  • squats and deadlifts with free weights are a good option. Smith Machine is good too, especially if you want to go really heavy with no spotter, but it's probably safer to have someone spot you.
  • I agree that rest and muscle relaxers won't fix the problem. What exactly is TENS?
  • The yoga exercises that moyer566 linked to would probably be good for you if you're already in pain. I just started doing Foundation Training by Dr. Goodman, but it's too early to tell if it will prevent back pain. That's why I was looking for someone who's been doing it for a while. So far it's good and it definitely…
  • What kind of stretches do you do for the back? When I injured my back the first time, I thought it would be a good idea to try to hang from a chin up bar to stretch my back, but it seemed to make it worse at the time.

Doc gave me some muscle relaxers and pain meds. A little over a week ago after a run, my back pain returned. It didn't happen right…
  • Thanks! Someone in the gym today actually told me that I should run in the street instead of the sidewalk. I never thought about it being softer than the concrete. I will do that from now on and think about your tips and "three F's" on my next hill.
  • This is a great post. I have a question and maybe you can help me out. Sometime around last summer I fell going down a hill. I was on the sidewalk and tripped over some uneven piece. I blamed my glasses and not being able to see it. Now I never wear my glasses on a run (only contacts). Ever since then, I'm scared to speed…
