  • if OP didnt have abs then OP wouldnt be able to stand up straight. yes your body eats muscle if you do not eat enough protein and use the muscle often, we all have abs. under our body fat. you just need a very low body fat in order to see it. Thats why they are so hard to achieve. I don't debate that the OP may be under…
  • i stated that the goal is to burn as much fat as possible while eating as many calories as possible. i also stated that you should see your calories as a total weekly amount not daily. i also stated that if you lose more weight that required you should increase or decrease if you don't lose any. This method is sensible and…
  • didn't say it was. i am not a bodybuilder by the way. MFP doesn't do calorie cycling for you. unlike a health coach app such as Carbon. MFP is just a way of measuring your calorie intake. yes you can inacurately track your exercise on there but anyone worth thier salt in the industry knows that its totally inacurate.
  • are you kidding me?! you are making yet a another asumption here. I did not say that. please tell me where i wrote that? it's ok i'll wait.... i am fully fully aware of what these are. i have a qualification to prove that. Plus around 6 years of helping others achieve thier goals so i think i know what i am talking about…
  • this is why i didnt use the words TDEE because someone isnt going to know this. if you read my above posts i state a very simple method. plus if someone was "under eating" they would be losing a lot of weight so its safe to assume that's not whats going on.
  • good for you. however, the problem lies in others. you are not the OP and in my experience in dealing with many people they are not interested tracking anything. they see it all as a pain in the a** so adding extra stress to an already confusing system is just setting up people to fail. not all people. just a lot of…
  • exactly! so why track your exercise as well as TDEE if it does it so well?
  • again... you are putting words into my mouth. never said anything about fat % and what is healthy unhealthy, our discussion is about the op getting visible abs. the NET calories the most acurrate way to measure. when doing a science experienment you focus on what is acurrately measureable and other data can cause…
  • *face palm* people can and do track their weight loss via calories alone. calories are a measurement of energy. lets just clear something up here... reasons why tracking exercise is pointless... 1. your body and the rate it burns calories changes dependant many factors. - how hard you train in that session, how much muscle…
  • what is your "accurate way of measuring"? Nope i dont suggest that either. I am simply stating that there is no need or practicality to tracking your exercise. it over complicates it. the TDEE method is SIMPLE and works well if you are sensible about it. the problem with MFP is it only takes into consideration your…
  • 1000% agree with this poster.
  • Then you dont know any fitness experts, i know many. Layne Norton would be one. i didn't say you dont burn calories through exercise. Of course you burn calories, you burn calories just breathing. what i am saying is that it is impossible to accurately log your calories burn't. why add that to the mix when you can remove…
  • you are making an asumption here. we can not possibly know how accurately OP is measuring thier calories etc. surely the goal is to lose as much fat as possible on as many calories as possible. dropping only a few hundred at a time is much more measurable than dropping a lot. Assuming that the op has not lost anymore…
  • only if you have an acurate way of measuring it. which nobody does. it muddys the waters and creates even more inacuracy in an already inacurate field. weighing and measuring food is still a guestimate so adding in tracking your exercise makes it even worse. the whole way mfp is set up is pretty awful to be fair and…
  • don't eat your exercise calories back. this function on MFP is as a dumb as a bag of spanners. Your apple watch is not accurate. Niether are any of those fitbits etc. Just eat your calorie goal and if you are losing too much then change your activity level on the settings.
  • no that is good. exercise and calories should be seperate. one of the things MFP does which is stupid is lets you log your exercise calories. my advice is to take all your calories available a day and add them up over 7 days. for example 1500 calories a day x 7 is 10,500 calories a week. What ever that number is, Now that…
  • ok first of all. you should give yourself a break. second of all. you are extremely active which is great but it appears you are complicating things a little for yourself so im hoping i can clarify some stuff for you. 1. put exercise and food into two different catagories. 2. if you want to lose body fat (not weight) then…
  • ok, so theres no such thing as a cheat food or bad foods. there is only food and calories. if you want a glass of wine or a chocolate bar or whatever you view as naughty then you go ahead and have it. just remember that it has a caloric value and what ever your goal it must be tracked. treat your calories as a weekly total…
  • are you eating back your exercise calories?
  • it is totally achievable. but believe me when i say, it is not sustainable. if you are in a caloric deficit, losing weight and keeping your protein high then your body fat will reduce and eventually you will see your abs. the problem is that you will have to be in a deficit for a lot longer than youd like and when your…
  • NO. is the simple answer. calories are calories. if you are in a deficit youll lose fat. From a health standpoint then i would recommend making sure you get a balance of all three. If you perform resistence training then i would recommend that you consume more protien than the average person e.g around 1gram per 1lbs of…
  • my advice would be to stop seeing your calories as a daily thing and seeing it as weekly total. Cycle your calories. If you are hungry on a wednesday log it and eat less on the thursday and friday. if you stay in a deficit over the course of 7 days you'll still meet your weekly goal.
  • I agree with Talan79 Carbon is way better than MFP. It's worth the money over MFP as you actually get coached in the app
  • i'm trying to do more of a recomp this time round. i gained way too much fat last time, i did however add quite a lot of strength, but low and behold the moment i cut i lost all that strength again. I'm just increasing calories if and when my strength gains stall. Right now i'm actually eating just under MFP calorie…
  • Wow you really want to go deep with this. Let me clarify. People tend to gravitate toward wine, beer or spirits. Beer in my opinion isn’t the best drink in this situation for several fairly obvious reasons. So if someone was to chose wine I’d go for red over white. Red has far more health benefits going for it, if you…
  • I 1000% agree with this. With my clients I would always start we reducing calories as little as possible. Pull them into a slight deficit as normally this will produce some decent results right off the bat. Then decrease calories depending on how they respond. Once a lower body fat is reached 12-16% I would then introduce…
  • Sorry I should have been clearer. When I was having treats during the week i actually consumed a lot less of these foods and drink on the weekends. I was tracking on the weekends too actually, which I never do.
  • I am going to weigh in here now because there is a lot of valid points being made and I want to share my opinion. To clarify my position. I am not somebody who believes in eating “clean” to reach a goal. I honestly think that moderation and self love is the best way to lose weight. we are all human we have vices, take a…
  • I agree with this too. However, I didn’t once say that what I was talking about was fact. I literally said that I was doing a little experiment on myself. And explained what I experienced. I haven’t once told anybody to follow something. Plus I’m not convinced of anything, hence why I said discuss. I was hoping for a…
  • I apologise if I called you a guy, I honestly didn’t look at your profile or photo. I just read all the comments and replied in general. I guess I assumed that the comment came from a guy and that’s my error. Please don’t take offence. It was an honest mistake.
