  • I always go over my fat macros, but find it doesn't matter as long as the overall calories are right. I find that low carb is eminently more achievable in terms of hunger and taste than low fat or low protein. I agree, low fast products are not a sustainable or healthy choice. But for a yummy salad dressing try a mild…
  • Challenge Start Weight:59.3kg Challenge Goal Weight: 57kg Weigh-in #1: Weigh-in #2: 59.3 Weigh-in #3: 58.7 Weigh-in #4: Weigh-in #5: 60.3 Weigh-in #6: 59.5 Positive thought: As of yesterday, I am back within my calorie limit. I am fitter than I have been in a long time and in spite of the wobbly last 3 weeks, this is by…
  • thanks from me also! I teach at uni and the semester is always a gruelling 12 weeks. My stress levels go up and my appetite follows suit. I'm doing better than previously in terms of exercise and trying to maintain something like a social life, but my summer serenity has gone (i live in the southern hemisphere, so this is…
  • Weigh-in #5 Challenge Start Weight:59.3kg Challenge Goal Weight: 57kg Weigh-in #1: Weigh-in #2: 59.3 Weigh-in #3: 58.7 Weigh-in #4: Weigh-in #5: 60.3 A positive thought I had this week was: Lots of exercise and I am fitter than I thought. A big hike saved my calory average last week. My weight dropped to glorious 58.2 for…
  • I missed the weigh-in for this week. Probably not much change anyway. A positive thought: Suprisingly, I survived (and even enjoyed) a difficult overnight hike in the Victorian Alps with a full pack. I might be fitter than I thought? The hike also put my calorie average for the week straight again. Phew! Healthy meal:…
  • My total for this week: 190 minutes (cycling) & 630 minutes (hiking) Group total: 1763 Cycled to work 3 times and went on an overnight hike on the weekend. - Probs the most active week of my life. :-)
  • Thanks guys! I know it will take time. Im peone to injuries so might try with 2 times a week for now. What you say about strength before visible results makes sense. Thanks also for the link! Will have a look. Im trying to work up the courage to even go i to gym and weight lifting territory as ive always been more of a…
  • Challenge Start weight: 59.3kg Goal weight 57 Weigh-In #2: 59.4 Weig-In #3: 58.7kg Lots of positive thoughts this week: 1. It's been 15 years since I last saw the number 58 on a scale! I am absolutely chuffed. 2. I've had a big food bingy weekend and was so relieved that the scales haven't gone up. 3. I've lost a pound in…
  • Weigh in 59.4 Start weight 59.3 Goal weight 57 positive thought I had this week was: i started losing weight over summer when work was quiet. Now its busy and stressful again and ive just had a spring break with family which meant lots of food and wine. I was worried I'd fall off the wagon because things feel a bit looser…
  • Hi there, I'm also new and keen to join! :-)
  • Definitely moderation - but it's the whole mindset attached to it. All or nothing (my natural tendency) always resulted in a period of fierce nothing and then a depressing lapse into everything. So now I have a treat everyday but try to really enjoy it and make it count mentally so I can say "it's okay, ive had enough. I…
  • After losing the plot for a few days, I don't give up so easily anymore, but come back to tracking and exercising again.
  • I hear you! I find that not denying but delaying the food helps. Instead of saying "I can't have that" I try to say "I can have that in 10 minutes", then go and do something. Often I find 10 minutes later, the craving is gone. Not a foolproof method. Tracking definitely works. If nothing helps, I second gusnglory6 -…
  • Hi, I'm 42 and tackling those last 5 pounds. Slow but steady. Feel free to add me. We're gonna get there eventually! :-)
  • The last 5 pounds are hard. Yes to logging down to the gram. In fact, I find it helpful to cheat myself by adding 10grams here and there and NEVER choosing the lowest calory option from the food lists. I found the one best thing I have done is train myself down on portion sizes and listen to my body: when I feel full, I…
  • Hey guys, thanks for your responses and putting things in perspective. My new 'normal' is not about deprivation (I manage to eat at least one cookie and have a little glass of port almost every day :-) - but it's about listening to my body rather than just shovelling dinner in because it's a way to relax, to feel more…
  • @bribucks I bought "The Anatomy of Stretching" a while ago and it's been a really useful resource because it lists stretches by muscle group and also mentions what conditions/complaints they address. https://www.amazon.com/Anatomy-Stretching-Second-Illustrated-Rehabilitation/dp/1583943714 But if you have tight hips, it…
  • Thanks for your replies! I am a bit over my grump, I guess. Yes, I do track religiously & my clothes are feeling heaps better already. - A source of endless delight at the moment :-) I just want to get back to weight I had all through my twenties and have a comfortable margin, so that if I gain a pound sometimes, I won't…
  • After doing about an hour of hip & back stretches every day for two weeks solid, I discovered that I can suddenly reach across my back for my hands to touch again. - Couldn't do that for years! Very handy for zipping up dresses. :-)
  • To fit back into my favourite high-waisted pants by March. I'm only an inch or so away. It's gotta be possible, goddamnit!
  • Bought the most awesomest pair of mustard yellow summer pants before Xmas at a sale where I couldn't try them. Came home and sadly wrote them off as an overly ambitious purchase - they would never fit me. Ever. Guess what - they now do!!! Wearing them day in day out. They scales haven't moved that much, but my waistline…
  • Thanks, REady2Rock & Nony_Mouse! I'm 42 years old, so we are quite similar. I understand that I won't have much room to play with, but from experience 1200cals is too hard in the long run. So, I thought I'd go slower and was surprised to find the numbers remained the same. I top it up with exercise, but can't exercise…
  • I hear you! Or body is the place where we hold all our emotional tension. So crying at the workout might be a form of much needed relief - better to cry it all out than holding it in and stifling the pain with cake and fries. You're brave to get back to the gym (or whatever you're doing in your workout) - be gentle and…
  • Yep, am on 1200 and find it a bit depressing to stay in that limit without exercise sometimes. I eat a few exercise calories back, but make sure there is still a good few left. Most days I manage to finish at 1000-1100cals. I often have one day where I go significantly over my cals, but I look at the whole week and as long…
  • I recommend making a big pot of soup or a batch of simple spaghetti sauce (or whatever takes your fancy), portion it and defrost it after work. That way you only have to cook one or two big dishes on the weekend and won't have to worry for the next 4-5 days. In terms of money: eggs are healthy, cheap and easy to cook. They…
  • Thanks, Glassofroses - that's very generous! :-) I agree with what you posted about the fixation on numbers. At 63.5kg this morning, I suddenly fit back into my old jeans! I used to wear them at a much lower weight. Heaven knows how it happend, but oddly enough losing weight is not a numbers game. As for life-changing ...…
  • My goal weight is 58kg - the weight I had before I moved continents and started a slow upward trend that made me gain 10kg in as many years. I kicked into gear before my 40th birthday and vowed to get it off to start the new decade with my old, "real" weight. It was an awful struggle and I couldn't quite get below 61kg.…
  • The patience that is needed - in my mind I'm so proud of staying on track (mostly) for 6 weeks and am feeling all enthusiastic, but of course I'll need months before the scales and the mirror will hopefully reflect the image I already have of myself in my head.
  • While the scales haven't been moving much (frustration!), I suddenly miraculously fit into my measuring pants again this morning. - An old pair of skinny jeans without stretch. They are still a bit tight, but I can close the button and sit down without fainting. Definitely a NSV! :-)
  • Hi, there are lot of helpful posts around on the frustration of plateauing. - It's mean, it's not right and everyone just wants to stick their head in the sands. General advice seems to involve shaking up your routines: try some different workouts; mix up your calorie intake (eat over one day, then fast the next) to kick…
