I'm 5'7" and currently 139 pounds. I am definitely not skinny. I would describe myself as curvy. I am still trying to lose 5-10 pounds but I accept that at this stage weight loss is very slow. Body composition varies wildly as does personal preference. Don't worry too much about the number on the scale or about what other…

Orthorexia was the stepping stone to full blown anorexia for my sister. I think it is an important classification. Everyone who excludes foods from their diet is not orthorexic. But the diagnosis can be made when someone's diet becomes obsessive to the point of seriously affecting quality of life. I agree that we live in a…

I have celiac. Feel free to add me!

I'm no expert but it seems like you are describing symptoms of anxiety brought on by calorie counting. Especially the jaw tightness and the inability to eat despite being very hungry. Have you ever had issues with disordered eating? MFP is great but it is not the only way to lose weight. If you think you are becoming…

Pho is Vietnamese. You might find both at an Asian-fusion restaurant but not an authentic Thai place. I love Thai food. Probably your best bet would be a salad or a stir fry rather than curry (although curry is delicious). Also consider eating only some of the rice that is served. Enjoy your night out!

I almost started tearing up reading this. My twin sister is currently suffering from anorexia. She doesn't use my fitness pal (as far as I know) but I know she obsessively counts calories. She was recently hospitalized with life threatening pneumonia at the age of 24 due to her anorexia. I wish I had something helpful to…

Here is what I did. I weighed apple cores a few times (when it was convenient) and the average was about 20g. Now I weigh my whole apples and subtract 20g from the weight. Alternatively you can weigh several of your apples when you get home from the grocery store and use the average as an estimate for the weight. I do this…

I have celiac and it took me a while to get diagnosed. Part of the problem is that most doctors are taught that celiac is a very rare disease when it may not be as rare as was once thought. Like others have said, you would have to be eating gluten for several weeks before you could have the test done. I also wanted to…

I really just wanted to start a discussion on a controversial topic I had been thinking about. I feel awful if I came off that way and probably could have spent more time to formulate my thoughts better. I am in medical school studying with a special focus on community health so public health issues are important to me. I…

I have the same height/weight (5"7.5' and 140lbs) and goals as you. It is hard when you don't have much to lose but I think your goals seem reasonable as long as you stay dedicated to your plan. You may or may not reach 130 by July but you can definitely get close. Goals can be a good motivator but I try not to focus too…

Fair enough. Probably read too much into it. My apologies for getting my wires crossed.

I do agree that some people complain of 'bloating' when they eat too much (especially women) because society bombards us with images of flat stomached models all the time. Of course everyone is going to have a little 'bloat' after they eat. But for some people with digestive disorders (I have celiac disease and IBS)…
-
I have significant bloating every time I eat more than a small meal but I have pretty awful IBS. If you are having a lot of gastrointestinal distress it might be worth seeing a doctor. Or you may want to wait it out and see if it gets better as you get used to the higher calorie goal. After all, when you are at maintenance…

SMH. It's militant vegetarians/vegans like you that give the rest of us such a negative reputation. It is fine to have your ethical beliefs but you don't have to attack meat-eaters. It's petty and does nothing to improve animal welfare. To the omnivores out there I promise not all vegetarians are so self-righteous.…

I like diet soda and drink it maybe once a week. I would probably drink it more often if it didn't bother my stomach so much. Artificial sweeteners can cause digestive issues, migraines, or cravings in SOME individuals but if you don't have a bad reaction then I see no reason to cut it out.

I do not have an ED but both my twin sister and my older sister have suffered from anorexia. My aunt died from the disease. I just want to say I recognize the bravery it takes to seek treatment. My older sister is recovered but my twin sister's anorexia is currently active and she refuses to see a therapist. It is so hard…

I really can sympathize with feeling awful and wanting a diagnosis. No one is calling you lazy or saying that you are imagining your symptoms. Your symptoms fit a variety of conditions and settling with a false diagnosis of Adrenal Fatigue could prevent you from finding the actual source of your symptoms (and the proper…

I think you are talking about salivating in anticipation of eating something. This is normal and it doesn't necessarily indicate true hunger. If it's just a craving, ignore it and do something to distract yourself.

Simple test to see if it is the caffeine: Have a cup of coffee and see if the headaches get better in an hour or so. If that doesn't help it might be a blood sugar/nutrition issue. 1270 is a pretty extreme calorie deficit. If you increase your goal you will lose more slowly but you might feel better physically and have an…

Have you cut back on caffeine (coffee/soda)?Caffeine withdrawal headaches can be pretty awful. How many calories are you netting every day?

The 80 calorie Blue Bunny fudge bars are a nice dessert.

I have celiac disease. I was diagnosed over a decade ago so I am pretty used to it by now. At first it can seem daunting to give so many delicious things up, but it is so worth it to feel better. I would check out the forums on celiac.com. Celiac.org also has good recommendations for the newly diagnosed. I will give my two…

I do think some people use frame size as an excuse for not losing weight. And calculators may be somewhat innacurate, especially if one carries a lot of fat on his or her wrists. However, I don't think that's the case for the majority on MFP. Frame size is not being used to deny the need for weight loss. It's being offered…

I'm sorry you're struggling with this. It does sound frustrating and I agree with the other posters that small steps toward a more varied diet will be key. You have to be patient with yourself. What you've described doesn't sound like autism to me. It sounds like Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) I read an…

Has anyone tried the new Kind Breakfast Bars? The honey oat ones are so yummy. They are made with gluten-free oats so they are safe for celiacs. Also, I like that they aren't quite as sweet as most Kind bars.

Thanks. That's my thinking too. The only way to know if it will work is to give it a try.

Favorite bread- Udi's whole grain Favorite Pasta- Tinkyada Celiac.org has good resources. If your husband has celiac you will have to both educate yourselves quite a bit on what foods are safe. Gluten is hidden all over the place but if you get used to reading labels it isn't too bad. Good luck!
-
I agree that Udi's makes the best GF bread (It does need to be toasted). And Tinkyada makes great pasta. Just be careful not to overcook it. I have IBS and celiac disease so I understand how food can affect symptoms. Good luck with the FODMAP diet! It seems daunting but I know that some people have great results with it.

Gluten is a protein in wheat and other grains like barley. I have to eat a gluten free diet because I have celiac disease. There is no evidence that a gluten free diet is beneficial to people without celiac or a wheat allergy/intolerance.

I have IBS so I can guarantee that in some cases bloating is very real. I can wake up with a flat belly but by the end of the day I look slightly pregnant. OP, is the bloating new or something you have experienced for a long time? If you recently changed your diet (eating more vegetables for example) you may temporarily…
