  • Plan ahead and look at menus online. Can you bring along some of your favorite snacks? If you're staying at a hotel use their fitness room. Vacation time is really hard for me. Research restaurants and food choices ahead of time if possible. Only eat half your meal at a restaurant.
  • I add about one tablespoon of chia seeds to my yogurt. And sprinkle it on my salad as well. It works well in oatmeal also.
  • I'm trying to get more fiber in my diet, so I'm eating more "seeds". I love yogurt, and throw about one tabl of chia seeds in my yogurt. I also sometimes just throw chia seeds into my salad, or oatmeal as well. They are pretty tasteless. No need to soak them ahead of time.
  • Most hotels will have a fitness room. Take advantage of that and try to get some exercise in. Have a salad at dinner first, and cut back on the main portion. Just try not to go crazy.
  • When was the last time you had your blood checked for glucose levels? If you are on the verge of being diabetic it could be a wake up call for eating right. Take it one day at a time. Think 10 pounds for your first goal. Do you have a friend who can help you with this? It helps to have a partner. Exercise helps as well.…
  • Have you had any other tests done? Like the Hemoglobin A1C? I think that's also done to give you an indication of your average blood sugar over a few months. Has the Dr put you on an suggested eating plan? I'm not an expert on this, I'm not diabetic. Is your doctor a specialist or a GP? I would definitely seek nutritional…
  • Are you excited about your food? Do you desire it? Is it possible you start out hungry and then look at your food and don't really want those healthy vegetables anymore?
  • Can you bring along a cooler? String cheese and an apple is a great snack. Or some healthy crackers and peanut butter. I agree with the previous posters who suggested eating something at three. I understand being tired when you get home. Can you prepare something in a crockpot so it's ready for you?

  • A lot of where you shop will depend on what type of style you like. Do you work? Do you need a certain style for your job? I love to shop, and even losing 5 lbs would have me out shopping! But I also shop at thrift stores a lot. My personal favorite stores are JJILL and Chicos. Don't be afraid to go into smaller stores to…
  • I have the Jawbone Up Move. I just got it a few days ago and I love it. At first I couldn't decide what to get. I originally wanted a watch like tracker but this one is a clip on. I have it clipped to my bra and never even notice it's there. I have the Up app on my IPad and it sinks with that via blue tooth. Also MFP is…
  • I agree with the poster that said one drink won't kill you calorie wise. But again the problems are that having a drink could cause you to loose control and have another and then just start eating all that delicious party food! I would suggest go to the party and start drinking water or diet stuff in the beginning. After…
  • I've been doing this for about 2 months now. And it is really frustrating in the beginning because I just felt those pounds should be falling off. I've lost 8 lbs so far but it hasn't always been consistent. I got a scale about a week ago and it's been really helpful for a lot of things. I don't weigh things like peanut…

  • I just got the Jawbone Up Move. It's on sale now for 39.99. I wanted something entry level that was cheap. Today was my first day of logging steps. I like that it sinks to MFP. I don't think I'll make 10,000 steps today but I'm just starting out!

  • My kids love that yogurt. I like it too, but sometimes I take half the container and add some regular plain Greek yogurt to it. We like the honey, lemon, and blueberry flavors. One time I found some on sale for a dollar apiece and went crazy. I also put hempseeds in it.
  • I always try to be consistent and use the same scale all the time. I would pick one scale and just use that one.
  • I scan a lot of my food. Using the bar code on the container makes it easy.
  • I love shopping at Goodwill. You can find some nice stuff if you're willing to dig. Depending where you live the plus size clothing isn't the greatest, which is one of the reasons I want to get out of my 1x tops. Much better selection of clothing. It's so much fun to get into smaller sizes isn't it?
  • I'm confused. What do you mean by clean eating?
  • I've tried as well. Got it connected one time and after that, nothing. I've seen other threads with people having the same problem. So no solution here, just wanted to let you know it's probably not you.
  • The same thing happened to me. I just started about six weeks ago logging everything and watching my calories. I've lost about 5 lbs so far. I have to say I'm eating a lot better now and I know my weight is going to come off if I just stick to this. It's amazing how full I can feel on 1300 calories a day so I know I'm…
  • I try to look for snacks that will fill me up between meals. My favorite is a sliced apple with just a small smidge of peanut butter on each slice. Or an apple with a Mozzarella cheese stick.
  • I got it to connect once. But never again. I thought it was just me being stupid so I gave up. I go the same route everyday anyway.
  • I'm 5.5 and weigh 191. I take a size 16. I have my weight around the middle and my hips and thighs are slender. So I mostly wear elastic waist pants in a size large. I love all the really stretchy fabrics that are really forgiving.

  • Thanks for posting this article. It was interesting. Since I'm only been on this program for 5 weeks I'm definitely counting calories. Later on, maybe not so much. But I'm trying to make my calories count by eating the right combination of foods as well. It's very motivating for me to read weight loss articles, so thanks…
  • I've only been doing this for a little over a month. One thing I've noticed is I'm eating healthier now that I'm counting calories. I don't want to waste calories eating junk food that really adds up. Do you cook for your son as well? Eating healthier will help him as well. Like other people have said, I try not to let…
  • I've only been doing this for a month, so I'm fairly new. I ate crap before, so I knew if I just cut back it wouldn't work for me. I can't control myself with the potato chips and dip. I have been inputting everything I eat, and paying attention to the recommended nutrients. I'm really trying to eat more fiber and drink…
  • I love Costco. Have one piece of that cinnamon bread and freeze the rest. Are you sorry you bought the dark chocolate stuff? Take it back! You don't have to keep any of that stuff. I can certainly understand being tempted. Have one serving and put the rest away. My weakness is the pizza. I just love it but it has 700…
  • I just started about 10 days ago myself. I've lost one pound so far. But what's even better for me is I've been really good at tracking my calories. MFP makes it so easy. I agree with you, the community on here is just great. I also like reading all the blogs on this site.
  • Hi everyone, my name is Karen. I'm 62 and just started using MFP this week. I just finished my 6th day. I have four kids, 24,23,21, and 17. I never had a weight problem growing up, and even after my 4th child was born at the age of 45 I was doing fine. But the stress of working full time, and having four young children…
