I'm glad David was able to surprise his family and that it mostly worked out. Although thinking about it from the point of being a mom home alone with littles it may have been a little scary having someone come up to house she didn't recognize. Glad it worked though!

Caleb stayed home until Christmas Day and then left to go back to Lincoln that evening when we returned from Wayne. I checked in with him last night and he said he is feeling pretty good. Just taking something in the morning and at night. Hopefully he finishes healing well.

Christmas was ok. My folks were in moods that made me uptight and anxious. For instance, when we got there I jumped in with what she needed help with, which was slicing up some summer sausage and cheese and putting crackers out. So I was eating some of the crackers as I was doing it and then she told me to not ruin my dinner. I'm like - why the hell would you put food out if I can't eat it? I'm not 4. And that verbal slap stayed with me all day. Then dad was all over how we were slicing the meat. Which was the ridiculous prime rib roast, when mom said she was 'keeping it simple and only doing a ham'. Then even though the plan we agreed to at Thanksgiving was to do the name draw on the app - after we exchanged those, Michele hauled in a bunch more gifts. I just felt pretty upset about that too.

Then Thursday night Bernie announces he's been invited Duck hunting and he's heading out to do that... ok? I'm like, shrugging. It's not like I can actually say, no it's not ok. You promised me we would go back to Omaha and do some shopping and eat out after Caleb was off my watch. But I guess not since he's been gone and is apparently not coming back until tomorrow and I get to go back to work Monday. I mean I had more days off than I have had in years, but still didn't to do anything I really wanted to do because once again I trusted Bernie to actually follow through with being there for me. Meh

Mmm, bourbon bread pudding sounds good.

I hope your Facebook thing is ok.

I changed my password on FB. Weird that FB didn't report any problems with my security. I checked my settings and they said my password was secure. I changed it anyway.

Your story about your Mom's comment on the appetizers made me chuckle. That was so my Mom before her dementia. She was more concerned about all 2 of her daughters appearances (hair, weight, clothes) than who we were as people. She bought pop, chips, cookies...but if she saw you eat or drink them the lecture about weight began. She criticized if we were heavy and did not approve if we were thin. Nothing pleased my Mom. I tend to not serve appetizers before our Thanksgiving meal because I have people arrive within an hour of the meal so the day does not drag on forever. Also, if my niece's two kids are here, they hover over the snacks and drop it all over the place. My sister does appetizers on Christmas and they are tasty but everyone hovers around them too.

Would your sister or a friend go to Omaha with you to eat out and shop? Bernie seems like follow through is not his strength at all. Sorry you were let down.

I'm making it a goal to increase my attendance at the Y each week. I want to get to a minimum of 3 classes and maybe a bonus of 4. I loved the studio yoga on Saturday and hope to go again this week if I can get on the class list. We have to sign up in advance for studio classes. I don't have Power Book Bags until 1/13 so I went to an 11:15 Aquafit class today. One of my favorite teachers was teaching it. Pretty much 50-55 minutes of intense cardio so calories burned this morning! She is subbing tomorrow at my 9am class so I will have her again. I need to whittle away some inches even if the scale goes no where.

I'm glad C is feeling better. David probably should have informed Chantrelle he was arriving in a Santa suit and surprised the girls.

    Happy New Year!

Here’s to hopeful possibilities in 2025.

I am so grateful for this connection we started years ago.

I hope you had a great New Year's Eve. We were low key here. Russ and I made pork/veggie spring salad rolls and home made cranberry cream cheese wontons. It was fun filling and rolling. We also cooked a few pot stickers and some coconut shrimp. Our evening dinner was these appetizers. I watched some shows and read my book and Russ relaxed in his recliner and was in bed by 10. I went to bed at 11.

I have been to aqua fit 3 times this week. Tomorrow I will take a break since I want to make my sourdough everything bagels. My left knee could use a break anyway. I am signed up for studio yoga on Saturday.

Next week I have a hair cut and my annual mammogram. Ugh!!! I need the hair cut badly but don't look forward to the mammogram. I always am waiting for the hammer to hit me on the head and test positive. My Mom and sister had breast cancer. Lynn and I have not had it and hope not to.

Cold weather approaching. Not as cold as what we endured in MN but Lake MI adds dampness to the air and the teens can feel very cold. Penetrates my bones...

You and I have been chatting since 2010!!!!

Your New Year’s Eve foods you made sounds delicious!

I just got a wild hair to try and reorganize my closet and vanity. I’m no closer to getting a new one but I can try to clean up and declutter. If I’m successful that will make me feel good.

Wishing you an easy and successful squish.

Weird week with a day off on a Wednesday. But at least tomorrow is Friday

Trying to not let my holiday five pounds stick around for six months like it did last year.

Watching the news and weather and am thinking of you. How is the storm affecting you in NE? We are outside the boundaries of the one they are talking about on the news. We continue to get snow but haven't had a storm since December. Russ and I hope we have decent driving conditions when we head south end of January. It seems we hear about tornadoes and snow storms daily.

I was just thinking that I need to go through my closet, reorganize, give clothes away, etc. I still have 4-5 boxes in the pole barn to go through and then cart stuff to the thrift shop.

I tried making sourdough bagels but they were a flop. I tossed them in the garbage. I did make ham and bean soup from my ham hock broth. We ate it for an early dinner today. It turned out pretty good. Russ is sick with a cough, congestion and respiratory stuff so he is very tired, napping and not eating much.

I went to yoga in the studio today and am pretty sore tonight. It feels so good by the end of class but I can sure tell what parts of my body are aging and have tightness and stress. I made it to the Y 4 times this week! Three water classes and 1 yoga. Not bad...

I haven't gotten on the scale to see what I gained over the holiday. I'm just focusing on increased exercise and what I eat. The scale ruins my progress in feeling good about me.

I have a mammogram on Monday(annual) and a haircut on Wednesday. If we have good roads, I will be at the Y the other days. I also need to get back to knitting Layney's poncho. My hands don't hurt now from knitting too much so I can start again.

I hope you have a nice weekend.

Great job on getting to the Y.

This weather system is moving through right now. We are in a zone for anywhere between 1-6 inches. I’m certainly hoping for less. And definitely none of the ice that further south is getting. I know we need the moisture just hate driving in it.

I worked my butt off in my closet and bathroom today. Some organizers I ordered arrived. I got under my bathroom sink and kitchen sink cleaned out and looking better. And my closet is shaping up. I am mostly working on the storage side of the closet and have gotten it fixed so that I can get the towels in there since I don’t have a linen closet and have always just had them in a laundry basket. And the other stuff looks so much better too. I have some more organizers coming that I’m hoping will give me better options for my tshirts and pjs that also mainly live in a laundry basket. Super sweaty and sore but feel pretty good

Keep trying on the bagels. They sound yummy if you can figure them out

You are motivating me to clean my linen closet, bedroom closet, and under the sinks! I had ordered a fireproof file box to organize our important information (wills, marriage license, insurance info, SS info, etc.). It arrived and that is another project I need to take care of very soon.

The bagels were pretty putzy so I'm not too motivated to try them again. I like the idea of making items from scratch with no additives but when they fail it seems like such a waste of time and ingredients. I guess that is what happens to home cooks and chefs when perfecting a recipe.

I persevered with the 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle and am about half done. I come and go from it and put in a piece here and there.

We didn't get hit in this storm but it looks bad with the ice south of MI. I hope your roads aren't too bad.

    Mammogram today...so excited! NOT!!

    jrbanta Posts: 4,426 Member
All okay. Results were negative. Now I need to remember to do monthly breast exams.

I have gotten Russ' cold. I skipped Aquafit today since I didn't sleep well, I am congested and sneezing. No energy...

I managed to get the ornaments off the tree but haven't packed them up. I made progress on my puzzle and talked to my friend in AZ. I am going to look for a flight to Phoenix to go visit her mid March.

Haircut and lunch with a friend tomorrow. I hope I sleep tonight.

Yay for the successful squish. Boo for feeling sick. Hope you can kick it soon.

No major snow hit us thankfully, but the bitter cold arrived. No fun. Kansas got hit pretty hard. I guess another system is moving in this weekend.

    Rest up

It was nice catching up with my friend Mary. She lives in Cincinnati but has a cottage up here. We grew up in the summers next door to each other on the lake. We went out for lunch and talked all afternoon. She and her husband head back to Cincinnati tomorrow.

I got my hair cut and am going back to a bob. My stylist couldn't get the short cut the way I wanted it and I don't like the way it grows out. My hair grows fast too.

I'm still coughing and congested. If I have a good night I will go to Aquafit in the morning but if not, I will just take this week off and get better. I need to pack up the Christmas ornaments anyway.

In the teens and light snow falling here.

    Stay warm!

I am taking Friday off as I have come to the point of having to burn through my vacation before 3/1. (Poor choice of words with the awfulness in CA- praying for them). No plans. Hopefully my other organizers will get here and I can work on that. Or the fourth season of only murders in the building will arrive and maybe I’ll watch that. Woohoo

I woke up in the night feeling miserable so I slept in and was low key today. I can't believe the amount of congestion in my sinus cavities. This bug has wiped me out. I'll go back to the Y next week. I assume I will be ok by then. So much for my consistency of attendance.

I have watched one episode of Only Murders in the Building. My attention span has been short this winter so I don't finish a series quickly.

My puzzle is almost done! I have two small sections left. I would have thought this would take all winter but I beat it.

    Enjoy your day off!

Oh dang. Dang sick stuff. Rest up and feel better soon!!

Good job on the puzzle. I haven’t had one out in awhile. I think I have a new one under my bed yet.

Still fatigued and coughing. I did finish my puzzle today. Now I need to get those ornaments put away until next year.

I hope I feel better by Monday.

    Have a good weekend!

Feeling better with more energy. I will go to Power Books today to volunteer. Tomorrow my sister and I are meeting for lunch. Back to the land of the living.

Coyotes are back. Russ heard them singing last night and one was on our camera at 5:30am by the house. Must be hunting rabbits.

Lots of snow here this winter.

Glad you are getting past your sick. It sounds like it is running rampant. I took Zach in for a flu shot Friday. He hasn’t been around many people recently and will be around a lot of them starting tomorrow. Tomorrow! Onboarding starts tomorrow! He should be with his team by Friday. I’m so excited and emotional.

We had just enough precipitation move through Friday to make it slick as shiz for awhile. My vacation day coffee run was a little scary. Zach and I watched the fourth season of only murders and really enjoyed trying to puzzle it out. It was kind of like a really long escape room. I wonder if that place is still open downtown.

    Another week begins

I met my sisters for lunch today. We don't get together often these days. The roads are very icy and snowy. It has been snowing pretty non stop for a few days now. We are definitely having the white, snowy winter we didn't get last year.

I stopped in to see Sarah at the nursing home on the way home and she was in the therapy room getting her occupational therapy evaluation. Finally!!!! Now to get PT started too. I waved and said I would come back another time.

I haven't been back to the Y yet but hope to go Thursday. I went to Power Book Bags yesterday and two hours of unpacking and stacking books tired me out.

Yay, Z is starting his job!!!!! How did his first day go?

I have only watched a couple of shows of Only Murders in the Building. I've heard it is good so I should continue.

I started the project of going through my files, cleaning out old info and papers, and getting ready to create an important file box with all our crucial records and info so the kids have it if something happens to both of us. I did this 8 years ago and it's all outdated. When we return we will schedule an appt with an elder attorney and fill out paperwork to prepay our cremations in case of death. Morbid, but I am a very practical person and don't want the kids to have to solve the puzzle of our banking, investments, wishes for our remains upon death, etc. We need to get new wills drawn up by the attorney.

Stay warm. Are you getting the cold front that we will be getting?

    mizpaden74 Posts: 3,877 Member
Yeah it’s pretty cold, thankfully light on the precipitation.

First day was just paperwork and training videos. More of that coming today, but should have that wrapped up tomorrow.

My sisters father in law passed away yesterday. So likely will have a funeral on Friday or Saturday. It’s sad for the family of course but

Was Z excited? Did he share much when he got home?

Are you and your sister speaking more often now? I'm sorry about her FIL.

Russ dropped off containers of the casserole we had last night at both my sisters' houses today. I was in the middle of my file purging and sorting. I finished purging both boxes and stacked the files I'm keeping. Tomorrow I will arrange them in either the important info box or the just need to be saved box depending on what the files contain. Next step will be to list all the contacts (insurance, financial advisor, etc.) and their numbers, record account numbers and locations of accounts, etc. and put in the first file in the important info box. I will feel good when this is done and after we meet with the Elder attorney about our house/money/etc. We question if we should put the house in a trust so nothing has to go through probate if we are both gone or after the last parent is deceased.

I hope to go to Aquafit in the morning if roads aren't ice covered.

Any weekend plans? Our floating shelves were delivered to we are going to try to put up the shelves in the laundry room and hang the towel rack. Then I just need to get my baskets so I can organize towels, cleaning supplies, etc so they are more accessible.

Orville’s health was pretty poor the last few years. He had dementia and a number of other issues. So I say ultimately this is peace.

Zach just got home and is so happy. Things are starting great. He’s enjoying his team. I’m so freaking happy for him.

Dementia is an ugly progression so it is a blessing for Orville.

    Yay for Z!

I didn't sleep well so skipped class this morning. Instead, I booked our hotels for our road trip to FL. We like the places we stayed last year so booked with them again in the same locations.

Still in my bathrobe at 11:20am. I need to shower and work on my file/important info project.

We pulled our floating shelves from the box. They are really nice quality and will be very sturdy.

I went to water yoga today. It felt good! The temps were 35-40 today. Cold front will arrive by Sunday, single digits.

We have meal planned for the cold days and Russ is going to grocery in the morning. That way we can stay in and stay warm.

I ordered some of those pj's from Amazon that are made of bamboo. Supposedly keep a person cooler when they sleep.

Russ 66th bday is next week! Wow! He was 31 when I met him. We plan to go to a restaurant we have wanted to try. Known for their steaks and seafood. I will bake him a double chocolate bundt cake with chocolate ganache on top. We leave for FL a week from next Wednesday or a day earlier if weather is bad.

The cold temps are arriving and the wind has picked up since yesterday. It has been lightly snowing all day.

I made an egg bake with leftover sourdough and put it in the fridge until tomorrow morning when I will bake it. I am making popovers this afternoon to go with our flounder dinner tonight. I love popovers. This is the recipe from the Winnie the Pooh cookbook I had when I was little. I don't have the book but I looked it up online and found it, so I am making them.

Laundry getting done and a little light cleaning too.

I went and visited Sarah at the nursing home. I hadn't seen her in two weeks since I had been sick. She was chatty but not making much sense. We converse about make believe stuff that is her truth and reality.

I started some organizing with bins in my den closets. I still need to update the emergency info for the kids. It will be cold the next few days so I won't do much. Maybe Power Books tomorrow and possibly pool on Tuesday. Russ' bday is Wednesday and we will go out for dinner. David wants to portal with us on Tuesday or Wednesday. It will be nice to see the girls. They grow so fast!

I had bought one of those soup mixes that you just add water. I embellished the ingredients and we had a great Chicken and Wild Rice Soup with a baguette for dinner.

Our floating shelves did not come with very good if any directions so we didn't put them up today. Russ' is going to contact the company tomorrow with some questions.

Z starts his second week tomorrow. Is he loving it?
