My personal take is that MFP is so shockingly generous on the amount you are allowed to eat that I am surprised people aren't gaining weight. I do not even log the food personally. I understand the appeal but for me personally the danger is the list becomes permission to eat more. To not lose on a day when my body was ready

P.s. I think there is a lot of misunderstanding around here. A diet that has a single low calorie day or period of low calories, is often mislabeled as very low calorie. That's absurd. You have to look at the average for the week.

The diet creates a calorie deficit and works by only lasting 3 days. The passion against it is misplaced. I do not follow the military diet in particular but I vary my caloric intake to great success. Everyone is different. A diet of consuming nearly the same amount of calories each day would not work for me

I am no expert on this, but just happened to be reading an article on the subject today. From what I understand is the goal for the more experienced body builders is to maintain muscle, if on calorie deficits. However if new to body building you may be able to both be on a calorie deficit and gain muscle.

My personal experience was I started jogging at around 254 lbs, and I am at 203 today. I could only jog/walk at first, distance was two mile, with as much walking as I needed, just tried to keep my heart rate up. I am vegetarian. Although I don't have eggs, milk or fish... I still have some yogurt, so I am not vegan. I also gave up products with flour. I initially also lost a lot of weight, but stopped losing any for six months. Now I lose again, because I am on a diet :smile:

Yesterday ran 5k .. Actually ran 2.75 walked a bit in last quarter mile. On the one hand this is my new PR for distance without walking, on the other wondering why I didn't just finish.,,. Time was 32m not a PR. Race on Sat.

I just log that I ate more than I did. My real calories might be 1000 or so. It's fine MFP means well but is wrong. Humans don't have to eat the same amount constantly, we are built for feast and famine

I find the thread interesting and two, random observations spring to mind. One is about my fellow weight losers.... Once you get down a ways they can look at you in disgust for talking about dieting when they conclude you don't have a weight problem so great as theirs.... Yes, when I get depressed I stop eating. But I also lose weight for positive reasons. Over eating I do when I am neither depressed or really motivated... So basically for years I over ate. Sorry to hear about the cheating, that's awful
