@walkintofit I finally gave in to taking a blood pressure pill—cardiologist visit, & she gave me enough info that I realized I'd better. I still don't like it, but I've had a hard time keeping it under control for over 6 months now. I was tempted to try CoQ-10 first but I actually asked her, & she said take it if you want but take the BP med too. I wish now I'd tried it while waiting for the cardio visit, lol. Of course. If I'd get the weight off, I'd probably get rid of that & other crap, too..... Anyway, I guess the bottom line is, at some point it may become clear that its safer to take the crud than to not. Funny thing about new ideas at work when you've been there awhile---YOU know place has already had that 'new' idea, tried it, and failed. Honestly though, I always kept at least a little spark of MAYBE it will work, this time, lol, it helped me roll with the changes.

@walkintofit, Sorry that I've been absent from this chat for too long. I'm glad to hear that your brother is home from the hospital. I don't think you should worry too much about the cholesterol counts. I always had great counts prior to menopause, and now mine are higher - both total and LDL, despite good HDL. My PCP says research shows that statins after 65 don't prolong longevity. You're healthy inspite of great stress. Maybe try some meditation apps for deep breathing.
I was tested for osteoporosis back in my 40s, because it is genetically based. It's in both sides of my family. Not sure how you feel about it, but if your joints/ligaments/tendons are strong and flexible, you might try jump roping or higher impact cardio such as jogging over walking. and of course, there's always weight lifting.
Back when I was tested twenty years ago, I was diagnosed with osteopenia, the precursor to osteoporosis. My specialist in SLC told me that many women never built their bone density to full strength because of too little exercise and/or poor nutrition in the teenage years, "we must be skinny." At that time, I was on an unpleasant drug, Fosamax, for about one maybe one and half years, but he pulled me off when it was discovered the side effects were too serious. I suspect that you, like me, have small bones, and despite exercise, it's in our ethnic heritage. But don't give up; mine has never progressed to full-on osteoporosis, and I believe it's because I have never stopped running/jogging which are high impact, and I NEVER diet, I just eat healthful foods.
Oh Debbie, this sounds just like what I went through as a teacher, "New boss is trying to make serious changes , funny part is we tried some of this a few years ago and it didn't work but went back to the usual way of doing business. But ok whatever she wants, not my show and not my monkeys.. I know i'm most likely jaded to a certain degree but I have been doing this job for over 20 years and just quit trying to reinvent the wheel!" There was always some educational consultant renaming some old methodology and making big bucks selling it to some administrators who had left the classroom years earlier, because they didn't have what it takes to make it in the classroom. Just like the generals who aren't at the front lines. Hang in there.

@Sparkuvu, hello to you as well, we miss you on the Fit Force, what team are you with in this challenge? I hope you and Debbie can make it back for the winter challenge.
You're fortunate to be referred to an actual cardiologist, one who takes blood pressure seriously. Blood pressure medications aren't a new thing, and my older brother has taken them since his late 20s. He's benefitted tremendously, and while he has other issues, his heart and cardiovascular systems are good for age 70. He's still doing physical labor as a farmer, and his joints will give out before his heart.💓 Take care, Nancy2 -
Hi all happy Sunday. @Dianedoessmiles1 no one actually has noticed my nails. Our weather has been rainy for the last 3 days, sometimes very hard and lots of wind. Most of the leaves on our trees are gone. Went to church and that has been my exciting Sunday. Hugs all

@Sableness OH YUMMY!!! OH YUMMY!!! I've only had a gyro from a Greek place. It was outstanding!! I'll have to check to see if we have any around here.
@walkintofit Oh, how cool, Son1 stopped by with your GS! Yummy, Pizza! I agree there should be a way to keep their sweet, loving, and tender hugs aside for when we want them. UGH EVERY TIME I hear "new and improved" I CRINGE!!! Totally, STOP trying to invent the wheel, it's been done. These CEOs, etc., who have NO CLUE how the job is really done, are trying to save time or to make themselves sound "important." Neither, though, usually works.
@alphafitchick I hope MFP worked for you in the long run!!
@Sparkuvu The meds "can" have freaky side effects, but that "can" is a lose "can". I've been on them for years, and they have only helped me. The blood test last week finally showed that mine is under control. I will go again tomorrow (I doubt if that test will be again). I am on 11 heart meds and 5 supplements. If you can avoid that, WOOHOO!!! It's so neat they have these to extend a patient's life, yet scary to think of what is probably in them. Now if it could freak out my body enough to be pregnant and have KITTENS, that I may not mind!! LOLOL!!! Today's drama, Oscar (3 yrs old orange boy kitty) decided to take Izzy's spot (Izzy is 16, almost 17). He rubbed himself ALL OVER the area she favors on the bed. He was PURRING AWAY with his foolish little kitty cat self, quite proud and happy. UNTIL Izzy climbed up, Izzy is only 7 lbs, and Oscar is a very muscular kitty at 13 pounds. She STOMPED over to where he was happily lying, the LOOK on her face was "OUT BUD!! DO NOT TAKE MY SPOT!" He looked at her as if to giggle. She must have said something because he HIGH TAILED IT OUT OF THERE!! Hehehehehe Izzy immediately started to rub her kitty cat ALL over the area, and PURRED so loud the police almost had to respond to a noise complaint!! BUT who's going to complain? She's adorable. He does admire her.
@nbruns83 WOOHOO WTG on the positive approach with exercise, and eating healthy to keep the osteoporosis at bay!! Sometimes it's just genetics. My family goes through the same thing. TY for helping others out.
@Kurtize Oh, GF FLASH THOSE BABIES when you are out and about!! I know I would. LOL You've seen my glasses and you KNOW I hear often "I like/love your glasses." SO FLASH AWAY!!1 -
Oh, those freggies.....I didn't feel like going to the store on a Sunday, and I was oddly pretty much 0 for fresh veggies. Used the last summer garden squash—-had 2, but 1 was too far gone—, the last 2 taters in the house, and then I had an apple, and then too many grapes, who knew the average serving is 32! grapes. I was looking at an article, and I've also been counting one cup of salad greens, when it's two. Hahaha, I've had the problem often of undercounting, but never overcounting my food!
Dianne, SO funny of your kitties! The BP is the first maintenance drug ever for me, so I'm a bit disgruntled about it 😁
Hi Nancy! I'm on Tenacious Graters. They are quite quiet in their chat.
Debbie, glad to see you had a nice visit with your son & grandson!

Nancy, it is a struggle to believe the test results. I'm not a fan of taking pills due to all the bad side effects. A person just doesn't know which known side effects you will experience. That stinks .
2 -
@Sparkuvu : I am on blood pressure pills as well. Just recently went to the doctor for the first time in two years and had high blood pressure. It was due to taking care of my friend and not having time to take care of myself. I have taken the pills since Sept and there are no side effects and my blood pressure has come down a lot. I go back in January and am hoping that he reduces them or takes me off them.

Had a great visit with my daughter. I took today off to get everything back in order at my folks. Yes I got the yard work done even though it is cold out. I went to the jewler and asked if he could make my great aunts ring into a pendant. He was like oh yes no problem this will be something you can pass on. Part of me thought oh am I leaving anytime soon? I'm sure I look tired but he was like I will get that done asap. I wanted to say I'm not going anywhere but figured Xmas is around the corner and maybe he gets busy.

@Sparkuvu Ohhh, I do not care for ANY freggies, but in order to help the team (This round I am on Shape Shifters), I'll swallow a few and HOPE I DO NOT DIE!! LOLOLOL yeah, I am a texture eater. I remember eating a salad way back of about 1 cup of lettuce, then looking up how many servings are in one cup of iceberg lettuce, in my mind it should have been 100 servings, but NOOOO as you pointed out it's 2 CUPS!! HUH? TWO CUPS??? LOL, since that time, I've adjusted and can occasionally eat a salad and even enjoy it. When I was first put on a medication, I felt the same way you did. It changes something in us. I am so sorry you are at this point. I used to hate even trying to swallow an aspirin, I'd crush it up into a powder (Even as an adult), put it in a spoon, add sugar with a tiny bit of water, plug my nose with my fingers, and take it. Often with tears going down my face. One would have thought I was a young child! Or a man with a cold.
This time of year, I HAVE to show this video. It's an oldie but a goodie!!! Hehehehe!!
Man flu on youtube
Now I'll swallow 14, including the horse size potassium ones, at once. LOL These 2 foolish cats keep me laughing a lot.
@alphafitchick Love the step bet challenge!! On the previous team I was on here, and now SS both have a weekly step challenge. It has helped me greatly. NICE GOING!!! And going ,, and going,,,, and going ,,,,1 -

@Dianedoessmiles1 - Yes, in the obits I often see, "death by veggies!" 🤣😂🤣 Thanks for the giggle. Seriously though, you've come a long way. Proud of you! It's hard when it's something distasteful.
1 -
Lol, given a choice, I’d go for fruit over most veggies. Not thrilled about having to consider is it fresh, did it come in a bag (REALLY), frozen, or canned? Definitely NOT a sustainable healthy habit. Would much prefer simply giving 2points per freggie.
@Dianedoessmiles1 - it’s pretty funny that Izzy is the dominant cat, and Oscar knows it. My daughter had a small Queen who kept a much bigger and not nearly as bright male cat plus two much larger boxers under Her Highness’s paw. It was hilarious to watch the dogs back off when Her Majesty gave them what for!
@sparkuvu and @walkintofit - maintenance meds are one of those things we don’t plan on. I wasn’t surprised when I needed to go on a BP med given my family history. I’ve managed to stay on a low dose, and staying active does help. I was quite happy with my last checkup when my doctor removed one med and halved the dosage on another—not the BP one though.@SweetPeasMom55 - nice that you can have your great aunt’s ring turned into something you’ll wear—and as the jeweler said something to pass along. I have some beautiful pieces of my mother’s, and I think of her when I wear them. My sister and I inherited a few small items that belonged to our great grandmother. She and I decided to give them to my little great nieces, held by their mom in the meanwhile, from their great great great grandmother.

Not doing great with veggies. I don't really understand why bagged spinach isn't considered fresh.

@micaroo4 When it's been bagged, here's what AI says:Cleaning and sorting (Look at the Multiple washing)
- Washing: At the processing plant, the spinach undergoes a thorough washing process to remove dirt, debris, and microorganisms. This typically involves:
- Pre-washing: An initial wash to remove loose dirt.
- Multiple washes: The spinach is often "triple-washed" using a combination of water and a regulated sanitizing solution to meet safety standards.
- Optical sorting: After washing, the spinach is often passed through an optical sorter, which uses cameras to inspect every leaf and remove any that are discolored or defective.
@alphafitchick Please take care. Go slowly if you do not feel well. I know you'll be wise.

If I were where you are, I’d have a big bowl of chowdah and a lobstah roll! I’d also have to revisit that lighthouse with the big rock behind it. I believe you’re near it?
A very nice day. A couple of friends and I went to a town history storytelling program. Two more of my friends and an acquaintance were on the program.

Happy Baby Friday and Day 19 of 56 VIP Friends, MFP isn't playing nice with my posts today and it's getting late so I need to start getting ready for work.

I broke a record this morning. I woke up too early and thought maybe I could sleep a bit more. I next woke up at 9:15, nearly UNHEARD of—and immediately remembered my 9:00 appointment. I flung on the clothes I took off yesterday, snatched up my purse, and was signing in at the office NINE minutes later! Good thing it was my pulmonologist who’s quite close to home rather than my GP who isn’t. Husband was working outside and didn’t realize I wasn’t up. My daughter asked how my blood pressure was! It was on the high end of normal, not bad for such a frenzied start to the day! Meals went downhill from there, no planning at all.

@Sableness I think we may have a few Greek restaurants near me. Ohh, we DO have quite a few. What do you recommend? The pictures look AMAZING!! YUMMY!! Did you visit "Portland Head Light"? Which is in Cape Elizabeth, but years ago, the "cape," as we locals all call it, was all a part of Portland. Hence why the name "Portland" Head Light, though it's not in Portland. Henry Longfellow (Poet) wrote "The Lighthouse," likely inspired by this lighthouse. He was friends with the lighthouse keeper. I'm only a few miles from it. I'll help you with the best places to get a Lobstah and Chowah. Also, many do not realize that if you go down the road a little bit is Two Lights. The views there, if you walk out on the rocks to the point, is STUNNING!!! It's the best view of the Casco Bay Islands. I LOVE local histories when I visit other places, and of course, here also. So much to see and learn, we have no clue about. I found out this past year that Portland has tunnels under the ground! I had no clue! They interlock quite a bit of the old business area. They made their way back because of the snow, which made it easier to bring goods to different areas. Of course, they are dark, dreary, and now not that well maintained. Though they are thinking that it could be fixed. I'd contribute $$ for that! WOW You took off RUNNING yesterday!! CONGRATS on still making your appointment!!
@alphafitchick WOOHOO You have done an OUTSTANDING job with the personal day challenge!! WTG!!! Hope you like the photo! Is it a progress photo? I hope MFP will behave ,,, some. We all have a little "naughtiness" in us. It makes life more interesting. Tonight, a neighbor stopped by for me to help her by reading the directions for natural hair coloring. To make it more "interesting," Oh I did I ever adlib to it. Had her laughing so hard. It was worth my effort.1 -
@Dianedoessmiles1 - I‘ve been to your area twice which is not nearly enough. Yes, Portland Head Light! Husband and I were lighthouse hunting on that trip, so we saw the others too! I didn’t know about tunnels either, but I do know Portland had connections to the Underground Railroad. My personal favorite Greek food is spanakopita, Greek spinach pie. It uses layered filo pastry just like baklava, but filled with feta cheese and spinach. Yum! I can imagine you and the neighbor laughing over those “interesting” directions! MUST have a sense of humor!
