@daria0919 - Ooooh, what kind of things are included in your diet? I know there are certain foods that I cannot keep in my apartment because I recognize my self control is not as powerful as I'd like it to be haha

My meal plan consists of eating 7-10 ounces of protein (64-80 grams worth per day for my age) a glass of lemon water, an apple each day plus one other fruit serving, 3+ cups of salad, 1-2 cups of cooked veggies, at least 8 glasses of water, some fiber in form of bread/wasa/bran cereal, and no eating after 8 pm, just drink water past 8.

If I actually eat all this each day I’m totally stuffed. I try to spread my meals out between about 8:30 am and 6:30 pm. My variety is in the types of salad, protein sources, veggie variety and fruit variety, so it’s not boring.

Since I’m 65 I don’t need that much in the way of calories, so about 1200 calories works for me.

I am addicted to sugar/sweets (my cocaine) so I have to 100% abstain from those so that I don’t fall into binging.

I get my carbs from within the above listed foods (natural carbs) so I avoid all pasta/rice/processed carb foods.

    Weigh In Day: Sunday
    PW (Previous Weight): 224
    CW (Current Weight): 223.8

I was hoping for a little bit of a better loss, but I started my period two days ago so I feel like that kept me from having more of a loss. At least I didn't have a gain, so that to me is a win regardless! 😊

Heyyy, so I happened to check the results for December, and I made #1 in % lost! That has never happened in all my years of tracking. Not to mention how well the team did overall! Can the moderators high five the team a little more on these achievements? I already live in a family with little to no support, that’s why I post here.

Great job on getting a loss this past week @MoStacy!!

Also congrats on being first in % weight lost in December. Here’s a high five! 😀👏🏻👏🏻

    Keep up the effort!!

@MoStacy I’m in a similar boat with not having anyone around to support my efforts. My husband doesn’t need to lose weight and doesn’t understand my struggles. My two younger sisters are overweight and one is obese and they’ve given up on trying to lose. The three of us used to support each other, but now I’m on my own, which is why I think this group is so important to me.

    A couple of things…
minstrelofsarcasm - how do you reply to a post?

    My good habit for 2025-
Start activity, by mid year, no less than 5 days a week.

    Successes-

High point this week- recording a loss and posting early!

    Idea for Interaction-
How about posting recipes that have worked for us on occasion? Is there a way to post photos?

@MoStacy - Good question! The quote format can be found by clicking on the "Quote" button at the bottom of any post you'd like to respond to:

    8yp0o3y0vxp8.png

Everything inside the [ quote ] boxes is the message you are responding to, and you can write your response before or after them; I tend to prefer after, but I've seen it work either way.

As for high-fiving the team more, we can absolutely do that. Congrats on your victory!

@daria0919 I’m here for you, girl! The last time I lost 70 lbs. my husband did not support me. I was so mad, I gained it all back. I showed him😳. This time, it’s for me.

Way to walk Weight No More!

Let's hear it for the Weight No More Steps team for 2024! In December, we walked almost 2 million steps, even dropping a couple people at the last!

Three of our walkers completing the month managed to individually exceed 250K steps this month. Big kudos to: @purple1butterfly, @andja87 and @Emilienewme!

Bolded steppers, as always, met their goal.

    * anyone with a * was mussing days, so their final total isn't completely accurate.

This was a great year of walking! Lets see if we can do better in 2025!

Apologies for how late this post is! The weekend got away from me.

If you want to join the step challenge for January:
Just post your steps by the end of Wendnesday after the week ends. I'm flexible and might wait a day or two for you. If we're 'friends', I may drop a personal note to you to check in. If we aren't, and you'd like a personal note, send me (melaniedscott) a friend request.

Part of the challenge or new and want to add or update a goal?
If you want to... be bold (heehee), let us know how many steps you want to hit every day on average and we'll keep track of it for you!

For anyone confused about where we are ...
This is post is for Dec 22-28. For those interested in joining the January 2025 step challenge (you can join any time!), the week of December 29 (12/28-1/4) steps should be posted by Wed, January 8th.

    Awesome walking steps team!

I'm Melanie, 48, and I'm from Kansas. I’m the other team Co-captain. Truly, Ashley does most of the heavy lifting. I generally do the steps challenge.

Welcome to January 2025! Sometimes I post an intro and sometime I forget until the last week. I've been on MFP for a long time (more on that in spoilers, if you're interested). I am happily childfree, married for 24+ years and I don't love exercise but I do like walking. I need to lose weight to aid medical conditions and because I don't like what I see in the mirror.
The rest is my standard stuff, read it or don't; don't if you've been around a while and already did, up to you.

    My (really short version) story
Once upon a time, I was very skinny and could eat anything I wanted and not gain weight. I was pretty active and took meds that probably ramped up my metabolism (and put me at risk of severe medical problems). But that was a long time ago and things are different. Now I an the opposite of skinny, stress eat and I look at anything yummy and gain five pounds. I need to lose 80 lbs.
    My special snowflake challenges
I'm fairly significantly asthmatic (on meds all the time).
I have terrible allergies, mostly mold. Which is literally everywhere. And cats. Anything that doesn't have square pupils (but not things with square pupils!?! I have no problem with squid, apparently!), including people sometimes.
I used to have migraines (but learned the secret to beating them!).
And I have connective tissue issues (not enough collagen, too stretchy, lots of joint slippage).
August 2020, I acquired some vertigo problems and persistent deafness on one side. Yay. Fall of '23 the ENT decided to call it Meniere's and recommend hearing aids, which are good.
    What I do about it
I take glucosamine and collagen supplements for the connective tissue problem. When I have bad days, I also drink collagen peptides (but I really dislike them). I've been supplementing with Vitamin C for decades, not really knowing why. In the past few years, I learned Vit C helps the body produce and process collagen. Suddenly, my lifelong obsession with the C makes sense.
My neurologist recommended I take 500 mg of ginger and 400 mg of Vitamin B2 every day to reduce migraines, it has helped a lot. The migraines are so much better (almost non-existent) and manageable when they happen. The ginger also helps with the vertigo. I have no excuses for not doing exercise when the vertigo is managed, except for being lazy.
After adding some nasal sprays and sinus irrigation, adjusting my diet a bit, adding copious amounts of ginger, and stopping coffee (EXTREMELY, TERRIBLY sad), I’ve got the vertigo mostly under control.
What is the point behind all this?
The special snowflake stuff is not woe-is-me drama llama. It is that everyone has to do what works for them now. The stuff a lot of people go on about (like HITT) are not good for me, and are sometimes dangerous, for me. Sometimes people get down on themselves because they don't do the stuff everyone talks about (HIIT, Insanity, stair steppers, etc). I not only don't do those things, I shouldn't. But I should exercise.
    My Goals
My daily goal to get about 30 minutes of walking a day at least during the week isn't doing much for me. I try to get a walk in otherwise but frequently fail.

Anyway, I've been with WNM for a long while now. Early days, I lost a lot but blah blah blah, it came back and brought friends. I changed jobs in April '24. The new job gives me opportunity to I move more but I also drive a lot and do a lot of documentation, so...sometimes don't move enough. Need to work on that.

    Nice weight loss @fknlardarse! 👏🏻🎉
What did you do to get such a nice loss? Do you keep track of what you eat? Or your calories?

Thank you @daria0919 that’s really kind, it was such a struggle but I’m hoping it will start to get easier, I’m menopausal and nothing seemed to be working so I finally decided to give weight lifting a go, increased my protein drastically (1.8g per kilo of goal body weight) and counting calories (but at 1400, I normally would try to stick to 1200). It’s only week one so we shall see ha ha

What methods do you prefer? I love the variety of things that work on mfp, I’ve tried so many 😆

@Emilienewme I’m retired so it should be easy for me to prepare good meals but I’m on my own most of the time and can’t be bothered to cook for one.
It’s a pain at first because I like something different every day but I’ve selected some meals I enjoy and cooked 4 of them each and frozen the ones I don’t use so I have go to things to eat. Mains and soups then when I’m running low I batch again.

Like you I do batch cooking and freezing but my problem is more of a timing thing.

I work in a kitchen (in a school), 3 days a week I start at 6:30, work 1h in the kitchen, 1h in breakfast club, then I have 15 minutes to get changed and back in the kitchen. The other 2 days I start for breakfast club. I try to have my breakfast then, at 8:45.
Then I work without a break until 2pm. By then I am exhausted, I have been on my feet for hours, and seen a lot of food around me, so if someone from work bring cake or chocolate, we all eat them. If not I go home and (sadly) I really don't want the healthy salad by then. We can bring food to work but it needs to be something quick that you can eat as you work

I can eat at home after but because my kids are busy with after school things, that is also my free time to exercise before picking them up from school... So any idea of nice, quick to eat healthy lunch that don't need to be warmed up are more than welcome

@MoStacy @daria0919 I am in a similar boat with not much support. My husband can eat anything and not put on weight, I look at his food and it end up on my hips 🤷‍♀️

Here is my meals for Monday, I stayed within my calories and had a good macro
breakfast: yogurt, flaxseed, mixed berries and mango, a mug of hot water lemon and honey, and tea

Lunch (at work) protein overnight oats, carrot cake flavour (I added grated carrots, sultanas and cinnamon to the base) I felt full and my sweet tooth was happy

Tea: salmon, sprouts, sweet potato and roasted cauliflower. Chocolate rice cake

    Tuesday so far
Breakfast: yoghurt, flaxseed, berries and mango, a mug of hot water with lemon and honey
Lunch (at work) protein overnight oats, black forest flavour (I used chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder, chia seeds and frozen cherries
    2rndhfmxseqb.jpg

I am still working on an exercise plan that fits around work, the kids activities, the weather and the free time I actually have. So far I have started a new Garmin 10k running training plan on Monday, next run is tomorrow, and I use the time my daughter is training at the ice rink to walk around the top of the rink. It is a lot of laps but I have managed to do quite a few miles on there some days

I have not been good about getting up to walk in the morning. I’m not sure why. Maybe because I have been awake in the middle of the night and I am just tired. I always have a hard time sleeping but it has been worse with the stress from work. I am trying to tell myself there is nothing I can do so forget about it and think of other things. Last night worked ok. I noticed I have not been eating a lot. I am not finishing meals or not even eating them. Hoping it’s just from stress.

@ljdanny So very sorry. I can sense the frustration in your post Tracy. Feel free to vent here - we’re here to listen. Sometimes just putting it out here gets it off our minds, even if just only for a little bit. As you mentioned, you’ll be potentially looking for another job, hopefully one that’s less stressful. In the meantime, keep at it - drink lots of water, eat healthy, keep taking care of yourself. ((Hugs))

I am loving all the comments here. It is nice to see how we encourage each other. I recommitted my health journey a month ago. It has been a struggle in some ways and not a lot in other ways. That helps because I have been sick. I work in a preschool aka a petri dish of germs lol. We have been on Christmas since 12/20. Yesterday and today we have been closed due to snow. Tomorrow I am expecting to go back to work. The temptations are great at work. I have my meal planned out. My breakfast, lunch and snacks are already portioned out and ready for my lunch bag in the morning. I have done really good with getting my workouts in the morning. Now it will be a real test to get the workout in the morning before I get ready for work.

My food for today is in the spoiler below. My grade is a B+. I’m not quite getting all my foods in. I have been feeling very full all day today. Funny how eating all healthy foods for the most parts leaves me very full, yet I’m still losing weight. I had 1043 calories today.

I feel so exhausted at the moment. I have a feeling I'm coming down with something.
My tinnitus, eczema, asthma has started playing up. I am going to get the asthma checked. Daughter said last night I'm mouth breathing & slightly heavy. I hadn't realised. Peek flow is normal.
I will do more steps today.

Do you have any sinus issues or allergies? I have high end moderate asthma and crazy sinus issues. When I treat the sinus stuff, my asthma seems to improve. Since I started seeing an ENT, my asthma issues have gotten a lot better. I have tinnitus too and, well, it sucks.
