    @minstrelofsarcasm What makes you reach for the snacks you've been having lately? Are you craving salt?

    a lot of times I am reaching for snacks either out of boredom or stress. I think it is more of a mindless thing. Last year I was able to get up and move around more. This year I am more stuck at my desk. I am a secretary at a school.

    @melaniedscott--I am not having them all at once but occasionally back-to-back lol. So, between 9:30-10:00 is when I start getting the snack craving. So, I may have cheese and nuts or popcorn. Then 30 minutes later I may have something else. Then Lunch, then around 2:00 is my next craving time. I will walk down the hall and see one of the classrooms have chocolate, so I will get a piece or two.

    How are we hitting our goals this week?
    - Meal prep for breakfast and lunch in work
    rpqchfwa7wxd.jpg fruits yogurt and flaxseed for breakfast, carrot cake inspired overnight oats for lunch on Tuesday
    - a lot of water, green tea and detox herbal tea
    - Focus on exercising (follow my running plan, do more yoga to work on flexibility and include a couple of weight videos)
    - somebody mentioned rucking and it seems like a good idea for bone density. I am already walking 3 times a week anyway when my daughter is training so I added dumbbells to my backpack yesterday

    Everyone is doing amazing with their weight loss this week, this is inspiring

    @laurabb99 your garden looks lovely with all the snow

    @blessedgrandma5 I have started making overnight oats for lunches, with protein, chia seeds, sometimes cocoa powder but feel like a pudding because of the fruits (I don't add sugar) so I am not so tempted by the cakes and chocolate at work. This is the second week, my colleagues think it's a bit odd but it has worked. I needed something quick to eat because I don't really have a break

    @blessedgrandma5 - If it's snacking out of boredom/stress, the issue is less about finding healthier things to snack on, and more about replacing the snacking with other things. The phrase "if you're not hungry, don't eat" is easier said than done, but isn't necessarily incorrect.

    If you feel the need to chew, have you considered gum? If it's about consumption in general, tea or coffee?

    There's also giving yourself tasks to do to keep yourself busy. When I first started focusing on my weight, I didn't develop a lot of great habits, but I did pick up making friendship bracelets (the ones where you wrap threads around each other), and it kept me busy enough to not graze through my kitchen out of boredom. Do you like crafts? I assume you are somewhat chained to a desk, otherwise I'd suggest adding in micro walks throughout the day to kill time.

    I need some suggestions. I was doing really good with keeping my food under control. Yesterday and today I have snacked on popcorn, gluten free pretzels, nuts, cheese cubes, and some chocolate. What are some suggestions for healthy snacks that I can have at work?

    @blessedgrandma5 I too do like pistachios with the shells and spend time cracking them open and eating one at a time - it uses up a lot of time and is a healthy snack.

    I have an apple cutter that will cut an apple into 12 slices. I cut one and put the pieces in a plastic lunch bag and snack on apple pieces if I get tempted. The same goes with celery sticks and bell pepper slices. Having something to “crunch” helps me.

    @CassieGetsFit2013 Great Loss!
    @daria0919 I love how encouraging and positive you are! I've included more clean eating myself.
    @minstrelofsarcasm Praying for peace during this weeks chaos.

    @Laurabb99 glad to hear you’re getting more clean eating in! It really does make a huge difference cutting down on processed foods and non natural carbs.

    We got lots of snow last Thursday which is unusual for our North Texas region. I really enjoyed watching my kids play in it, but I'm ready for the 50 degree weather to return. We still have snow sitting on our driveway and in shady areas.dn5vba7vyd7q.jpg

    Beautiful snow photo @Laurabb99!!

    I have really enjoyed finding ways to make savory oatmeal...not sure I've done savory overnight oats but that is an interesting idea.

    @BodyTalking - Correct, I excused you, since that weigh-in was in the middle of the week and I made an (incorrect) assumption. The spreadsheet has now been updated with that weight.

    Would you like to keep your Sunday weigh-day? We can move you to a different day if it would be easier for you?

    Good morning step team! I'm working on the post and noticed some issues...I have no steps for @nansbones7708 for Jan 5-11 and I am missing steps for Jan 5 for @purple1butterfly and @blessedgrandma5. I think I'm also missJan 8 & 9 for @purple1butterfly. Also missing my steps entirely but I can deal with that. 😆

    Also...noticed a something that confused me @purple1butterfly...you posted this on Jan 12 (Sunday)
    @melaniedscott
    Sunday 10,780
    Monday 3,000 approx as I had to charge my fitbit & forgot to put it back till 13:00 so I've had to guess.

    And then posted this on Jan 13 (Monday)
    @melaniedscott
    Monday 10,780

    As you've been posting as you go through the week...you either posted Monday early or updated it later or were posting for the previous week or something I have not thought of. Clarify? You did say you might not get all steps in because of asthma on the 9th. I thought you meant physically getting steps in but now I am wondering if you meant posted.

    Could you add the date for each post when you post? Or you could post everything at the end of the week with the week of bit. My old brain isn't as agile as it used to be.

    Last thought added... @BodyTalking you posted regular steps for Jan 5-11 but then (or earlier) posted 182k steps...where do those steps belong?

    Weigh in day Saturday

    PW: 198.3
    CW: 198.2

    Was away for three days last weekend and had to eat food that was given to me (instead of my home foods) and then spent the rest of this week trying to get back to my schedule, but didn’t do a good job of tracking.

    Will get back on plan today with recording my meals in MyNetDiary.

    Weigh in day Friday

    Previous weight 180.1lbs
    Current weight 181.7lbs

    I put back on exactly what I lost the week before. Work was very stressful but I have to focus on tracking and avoid the snacking. I have also started running more, so maybe (hopefully) some of that gain is muscles

    It was my son's birthday today, so we had some party food and cake but tomorrow is a new day and I will work hard on planning for the week.

    Somebody mentioned rucking to me and I wanted to give it a go, this morning for my second time I put 7kg in my bag. That felt really heavy to me, but it is actually the weight I lost last year. I would like to lose the same again and be lighter for my joints and body

    This past week I did not do much effort with my workouts. I honestly did not work out much period. I lost my motivation as the week went on. My food choices were not the best either. I know my weight will show it tomorrow. I almost don't want to get on the scale but I need to do it anyway. Today we had our grandson for the day. He is a year old. He is crawling and very active. I struggled to keep up with him. He and my other three grandchildren are my why. My reason for getting healthy. I need to get the weight off and I need to get back on track to be more physically fit so I can keep up with Daniel as he progresses to walking from crawling.

    Stayed the same weight this week, it’s getting harder to lose the last few pounds, but I’m happy (as I’m sure they won’t make a massive difference to how I look/feel, but it’s my goal and I really just want to get there). Let’s see how this week goes 🤞🏻

    @nansbones7708 - MIA total | MIA average

    Way to walk Weight No More!

    Big kudos to @Emilienewme who won both most steps AND most consistent and increased her steps by more than 40K!

    Note: Any walker with * next to their name did not post a full week, so numbers are not complete.

    What is the opposite of kudos? 'Cuz that's what I get. Apparently 14 inches of snow encourages me to...do nothing.

    If you want to join the step challenge for January:
    Just post your steps by the end of Wendnesday after the week ends. I'm flexible and might wait a day or two for you. If we're 'friends', I may drop a personal note to you to check in. If we aren't, and you'd like a personal note, send me (melaniedscott) a friend request.

    Part of the challenge or new and want to add or update a goal?
    If you want to... be bold (heehee), let us know how many steps you want to hit every day on average and we'll keep track of it for you!

    For anyone confused about where we are ...
    This is post is for Jan 5 -11. For those interested in joining the January step challenge (you can join any time!), the week of January 12 (1/12-1/18) steps should be posted by Wed, January 22nd.

    Awesome walking steps team!
