@Sableness Love that you enjoyed our area!! When I visit a new area, I always ask the locals, "What do you enjoy around here?" I've seen some off the path things, WOW!! In Portland, the Eastern Prom view to DIE FOR!! The food trucks, of course, are all locals. YUMMY Stuff, especially LOL the hot little donuts one. OH MAN, those things are fresh out and YUMMY!! They are pricey, but worth it. I want to learn more about the Underground Railroad. More so, how the general population felt about it, hopefully, was in favor. My family was in Portland at that time. I wish I could talk to them and hear about those times, and the big fire in 1866. Did you notice that most buildings are brick? To this day, you are not allowed to build any larger buildings than the average house unless you use bricks or concrete, something that will slow down a fire. Other cities also adopted this mandate.
@alphafitchick That is so cool!! That would be fun to have in a flipbook. Good idea!!

@Dianedoessmiles1 - Exactly! I do the same and have been referred to some very interesting places that I might not have found otherwise, including small local eateries. We ate chowdah at a delightful hole in the wall on the waterfront in Brunswick. More outstanding chowdah in Kennebunkport after visiting the Seashore Trolley Museum. We also visited Tom’s of Maine on that trip. I talked our way into joining a tour being given to a group of beauticians. I wish I could have stuffed a suitcase with items from their discount store!

Any plans to travel between now and the start of 2026? YO!! ALREADY near 2026!! OH MY!! Looks like in a few weeks I MAY head to Mass. Ohhh, not a favorite place to go, but yet, I love the place we go. We are looking for a hotel now, and we'll go from there. I'd rather stay LOL near the Mall area, because the places to eat are AMAZING!! We'll go down on Friday, goof off Friday night (sleep most likely LOL), Saturday we'll attend an event we want, and on Sunday we'll head back home. We MIGHT even stay Sunday night, I'm not sure.
@alphafitchick WOOHOO!! We hope you got to enjoy the end of the challenge!!
Today has been a low and slow day, and I wanted it that way.

@Sableness Oh how I love walking around … and eating in Tarpon Springs! The Fish/seafood focus seems similar to Maine (I visit both states). The most notable difference: no Moose will be walking down the street in Florida.

@Sparkuvu and @Dianedoessmiles1 - No, I missed out on LLBeans. So I really MUST go back, right?

@Kateljm - Haha, nope, a moose isn’t likely! However, we do have neighborhood peacocks strolling by. I can do without them—noisy like geese, dirty like ducks, and will scratch up cars sitting on them. Still, they are pretty. This guy was showing off for a couple of peahens who were ignoring him. I’m just a little south of Tarpon Springs, but still quite close. We’ve celebrated my husband’s Dec birthday watching the annual boat parade at the bayou and eating lobster rolls on the steps of St Nicholas Cathedral. Lucky you to visit both places!

@Sableness Toms is in Kannebunk. Maine. Beautiful area!!! LOLOLOL About staring at Steven King's house. The way it's designed alone warrants that, plus he himself. Many stare at it; he's very generous in the community, also. Oh Peacocks are so pretty, but you are right, they are NASTY to have around. Still, they are pretty, but yeah, dirty, nasty. LOL
@alphafitchick Are you happy with your haircut? I need one, I meant to call a friend and book it! Actually, she'll come here. Glad you got to the gym, and I hope the Zoom meeting went well tonight. I was on Zoom tonight for a meeting.

@alphafitchick A lot of people can use that. If I were a healthy eater, I'd eat from the outer part of the grocery store for food. All clean eating. What did you learn for the highlight if you wish to share.

@alphafitchick - at work, we called it Friday Eve. I hadn’t heard Baby Friday! Staying positive does not mean everything will turn out okay. Rather, it means you will be okay no matter how things turn out. I really like that one.

Counting my blessings: the yummy pot of soup I made yesterday, no obligations today, my lovely home, husband, and cat, looking forward to a phone call with my daughter later, having choices.

A productive day so far. Caught another mouse in the live trap under the bathroom sink; drove him to the cemetery to release him. Did my ST workout. Took a morning walk with Rich. Made my new recipe (fig and walnut snack balls dipped in 90% dark chocolate). Ran an errand to buy my favorite window cleaning spray (Cinch), available only at Market Basket or so it seems. Took the yard waste to the transfer station. Brought my expired batteries to Staples for recycling. Got the SD card from the game camera and went through all the pictures; saved the good ones. Took a 4 mile walk. Made a roast beef wrap for lunch. Planning to put up Thanksgiving decorations after lunch, and clean/organize the closet where all the holiday decorations live.

@alphafitchick WOW, did it reach 68 today? That's a BONUS DAY for sure!!! I think it was Thurs we had a slight snow shower around 1 PM. That was so PRETTY!! You know how I am!! LOL
@micaroo4 WOW Productive day for sure!!! Do you have a nest of mice, or is it just because it's getting cooler out, usually, in the fall, that's the time? In our city, as well as Portland, we are not allowed to use any poisons for animals in our yards, etc. We are right on the water (this goes for both cities). We had an issue with mice (I am in a high rise) it's to be expected, as long as management keeps right on top of it, no biggie. Living on the water is extremely common. I face multi million dollar condos across the harbor that have it a lot worse, because their management does not keep on top of it. One HAS to. Did you get it all done? OUT I GO into the kitchen!! My soup is almost done.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - yes, I got it all done! I think the mice are just coming in because it's that time of year. I live in a mobile home, and the mice come in from underneath where the pipes enter the building. I hate crawling under the house, and my handyman had a stroke so I'll need to find someone new to do that for me. But for now, it's just catch and release. I'm totally opposed to the use of poison anywhere, because the poison doesn't stop with the mouse. If the mouse crawls away to die, something else might eat it and also be poisoned. A widening circle of death.

    Fig and Walnut Snack Balls

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup walnuts
    • 1 cup chopped dried figs
    • 1 tsp pie spice or cinnamon
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 bar lindt 90% dark chocolate

    Directions:

Toast the walnuts in saute pan over medium heat until fragrant, 7 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently so not to scortch. COOL completely. Then chop walnuts in food processor until finely ground. Add figs, vanilla and spice, and process until well ground and it holds in a clump when squeezed together. If it's still dry and crumbling, add a teaspoon of water and process a bit longer. Melt the chocolate in a glass measuring container standing in a hot water bath. Shape the fig mixture into balls. I used about 2 tsp of mixture per ball, and I only got 11 balls. Dip the balls in the melted chocolate to coat, then cool on wax paper. Put in refrigerator to set the chocolate. Portion into snack bags and freeze.

    Notes:

    1. I think I should have added some salt.
    2. A substantial amount of chocolate is wasted, so if I make them again, I would coat them in something else - like maybe ground walnuts. If not coating in chocolate, then add more figs to the mixture or it won't be sweet enough.

@micaroo4 Yes, it's that time of year when they will want, as we do, to be warm. My GD has a very nice double wide. I like her place a lot. Once inside, one would have no clue it's a trailer. At some point, she'll need to replace the skirt instead of repairing it. TY TY for not using poison! For the exact reason you've stated. There are so many non-poisonous options. I hate to think of a cat or dog eating an animal they catch and kill, or being very sick because the critter had eaten poison. TY TY TY!! Your recipe looks so GOOD!! I can't do nuts (swallowing issues), but that sounds so good!! While also being healthy. Excellent job!
@Sparkuvu Aww, what a GOOD GDdog!!! To make sure you get to enjoy SNOW!! OH MAN!! I am so JEALOUS to the MAX!!! I wish I were there to ENJOY IT!! Hopefully, soon it'll be here. We've seen snow showers, but that's it so far. Feel FREE to send it forward!! Straight to Southern Coastal Maine (Greater Portland area). LOL
@alphafitchick Brrr, a cold start and day!! I think by Tues we'll have that or at least cooler. On the ocean, it's often warmer than inland (15 miles in gets more snow generally than we do). Hope the challenge is going well.

Yesterday I FINALLY did my new recipe. I hadn't made this, and modified it to be lower in sodium. It's Parena Copy Cat Squash Apple Soup. It came out extremely well!! There's 820 mgs of sodium mine 190, simply by not adding the added salt (NOT needed and using low sodium broth.

Happy Monday and Day 30 of 56 VIP Friends, It's 21 and Sunny feels more like 13 with a high of 41 today. Today is my Friday since I'm off tomorrow and Wed. This afternoon after work I'm starting a new training plan. My Coach Jackie created one just for the premium members of our team. I'll have to modify it of course for the equipment I have here at home. Tomorrow after I post to Facebook a photo of my Dad and my Grandpa Charles their military photos I'll post them here. I have other vets in my life but only have photos of my dad and Grandpa Charles in their military uniforms.
