Hello Chocolate, My Old Friend.
-
Me too; I'm not generally a mayo fan. When I make cole slaw, it's with vinegar; for potato salad, oil and vinegar.
-
We grew up on instant mashed potatoes: our mother worked fulltime, and they were a real time saver for her. While I do like mashed potato made from whole potatoes better, I have no complaint about instant.
-
I'll take them pretty much any time.

Depends on what you're after (as always). For me, these fruits give me a nice boost of potassium to balance out the sodium I have to be careful about. They're also nicely hydrating; and if you're an old-time sailor at sea on a long voyage, citrus fruit will certainly do you some good.

Oh, I like in in a tuna salad.

Today, I baked a nice number of Japanese sweet potatoes, and made a lovely warm salad by saute-ing the greens and twice cooking the potato. Came out nice.

Unless, of course, it's hot chocolate...

For fun, here is an expert on the art of dunking: Clark Gable, in "It Happened One Night", schooling Claudette Colbert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7bMooFibAM.

There's a very nice pizza place practically around the corner from our house; when we moved in, we had lots of their offerings, and the food is good. Their pizza is definitely better than any I could make; and we buy from them more than usual now, to help keep them going.

That's an interesting one: I've had grilled cheese with tomato; have never even thought of using ketchup. Wouldn't the sweetness clash with the cheese a little? Maybe?
-
I generally agree, except in a few cases; but if I know the person who's made the soup, or if I've made it, it's a wonderful, nourishing offering.
-
Agree about home-baked bread: I started because I have to watch my salt intake and commercial bread can be high in sodium. First loaves were very sad, but after keeping at it, I can pull out a decent hunk of bread. I don't go the sourdough route because I know I'd forget to take care of it and it would suffer; but you…

Ah, we part company here: I've never been fond of pork, and I've found that sometimes I have a negative reaction to it anyway. And I dislike fatty meat. For me it's lean all the way.

For me, rice may be a waste of space, but sometimes there's nothing quite as soothing to my belly than a bowl of rice or buttered noodles. I don't have it often, because I do agree that calorically speaking, there are better ways. But once in a while, I really want it.

And see, I don't worry about my underdone eggs because, as with most proteins, I like my eggs "cooked": sunny side up with crispy whites; no liquid in my scrambles; toasty gold omelets. Our half-Spanish family loves a tortilla espanol, which is an omelet with potato and onion; you need a little daring to make it because it…

Generally agree with this: I like it plain and then add my own, to my own weird specifications.

I like it; always have. But I have discovered that gelato tastes best when you have it in a friendly little restaurant in Rome, opposite Santa Maria Maggiore, lemon flavored and served inside hollowed out lemon. Ideally, this should happen in the very late evening, after a full day of walking and soaking in as much as…

People can be so horrible. You are wonderful for taking in this pretty tiny Monster.

Finally! An incentive for this city dweller to go camping! With my nephew and plenty of sweet potatoes.
-
For me, the best way to eat a sweet potato is roasted until weeping, and then just eaten plain, skin and all.

These AND Oreos..... Also, you know there's a method of eating these cookies: nibble around the cookie part first, then the chocolate frame, then finally around and into the little fellow at center. Yes, it takes me a long time to eat a cookie.

You have a pomegranate tree?! How very cool. I managed a trip to Italy and saw a couple of pomegranate trees.
-
Perhaps. But these days, you can buy pomegranate seeds pre-harvested, and enjoy them without going out in the back yard with a bowl of water .... and I personally do like the taste of the seeds and feel they go nicely in a salad as well as on their own.

My nephew and I had a lot of fun with pomegranates: I had told him the story of Persephone and Hades. He was curious about the fruit that condemned Persephone to half a year underground, so I bought one. My sister refused to let us play with it in her kitchen, so we took the pomegranate, a knife and a bowl of water to the…

I first heard this on an episode of "Chopped". It was flung at a contestant who had dared to do such a thing, during the course of a show whose very concept is the bringing together of food that doesn't belong together. The judge, who I believe was Scott Conant, was horrified. Indignant. He snapped at the contestant and…

I do have trouble dealing with frozen spinach, the texture and wetness of which I don't like; but leaf and/or baby spinach I find quite nice, treating it like kale or lettuce, including it in salads without a gripe.

Thank you for that advice - the squash looks very pretty! I'll definitely go on the hunt for it. Thanks again!

I'm a relatively recent squash convert. I have a lot of fun with spaghetti squash. Acorn is perhaps my least favorite. I like butternut. However. Butternut is hard to cut and peel, and I live alone with two cats who can't dial 911 for me. So I treat the butternut like an oversized potato: pre-heat the oven, poke some holes…

My standard breakfast is some sort of oat-included bread/pancake/waffle with fruit, typically a banana. The last couple of weeks, I've indulged in Thomas corn muffins instead of oaty stuff, but will be returning to my regular fare next week. I don't care for pork, but have seen plenty of cooking shows combining apples with…
