I’m lifting heavy 3-4 times a week
Protein powder as a replacement for other proteins should not impact weight loss overall, although it may have other effects that lead to plateaus.- Whey protein powders may be more difficult for your body to digest, leading to bloating/water weight
- Vegetable protein powders are less likely to contain "complete" proteins, which may lead to your body overcompensating in other ways or holding onto other nutrients longer (our bodies are silly and do not recognize we aren't constantly in survival mode)
- Some protein powder varieties are not processed efficiently without other nutrients (usually fats), this could be why it feels different to your body than when you eat chicken (which I assume is with other foods at the same time)
All of that to say, it depends, but if you're not consuming extra calories, your overall weight loss should not be impacted, although it may be affected from a week-to-week basis depending on how well your body processes your protein powder. My personal experience with protein powders is that I tend to bloat when using whey proteins, but the bloat subsides if I consume it every day.
What variety of protein powder are you using? Do you eat anything else at the same time?1 -

Yes she did use the recipes in the book and did lose weight. My friend tried a lot of different things, slimming world, portion control using pots, those books, a mixture of all, and a lot of exercise, so I am not sure which worked the best but I'll give those books a go myself as I am a bit stuck using the same recipes and rotating them, it gets a little bit boring2 -
@fknlardarse I was also thinking that, it's probably your body changing, building muscles and losing body fat, so keep going, you are doing amazing1

@BodyTalking
Thanks for sharing this monthly review idea, I don't journal much but maybe I should start
End of January Monthly Review
It's the final week of January, so think about the goals you set and how you feel about them now. It's easy to make a list of wishes but how realistic were they?
-> not such a good start but I will keep trying
Did you exercise as much as you intended? If so, what was your driving force? If not, what needs to change next month to hit those goals?
-> over all positive . I missed a couple of running training sessions due to a niggle in my knee but it was the right decision. I started rucking when I walk during my daughter's training
Did you eat more than you wanted to because of the gloomy weather and being stuck indoors? How will you stop reaching for comfort food and choose a healthier activity?
-> I need to tell my husband to hide my Christmas chocolate 🤦♀️ work has been really stressful the past few months, I need to learn to let it go and stop reaching for chocolate
More importantly, what good things happened this month? What did you enjoy, what made you smile, what are you proud of? Remember the good moments as these will help you feel positive going forward.
-> we had a lovely family weekend (very rare for us as one or both of my children always have something on)

Thank you so much that’s really helpful. I think it’s called optimum nutrition whey gold. I usually have it with skimmed milk and a banana whizzed in the nutribullet. That makes sense though that I’m not having it with fat. I’ll do a bit of experimenting I think. Thanks again really appreciate it x0 -

Good day to everyone!
I watch my calories for at least10 days I think....Instead of losing I gained .... a pound... and I'm guessing its mostly water retention and bloating but, sometimes, its more frustrating to watch your diet and not seeing results on the scale than just going by the methods you used when you were 22 years old. All this to say, that I definitely prefer this kind of eating. I feel way more energized (but the old habits don't dissipate that easily) I just want to see it on the scale. And (embarassed to admit that) I haven't lift since Friday...2 -

Exact same thing is happening to me. I’m really struggling with it. And yes I also feel more energised with my healthy food. I’m also lifting weights and getting stronger in the gym but 12 days I haven’t lost any weight on the scales, in fact I’ve gone up half a pound. I’m eating 1400 calories (I think my maintenance is quite low maybe 1600/1700 after years of dieting and lack of lean muscle Mass) but I still think I should be losing. If I was in my twenties it would be literally dropping off. Grr0 -
@fknlardarse and @Maroula79
I find that what I’m eating is way more important at this stage in my life. I’m a 65 year old female and when I make sure I eat an apple, another natural fruit serving, 3 cups of mixed greens along with other fresh veggies in my salad and at least one cup of a freshly cooked veggie along with my 68-75 grams of protein and 2 healthy fiber servings then the weight comes off.
Oh, and don’t forget the 8+ glasses of water.
Please try this for 10-12 days in a row and see how you feel.
I feel stuffed with this food - very satisfied and lose weight.
Count your calories sticking to your calorie limit, so use whatever dressing you want, good protein sources such as yogurt and healthy fish/seafood/meats.
But getting the fresh fruits and veggies and water in make a world of difference.2 -

I saw my Dr. Yesterday and she did some lab work. I'm still pre-diabetic, but I am at the lowest number you can be. I'm glad it wasn't any higher, but I wanted to be even lower so I've got to keep working on it! My Vitamin D is extremely low again, about 6 months ago it was very low so I went on a high dose of Vitamin D for a few months to bring it back up, which it did just that, but now it's back to really low again. Might explain why I have been so exhausted all the time, and my body aches and I just feel weaker. Now I'm going back on that high dose of Vitamin D2 again, not sure what I need to do to stop it from dropping so low again after I finish what the Dr. Puts me on. Recovery from my very first surgery ever has been up and down. I keep having to have constant weekly follow ups with the surgeon because it things aren't healing properly and I keep having infections so that's been crazy, and I'm so ready for my body to finally be healed and just want to be healthy and to feel good! 😩

@CassieGetsFit2013 - Congrats on reducing your blood glucose levels! That's so exciting! I remember when a doctor told me I was pre-diabetic right after I graduated college, and it led to making a ton of changes in my life because I've seen what diabetes can do to the human body and I decided that's not the path for me.
Vitamin D is also a struggle over here. My body burns through it like crazy, I can't keep up without supplements. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes!
Keep up the good work - I know it's frustrating, but it's so worth it in the long run. Consistency is the only way to make progress. You're doing great

Maybe my family will be over the flu that we obtained last week. 5/7 down.2 -

I feel pretty good about how my week has gone. Made better choices and tried to move more often. The weather is getting warmer (34 degrees) than it has been. I was actually able to take my dog for a walk yesterday. She is a year old German Shepherd puppy. This is the first time since we have had her trained that I could walk her on a leash.

@blessedgrandma5 - It looks like I might have made a typo with your weight last week. I entered in 189.8 and not 188. Is the old weight correct, or is the "new" one?
Also, if you are willing to share pictures of your puppy, I would love to see her!0 -

I have read the intro and it does make sense, so I will give it a go. I am planning to sit down at the weekend and chose some recipes to try (it is always nice to try new recipes anyway or I fall back on the same one and get bored)0 -

I think I am still missing steps for @Emilienewme for Jan 19-25.
I will be sitting last week out for steps challenge, as my steps were not worth speaking of, having been ill all week. But I'm just about back to healthy. Trying yo fight off the resulting nasty cough and nagging fatigue.1 -
