  • Singing (intentionally) and talking on the phone at the gym rank up there with not wiping down your machines as rude and entitled behavior. If you need to socialize on the phone go outside. If you need to discuss something for work go outside.
  • And this right here is the attitude that just stinks about runners. Well this and the rest of the posts going on about how much they love running and how glad they have more room since we anti-runners aren't out there. Seriously not necessary; take it somewhere else and leave us anti-runners to discuss our alternatives.
  • It's sure nice to see so many running people in here expressing their joy they have more space due to us anti-running people! I'm glad to be of service! GWehsling - I will look into hashing. Maybe that will be something fun (or social). I decided one more thing can get me to run. Dinosaurs. The ones that see you, period.…
  • Celebrate the day and celebrate you. Do you workout but if you want to have some cake or a special dinner go for it. One day of indulgence doesn't negate the rest of your hard work. I'm not saying go eat a sheet cake but a slice of cake or dessert with a birthday dinner that blew your one day of calories out of the water…
  • Sushi is generally pretty healthy. Stay away from the krab salad rolls (rolls that are a modified CA roll such as a crunchy roll, rainbow roll, etc...) or ask for it without mayo. Hand rolls have less rice than regular rolls.

  • Make sure you don't have any other fitness trackers linked. My Fitbit never synced to MFP until removed my old UP band.

  • Someone asked if I'd run if there were zombies chasing me. I said Zombies plod along. I can walk at my normal speed and out pace them. Knife wielding killer clown with the promise of booze may get me to run but even then it's iffy. That's me! My BFFs heart is in the right place. She loves her 5ks and half-marathons and I…
  • I see the Jawbone UP band at Costco for $40ish. It's the one you plug in to your phone, not the UP24. Check Amazon for used ones; sometimes you can get a great deal. If all you want to do is track steps look at the Fitbit Zip or something that clips on to your pants, they are around your price range. I ended up sticking my…
  • Your kids can definitely help and take turns making something too. Now would be a great time to learn to cook [healthy] as a family. Searching for recipes online can be super overwhelming. I'd suggest picking up something like the Betty Crocker cookbook (the old skool red checkered one) and look it over with your kids.…
  • I rarely go to the movies and when I do it's a popcorn flick like Jurassic World. So I get popcorn with a bunch of crappy for you butter and drink water that I bring in (because theaters where I live don't care). Sure, I can go 2-3 hours without eating or snacking but I enjoy the hell out of movie popcorn, rarely go to the…
  • Scrubs and OTC anti-acne washes can make acne worse by irritating your skin. You may want to go gentler, something like Cetaphyl or a foaming wash by Simple (both available at Target). Wash your face with warm (not hot) water in the morning and the evening. If you're using a wash cloth to wash your face pat, don't rub it…
  • Hey, thank you for asking!
  • I think that is a great question. I feel like I could have written this post and would also like to know the answer.
  • 5ft 7, age 38. F, no kids. HW - 225 in my early 20s CW - 173(ish, bouning the same few pounds) GW1 - 170 (been trying for 4 years, this is as close as I've gotten) If I hit 170 I'm going to aim in 5lb increments. The lightest I've ever been was 149 when I was 24. I'm not sure my body will go that low again.
  • Woot! I forgot to mention that Costco is selling Coconut Dreams in Costco sized packages. Your diet will hate me. Your wallet will thank me!
  • For all you Samoa loving people (on the incredibly unlikely chance you didn't know)... Keebler's Coconut Dreams are Samoa's. They share the bakery with Little Brownie Baker, who makes Samoa's (not Caramel Delights). Yes, I know way to much about this. Samoa's for life! Down with Caramel Delights!
  • Ready2B - some people just like to criticize the choices others make. It's that dragging others down when feeling insecure about your own choices mentality. I rarely go to the movies and when I do it's to see a "popcorn flick" like Jurassic World. I get popcorn, dump "all of the butter" on it and enjoy the crap out of my…
  • Cooking is not hard. Baking is a science. Don't be afraid of cooking, if you can read and follow directions, you can cook. Chiliis super easy and fairy quick to prepare on the stove. Pick up a packet of chili spices at the store (with the rest of the McCormik envelop seasonings) buy what it says and cook. You can use…
  • I am late to the party but Trader Joe's partially popped popcorn is my new downfall. When I make popcorn (air popper) I always stop it early so I get lots of the crunchies. My dentist hates that I do it but (knock wood) I haven't had issues... yet. These seem to be happy medium though crunchies from the air popper don't…
  • I love Chipotle. I always order the same thing and it's about 1500 calories Bol Brown rice (I'll watch them, if they use huge servings I'll ask for half) Black Beans Veggies Steak Mild and corn sour cream cheese side of chips and guac I usually get it to go and plate it - sometimes I can get 3 meals out of it. Other times…
  • I get so bored at the gym but I have serious allergies that make strenuous exercise outside dangerous and difficult. So what I do is watch TV or a movie on my phone. I download or stream a show that I'd be watching at home and tell myself I'd be watching this at home anyway so I might as well be watching it at the gym.…
  • Ants on log (celery, nut butter, raisins) Apples with Peanut Butter Jell-o Jigglers (remember those? make a tray of jello with an extra package of Knox, harden and cut with cookie cutters) Hotdogopus (I realize a hot dog has to be cut for a toddler but you can present it in a cute shape). mini burritos dino nuggets This is…
  • You CAN do it. Your family sounds like a bunch of jerks. First thing first though - see a doctor, get a baseline of blood work, eliminate/treat/learn to manage any underlying issues you may have. Seek out a doctor to help with your depression. There is no shame in getting help to get healthy. Start small - instead of a…
  • I try to weigh everything (especially snack food) ahead of time and portion into single serving bags so I can grab one when I'm feeling snacky. I also use smaller plates and bowls so the serving sizes don't look small. If you make a sandwich on a small salad plate instead of a dinner plate it looks like more food.…
  • This so much! My trigger food is cheesy flavored snacks. Cheetos, cheese corn, Pirate Booty, whatever. Something in fake cheese triggers my brain to shove the bag in my face and I always feel disgusting after it. I've tried so hard to eat it in moderation, tried portioning into bags and it just doesn't work. So, if I want…
  • Depends what kind of sick. If it's just an allergy thing or I'm super tired because I partied a little too much I'd still force my self to go to the gym. If I was nauseous, had a cold (or anything that might possibly be contagious) I go home and rest.
  • Go to a store that specializes in running shoes. They will watch you walk and help you find shoes appropriate to your form. I needed stabilizing shoes (I wear Asics). Once you find a pair there you can buy the same shoes elsewhere. Any running store worth their weight will also have a good return policy accepting returns…
  • I buy a Kona blend at Sprouts and grind it in the store. I drink it black (sorry notsorry if that isn't deemed "helpful" per the OPs standards). @super_b_star - you may want to buy bulk coffee at a place like Sprouts where you can buy a little and try it out. Making coffee at home is a learning curve - you need to get the…
  • I am one of those people who can't eat a lot in the AM; the thought of eggs or meat at 6:30 am makes me nauseous. I am not nearly as strict with my calories / max allotment as a lot of people so with that said.... For breakfast I usually eat a Luna protein bar, or a Nutragrain bar (or similar). Lately I've been…
