I lost 15 pounds through intermittent fasting alone but have had to go back to monitoring my calories as well since I want to lose at least 40 more. I continue with 16:8 IF most days, although if something is going on that requires changing my schedule, I change it. Losing that first 15 pounds was extremely motivating to…

I don't.

One of the best bits of advice I've ever gotten was to use a calculator like they have at fat2fit to figure out what calorie level you would need to maintain your goal weight at your current activity level. That's your target calories now. By the time you get to your goal weight, you'll already know how to eat to maintain…

Peppermint herb not peppermint candy. Peppermint tea. Ginger ale (with real ginger) They also make candied ginger, but I can't recommend that (bleh!) but you might love it. You can also find tea with ginger added.

Right now I'm thinking in terms of 160. I've been over 200 for at least a decade, so 160 is almost the impossible dream. Once I'm there, I might realize that I can dream smaller (lol).

Does your MIL buy an entire dozen doughnuts when only she and your spouse are eating them? If so, I'd say she's trying to sabotage your efforts. Decide what treats you really want to have, buy them for yourself, and realize that anything else is not your food. It's a lot easier to avoid a doughnut if you know you have…

It helps me to aim for a certain number of glasses per day, otherwise I forget to drink and my urine is strongly yellow, even brownish, putting me in the dehydrated category. I am one of those people who thinks that thirst is hunger apparently because I want to eat a lot more than i want to drink. Cheese and crackers don't…

I hear it's good for you. I can only handle hot spices at about level 1.

Another thing to consider: You're coming down with a virus of some kind.

Me too - on again, off again in a seemingly endless cycle of going nowhere. So, let me end this with on again.

I am 5'6" and the last time I was around 130 pounds, I wore a size 9, but that was 30+ years ago, and size 9 was likely smaller than it is now. Sizes really depend a lot on how weight is distributed, though. My daughter is at least an inch or 2 shorter than I am and weighs the same. She wears a size 12, sometimes 14. I…

Maybe there are food triggers for you. For example, and I'm not suggesting this is your problem, it's just an example of what happens with me - if I eat something sweet in the morning like pancakes or muffins, I feel like I'm starving all day long and will often lose control and eat everything in sight. My doctor advised…

That is so helpful, thanks.

I don't mind most low fat foods that I can think of, but won't eat nonfat (other than yogurt). I also still use butter but very small amounts now, especially since my husband had his heart attack.

Agree with above, although I can tell that you're going to do what you want to do no matter what anybody says. Most doctors don't know a lot about dieting so you can't always go by a doctor's o.k. Good luck to you. If you keep your focus and commitment, you will lose the fat. When the 1200 per day gets too hard to manage,…

I am back for I don't know how many times. I get started and then lose focus and drift away. I'm trying to screw myself down to this thing because I truly want to get some weight off my arthritic feet. I'm not following any particular plan, just logging calories and activity to keep my total calories in the weight loss…

2 pounds is weight loss. Keep doing what you're doing.

I just looked at my container of salt, and it contains dextrose. Ignoring the scale and doing my best to eat only "healthy" (whole grain and so forth) is how I got to 217 pounds. Some of us have to pay attention to that stuff because our appetites lead us astray.

Your face is not fat and chubby; it's just round. Lots of people have round faces and are beautiful (like you are). Google it.

This is exactly what I think is going on.

You can certainly exercise at home. YouTube has hundreds of exercise tutorials. If you need the incentive of working out with other people, know that what others are saying here is true. You are likely to see all fitness levels there, especially since it's the beginning of the year when people embark on resolutions. I…

I am new again, too. Sticking with it is hard, but I know I can do it.

Since you're not weighing your food, you may already be eating exercise calories back plus more. Or you're not getting enough nutrition. It's really hard to keep track if you're not verifying the calorie count in what you're eating. Unless you're measuring some other way. I often use measuring spoons and cups because…

Hmmm; I wonder if that's why, as I am prediabetic, I was advised to use red potatoes or sweet potatoes because they are digested more slowly and don't cause a sugar spike.

Last time I can remember, I was flirting with a guy at a bar, then saw him stuff a plug of tobacco into his cheek. Ewwwwwwww!

Thanks for the feedback. I put my base as lightly active, and I think that's pretty accurate most days. I'll definitely pay attention to how I'm feeling.

If you go through the setup process of My Fitness Pal, it will offer you a calorie count. There's also a site called Fat2Fit that has more in-depth calculators. Even if it sounds high to you, don't dismiss your result as "madness". Better results come from gradually changing your habits. As your body weight decreases, your…

From the Fat2Fit website, there's a quote regarding figuring out what your maintenance calories would be for your optimum body weight. Start eating that way "and you'll never have to be on 'a diet' again."
