  • Yes there's a difference between a cardio warm up and a main cardio workout. 10 minutes of rowing is a good all over body warmup
  • Hi, I'm a runner too, I've run all my life and done a couple of marathons - I agree that the skinny fat thing is nonsense. If you're running and not doing weights all it means is you'll have more type 2 muscle fibres. Which is what you need for running long and slow. BUT - the recommendation is that all adults should be…
  • Not sure why I thought it wouldn't be accurate but glad to hear it is! Thank you!
  • Definitely! That's exactly how I feel about it, I'm really glad it's worked for you so well. It's also giving me a mental break from constantly thinking and worrying about food., 😊
  • It's a big deal for me as my night eating patterns have been pretty messed up. Yes you're right 4 days is not a success and I'm not saying it is. It's a long goal for me. Kind of regretting posting tbh.
  • Thanks for that - my post said that I am finally starting to shift the weight which hadn't moved apart from upwards for months. So you're right, I haven't been successful yet. But you know what, I feel like I am starting to succeed at something for the first time in a long time so I'll take that as a win. Hope you are…
  • As other folk have said, do whichever your main goal is first, eg if it's training for a running event run first. If your goal is strength and size/muscles do your strength first. But you should still be doing 10 mins or so light cardio first and dynamic stretches to warm up.
  • Weighed myself again this morning and I was 3.5lb lighter, it's still a gain of 1lb on my start weight but at least not as bad as I thought! It must have been water retention. I'm getting on fine with less calories, having reset my goal-it seems that hunger doesn't have much to do with it for me, whatever the goal is i…
  • That's good to hear, I thought it would give me a nice slow and steady weight loss but I don't think I'm experienced enough at tracking to give myself such a narrow margin for error yet. I did fine on the lower calories for a 1.5lb loss per week yesterday and at least with that, if I really do get too hungry I can have…
  • Just read it - great article! Even when I tell myself all these things - it's sodium, water retention etc - it still feels so bad!
  • Thank you... Going to try and take it a day at a time and commit not to binge today. Feeling rubbish about myself today though and stressed as a I have a work meeting I'm not looking forward to... On my day off as well!!! I'm wondering if that's what sparked it last night.
  • It's so scary!! I'm loving it though!
  • Thanks! I've tried to lose this weight a couple of times over the last year but I'd forgotten that VERY slow and steady was what worked for me before. My mind is in the right place to do it finally. Good to know it can take a while for that first loss.
  • Thank you! I'm going to stick with it and not let it throw me off. I lost over a stone before over the course of more than I year so I know I can do it like this again.
  • You did great!! Keep it up, ignore all the comparisons out there as they are totally unrealistic anyway!!! I can totally relate to falling in love and piling on weight by the way. I've done the same over the last year or two and gained 24lb. Im a binge eater as well and for some reason this time my head seems to be totally…
  • Guys you all helped me so much yesterday. Thank you!!!! Without your support and great advice I could easily have gone back into a binge cycle. With a day in between my binge and now I realise that if I had tried restricting my calories to maje up for it it would definitely have continued. I ate dinner later last night as…
  • Love this thread! I'm new here but here goes JDT Monday 12 Nov 2l water Run home from work Calories in green Put banana by bed in case of night time hunger
  • Thank you! OK going to forget about yesterday and get on with what I've been doing... Just one blip in a week isn't too bad I suppose!
  • I've only set it to a 0.5 weight loss per week so not sure what the deficit is but it's definitely at least 500 less than I ate before as I was overeating. I think I do need to save some calories for a bedtime snack!
  • I don't like ice cream either.. I mean I could eat it and not mind it, I just don't see the point of it. And ham with pineapple in any form, whether it's pizza or a gammon steak with pineapple on top, is the work of the devil. On the other hand, haggis is one of my favourite foods (yes I'm Scottish, and yes it is offal…
  • I'm happy to be your friend and motivate each other! I have just rejoined mfp and am 4 days in. Finding it OK because I am aiming for slow loss! Would def be up for some motivation and support.
  • Hey! I have just rejoined mfp and was so happy to see this thread. I'm 42 and have gained 2 stone since turning 40...mainly because I let my eating totally slip. I run a lot and I love strength work in the gym although I haven't been for a couple of weeks (was doing a running challenge that took up the time). My goal is to…
  • Don't worry about it! Just enjoy it and don't bother about pace unless you're training for an event and want a time. I used to be fast but now I'm quite happy pottering along at 10/11 min miles, enjoying the scenery, listening to music and chilling.
  • Everyone's dinners sound amazing! I ended up having a big salad with egg mayo and grated cheese. Then an Options hot choc and 5 Caramel Nibbles for a 100 call snack. I may have had a couple of spoons of the mac n cheese I made the family.... Just to check it was OK of course 😳
  • I think that sounds a great approach, if this is something you can stick at and be successful, go for it! I've just come back to mfp after a couple of failed attempts when I set it to 1 or 2 lb a week and couldn't stick to it. I've now also set mine to 0.5 a week and I feel in control of what I'm eating for the first time…
  • Hey! I'm new here too and have a stone to lose. I'm a runner and it sounds like we have the prob, exercise is on point but it's our diets that hold us back. No tips on diet yet as just getting started and need help too! But I am a gym instructor.... And it's great you are doing spin as that'll give you a blast doing done…
  • Thanks guys! And good luck to both of you - we can do this!!!
  • Me too, I totally hear what youre saying about hubbies!!!! They mean well but he just does not understand my struggles although he knows how much my weight bothers me. We can do this. I feel like I'm at a tipping point here too and need to sort this out. Let's help each other, we can do it x
  • Right I am definitely going to try this volume eating thing! I like to graze pretty much constantly while I'm at work and in the evening and can end up eating junk. But I love veggies so that plus the fact I like eating A LOT means I really think this could work for me. Going to come back on here once I've done a day to…
  • Frozen mixed berries with natural or Greek yoghurt, with cinnamon and sometimes a teaspoon of peanut butter or honey or both! I save it until about 10am and by then the berries have slightly defrosted but are still deliciously cold... I love it!
