  • Whether refined sugar or "fruit sugar" aka natural sugar, the body still processes it the same. http://www.livestrong.com/article/546655-does-the-body-process-fruit-sugars-the-same-way-that-it-does-refined-sugar/ The only difference when it comes to sugar in a banana and a piece of cake, is the macronutrients of each item.…
  • I said there is no SPECIFIC fat burning zone. There is nothing called fat burning zone. Just like there is no such thing as starvation mode but rather adaptive thermogenesis.
  • No, I don't think math is complicated but other people might perhaps. If I thought math was complicated, would I be able to pass the MATH part and FORMULA MEMORIZATION of the ACE certification? My goal here is to NOT get anyone confused! If you asked 3/4 of the people on here to calculate their BMR would they understand…
  • But the point is, is that there is NO SPECIFIC ZONE. How about this: http://www.builtlean.com/2013/04/01/fat-burning-zone-myth/
  • Oh geez. Where are your sources? http://health.usnews.com/health-news/blogs/on-fitness/2009/03/03/the-fat-burning-zone-a-fitness-myth-debunked AND how do you measure max HR? YES there is a formula. YES it is complicated. YES... but in theory, 220 - Age gives a great guideline
  • Yep. You can still do recovery cardio the day after HIIT. I pare my HIIT with core. The next day in my cycle is rest then back to upper followed by legs. I get 4 LSS and 2 HIIT
  • Yep. Sounds like me.
  • ^^ Yes!! Another GI eater. Do you GI only or do you do GL too?
  • http://www.news-press.com/story/news/local/cape-coral/2015/01/13/sugar-addictive/21701489/ Sugar is addictive hence why if you eliminate your cravings will decrease! AND sugar raises your insulin levels & if you don't use it for productivity it can hinder weight loss.
  • I have to try to get over 20g of sugar a day. I avoid fruit unless I am in an emergency right before a workout and need fuel! I get my vitamins & minerals through vegetables. There is hardly anything you can get from fruit that you can't get from a veggie!

  • HIIT (high intensity interval training) is a great way to burn calories and increase cardiovascular production. This would be getting your heart rate to 90% of it's maximum then recovering and doing it again. Your maximum heart rate is 220 - your age. Now, ACE (American Counsel on Exercise) just released in their personal…
  • Stretch!!! ACE (american counsel on exercise) recommends 15-30 seconds per stretch. Cramps like the person above me stem from dehydration and low potassium. Could also stem from circulation. Ginko Biloba helps. http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/news/20000330/ginkgo-biloba-leg-cramps
  • Well, I'm a lesbian and married to my business partner of a personal training studio. I cook for both.

  • 1 serving brown rice, 6 oz chicken, and SALSA in a bowl... my favorite. 150 cals - rice 160 cals - chicken 50 cals - salsa 360 all day. Carbohydrates raise your glucose levels fast while protein slowly raises your levels to help you feel full longer. They work together.
  • YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I lift as heavy as possible til my body says NOOOO. Haha.
  • Veggies!!! I am an quantity eater. Stimulating the chewing mechanism relays a message to the brain that you’re consuming something. The more I chew, the more I feel full.
  • Functions of Fiber Foods: * Lowers the level of cholesterol * Lowers Triglycerides * Reduces the risk of colon cancer * Enhances the factor of weight loss * Improves Diabetes * Moves bowel What does Fiber do for your body ? * They would help you to lose weight as your body would easily flush toxins and other colon wastes *…
  • Hey, no problem! I am obsessed with my HR monitor. I wear it for everything including lifting weights. I don't understand the claim of how they cannot be accurate in lifting weights & interval training. If they are accurate in long steady state how could they not be accurate the other way? It doesn't sound logical. That's…
  • My clients do a lot of the classes at the YMCA. Some of their favorites are pump & tabata. Tabata is definitely super hard and I do no recommend to those new to fitness. The Y here, has some morning, lunch, and evening classes. I recommend trying some that fit your schedule. You never know if you like it or don't until you…
  • My clients love tabata. It's interval training. It's hard. The most common mistake is too much of HIIT. ACE (American Counsel on Exercise) just released in their personal training magazine, that too much HIIT is counterproductive due to the strain it has on your body. They recommend 48 hours after an HIIT before you do…
  • ^^ Fair enough although it did come directly from ACE. Although decreasing by a minimum of 500 would OBVIOUSLY be for the obese. I stick with percent values of 15%. Works will with clients.
  • Don't recommend low fiber diet. Ask nutritionist.
  • I lost 40 lbs by running only & I am a trainer. Yes, our bodies adapt to what we are doing. Yes, our heart rate will adapt so it is important to vary your cardio BUT we don't just adapt to running; we adapt to anything we do frequently. You need to adjust your calories & not eat back what you burn! Harris benedict formula…
  • Polar RC3 heart rate monitor. Everyone says heart rate monitors can't do intervals blah blah blah. Bologna. http://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com/polar-heart-rate-monitors-interval-training.html Maybe not a cheapo!
  • Interval Training With Polar Heart Rate Monitors For many of us, treadmills and stationary bikes are a necessity, not a want – we need to use them when it’s raining buckets outside, when the temperatures are a bit too frosty for us to hit that pavement, or if we live in an area that unfortunately isn’t running and…
  • ^^ See above. Great post.
  • I have a client who is 55. She started her journey with me at 200 lbs. She is now 160 lbs and at her goal weight!! She has had a knee replacement but is still kicking butt and taking names. Her knee is stronger than ever. She does things that 25 year olds can't do including swinging at 25 lb kettle bell for over 2 minutes,…
