Happy New Year and welcome! "One day at a time" is exactly how to look at it. Add me if you're still looking for MFP friends.

Good for you and welcome. My friends here have been essential. Add me if you're still looking for supportive MFP friends.

Good grief... if you just popped in to read this - ignore some of the overly negative posts. The sky is not falling, the article is not saying to give up cardio or that cardio is not good for you. It's simply saying that it seems weight lifting is as good for your heart as cardio. And if you do both, that's even better.…

Welcome! I'm 61 also... stay determined, don't give up, and you'll reach your goal - good luck!
-
ShellyMacchi - thank you! It's great you didn't just gain your weight all back - but recommitted and lost it again and sorry to hear about your bursitis. You're exactly right - never give and never surrender. I wanted to enter my 60s in decent shape, too... we fall apart soon enough without helping contribute through not…

Kimmotion5783, you've already done a phenomenal job. Kudos! noeliav633, you definitely WILL reach your goal - my best to you! Thank you both!
-
Thanks, fpoitr! Love the smiley face profile...
-
Thank you for the kind words - and you've done a great job, too. :)

Thanks and good for you with the measures you've already taken. Consider including progressive weight training with your weight loss regimen - and I think you'll be so very happy you did. You'll see your strength start to increase in just a few weeks and your shape can't help but change. "Progressive" is the key, slowly…

Thanks - and you look great! Very wise of you to start in your forties... I wish I would have done that... 😬😑 but better late than never. Anyone reading - you're NEVER too old to start weight lifting. Don't worry about what ginormous weights others lift - you're only in competition with yourself. Get to a gym and do it!

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! ( :D :D :D I kid, I kid! ) Seriously, thanks - and I read your profile - and glad to hear your knee is better. I imagine it was tough overcoming that.
-
Thank you both so much! :)

Thanks, Karlus - and congrats on losing the 20 lbs and good luck on the surgery. I really think it's important to lift WHILE losing weight. Many people think, "well, I can't gain muscle while on a calorie deficit, so I'll wait until I reach my weight loss goal before weight lifting." But think about it - the muscle fibers…

Thank you! :)

Thanks, NextPage - I have a confession to make - I didn't post my routine, as I don't follow my own advice. :# :| It is best to select a proven routine from experts... having said that, I sorta created my own routine for various valid reasons and it works for me. I looked up the sticky, shown below, that lists great…

Thank you! I've varied my routine several times since I started. Currently doing a full body, 3 day per week. I see this was your first post - I'm certainly no expert - but I'd encourage you to look for the sticky on lifting programs and select a proven routine - or at least include the old school major compound exercises.…

Thanks! :)

Keto Vampire (love your username. Lol.) Thanks and you're exactly right. I see many people my age that just think it's too late to start weight lifting - but of course, it isn't. I know at some point, I won't make gains - but I'm going to keep going as long as I can... it's become a good habit.
-
Thanks EVGuy1 (got an electric car?), JonesJennings, jdubois5351! And 4Pop, I agree, it is tougher to start lifting when older (you look great btw!) ... but so rewarding, not only aesthetically - but stronger legs, core, etc. provide real world benefits as we age.
-
Thank you - and you're exactly right ... no matter the age, lifting does our bodies good.
-
Ha. Thanks so much!
-
Thanks and congrats to you on your great progress. I couldn't agree more - its never too late. If anyone reading this is on the fence - start a lifting routine now!
-
Funny you should mention trouble with your left knee - I have the same. Losing some weight but especially building muscle around my left knee area helped me significantly. It's now an infrequent inconvenience instead of a constant irritant and ache. Progressive weight lifting has changed so many things for the better for…

Thank you, everyone! Jan0404 - you made my day... so glad this motivated you in your journey! :)

Funny thread - so many methods! Lol. I bring the water to a boil, then put eggs in and set the oven timer for 14 minutes. Remove and put in an ice bath - then into the fridge. That's it. Simple and the yolks are light and fluffy and no green rind around them - and they always peel clean.

I'm 60 and been here almost 3 years! Add me, you can do this!

I add a scoop of flavored protein powder as my creamer alternative... it sweetens and flavors my coffee - plus gives me a big protein helping to start the day. Yeah, I know... weird... and not for everyone - but works for me. Had mocha cappuccino swirl in my coffee this morning, but I alternate between various chocolate,…

Everyone feel free to add me, if you wish... I'm almost to 1,000 days on MFP and have logged every day of it. Good luck to everybody!

I'm going to turn 60 in two months. I was in truly terrible shape two years ago when I determined to lose weight and start progressive weight training. I love it - it makes you feel and look good. This may sound negative... but If you depend on being nagged by others in order to get your act together - you probably never…
