  • Have you ever done a pull up? Dead lifted your body weight? Leg pressed 300 lbs? Not boring. Be awesome.
  • Thanks folks! My asthma is better, I have been doing well for about 10 days now (in total it was 6-7 weeks of rest). During my many dr. Visits I was diagnosed with COPD due to chronic asthma, and I still have all the scar tissue from long term ventilator support during infancy. My FEV1 was in the 60% range. I have been…
  • I am 65 pounds lighter than at my heaviest non-pregnant weight, 85-90 pounds lighter than heaviest pregnant weight, had huge babies, c sections, and carry most excess weight in my tummy. 30 of the pounds have come off in the last 5 months. My skin will never be the same. There is less of it, though. At 5'10" and 165 pounds…
  • Because I am just a few months ahead of you and also bought a cheap denali that I think I hate and I do about 20 miles per ride, hoping to go with a group for a 60 mile ride this summer, and my sit bones aren't well cushioned> PADDED SHORTS!!!! World changing! Even the cheap ones!
  • Yep, you can do it. You say you have decent upper body strength (do you lift? That will help. You need a strong back for paddle racing.) practice with a kayak all you can. I just did a similar race last month, the lady who was launching beside me had never kayaked in her life, won first place for her age group (probably 10…

  • @SingingSingleTracker thanks for the advice. I was so artificially pumped by my ride wednesday...now I'm just hoping to finish!
  • Seriously tho, seated rows with low weight and hi reps if you want cardio, seated lat pull downs, seated triceps, crunches (with or without weight), assisted pull ups and dips (on your knees), bench presses, bicep curls with dumbells...on and on and on. For cardio: low weight, lots of reps. Just hang out in the weight room…
  • Sobbing into kleenex while gazing forlonly at the track.
  • No reason why you shouldn't be able to. Wear a binder as your provider prescribes. Eat less, move more. Inquire about exercise to stregthen the rectus abdominus. Google rectus diastasis, you will see some ripped 6 packs with a nice separation at the belly button. Lift weights to build muscle, which will increase how many…
  • I would agree with recovery benefits...the theory behind compression is that it hastens venous return to the heart (and is used for bedridden and other high risk for embolism patients). The gastocnemius in ambulatory people effectively "milks" blood up the veins against gravity when it contracts. The veins have valves in…

  • I dont know much about foam rollers, but yes, you can get flexibility back. I went thru a few weeks of tightness in the hams, IT, quads and lower back. I can now put my palms flat on the floor while standing. Without ever rolling.
  • So glad to have found a thread! I just started riding again for the first time in years! I have probably ridden 50 miles in the last 2 weeks. I very foolishly signed up for my first race two weeks out with ZERO training. It's this weekend (kayakalon, 1k paddle, 25k bike, 5k run). I struggled through five torturous miles…
  • ^^^^ whatever this guy says is awesome. Yoga is where it's at for developing balance. I started with planks and free weights to get strong. Hand stands are a long term goal. I still have to use the wall. I did catch a crow pose for a hot second once!
  • I do 5 minutes on the elliptical as fast as i can between rotations. A rotation on arms/ chest day consists of pull ups, reverse incline crunches with a plate or medicine ball, tricep presses, etc. for as many reps as i can pull (6-20, depending on how heavy), then the elliptical for 5 minutes flat out, then another round…
  • I just camped and got in 2 1/2 hrs of canoeing a day and bicycling on top of that. For strength training (little bits) I did cart wheels with the kids, my usual hand stands, hand stand push ups, planks, body weight squats and wall sits, other yoga stuff (warrior 2, etc), all geared as play time contests with the kids. They…
  • No energy at all for at least 4 days. My water retention translates to BLUE joint pain. I am no good at anything for 4 days. It's okay to rest. Those hormones serve a purpose. I don't need an injury!
  • @ yiraara I found my hands so sweaty I couldn't hold the bar. I changed my grip and added gloves, then added 40# 3 days later. My max is a pitiful 165, haven't been working on them long, and (gasp), coming off an injury.
  • Prednisone changes everything, alters your ADH in addition to every other renal and adeno hormone. Your water retention weight is going to be difficult to account for (you obviously know that) without having a dry weight to compare to (pre and post diuresis or retention, with stable body weight, which you don't have…
  • Everything i know is a lie http://youtu.be/7BBrBze0ysI
  • @Ilovefastball 99, how tall are you? I am really struggling with form and not pushing my knees out over my feet. I do 100's of body weight squats against a wall to correct it before i get under the bar. My trainer is like a foot shorter than me (literally) and makes it look so freakin easy.
  • I havent done heavy free weights yet other than dead lifts, waiting for my trainer to teach them to me so i dont hurt myself. That being said, i can very uncomfortably do 5 deadlifts at 125#. And shoulder press with a 40 # bar. Sore for days after those shoulder presses! Lots of planking and push ups, up to 85 # assisted…
  • I'm having fun with it. I can do so much more now (like every day stuff, at work, at home), my upper body strength is awesome and makes every day activities more enjoyable, can do them longer, and I do not get fatigued. Sorry my ignorance caused such a hubbub. I love being strong! Endorphins are awesome!
  • No, not a barbell back squat, thinking my trainer uses different terminology or was trying to boost my ego when she taught me that machine.
  • I go as far down as i can, til i feel it in my butt, i dont have an angle to measure with, but my knee pit touches (is that a thing?), meaning the top of my gastrocnemius touches the bottom of my ham
  • At any rate, it was awesome, my *kitten* is sore. It's a work in progress.
  • Its not a leg press machine. I was standing.
