  • Yes it looks ok this mornnng!
  • Thank you! I guess I could’ve researched it myself, I appreciate the info. I hope they also continue my streak, I logged before midnight.
  • Halo Top and Quest bars are disgusting. I had a bad reaction to both. Upset stomach for two days and my eyes swelled up. And there's the taste.....gross.....
  • Ok- that's it..... you all have greatly inspired me....sign me up for the Ironman!
  • I only think that I may be since people seem to tell me so. Very few people know of my running goals. Everyone here is so nice and has given me great advice. I'll have to stop listening to non runners. I usually assume when I see about an older runner that they have done it all their life. But you all have posted stuff…
  • Thank you so much! The only other thing I ever wonder is.....it too late for me to even begin taking part in different things, for the marathon I figured it's now or never. (I am 45.) but I do work out a lot. Run, bike, yoga, p90x, weight lifting, jump rope. cross fit when I have time. Probably up to 11 hours a week of…
  • Thank you! I will check them out. I know I am not the only runner/wanna be triathlete around here, but the runners I do know (like 2-3) prefer solo running, and I am beyond their distances. Just having more people to talk to would be nice, I have no support from anyone to do these things. Which is what got me here, I don't…
  • I agree that it's not a far distance. But there's not really much for training/support near me. Which is not a big deal, I can find resources. The marathon I'm doing is 3 hours away, so I am not opposed to traveling, I just have to do it alone.
  • I will look for the book, thanks! Any help/advice I can get is appreciated.
  • Great advice, however I live in the middle of rural Wisconsin, there are no local running or tri clubs near me. I don't know anyone else who runs or bikes. I can count on one hand the number of local "races" we have here. I asked a trainer at the Ymca about marathon training, and none of them have any experience with it.…
  • Actually......it's something I have been thinking about. But I have no idea how to go from "thinking about it" to doing it. I watched the Ironman and those competitors are awesome! Maybe after my duathlon I should jump in the pool for a few laps!
  • Thank you. And I am not adding anything new as I usually bike and run, but I have read that marathon training should be all I do, nice to hear others continued other activities as well. There's so much info out there hard to know what to believe.
  • Thank you all for the great advice. I feel more comfortable knowing this is doable and that my plan is good.
  • I have a good 7 weeks to train for it, I hope that's enough. Should I do a full run thru before the actual duathlon?
  • Thanks for the great advice. I was working on advancing to heavier weights but maybe I will stay or drop down for now,
  • I am basing my marathon goal off my best guess actually. I didn't know there was a formula for it. I was hoping thru training I'd get faster and maybe make my goal. This is my first marathon, I have no idea what to expect. The biking portion of the duathlon is flat, no hills, as is the running portion. The marathon is also…
  • Thank you, maybe I will plan for some rollerblading too.
  • Yes I have two months between events. I like the idea of using the duathlon as speedwork. My goal marathon time is 4.15-4.25.
  • I can feel I need to strengthen my upper body/core more as I feel it on longer runs that's were I feel tired first. Running and a bit of biking should be enough for legs? I will drop the legs weightlifting for now. The duathlon is at the end of July, the marathon is beginning of October. So there are two months between…
  • On my plan - the first column is the long run distance and the second column is the total weekly mileage
  • Hoshiko- Thank you for the response. Good to know my goals are reasonable and I'm not being crazy, I have never done a duathlon and I thought it would be fun. But I will definitely adjust biking miles as I get into higher miles if needed. I do have a hard time taking recovery days, I will have to make those a priority.
  • This is the plan I am following, except I ran a ten mile race this past weekend.
  • Djproulx I am not counting on breaking any records at the marathon :) just want to finish and have it not suck. I have been running for about ten years with an average base of 25-30 during the summer, and about 15 in the winter (hate the treadmill). This will be my first marathon and I appreciate any advice from those that…
  • MeanderingMammal Member June 5, 2017 4:39PM Seven miles isn't a great deal, but it really is a question of monitoring your energy levels. Personally I ride as well as train for long distance and it's a good mix. What's your weekly mileage at the moment and how does that increase in your plan? Currently I am at about 23…
  • Giddyup Tim - I know what you mean about weights and being sore, I know that is something I will need to watch for sure. Especially with lifting heavy. I ran eight miles last summer the day after a long heavy weight training session and my legs were like lead, it affected my time for sure. thanks for the advice!
  • I chew a couple of salt stick electrolytes as soon as I'm done running and that helps me. Sometimes I have one before a run too. I don't like the taste of Gatorade so I only drink water.
  • ****** I totally agree.....pig slop...disgusting
  • You couldn't have at least showed up to check it out ? When we had a 5 mile race after a night of snow/slush they had the route all cleared and ready. Not sure if your trail would be able to be cleared? Maybe you could have walked at a slower pace too? I would've gone to cheer on the other participants if anything.
  • I don't make resolutions, I set goals. In order to reach my goals there are certain things I must do, and those may be more like a "resolution" . This year's goal - a marathon in the Fall. To prepare - training, training and more training. I want to get leaner (lower body fat) so I'll be faster. To do that I need to have…
