my workouts a bit more. I've just started using the exercise bike, and I want to start swimming.
So my gym workout schedule will be:
Sunday: swim
Monday: treadmill and bike
Tuesday: treadmill
Wednesday: treadmill and bike
Thursday: off
Friday: swim
Saturday: treadmill and bike
The gym, and therefore the pool, is quieter on the weekend evenings, so I want to keep my swims during that time. A bit random, but realistically, I think I can stick to it.
I also will do home body weight exercises M, W, F, and yoga M-F. This is during nap time, so it's as time allows between other chores and early wake ups, but I'll try.

@jessicakrall8 Sorry your knee is still giving you trouble. Can you at least prop up your leg when you are sitting down? That should be better than regular sitting at least. Don't worry too much about your steps. I am sure you will get back to the 10k daily when your body has recovered! Take care4

Good morning Shape Shifters. It was super cold Sunday morning. I knew the temperature would drop, but it was below freezing which the forecast didn't predict. I dressed warmer, but a thermal shirt and a body warmer was not enough; my arms were freezing. I could have used gloves on the bike ride as well. Even though I was cold, I had a great time. I finally walked with my camera again which I really missed. I saw some roedeer, a frozen mushroom, spooked some ducks and spotted one of my favourite birds; the crested tit. Sunday is always the busiest day in the national park, but I was pretty early so it wasn't too bad. It took quite a while before I was warmed up again at home. I did a last load of laundry and had a relaxing rest of the day. Happy Monday everyone

Flying to Florida tomorrow for work so my step count will definitely suffer. Will get plenty of steps tomorrow and Friday walking through the parking garage and the airport. Not so many Wednesday and Thursday sitting in a conference room.
Have a great Monday!4 -
Good morning!
The main focus for me this month is getting more active and mindful of my daily actions. I set some tentative goals in the Habit Tracker for November and am taking a 'let's find what the baseline is' approach for some of them. My goals right now are:
Stay within my Calorie Range
Exercise 20 min/day
Avoid takeout
Stretch daily
Meditate
I hope everyone has a wonderful Monday!4 -
Well, I went swimming last night. I have not swam laps since I was about 10 years old, so it was definitely a new experience for me. I was slow, felt awkward, and I'm sure looked very silly doing only slightly more than a doggy paddle.
But I did it. I swam for about 30 minutes (with lots of breaks). It was a really good workout. I was sore by the time I got home last night and am very sore this morning. So I'm hoping to do it again next weekend.8 -
Hi Shape Shifters! I’m not sure if we have any new members to welcome, but it’s always good to start a new month — clean slate!
I’m Patrice, a 58 year old woman living in northern Virginia, not far from Washington D.C. in the USA. Later this month, I’ll be traveling to Boston, Massachusetts, where most of my extended family lives. I’m going to stay there for about two months to help care for my mother’s 88 year old aunt.
My great aunt was just transferred from the hospital to a rehab facility. I had to call an ambulance while I was visiting in October, because she wasn’t able to get out of bed and gradually became more confused. They treated her for an infection but she doesn’t seem to be improving. My sister told me she is sleeping more and more at the rehab facility.
My mother also needs increasing support. I’m going to stay with her until the end of January. It will also give me time to check in with my father-in-law, who lives in a memory care facility. After a few years of helping him stay at home with support, his dementia was too difficult to manage. He doesn’t know who we are anymore but he’s always pleasant and happy to see me when I visit.
I’ll come home to Virginia for Christmas so I can spend time with my adult sons who will be returning during their university breaks, so I’ll have to plan my nutrition and exercise more carefully to deal with the big changes to my usual routine. Fortunately, our Boston neighborhood is familiar to me so I’ll try to return to my former exercise schedule, running along the beach and park near my childhood home.
Best wishes for November!5 -
