Beginning bench set?
I'm completely new to weight lifting. So far my exercise routine has been very mild - a few mile uphill walk daily, some bicycling, beginner dvds. My overall goal is not to lose weight but to tone up. I'd prefer to gain weight, but as I've been very inactive the past 10 years many of my previously firm areas have turned,…

Deadlifts less than 95#
Hi, You do have to start out deadlifting less than 95#, right? My gym does not have all plates at 17", so I'm currently deadlifting 75# using small 10 and 5# plates. (just finished 5th workout using NROL4W). So, how do you deadlift using plates smaller than 17"? Do you stack 1 or 2 plates flat on the floor on each side and…

Looking to find friends who do more than cardio
Hi there - 40 year old mum here in Sydney. I have been losing some weight, but I really want a strong and toned body (and bones). So I have started to do some weights at home (dumbells). I alternate this with HIIT training (high intensity intervals) and do take rest days. I don't belong to a gym, I killed that path a long…

strength training for seniors
I am a 60-year-old women and today is the day I will begin resistance and strenght training. I have recently had a bone density scan with great results and want to keep my bones strong and healthy into my future. I broke and sprain my ankle in February, after slipping on ice and taking quite a tumble, and now I am feeling…

Hello, I've spent years feeling fat... but being my ideal healthy weight for my height. So instead of trying to lose weight by cutting calories, I now just want to tone up and build some muscle. But, I ask you how should I start? After a workout of cardio, I already do planks and push ups. What is the best thing I can do…

What's your strength routine?
Share what you're doing (or planning to do) to get stronger. I posted this in another thread, but this is mine. To start, I'm doing 2 sets of 8-10 reps for most exercises. One Legged Squat Pull ups (with toes of one foot on a chair for assistance). Dumbbell Lunges Mason Twists (Russian Twists) Push ups Dumbbell Squats…

Kettle bells
Does anyone here use a kettle bell for their strength training? I'm thinking of getting one to use at home, as the weights section of my gym is a little intimidating for a beginner. Is it something that is easy to get started with by yourself (eg: using a DVD) or should I not attempt this on my own?

48 hr muscle soreness
On Tuesday I did full body strength exercises really earnestly for the first time. I was still sore after the 48 hr rest period so I only ended up doing only one set last night. I'm guessing this is because I'm new and brushing off some cobwebs. Do you work out sore muscles if two days have passed?

Do you strength train at home or the gym?
I do my exercises in my living room because of the convenience, low cost, no one is looking at me etc. Between the set of dumbbells that we have and using my body weight I know I will be fine for a while and I can make significant strides in our apartment. Every once in while I do wonder if I'm missing out a lot by not…
