I typically take a day every 2 weeks to just stretch, not exactly rest but makes me feel great.

I get ~300 miles out of a pair of Hoka One One Bondi's. Running shoes have lifespans, replacing them is just part of the sport.

"Seems like, for the study, the intensity of the cardio was decently hard. More than most do." A 60 min Zone 2/3 (70% max HR) workout is not something that someone new to aerobic exercise should just jump into. For those with some conditioning, this would just be a good workout. Might be a bit more than most people do on a…

I've got a couple of pairs of Yurbuds that I use for wired sound while on elliptical, treadmill, etc. For wireless, I have a Motorola Boom earpiece I use. I don't often listen to music while lifting (this is when I principally wear the earpiece) mostly listen to the news or podcasts.

Swimming does little to gain bulk as it is a low-resistance exercise. How many huge swimmers you see in the Olympics? They have large shoulders but that comes from years of training and genetics.

1) Weights (Combo of machines, free weights and kettlebells) 2) Elliptical 3) Treadmill I am running on the treadmill right now as it is so hot in Florida during the summer. Once the weather gets cooler I will start running outside again. Spent some time on a stair mill for the first time the other day and it kicked my…

Again, why are you sprinting? As a calorie burning exercise running is second to none, but I'm not sure sprinting is the best approach.

Running can be pretty boring without some entertainment. I usually listen to podcasts, and sometimes music or the news. Without some form of audio entertainment it just wouldn't be bearable.
-
Illness whacks my running fitness FAR more than any other discipline. Be patient and get well.

Consistently tightening my belt 1 notch and I can see the second coming in the near future

BTW, 2100 was my total burn running my last half marathon
-
Honestly, those numbers seem a bit high to me. Your burn rates go way up when you increase your exertion levels over walking. Does your fitbit have a heart rate monitor (HRM) function in it? If not, those burn rates are just guesses, and not especially good ones at that. The fitbit HRM is not that great anyways, using a…

I have found my weight has a huge effect on my speed. At my top weight I would be a bit under 14:00/mile. If I get my BMI <28, I am at 12:00/mile.

I too use a treadmill when traveling. I have taken falls and scraped myself up pretty bad - twice. I now use the hotel gym rather than going outside for runs.

460 cal/hour is a pretty good aerobic burn rate, that is approximately my rate in a moderate spin class. You really need to wear a heart rate monitor and get a more accurate idea of calorie consumption and even that would be potentially inaccurate. I think that sijomial's idea that you figure in into your daily activity to…

How about a string trimmer?

Probably the best is aqua jogging. Besides that elliptical trainers might be doable with your toe, you will need to try and see, same with stationary bikes. Having shot rotator cuffs myself, I can tell you that you should be able to recover, just go slow with any exercise that requires putting your hands over your head…

Exactly this. Once you know what shoe fits you and you find a model(s) that work for you cruise the online shops for bargains. Might mean a weird color but I don't really care. I run in Hoka One One Bondi's they retail for $160, I don't think I've paid over $65 for a pair of them ever. Two pairs will last me about one…

I did 40 mins on the elliptical last night and my quads felt like I got a decent burn. RPE was a bit off because I was, of course, inside vs being outside (in Florida humidity) running. But I got what I needed: an aerobic workout while taxing my knee lightly. I do plan on biking as well, I just needed a short-term fill in…

Yep, swam in middle, high school and a year in college. Swim fairly regularly still, but its hard to get excited about it any more.
-
Honestly, I think that cardio vs strength training have largely non-overlapping effects for me. I am 59, zero meds, blood pressure same as my 23 yo daughter, and can keep up an active lifestyle. All of this I attribute to running, biking and swimming regularly. The cardio does take its toll on my body (stiffness mostly)…

You don't really need to exercise to lose weight, that is all about caloric deficit so don't expect it to break through a plateau without being careful about what you are eating. With that said, it will help you burn calories and improve your overall health. As snowflake stated, I would work with your trainer to design an…

Had a wise man tell me: "Never shake hands with a runner wearing one sock" Words to live by.
-
I agree, if you have the time for 2 hr workouts and don’t feel too sore or tired to do it again then go for it. You will need to work in some rest days, they are important too
-
Got it, thanks

RunKeeper pretty popular as is Strava. You will need to take a smart phone with GPS with you on the run.
-
If I have the time I add in a 20-30 min run in the morning when I can. As shred indicates, it really helps push the calorie deficit. adding in a walk should not be difficult, you could build to running with c25k.
-
Lots of people use c25k because it works.
-
Take a look at the seats that professional racers use, uber thin and rock hard. It doesn't take that long to get used to a seat if it fits you well.
-
I agree, you are describing circuit training
