  • My personal take is that MFP is so shockingly generous on the amount you are allowed to eat that I am surprised people aren't gaining weight. I do not even log the food personally. I understand the appeal but for me personally the danger is the list becomes permission to eat more. To not lose on a day when my body was ready
  • P.s. I think there is a lot of misunderstanding around here. A diet that has a single low calorie day or period of low calories, is often mislabeled as very low calorie. That's absurd. You have to look at the average for the week.
  • The diet creates a calorie deficit and works by only lasting 3 days. The passion against it is misplaced. I do not follow the military diet in particular but I vary my caloric intake to great success. Everyone is different. A diet of consuming nearly the same amount of calories each day would not work for me
  • I am no expert on this, but just happened to be reading an article on the subject today. From what I understand is the goal for the more experienced body builders is to maintain muscle, if on calorie deficits. However if new to body building you may be able to both be on a calorie deficit and gain muscle.
  • Had a local all comers track meet, last week, so took the family and we ran the 1 mile. They had to do 3 heats, they had so many 1 milers. I was last place, but happy with close to a PR. So, yesterday, didn't have the car so went jogging right from my front door. I used to do that all the time when I first started last…
  • My personal experience was I started jogging at around 254 lbs, and I am at 203 today. I could only jog/walk at first, distance was two mile, with as much walking as I needed, just tried to keep my heart rate up. Now I am at being able to walk/run 5 miles on long days and actually jog about 3 miles on short days. I know…
  • I am vegetarian. Although I don't have eggs, milk or fish... I still have some yogurt, so I am not vegan. I also gave up products with flour. I initially also lost a lot of weight, but stopped losing any for six months. Now I lose again, because I am on a diet
  • I have done about 70 miles this month. Today was my first ever 60 minute long run. Did 5 miles.
  • I know I'm late to the thread, but anyway, who cares  I've decided that everyone is different. Some say they get tempted by food if they don't throw some bad foods into the mix, if they felt deprived they couldn't keep their appropriate calorie intake diets. However, some, like me, are tempted by bad food, and…
  • Wow, what happened to the juicy confessions? LOL.... I don't know what to confess. I'm pretty sure i only log weight losses not gains. So if there is a gap in my log, that's what happened....bumping up, going silent. I mostly control my food nowadays, but I've had plenty of binges over the years. In the past I would eat…
  • Yesterday ran 5k .. Actually ran 2.75 walked a bit in last quarter mile. On the one hand this is my new PR for distance without walking, on the other wondering why I didn't just finish.,,. Time was 32m not a PR. Race on Sat.
  • Today's 5k practice was 32 min. Attempted negative splits but failed, will rest 2 days, have 5k race on Saturday.
  • 2/3rds of Americans are overweight or obese but apparently there is no reason for it.... I am inclined to believe there is a reason, the availability of food - it is everywhere and dietary choices Eliminating added sugar is great. Now, all the sugar snacks put in front of you daily are off limits. Secondly added…
  • Wow, my wife and I were not always on the same page. She weighs 100 lbs which is her ideal weight and has never varied by more than a couple pounds. We are not big about arguing but we were not on the same page. She has no temptation issue with food, whereas I did. I really wanted her to not buy sweets and leave them on…
  • Btw, what is the upper cut off where they won't post for eating too much? Because eating 1000 calories for a single day is such an acute issue but eating 20,000 is fine right. Lol. Let people log the truth  2/3rds of Americans are overweight or obese only two percent are underweight. I understand we are talking…
  • I just log that I ate more than I did. My real calories might be 1000 or so. It's fine MFP means well but is wrong. Humans don't have to eat the same amount constantly, we are built for feast and famine
  • I am vegetarian, I read once that vegetarians get too much protein same as non-vegetarian. That's because vegetarians still get dairy and some even eat eggs. I don't eat eggs or drink milk, but I do some dairy. I get protein from Greek yogurt, beans, almonds, quinoa, buckwheat, lentils I get too much protein probably…
  • I find the thread interesting and two, random observations spring to mind. One is about my fellow weight losers.... Once you get down a ways they can look at you in disgust for talking about dieting when they conclude you don't have a weight problem so great as theirs.... I doubt anyone here would do that, but it happens…
  • Yes, when I get depressed I stop eating. But I also lose weight for positive reasons. Over eating I do when I am neither depressed or really motivated... So basically for years I over ate. Sorry to hear about the cheating, that's awful
  • Wow. I couldn't understand anything you wrote so I am officially old. But I wanted to encourage anyway, forget about one slip up, your goals can be achieved just start right back. It was simpler in my day, never took out an ex for her birthday, ex meant it was over.
  • Diet coke gives me a massive headache. I don't know why, I wanted to like it. When I was young, Coke was a favorite. First time I had a cigarette it made me sick, shoulda listened to that. I quit smoking, but it was years later. If a person never got a headache from it, then they didn't....but if you did at first... Your…
  • Yesterday 31:47 practice 5k at my local park, new PR . Today off, but 1 mile walk.
  • I figured it out, it cuts off when I use an emoticon. Ok, so was going to say, so I wanted to be in control of my diet. So what would I use this control to do? We'll take blueberries, an article in scientific American said foods like blueberries which are rich in flavonoids might improve memory. I do control my…

  • For me, the debate isn't important. Artificial sweeteners give me a massive headache. And not just me, my siblings as well. Who knows why, never hear about it in the articles... But nobody wants a headache, lol. ..... Water seems to have no controversy around it... That's my choice
  • My favorite thing to grow is cucumbers because they are easy so the success encouraged me ... I have about 30 cucumber plants that are going to absolutely flood me with way too many.... Also do tomatoes and herbs like mint and basil. I will get just a few bell peppers and occasionally a melon or pumpkin will grow because I…
  • I take no supplements but am really controlling with my food choices, hopefully getting what I need
  • Sometimes nothing, sometimes popcorn, no butter. Popcorn is not offensive to my diet. Don't know why but I always thought it was fine
  • Tuscan rice salad
