    NATIONAL IMAGINATION DAY
January 19 is National Imagination Day to celebrate the playground of the mind and the power of using your imagination to create endless ideas.
    #NATIONALIMAGINATIONDAY
Everyone has a little spark inside of their mind where endless possibilities meet between creativity and reality. Where imagination paints a picture of an unseen idea, bringing exciting possibilities to the forefront of our mind. For many people, using their imagination is what drives their creative thinking to help them thrive and excel. So, what is so special about using your imagination and why is it important?
Whether we realize it or not, our brain is a creative organ that runs on concepts and ideas. We fuel it with new and exciting thoughts created from our imagination and allow our minds to run wild. Learning to embrace our imagination feeds our thinking process and encourages our imaginative mind to never stop learning. The more you use your imagination, the stronger your brain becomes.
Through the Eyes of a Child
Children have vivid imaginations. It's what makes being a kid so much fun. As adults we encourage them to turn a simple bath towel into a superhero cape to rescue a stuffed animal from danger. We tell them to take a ride on the back of a unicorn made from a stick of a tree and fly to their cardboard castle to fight off dragons. Through our encouragement, we help them creating magical opportunities for development in their little minds for:
    Problem-solving
    Critical thinking
    Social
    Cognitive
    Independence
Children have been using fairy tales and stories to enhance their imagination since the beginning of time. Up until the 18th century, these tales were mostly verbally told. Early tales were often used as a way to entice children to behave or listen. They also contained religious themes and moral values. Though children books were printed as far back as the 16th century, written literature for children didn't become popular until the 18th century. Books like Tales of Mother Goose (1929) by Charles Perrault, Lessons for Children (1778) by Anna Laetitia Barbauld, and A Christmas Carol (1848) by Charles Dickens were among a few of the more popular written among families.
    FREE Books
Today, there are thousands of books available in almost every genre ready for a child to entice their imagination. The National Literacy Trust provided a recent report stating that 1 in 5 children do not have access books. Sadly, these children get little to no chance of imagining far away places where fairies and gnomes sprinkle magic in a forest. Thankfully, there are organizations that will provide books to kids!
You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children. ~Dolly Parton~
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is an organization that loves to inspire reading. This amazing organization gifts books free of charge to children 0-5 years of age. Funding for this program comes from Dolly Parton herself and partners found in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia and the Republic of Ireland. What started out as a small project to provide books to her home county has turned into giving over 2 million books to children everywhere.
We spotlight and feature Dolly Parton's Imagination Library because we take inspiration from her and what she is giving to kids everywhere. Besides her larger than life personality, her passion to provide books to kids around the world gives National Day Calendar inspiration to keep spreading kindness, too.

@Gouldsgranite, I like your HABITS sign!! TY TY TY For sharing this!! Please thank @Papashop who I am also tagging. Is Papashop your H or a team member? My poor mind is in a BEFUDDLE watching the Eagles and LA!! A very dear friend team is the Eagles, yet, I feel so bad for LA with the fires. Normally, I'd not have them at all on the radar. Later the Chiefs and Texans is an EASY PICK!! My oldest brother lives in Kansas, of course, I'll cheer his team on. Be fun to have the Chiefs and Eagles in the super bowl. I'll have to decide soon if I wish to throw a super bowl party or not. Its usually 3 or 4 of us who have met for years. LOL The game in the snow is always so funny (Eagles stadium).

WOOHOO SNOW WILL has just started here, we are expecting between 3 to 9"s (LOL many of us are saying 1" to a foot) we'll find out!

    Good Morning VIP friends:

I hope you are all doing well this morning. This past week has been so busy. I swear not enough time to get everything done. We have been packing and helping my Mom in her home as well. Yesterday we packed the office closet and went through all off that stuff to decide what we are keeping and what are donating, then we watched church online, and ate lunch. Then went to my mother's house and painted a bedroom she had built for 4 hours. Unfortunately I cannot claim all 4 hours of painting, but it was pretty non stop on the painting. It was actually just the primer coat, but hey we got the inside of the room done. Which is good. Then we came home sore and tired and ate dinner and then just literally relaxed all evening. Today while Joe is at work I will be organizing and going through the basement on what we are keeping and what we are not keeping. There will be a lot of tossed items I am sure.

I am closing on my current home on Wednesday the 22nd. I am really nervous on closing on the home I live in before I have a solid closing date for the new home. I am really nervous on that. I am wondering if I should postpone the closing on this home for a week. I guess I will have to look into this and see. I am not sure if this is even normal to close so early on one home while waiting for another. I am nervous.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - I hope you are doing well.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful Monday.

@Tabatha_Cain - Good luck with your upcoming move. Hope for it to all go smoothly for you. As for the closing dates wonky, go with your gut feelings. You know best.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - Snow it is then!
Yes Papashop is my DH and also teammate. Just don't have the enthusiasm for football anymore. Most times we can't get games on TV so we've gotten out of habit. Go Chiefs! They have an amazing team and fun to watch when we see them.
Wonder if super bowl will be on a network we get?? Hope so.

    Fun Fact:
    MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DAY
On the third Monday in January, Martin Luther King Jr Day honors the American clergyman, activist, Civil Rights Movement leader. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.(January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) is best known for his role in advancing civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience. King has become a national icon in the history of American progressivism.
    #MartinLutherKingJrDay
    Education
A gifted and friendly student, King attended Morehouse College, earning a B.A. in sociology. Combining a passion for racial equality with a rediscovered spirituality, King then attended Crozer Theological Seminary, following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps earning a Bachelors of Divinity.
Shortly after completing his Ph.D. in theology at Boston University in 1955, a 42-year-old Rosa Parks (See Rosa Parks Day observed December 1st) refused to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. The opportunity for the NAACP to bring their civil rights efforts to the forefront was before them, and they chose King to lead the successful city-wide boycott of the Montgomery transit system.
    Young Civil Rights Movement
Just over a year later, King and over 60 other ministers and activists founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Together, they coordinated nonviolent protests and gave the young civil rights movement a voice.
Through the next twelve years, King would be influential in organizing marches, sit-ins, and political rallies for civil rights. For example, during a 1963 March on Washington, D.C. for Jobs and Freedom, King spoke before more than 200,000 regarding the challenges African Americans face. His "I Have a Dream" speech has gone down in many history books as one of the greatest speeches ever given. Brutally honest, with a call to action and a vision of hope, King's speech resonated throughout the nation.
    Selma
In early 1964, 1,500 men and women met a wall of state troopers during a march outside Selma. There, King led the marchers in prayer and avoided any confrontation with authorities. On July 2, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, outlawing discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. That same year, King became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for his unswerving work in the Civil Rights Movement.
In early 1965, Selma, Alabama, became the center of the Civil Rights movement. Congress introduced new voting rights legislation. It proposed banning literacy tests and mandating federal oversight where tests were administered. Additionally, it gave the U.S. attorney general the duty of challenging the use of poll taxes for state and local elections. Televised violence in February of that year resulted in the death of Jimmie Lee Jackson. King's presence and President Johnson's support of the marchers helped bring peace. Throughout the next month, marchers continued between Selma and Montgomery. Congress passed the Voting Rights Act in August of that year.
Author, speaker, father, theologian, activist, King died on April 4, 1968, when James Earl Ray assassinated him in Memphis, Tennessee. King arrived in Memphis with other SCLC members supporting a sanitation workers' strike. They stayed at the Lorraine Motel, and Ray's bullet struck King on the balcony. Riots and violence would follow, and President Johnson would call for peace, referring to King as the "apostle of nonviolence."
HOW TO OBSERVE MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DAY
Many schools, businesses, and government offices are closed during Martin Luther King Jr Day. However, schools hold programs or teach curricula engaging students in Civil Rights history and lessons throughout the week. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DAY HISTORY
While President Ronald Reagan signed the observance into law in 1983, Martin Luther King Jr. Day was first observed as a U.S. federal holiday in 1986.
    Martin Luther King Jr. FAQ
    Q. Is Martin Luther King Jr. the only American honored with a federal holiday?
    A. No, but Martin Luther King Jr. is part of a select group of three men who have been honored with federal holidays. The other two are Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.
    Q. Was Martin Luther King Jr. awarded the Nobel Peace Prize?
    A. Yes. Martin Luther King Jr. became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.
    Q. Was Martin Luther King Jr. a Freedom Rider?
    A. No, but King did show his support for the Freedom Riders in several ways. In 1961 during the Civil Rights Movement, a group of young Black and White college students took to riding interstate busses to force the issue of desegregation. Angry crowds often met these busses, attacking the Freedom Riders. At least 60 Freedom Rides were conducted throughout the South, affecting change that caused the Interstate Commerce Committee to enforce its ruling six years prior that denounced the separate but equal doctrine.

@Patti241, I am so sorry he's in the ICU!! How is after today? Do you have the support you need around this? MANY HUGS TO YOU!!
@Tabatha_Cain TY TY TY For asking. Last night was a little rough (Mildly put!) But today I am usual self, just taking it easier. WOOHOO on the closing date!! Hopefully it'll be a smooth transition for you both. Its not easy to find a short term rental right now, but it is possible. I am not sure of your area, we have some larger cities and tourist areas which people really do not rent in the "off season." If approached you may find a short term at a reasonable cost. BUT hopefully the timing will be good.
@Gouldsgranite, The super bowl will be on FOX. I ditched cable, but got a wall antenna (Walmart $22) it catches stations up to 330 miles away. If you live in a rural area that may still be an option? Or at least to try it if you've not? With mine (I am city) I get 40 channels in one room 30 in the other. Includes the 3 major networks, as well as FOX and CW and others. I hate that not everyone can watch the games!! This past weekend was ABC and CBS. I am pretty next weekend is the same ,, local but I've not checked yet. The 2 games yesterday where very exciting!! BOTH Games were so close!!! LOL Janey, i can tell we are in the techy age. I was in text with 3 different friends, as we all stayed at home, but still "watched the game together." LOL
HOW COOL you and Hubby are on the same team!! WOOHOO!!!

    SQUIRREL APPRECIATION DAY
On January 21st, Squirrel Appreciation Day recognizes a critter some consider a pest and others see as just fascinating. The creator, Christy Hargrove, is a wildlife rehabilitator in North Carolina and is affiliated with the Western North Carolina Nature Center. According to Christy, “Celebration of the event itself is up to the individual or group — anything from putting out extra food for the squirrels to learning something new about the species.”
    #SquirrelAppreciationDay
According to the Integrated Taxonomic Information System of North America (ITIS), over 200 species exist in the world. Some of the oldest squirrels categorized on the list include the nocturnal arrow flying squirrel (validated in 1766) and the Black Giant (validated in 1778). Of all these species, they fall into three types.
    Three Types of Squirrels
Ground squirrels, such as the thirteen-lined ground squirrel, the rock squirrel, California ground squirrel, and many others blanket the prairies and deserts of North America. Often causing damage, they often earn the name of pest, and they are labeled rodents. Predators enjoy them as a tasty morsel, too. As a result, they work together to protect themselves. Their only protection is to flee!
Tree squirrels make their homes in the trees. However, they also find their nesting materials and food on the ground and above. Making their homes in cities and the countryside in nations all around the globe, these familiar backyard and park residents help themselves to your birdfeeders or snag your snack right from your hands if they have become practiced enough!
The third type of squirrel leaps farther than the others with flaps of skin between the legs. Flying squirrels glide greater distances giving the impression they can fly. When they jump from tree to tree or building to building, they spread their legs wide and float on the breeze escaping predators or perhaps other snarky tree squirrels with a nut to pick with them.
HOW TO OBSERVE SQUIRREL APPRECIATION DAY
Learn more about these fascinating creatures. Tell us your favorite squirrel story or share a picture of your squirrel visitors.
Set up a squirrel feeder and watch them as they feed. Can you identify what kind they are?
Go to a park and watch the squirrels as they travel from tree to tree. How many are there?
Squirrel watching is similar to bird watching and nearly as fascinating. Study their behavior and note their differences.
Watch a squirrel documentary to learn more.
Use #SquirrelAppreciationDay to post on social media.
    SQUIRREL APPRECIATION DAY HISTORY
Christy Hargrove from Asheville, North Carolina, created Squirrel Appreciation Day on January 21, 2001.
    Squirrel Appreciation Day
    Q. Can squirrels fly?
    A. Yes. No. Well, sort of. The Flying squirrel has flaps of skin between its legs that allow it to glide longer distances than other squirrels.
    Q. Who was the artist who had a squirrel?
    A. Bob Ross, the host of The Joy of Painting, rescued an orphan squirrel and occasionally brought the little creature on his show.
    Q. Are squirrels social creatures?
    A. Yes. They will chatter and are comfortable living among humans. They will sometimes even eat out of your hand.
    Q. Do squirrels bite?
    A. Yes, but only if provoked. Their teeth are strong so they can crack nuts. They will bite to defend their hoard of nuts or territory if they are cornered. However, they will prefer to flee before attacking.
    Q. What's a rally squirrel?
    A. During Major League Baseball's post-season play, an American gray squirrel interrupted several games in which the St. Louis Cardinals played. Beginning with the National League Division Series between St. Louis and the Philadelphia Phillies at Busch Stadium, a squirrel interrupted play during two games in the series. The Cardinals went on to win the series causing the fans and players to adopt the furry creature as a deputy mascot and calling him Rally Squirrel. He made a third appearance during game three of the National League Championship Series. The Cardinals went on to win the World Series against the Texas Rangers.

@patti241 - Good morning. How is your friend today? You getting enough rest?

@Dianedoessmiles1 - We have a smart TV and an antenna for local channels. No FOX - we don't pick it up here in our area. Their signal is out of range - over a big hill from us. I agree the new cheapy antennas do work good. Our DS came for the holidays and by the time he left, well, we have many to pick from. Gotten out of the habit of watching TV so it's not on. We listen to music for the most part. Sitcom in the eve. Movie once in a while. Last real good one we saw, The Big Year. Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen wilson. It's loosely about journaling! 😉

    NATIONAL POLKA DOT DAY
Display your fashion sense on January 22nd and celebrate National Polka Dot Day! The day also honors one of animation's most popular characters and fashion diva, Minnie Mouse!
    #NationalPolkaDotDay
Polka dots refer to fabric printed with spots. The word first appeared in the 1857 Godey's Lady's Book, a women's magazine out of Philadelphia.
Today, polka dots appear on more than just fabric. They're painted on walls and fingernails. You find them on pottery, phone cases, furniture, baked goods, and paper products. We wear them, walk on them and display them.
Polka dots are also Minnie Mouse's signature style. Her polka dots are usually white and set on a red background. However, she also appears in shades of pink. Other notable personalities who've worn or used iconic polka dots include:
In 1934, Shirley Temple seemed to be channeling Minnie Mouse in her frilly red on white polka-dotted dress in Stand Up and Cheer.
Marilyn Monroe played "the girl" in the Seven Year Itch and wore a black on white polka dot dress.
Julia Roberts rocked the white on brown polka dot dress in her star-launching film Pretty Woman.
Artist Roy Lichtenstein used the Ben Day (Benjamin Henry Day Jr) process for printing and engraving in pop art often found in comic book design.
Artist Yayoi Kusama famously uses polka dots in her paintings, sculptures, and other design.
HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL POLKA DOT DAY
Celebrate Minnie Mouse on National Polka Dot Day. Watch your favorite Minnie Mouse cartoons or wear a Minnie Mouse bow in your hair.
Wear polka dots. Wear them head to toe or as an accent.
Host a polka-dotted event such as a tea party, fashion show, or bake-off.
    Create polka-dotted art.
Share photos of your favorite polka dot design.
    Use #NationalPolkaDotDay on social media.
    NATIONAL POLKA DOT DAY HISTORY
In 1928, the ever-fashionable Minnie Mouse made her debut in the animated film Steamboat Willie alongside her best mate and life-long love, Mickey Mouse. The tough, independent and iconic Minnie Mouse contributed to Walt Disney's success and grew in popularity right alongside Mickey Mouse. In 2016, Walt Disney World celebrated the first National Polka Dot Day with a Rock the Dots event.
    Polka Dot FAQ
    Q. Where did polka dots originate?
