Good morning afternoon or evening for Susan
We still have power. It’s snowing still & to last till 3AM Monday. Crazy. All under ice.
They tell people to stay home unless have to get out.
Our football team, KC Chiefs, got stuck trying to get off at KCI. They play Denver Broncos today. They finally got off at 5. They were to get off at 3.
Mahomes & T Kelce will not play.
Linda. Hope you can do something special. Prayers daughter gets better. Prayers you don’t have those dreams. Wonder why. 🙏🙏
Harry’s staying home today. Tomorrow is his biggest home but not till PM.
Susan prayers for you all family & yourselves. With asthma. Humidity. And diabetes too.
Judith. Hope you have a good week as it is getting closer to when you see the surgeon. Plus wisdom for them to help you.
Would you like a copy of the potato soup recipe? It’s made in a crock pot it is rich.
🙏1 -
Barb - Lovely picture of the family. It sounds like the storm has hit your area. I do agree that you need to take rests between shoveling especially if it is a heavy snow. Heart issues as well as back issues are common injuries. I am praying for safety and warmth for you all.
Susan - Praying for you as well as your son and D-I-L.
Judith - I hope you got some good rest last night. Glenn slept for twelve hours last night and says his eyes feel better today. They get so tired with his reading as well as just trying to have both eyes focus correctly. My dreams were much better - thanks for the prayers.
We just came back from a long walk today. It was 54F (12.2C) outside so a nice temperature with a sweatshirt for warmth.1 -
Barb, the soup recipe would be nice to have. Maybe Judith could use it if she blended it too. Thank you for praying for us. I sure am praying you stay safe in thevstorm. How do you stay warm if the power goes out? I remember putting boxes of food outside in the cold if we lost power to our fridge in Northern Canada back in the 1960s.
Linda, I was going to recommend a video showing the difference between Australian and British English but could not find one without swearing in it. Our accent is different to the British. Have you ever seen Crocodile Dundee? Mick's accent is more pronounced Australian than most. We always can tell if someone is British. They say their words differently. One of the main things is, they pronounce double 't' as a 't', but we substitute with a 'd' quite often. Many over here can't tell the difference between Canadian and US accents either but I can, having lived in all three countries. Australians can have 'posh' accents, general accents or very broad, depending on where they are from. I would say I have a general accent. Some people still pick that I was originally from the US. It tends to be more obvious when I am tired or stressed! Accents are interesting.
Judith, glad you checked in then decided to rest. I hope your Sumday was lovely. Ours was. Pastor have us a message about hope and faith. Our song service was lovely, full of old, traditional hymns. 🥰

I looked for the recipes chat & I can’t find it. Or should I place the recipe here? Thank you.
Have a great day all stay warm.
Susan you stay cool. Drink the water all.0 -
I posted in the Healthy Recipes thread for you, Barb. It should be in today's feed now.1
-
Here is our house after clearing the driveway to, give you an idea of all the snow we got.
We got 11.6”.
We got a lot of snow in one day & only 2 other times we had lots of snow in one day. So the other 2 times were in 1962 & 1900.
1 -
Wow Barb, that's lots of snow!1
-
All the Christmas decorations are down and ready for storage for another year. The house looks very bare without the tree and all the other things I had out. Of course every day should be a celebration of his life and love. I just bought a new calendar that is called "Blessings" that has beautiful pictures an a scripture verse for the month. It is a good reminder that we are blessed every day - we just need to look around for it. I enjoy putting my gratefulness in the thread on Marilyn's group.
Barb - Denver was supposed to get at least 6 inches of snow today. I have not heard what the total was yet since I am not there. I think this is another storm other than the one you had. I pray this one misses you this time since you have plenty of snow right now. Thanks for posting the potato soup recipe. Putting it in the crock pot would be a time saver on a busy day.
Susan - thanks for sharing about the different accents. That is really interesting. I went to school in Kentucky and my roommate had a very thick southern accent. When I went home for breaks, my family said I sounded like her from must being around her.1 -
Linda. You were busy putting away Christmas. It can be a job especially the tree.
Susan. Interesting about accidents. Thank you.
There is quite a few in just the USA alone. I have an accent, but I tell them out here having been born in PA, one of the first 13 colonies I think I don’t have the accent MO & Kansas can’t say that. I have a Philadelphia accent & the Declaration of Independence was signed in PA Philadelphia. I’ve been to, Independence Hall so I don’t think I have the accent.
The accents are interesting. When I was at Moody I had a room mate & I was Bob for the semester. & not Barb as she was from Boston.
Judith. Praying for you.1 -
Barb, I enjoyed reading about all the accents and about the room-mate you shared a room with who called you “Bob” for the semester, you said she was from Boston. My Brother is from Boston, born in Toronto like me but went to the USA on a Hockey Scholarship and Attended the University of Boston. He later majored in Business and met and married his wife and had 3 children. He is now an American citizen holding Dual Citizenship! Thank you for sharing the picture of your home and all the snow you got. That was mega snow for you and Harry to shovel. Glad you both are being careful with taking rest periods in between shovelling all that snow. Love your house, sure is a big home. it’s lovely!
Linda, glad you got all your Christmas decorations down. A big job. I agree the house does look bare with tree and decorations put away. I love Calendars you are describing with Scripture verses on each month and encouraging words of Blessings. This year I bought a calendar from Dr David Jeremiah. Each month has a beautiful Picture and a theme for the Month, January’s Theme is: Victory Through Christ and the Scripture Theme for January is Philippians 4:13. Each Day has a Bible Reading for us to Study; This year the Calendar takes us through the Bible in One Year!
Susan, thank you for posting the Healthy Potato Soup in our Recipe Thread for 2025. And you are right I will make the recipe and put it through my Blender with extra liquid so I can drink the Soup from a Mug! And thank you Barb for thinking of me and all of us!
Thank you all for your kindness, support and prayers! ❤️🙏0 -
Judith. That is interesting about your brother who, lives in Boston. Also that he has dual citizenship. My sister has it too living in Canada & having been born in PA.
Is there any accents in Canada? I would think with the Quebec who speak more French you would have some
I can’t find the recipe chat again. I tried to bookmark it but kept said permission denied. Now it’s gone.
Sorry. I wanted to, check Susan’s recipe out but I can’t find it. I hope you like mine too but maybe it’s
MIA.
Any ideas??
It’s 3* here. I guess that is a warm 3 but I don’t feel that way.
So much snow & no place to, put it, plus the Arctic air the snow will not go, any where soon.1 -
I found it, the recipe blog.
Stay warm all Susan you need our snow wish I could mail you some. We got so much it’s crazy.
Prayers for all.1 -
I had a good therapy session today. She says she can see my improvement from two days ago. She has me stepping up on a step without using my other leg to help. That is really hard when I have been doing that for quite a while. When I was in Westminster and all the steps, I remember using the railing on the wall to pull myself up or use my good leg to help push. She wants me to train my injured muscle to do the work on it's own. I feel like it is refusing this assignment but I will train it to do it correctly. I received my bone scan results yesterday. It said things were normal and I do not have a fracture risk. We all have things as we age that are deteriorating. I know some of you have osteoporosis, I have arthritis, asthma, diabetes, arthritis, etc. It all will be made new in heaven. I am looking forward to my new body!
Judith, I have never seen a calendar that takes you through the Bible in one year. That would be very interesting to do especially if it has topics for the month also.
Barb, I hope you are keeping warm and do not have to go out very often. The artic winds are so cold and you are right, it will not melt the snow for you. Frostbite is very common in this situation. Be careful!
1 -
Barb, please be careful in your Arctic conditions, it is so dangerous to be out doors for any length of time, please wear protective clothing especially around your neck and face if you are out there. Praying for your safety my friend. So glad you found the Recipe Thread. Not sure why you had trouble finding it and why you were denied posting on the site. Have you posted any new recipes? I will check the Thread before I leave here.
Linda, so glad to hear you had a good therapy session and the therapist is pleased with your progress. Keep up the great work as you train those muscles to work with stepping up without having your good leg help. I know you can do it.
I will take a picture of my calendar and let you see how it works.
Blessings all, my Prayers go with you all! ❤️🙏0 -
Good evening all. It was a hot muggy day here and I was busy and forgot to post! All is well. We're doing extra rehearsals for our play and we had people come by when we were home.
I've caught up on all the posts.
Linda, glad you are making progress with your leg, as painful as it is. Glad you enjoyed the information about Australian accents.
Barb, it's good that you found the Healthy Recipe thread. I'll check it out in a minute. Yes, regional accents happen all over the world. I am familiar with the West Coast and the southern accents there as Dad's family was from Washington State and Mom's was from Arkansas. There ate loads of examples if other US accents in movies and TV series which we get here.
Judith, I hope Barb's rich potato soup helps you. We all want you to thrive!1 -
Susan. What is the name of the play you are working on? You may have told us already but I don’t remember sorry I guess my age is showing. When will it be performed?
Linda. So glad that your leg is doing so much better. Keep up with the PT it helps. That’s nice you don’t have osteoporosis. You are right we all have our own issues. A new body each day is getting closer. Maybe this year our Saviour will come?
Judith when do you see the dr surgeon. For some reason I think it is today but Thursday I think is stronger. Praying for you & wisdom for Drs.
I have not posted any other recipes. As most of my recipes are old & I do not have prep time etc.
I have 2 zippers on my coat, the one goes & includes my neck. I also, wear a scarf that I made. I am wearing cuddle dud top under my shirt, & leggings under corduroy pants. Plus boots.
Tomorrow we are to have SW winds so may get to 30*. Then back to, cold & chance of light snow Friday.
I just wish that the roads could be clearer or wider but when you get so much snow there I no place to, put it. Some of the piles at parking lots are HUGE.
There is a bit of melting but each night it refreezes.
In God’s time.1 -
The snow sounds so heavy thus year, Barb. Keep safe in it. Yes, the Lird may return at any time! I'm watching!
The play is a fractured fairytale play called Once Upon a Time. I am Alice in Wonderland and Colin is one of the 7 Dwarves. The play is going live on Saturday 1st February. We do a matinee and an evening performance. There are also songs we sing and some dancing. I don't dance but I sing and play Ukelele. Shaun is bringing Inara to see the matinee.2 -
Susan your play sounds so neat. When is it are the people in it seniors? What is the play for something special? I’m sure it will be great!!
I will send a picture of a snow pile by the Catholic Church in my neighborhood.
We will hit 30* tomorrow!!
We might get trace to 2” coming from the south Thursday night to Friday morning More snow south of us.
Stay well all. 🙏🏻🙏🏻1 -
We just had an appliance repair man who came to fix our leaking dishwasher. He charged us $100 just to look at the dishwasher and now we need a replacement part plus labor so it will be over $200 when it is done. I whish we knew how to fix things so we could do them on our own. It takes all kinds of people to make a world - those in need and those who have the knowledge.
Barb - that is a huge amount of snow piled up. I wonder how long it will take to melt that mountain? I am glad that your temperature will be getting up to 30 degrees which will help the melting when the sun shines on it. One thing about Colorado, we can get a huge snow but with the dry climate, it evaporates quickly. Within 24 hours the roads are clear although the snow on the grass and parking lots will take longer. I remember growing up in Ohio where the snow stayed a long time on our country roads. We would make tunnels in the ditches on the side of the road and they would stay for a long time. How is Annabelle doing with her weight? Is Hong Hong getting the rest she needs with less family around? How long will Amy stay?
Susan - I would love to see your play. It sounds so much fun. Do you have a very big speaking part? If I remember correctly, a bunch of you wrote the play. I am sure Inara will love it!
Judith - praying for your appointment tomorrow. Looking forward to an update so we know more specifically how to pray for you. I am glad you still have lots of hair even with all your treatments. Your picture shows you will dark hair. Do you have any gray strands peeking through? Mine is mostly white in the front and grey with some darker spots in the back.1 -
Barb, that's a big snow pile! I talked about our play above your post. Yes, everyone in it will be aged 50+ with most older than that by far, as all the actors are from our retirement resort village.
Linda, I do have a speaking part but it's not a huge part. Yes, a bunch of us did write it and it's still being adjusted! I wish you could see it too. It might make you laugh. We have corny jokes like Snow White ordering her apple from Temue but getting an iPad instead, singi g about the Dwarves never asking her to marry one of them, the evil Queen wanting to throw a ball but getting a beach ball thrown her way instead of an elegant dancing event. 💃 Robin Hood, Ali 'Barbar', Cinderella, Prince Charming, the spirit in the magic mirror, Hansel and Gretal, drunken sailors, they are all in it. I'm sure you get the idea! I am in charge of the storybook with all the characters in it but the Queen wants to be in charge so throws me in a dungeon where I sleep a lot. Lol! Good wins in the end with the Queen getting trapped inside a magic mirror and freeing the trapped one inside accidentally. The Queen is the star of the show. She really plays up in her role!
I need to go get my costume from the choir conductor. She is coordinating costumes and props. Have a good day everyone!1 -
Barb, that’s a huge mountain of snow. It will take a long time to melt. I remember back East the snow was like yours and we had minus temperatures, high winds oh boy it was so cold 🥶 please be careful on the roads and bundle up in the cold temps. I do understand that making soup does take a lot of prep and with you helping with your grandkids which take up a lot of your time. Just appreciate you making the Potato Soup and posting it on our Recipe Thread!
Susan, your Pay you are doing on the 1st of February sounds like a fun play. Some of the parts you were describing made me LOL! I am sure Shaun and Inara will so enjoy especially having Grandma and Grandpa in the play and you playing your Ukulele! It’s fun with you being part of writing the script for your play. Having all of you from your community having some part whether it’s making costumes backdrops and other props brings a community together. I look forward to seeing the pictures of you all in your costumes.
Linda, so sorry to hear about your dishwasher repair that needs done, that’s a lot of money for a service call and then to have someone to come out and actually repair it. Labor and Parts is so expensive these days. I am hoping that whoever you get to fix the dishwasher will give you a break and in the end the money owed will have a good discount and showing a Seniors discount! Here’s hoping 🤞 about my hair it has thinned and I have a few strands of grey but it’s hardly noticeable. My hair looks dark in picture but it is actually a Light-Medium Brown, has a lot of light brown highlights. More of a Dirty Blonde colour that really looks a lighter Brown. Thanks for your comment that you hoped the Soup helped me as you were hoping I thrived. Thank you.
My Surgeon appointment is tomorrow. Early so it’s early to bed tonight. Hope to have an update in next few days. God’s Blessings All 🙏❤️🤗0 -
Linda. Praying for you & your dishwasher repair. I am always wishing we knew how to fix things. We don’t have a dishwasher so I hand wash it all. In the spring, summer, & fall I dump the water out to water my plants or trees.
Judith prayers tomorrow for drs. Wisdom too. I was thinking your first visit was Thursday the 1/9.
That’s neat that you have color in your hair that’s not a bottle.
I consider my hair to be silver though it’s getting whiter every year. Yes, to the thin hair. That’s why I keep it long so less seeing my scalp due to thin hair.
Susan your play sounds great. All done by seniors. Do cool
I’m sure memorizing singing dancing performing keeps you all young too.
We got icicles outside our kitchen window. Not sure why as we have leaf filter on our gutters.
We are to be 32* today but may get light snow from the storm south of us in Oklahoma &
Texas tonight.
I hope to go to craft Friday morning then our SS/core group is having a white elephant
exchange Friday night. Harry will be working. Our church is only 4 miles away. So I should be ok. Every day clearer & drier streets.
Stay well all.0 -
PS
Annabella is up to 8.5 lbs. she’s grown in length too 18.35” long
Amy I think goes to NY city, China next week. Her sister & family live in China town.
HH still needs more sleep as Annabella has had I’m sure a lot of gas, maybe from her diet.
She eats a lot of leaf foods, spinach, kale broccoli etc. some I do not know what it is. I know with. nursing you need to watch what you eat.
I’ve mentioned it but I’m a in-law.
I’ve not been watching any grandkids. Which is fine with all the snow.
My craft morning got cancelled as we might
get more snow from the Oklahoma Texas
storm.0 -
Barb, you are battling deep snow while CA battles fires. I don’t understand how those fires happened in winter. They were always a summer danger when I lived there. Please stay safe in the ice snd snow. It is good to know Annabella is growing. Poor baby with her colic.
I hope that settles down as she grows.
Judith, hopefully your Dr appointments will go well. Praying for you. Yes, almost 1/5th of our community is involved in the play either on-stage or behind the scenes. That's about 80 of us. There are 500 in the Village so not everyone participates. I am sure one of the aims in our minds is to keep social and active. It's all voluntary. This group of active 50+ people really just loves to have fun. There is no move from management or care providers to get us to do it. Everyone just enjoys it. We even wrote the play ourselves and we also have a lot of talented, experienced, vital people here who are willing to share their skills. We're blessed. It's not like a retirement community here. It's more like a gated community of people who often still work, are pretty friendly and active. It's hard to tell you what it is like but it is a lively and good place.

Today was the day we participated in the travel survey. My phone did not want to work like they told us. It did not write down where I went and ignored what I put in. I hope they get the information they wanted. They asked where I went, what mode of transportation, what car I was driving and what I did. We went to a coffee shop this afternoon to meet with friends. It was a great time of sharing how we were doing and plans that we would like to implement in the church. We have known them for more than 20 years. They have been through a lot in those years with health issues as well as family issues as we have but still are so grateful for what they do have. I had a TOPS meeting today and I lost 2 1/2 pounds. I am pretty happy about that!
Barb - that is great news about the baby gaining weight and growing. I know when my babies were young I did have to be careful about what food I was eating. Each baby had things that bothered them. Onions bothered all of them but the others were things like watermelon, corn, and green peppers. They all have foods that bother them even as adults.
Susan - I am smiling thinking about your play. Thanks for sharing about the corny jokes. I really like the "apple" joke.
Judith - Praying for your appointment you had today. None of these appointments are fun but very tiring for you. Take as much time as you need to rest.
1 -
Will reply tomorrow. Worked on all the threads, in morning will be back and reply to your posts.
Good Night God Bless 🙏🤗1 -
Susan
i also wondered how they had fires in the winter. It's the brush. Trump warned them about it but mayor of LA took a lot of money milions away from the fire department. It's sad when your fire hydrant has no water in it.
Your play sounds like so much fun. Enjoy it maybe we can get a picture of it when you perform it please? Will you only perform in one time or more?"?
Judith Thank you for all you do and prayers for you.
Linda
So glad that you lost weight! Keep up the great work. You can do it.
Well we did get more snow, just what we need.
Our core/SS class is to have a white elephant exchge tonight. Not sure if we will have it. I am making a dump cranberry, pear spice cake. It's a dump cake, so very easy to make.
Our anniversary is Tuesday, trying to decide wether to get a instant pot but seem confusing or my sister suggested a airfryer toaster oven. I know there are foods that I see at the grocery store that you can cook with air fryer.
We use to have a pressure cooker when first married 47 years ago and I was scared of it and so we never used it. Plus we had kids very soon after marrieid, like 10 months. So never had muchof a time before kids. Oh well.
It's the weeknd so enjoy all. Prayers.
1 -
Barb, happy anniversary for Tuesday! Yes, I will try getting some photos of the play. We will perform it twice on Feb 1st. I haven't heard from my cousin yet but am sure he will get back to me soon if he can. He's good about replying to emails.
Judith, I'm relieved you are home again after your treatments. I know they are exhausting. Thank you for checking in. 💕🙏
Linda, congratulations on your weight loss! Glad to have made you smile with the corny jokes. 😃
We have rehearsal all morning so will go for now.1 -
Doing well - next week will get blood work done and see if kidney function has improved - praying it has.
Sad news - we got a call from Norm's mo - his brother Lyall said goodbye to his wife Rita on January 5 at 8 am. She was a very small and sweet lady suffering from cancer for 11 years. They were married 52 years and grew up going to school together. So hard to believe that that dreadful disease finally got her. In November my brother in law passed on - John and Joanne were married 64 years. Both survivors are dealing the best they can with the grief but I know how difficult it must be - it is hard enough for us that loved them let alone to be the surviving mate.
Be blessed0 -
Marilyn I am praying and believing that the blood work you have done next week will bring good reports on your kidney function. Believing the kidney function has improved!
Marilyn, my sincere condolences and prayers for you & your family, Norm’s Brother Lyall who said goodbye to his beloved wife Rita of 52 years of marriage, I am so sorry for your loss, and the loss of your dear Brother in law, John, 64 years is a lifetime to be married, my heart goes out to Joanne, My prayers are with these surviving Spouses Lyall who was married for 52 years to Rita and and Joanne who was married to John for 64 years. May the Lord bring much Comfort and Peace to each one and their families.
Linda, congrats on your weight loss, keep up the great work, I stand with you & cheer you on…👍
Susan, I look forward to hearing all about your play and any pictures would be so welcome to see. You mentioned here you had a rehearsal all morning your time, hope it all went well.
Barb, thank you for your kind words that you expressed to me. Happy Anniversary to you and Harry on Tuesday, may you have a wonderful day celebrating your 48th Wedding Anniversary!
The Dump cake you are making sounds so scrumptious! I have made these cakes before and you are right they are so easy to make. Would you be able to post this cake recipe in our Recipe Thread please, would be so appreciated. You mentioned several ideas about a gift for your anniversary, there were a lot of suggestions: an instant pot, air-fryer or a toaster oven. My Daughter has an instant-pot and they use it mega times. The instant-pot comes with recipe’s. Let us know what you choose! So sorry 😞 you got more snow,❄️ please be careful when out in it,
I posted some updates in our Prayer Request Thread. Thank you all for your prayers. I am at a Medical Appointment in the morning, 8:50am so I have worked earlier than I normally do with completing all the threads here, it’s early to bed with having an early morning appointment. Will be back tomorrow to bring an update. Blessings on your evening. 🙏🤗0
